Alisyn in the Greenroom

Saturday Morning

What’s up with Balloon Boy?  Was this a tragedy averted or an elaborate hoax?

And did you catch our feminism debate?  What do you make of the alleged decline in women’s happiness since the 1950’s?

Good morning, Alisyn. Thought you forgot all about us this morning! Football picks?

Comment by Sterling

Nice to see you Alisyn! I really hope that the balloon boy incident was not a hoax. I’m trying not to be cynical, and give them the benefit of the doubt. Kids, after all, really do say the darndest things! (Often at the darndest times, too!)

The world is changing, and getting harder for us all. Women who work outside the home often come home from work and have to work even harder. In these tough economic times, financial stresses can really put a dent into your happiness and self worth. We must all remember to breath! And then smile.

Good morning Ms Alisyn,

If you don’t mind I will post the games for this week:

Denver @ San Diego

Houston @ Cincy

Buffalo @ NY Jets

Who do you guys think Alisyn should pick this week? I’ll be counting the votes and telling her at noon. So get you vote in quick.

Sterling, I saw the sheriff on local news. He seems convinced it wasn’t a hoax based on how the family acted when the balloon got loose. But they’re actors, aren’t they?

How do I watch your show on TV? I’m probably the only person in the Western world not bright enough to know. I’ve got FIOs. HEllllllllP!

Good morning Ms Alisyn-since this is early on this blog-I HOPE to get your attention-on my previous comment on the old sunday blog of my comment this morning 9:58 on the WHITEPOWER BLOGGER ISSUE-I don’t know what can be done-however this should be brought to your attention.thanks.
As for the bubble boy-I do believe it is a hoax-The family has a history of wanting national attention.I do believe child services should look into the family-and I do resent the fact while this country is so broke-we are also broke on emotions and we sure spent alot watching the balloon and praying that little boy was safe.Thank GOD he is safe-but if it was a hoax-HOW band and sad.

My guess would be that any supposed decline in women’s happiness would have nothing to do with feminism but rather the breakdown of the family itself which mothers tend to value more than anyone.

Comment by Liz K

As much as I hope it “ain’t” so, I’m afraid my Broncos might not do it at SD.
then I have to go
Giants
Cincy
Jets

I’d be thrilled to be wrong about the Denver game of course!!!!

Comment by CQuinn

So, after 40 years of feminism, apparently everything is still mens’ fault. Women have gotten everything they’ve asked for, with little or no opposition from men. We have turned society upside down trying to please women. Still, they are not completely happy. I think women lose all credibility when they blame all of their problems on men, and I am sick to death of listening to women’s endless complaints.

Here are the few problems I noted in your inane panel discussion:

You discussion made the assumption (as all discussion on femenist topics do) that men are just no good. You offered no proof that men are not helping with children.

Your discussion did not take into consideration that many women are single mothers (such as Ms. Weil) and have no man in the household. How are men to be blamed for their current unhappiness?

Your discussion didn’t mention whether men were happy or not. Maybe no one cares.

I was also offended at the suggestion that men should “take orders” better.

Some advice: don’t have these little segments about men-women issues unless you are prepared to discuss the issues thoroughly and fairly (in a fair and balances way, perhaps?). The next time you do a panel like this I suggest you have a representative from a mens’ rights organization who can add a man’s perspective to the discussion. If you don’t, you are simply going to alienate the men in your audience, and the women in your audience who are not as hostile to men as the members of this panel.

Comment by Colleen

Dog, you have a valid point. As one it upsets the whole basket when the family is not in place ( @ least the same town), since the 50’s families are split up all over. Also the fact that with more mothers in the work force it’s really hard to do both. It’s a juggling act of the brain that will give mothers a headache.

Denver
Giants
Houston
Buffalo

And Minn ov Bal

Hi all

I know nada about football but hope Giants win :)

As far as women being unhappy these days I for one am happier..Years ago when my daughters were young I worked (in the school system) and ran our household. Did everything, shopping- cleaning- cooking-bills-yardwork-homework-laundry-minor plumbing-painting etc etc etc…… when I was finally FED up I told hubby he had to help in the house or else…… Well,he got the hint and it made a big difference. He always worked hard …was with the police dept and ran a paving business (which I also helped with) doing the books etc. He finally woke up and saw how hard it is to keep the house and family happy. He still works in NYC even though he retired from the NYPD – but NOW he also shops, vacuums, and helps with the grand kids.. Life is so much better ….He still can’t cook but I’m working on that LOL ;)

Obama in my opinion is a puppet. Does what the extreme left wants him to do. I don’t want Socialism ….. it scares me to death…..

