Alisyn in the Greenroom

Sunday Morning

What do you think of the President’s announcement last night that he will repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy?  Is the change necessary in this time of needing more troops?  Or will it somehow change the face of the military?

What kind of car do you drive?  It says a lot about your personality.  We’ll tell you what.

We have an update for you on the story of Liam McCarty, the 8-year-old boy trapped by the Dept. of  Social Services in Italy.  An important decision on the case will be made by a judge in Rome this week.  To learn more about the case go to www.saveliam.org

Who loves Los Lonely Boys?  We do.

Good morning Ms Alisyn,

Like it or not this will hurt recruitment in the military. Tolerance is a good thing, but it is lacking in some areas. Men in the Military are not tolerant in this regard.

I drive a Ford Ranger.

Good luck with your picks this week

Good morning, Alisyn, Chas and all.

The repeal of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is just another Obama payoff to his campaign supporters and contributors, and it will hurt recruitment. Will the draft return next?

I drive a used car — does that mean I’m cheap? Or is the PC term ‘thrifty’?

Morning Aliisyn~chas,BruceWV & Lanna. Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. ? What happens when you have a commander – or whoever get mixed up w/one of the fighting M/W. Who’s got your back? One can only hope he goes as slow to act on this as he has on getting more troops over there. Or most of all his Great plans! I say leave as is! Once again we are bowing down to the minority not the majority.
I drive a red Grand Prix! I love my car!

Also Michigan lost

Comment by John in NM

Morning Alisyn & Gang.

Enjoy the show and red is definately your color…

The President’s decision to abolish Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is just another demoralizing and undermining of our wonderful military establishment. It comes from an individual that has no clue or understanding of the military mindset. I forget, what is his military record? He didn’t even dodge the draft like Mr Clinton. He just wants to dismantle it so he can push us to a one world government & military and after the recent Nobel Peace Prize… he can be elected King of the World. OMG this guy is out of control and he’s driving the bus we are all on… I think I want to transfer to the “Short Bus.”

I drive a Mustang GT… Used to drive a Buick Park Avenue.

Good Luck with your picks today…

Chas, gave me nightmares! ;)

Personally I’m sick of seeing M/W of the same sex having those scenes on T.V.! Gets a little hard to explain to the kids just what the heck is going on. I’d rather hear cussing, that’s bad also. I’d really like to have morals brought back into this country! With all this we can’t show a cross, Christmas tree’s. Enough! How far does America have to bow down to the others . What people do behind closed doors I personally don’t want to know, I sure in the sam hell don’t want it in my face!

Comment by Lou T

What will same sex mariage cost taax payers? What about leting any two people file joint tax returns? Why should two gays be allowed to file a joint tax return? Why not two non-gay same sex individuals?

Comment by Ed Reining

There have been gays in the military long before “dont ask dont tell.” I don’t understand the problem, unless it’s for homosexuals to flaunt there homosexuality openly in the military. Will it be used to provide military benefits for there partners, have them (partners) treated in military hospitals? I dont know but before action the government needs to see what the implications are, and with this Congress it scares me.

Los Lonely Boys are great! Been listening to them a long long time.

There are plenty of people currently serving in our Military who are gay—-Why does knowing what someone does behind closed doors change anything about serving your country??? How are the two related in ANY way???? Why does this have to be an issue—-Why do we need to know this about a person in any job in any situation. Does this somehow make them speciall??? It’s crazy—-It only empowers them as a group to get special treatment. Then they will become victims, when all the hate crimes begin, because unfortunately there are those among us who can’t leave well enough alone and will do something moronic.

Oblitheringidiot is just that. This will only serve to bring out a boat load of problems within the military community. Not to mention how polarizing this can be to our country. I’m beginnning to wonder if this President realizes this.

Comment by John

Good morning Alisyn, I think Obummer’s trying to tick off the conseratives for their lack of support for his healthcare agenda. Don’t kid yourselves he does not like opposition. Look what he does to Fox. Ford Escape is what I drive and love the vehicle.

Comment by A Wall

Basically I said— there a currently gay men/women serving our country. someone please tell me how knowing what they do behind closed doors is going to change their ability to serve their country. Why do we need to know this about anyone—-what’s going to change once we know—-well it’s going to create a boat load of problems, then this Group will soon become victims—then another set of problems stems from that.

This president is certainly doing his darndest to create polarization in this country.

Comment by BruceWV

Right Ed the point is no one knows we operate under the presumption that everyone is normal. The thought of their lifestyle makes me gag so if I know I’ll keep my distance. Thats my choice

Comment by John

Is gays in the military a way to change his views on his support of gay marriage?

Comment by A Wall

I drive a Dodge Intrepid
Hubby drives a Ford F150

Both are paid for—and when we replace, it’s never a high end fancy thing—-we can’t see spending tons of money on something that loses it’s value the second you drive it off the lot. As long as we get where we’re going.

Comment by Mary

I don’t know about you all, but everyday there is a major story with the anointed one. I am so tired of him being on TV, and on the news in general. This thing with the gays in the military is just another attempt to throw everyone in to talking about it over the major issue of health care reform which they are voting on this coming Tuesday.

Remember “watch” the right hand, because you just don’t know what the left hand is doing. It is a ploy to divert your attention away from the issue.

Comment by Mary

All of us have to keep up the pressure about the chairman mo/obama not passing this health care reform and now the cap and tax that has reared his ugly head. Just read in the paper that John McCain will probably side with the demwits and sign the cap and trade bill that they are going to sneak through the Senate.

Oh, and I drive a F-150, a 2001, and a 1994 Cadillac Seville that gets 25 mpg. I don’t drive them at the same time though.