hi ali,
balloon boy? a little too close to halloween-ufo sighting, maybe?
did the balloon have enough lift to actually elevate 40-50 lbs?
women’s lib-all the early feminist’s had the wrong leaders-bella,jane,gloria-
they were all able to do their thing without having to worry about finances-
all the liberated women bought into the ideas having these wonderful self actualization careers-
and they thought that would be it-what they did not count on, is that they were going to also be
wives, housekeepers, and mothers-instead of being a one dimensional “career women” all they did was
increase their workload-so now they have great careers, but are also expected to be moms, wives,
housekeepers,and car pool coordinators-

Miss Ali:

Regarding the balloon boy–tragedy avoided or elaborate hoax:

I can’t say I’ve followed this story, but find it a tragedy either way. Tragedy avoided—perhaps the parents were in hell not knowing what happened to their child—not avoided, a tragedy, heartbreak. Elaborate hoax, the child has been and will be in hell living with opportunists parents.

Regarding the feminism debate—alleged decline in women’s happiness since 1950:

My female co-workers and neighbors do not appear happy. They are divorced and have children. I imagine their struggles are great. I imagine their happiness is gone with the 50s I read about. They do, however, appear to talk and look to the future.

Ali,

Beverly made a good point – why didn’t Fox cover the story about the interracial couple in Louisiana that a judge decided not to marry? I thought it was definitely newsworthy and all the other media covered it. Maybe I missed it, but I don’t think so.

I’m surprised that you are a “Rush” fan. Don’t you find his dialogue “divisive” and “angry”? I certainly do, and so does most of mainstream America.

Obama on Healthcare….who can argue with this?

Obama contended the price of not acting will be a devastated U.S. economy because rising health care costs will mean lower salaries and higher unemployment, lower profits and larger numbers of people going without insurance.

Obama said overhauling the system will provide the change voters sought when they went to the polls last November.

“But it also now represents something more: whether or not we as a nation are capable of tackling our toughest challenges; if we can serve the national interest despite the unrelenting efforts of the special interests; if we can still do big things in America,” he said.

Kevin,

Actually, I never say I am leaving and not coming back. I in fact always make a point of saying no knot head left wing fringer is going to run me off, being one of the original bloggers on this blog.

I have no problems with you. I don’t even care that you support someone like her. That has nothing to do with me.

You have always been civil, I’d like to keep it that way. I just don’t understand your support of her and don’t really care why.

She creates comments because she is caustic and insulting. And people will only take so much of that.

We use to create as many comments long ago without being nasty in doing so. We slacked off at request. I find it a shame that her whole entrainment, her whole life, seems to revolve around being nasty and getting negative attention. That is so 5 years old, it’s sad.

Hi there Kevin. Hope your week was good, and your weekend even better.

I think we need to remember that Ms. Liz posts three or four comments in effort to rebuke one comment with difference in opinion. That’s why the comments grew so quickly after she returned.

Wasn’t that Traci’s quote, or was she quoting someone else? You are right, it is a great one.

Have a great evening.

It’s very interesting LIZZY- and all-that my comment on 10:28 evoked only one weak comment from liz-to deflect her own racist self and this whitepower-on to someone else.COULD NOT ADDRESS the rest of the comment which shows sincerity and honesty on how are President is and should be viewed and that’s how most people see it-we deal in issues- not BS like lizzie and company.

Comment by Sterling

It is shocking to me, Bajette, that they are so convinced of their superiority, that they can not wrap their minds around the fact that Americans disagree with his flawed policies, and so they have to resort to calling all dissenters racist. But of course I shouldn’t be shocked; they’ve resorted to every underhanded dirty trick that they can pull out of their hats to defend their failing policies. Certainly it is time for a black president, or a female president. Race and gender should not factor into it. The president should fail or succeed based on his or her policies only.

As I’ve said before, in my experience, every president, after being elected and taking office, has worked diligently to mend the country, no matter how partisan and divisive the campaign process was. This one however, seems intent on leading less than half the country. The citizens who support him. Nevermind that the rest of us are supporting him, and his minions, financially.

Comment by Mark Still

Your segement on feminism was so far off the mark on men. I for one have changed diapers from day on on FOUR daughters, cooked, cleaned and supported a wife completing not only her bachelors but her MASTERS. Needless to say I took extreme UMBRIDGE with your opinions as well as the feminist who couldnt hold her own in that convesation, regardless of the fact she was a co-owner/blogger, of “bust”. I think your guests need a bit more “stick time” or experience before they put out their opions.

I watched the re-run of the Beck show where he had all sorts of physicians answering questions. The sheriff just announced they are going to file charges regarding the balloon boy incident. I think initially the balloon accidentially got away and the father called the FAA to try and get his balloon back but when the FAA wouldn’t help him and told him to call 911, I think he made it up that his son was in the balloon to get the 911 responders to track down his balloon. I think he used to have inheritence money, he doesn’t work, he’s maybe broke now, and he wanted the authorities to get his balloon back for him for free so he made up the story. I think he told the boy to hide and the parents figured they would be in People Magazine and on many shows, get paid for it. I don’t think it started out as a hoax, but the parents turned it into one.

Carolynro – Reid said that “NOT” passing reform will cost more than $2.4 trillion – and Olympia Snow confirmed that on CNN today. By passing reform legislation we will save trillions and cover more people. DO THE MATH! The insurance industry has always put out false reports whenever we get close to passing reform. It’s time to do it now! I’m much more fiscallly conservative that the conservatives, so I will never vote conservative again!

A Minnesota woman who was hospitalized with damage to multiple organs after she was overcome in an Arizona sweat lodge ceremony died Saturday, sheriff’s officials said.

The death of 49-year-old Liz Neuman brings the total number of deaths from the Oct. 8 incident at a resort near Sedona to three, Yavapai County sheriff’s spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn said.

Authorities are treating the deaths as homicides, but no charges have been filed.

D’Evelyn did not provide a city of residence for Neuman, but public records showed an address in Prior Lake, about 25 miles southwest of Minneapolis.

HARRY REID: “He talked about CBO saying that there would be $54 billion saved each year if we put caps on medical malpractice and put some restrictions — tort reform — $54 billion. Sounds like a lot of money, doesnt it, Mr. President? The answer is yes. But remember, were talking about $2 trillion, $54 billion compared to $2 trillion. You can do the math. We can all do the math. Its a very small percent.”

Good morning everyone! If I was the sherriff, I would take the little balloon boy into a room separately from his parents, feed him a snack and visit with him a little, then bring up the subject of the incident and take him out in the garage and say, ” now tell me buddy, how did you get up in here to hide? Can you show me how you got up there? You sure did do a good job of hiding! How did you do it?”

Chances are, the kid would then admit that Daddy put him up there. End of story.

The rise in prices anticipated from this health care debacle bill has already started- we got a notice yesterday our medicare advantage will increase by $1400 for us this next year plus higher copays. The parents who set off a worldwide drama by reporting their 6-year-old son was inside a flying saucer-like helium balloon hurtling over Colorado concocted the stunt to market themselves for a television show, a sheriff said Sunday.

Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said at an extraordinarily candid news conference that the boy, Falcon Heene, may not have even been hiding in the rafters of the family’s garage during the intense five-hour search for him Thursday afternoon.

The sheriff said no charges had been filed yet, and the parents weren’t under arrest. He said he expected to recommend charges of conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, making a false report to authorities and attempting to influence a public servant.

Hi Alisyn,
Thanks for featuring Sally on the show! Her books are just gems.

I am a homemaker, a SAHM to two boys. Were I to become single, I would do everything in my power to continue to be at home with my children as much as I could (there are many avenues which make this possible, mainly family and friends and your church family, which I understand not everyone has). Why? Simply put, no one else has the responsibility (and joy!) to raise my children. My husband and I do.

Your discussion was simply too short to include enough aspects of the debate. I found the insinuations about men quite a turn-off. Why does it seem like these discussions tend towards making men out to be weak, insipid, lazy, goof-balls?! My man sure isn’t! What a gravely misguided picture of masculinity!

I would really enjoy seeing a longer, more thoroughly represented discussion on the topic of motherhood and feminism. It’s not given enough attention in our media, but it’s so “close to home” (no pun intended).

There are so many of us in America who still highly value God’s beautiful design of marriage and parenting that includes a mother who spends the majority of her time at home, raising her children. In this way, she is making the greatest impact a single person can – investing in little lives that will one day shape our world. There’s just no replacement for that.

Almost six years after a wildfire destroyed nearly 1,000 homes in Southern California, prosecutors say they have enough evidence to charge a prison inmate with arson and murder in connection with the 2003 blaze.

San Bernardino County prosecutors on Tuesdasy indicted Rickie Lee Fowler, a 28-year-old prison inmate, on arson and murder charges in connection to the wildfire linked to five heart attack deaths.

Fowler is serving time in state prison for burglary. He was first interviewed in connection with fire in February 2004, based on a telephone tip, but there was not enough evidence to charge him, San Bernardino County Deputy District Attorney Vic Stull said.

Holiday surcharges. Bag fees. Fees for just about everything. Long airport security lines. Flying might not be your cheapest, quickest or most comfortable option to travel to grandma’s house this Thanksgiving.

Consider taking the bus or Amtrak, driving or even renting a recreational vehicle for a family adventure. At an average $2.57 a gallon this week, gasoline is almost 12 percent cheaper than it was a year ago.

Still, the distance you have to travel may make the airplane route the only practical course.