At one point in time, it was said African-Americans should not serve in the military and that integration would be detrimental. History has proven otherwise. There have been cases of gays serving in the military admirably. One presumes in time, history will prove integration of gays the same.

Although some would no more wish to serve next to someone gay or black, one presumes one would not wish to serve next to a Tim McVay.

Do we need more troops? After eight years, one would hope we’d more wisely fight terrorism with technology.

Regarding the piece about teen drinking, the mother hardly had a chance to talk and the young lawyer obviously has not been a mother to teens. Most people feel like she does until they actually have to deal with teenagers. Liberals are all about “it takes a village”, except in cases like this when they just blame the parents. There are many, many parents who are very vigilent, as I’m sure this mom was, but tragedy can still happen, as in this case. For her to talk about “big brother” was ridiculous. Teenagers’ brains are not developed yet, they don’t have good judgement, they don’t understand consequences, and they need everyone to be on top of what they are doing. I support this mom and what she is trying to do.

marine—

how true that all those on the battle field are brothers and you look out for each other—

My concern would be that the Enemy—Muslim Extremists—would get hold of this information about these men/women and that would certainly be detrimental to them. If this happens these guys/gals would be sitting ducks and if captured by the terrorists, it would surely cause mayhem and death to them. There is No tolerance of homosexuality in the Muslim world.

No one is punishing them—-those who are gay and wish to serve their country are already doing so.

Comment by carolynro

I see that identifying people by their race or gender or sexual preference just leads to more discordance between people because it seems that there is an inherent desire to receive special treatment or rules or laws that are attached to features of people rather than fostering what is inside of people. I think any group that stands up and says “Look at me” “I am different” creates the exact opposite outcome of acceptance than they were after. What ever happened to the “content of character” being the thing we all strive for? I have seen how destructive labels can be for a person. Labels create a pre-conceived or self full-filling prophecy that interferes with personal growth. I choose to learn what is inside.

Pir ro is damaged goods and should not be heeded about anything, especially DNA evidence and its possibility for exonertaion. Recall her great work as a prosecutor: “Je ffrey Desk ovic was convicted in the murder of 15-year-old fellow student Ang ela Cor rea. He proclaimed his innocence on several occasions, but was denied a reopening of the case by then-DA Pir ro. In 2006, the current DA authorized a DNA test which led to Deskovic’s exoneration. Had Pirro agreed to a relatively simple test, Desk ovic would have been freed years before his actual exoneration. Instead, she maintained that the test wasn’t necessary, and Desk ovic spent 16 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.” Wikipedia entry that all know to be the facts.

Pir ro is of the school that if the cops arrest someone, they are guilty, and any effort otherwise is simply lawyer tricks. “Fair and Balanced”? Ha!

I read about the study on the internet and found that it was a study done by UC Davis. For me that says it is flawed from the start. First flaw, it is California only drivers that were studied. Second flaw, it doesn’t take into consideration that California is NOT what the rest of the world follows. Third flaw, UC Davis is so far left that they have no idea what the real world is like.

I am well educated, have worked from Florida to California, from Idaho to Panama, from the Americas to the Middle East and have 40+ years experience in Quality Management. In my experiences in California, I have always found that California was always 5 to 10 years behind the rest of the world in knowledge of the “real world”.

I would like to know what owning a Hyundai Genesis says about me and what owning a Hyundai Veracruz says about my wife.

I drive a 2001 PT Cruiser, one of the first ones out, and I LOVE my car! I have had a ball with it and been to lots of cruiser car shows with it. I even drove it from north of Houston to Kansas City and raced it with my cruiser friends once, have driven it around the racetrack at Texas Motor Speedway and driven it to car shows in St. Louis and birmingham, Alabama, Oklahoma and Kansas. It is silver, has a triple pinstripe of red, charcoal and black and Team Dynamic sport wheels, and I plan to drive it forever. I was an adult for years until I got my car and then regressed into the wild youth I never had! LOL Still cruisin’ at age 66 in my cool car.

Comment by retrotx

I actually don’t give a flip what my car says about me- I paid for it, I like it, it’s PAID FOR and that is all that matters. I don’t drive it to impress anyone else;I drive it because I could afford it, it gets good gas mileage, holds lots of stuff and it is CUTE. I guess it says I am an independent cussed poor old Texas woman and it would be right. Like football teams, I pick cars that are cute and wear a pretty color!

Nice & roomy, rides down the road nice and comfy like, gets abt 22mpg, in the city, has all the amenities, and I, like retro, LOVE my car. Her name is Dimples, and we make quite a pair, for sure. Both a little old, a little slow, but able to still maneuver the road w/o making every single person so angry it ruins their day, hum? I also have Pearl, the Caddy…and I love her too, but one of the kiddo’s is driving her right now. She is actually my fav, but, so it goes. lol :) Yep…love my old cars, for sure………….. :) Needless to say, the Caddy is also comfy w/all the amenities. Yep ~~sigh~~ :)

Thank you so much for giving a voice to the youngest members of our society – Little Liam McCarty.
Liam and his Father should not have to repeat the same procedures in Italy that he already went through in America. What trauma for that poor little boy to have to endure, and additional financial burden for the Father. The Italian System must honor The Hague Convention and return Liam to his rightful guardian, Michael. His Mother, who was deemed a “danger to him” and removed by “Emergency court order” by The Italian Social welfare system, is now allowed to have contact with him? And she continues to alienate him from his Father…. How can that be? Who is being paid off at the expense of a child’s mental well-being? With the Italian PM being indited for Corruption (and other assorted illegal activities) I can see where the whole political/legal system could be broken and damaged. I do hope the Honest citizens of Italy will stand up to the corruption occurring in their country and raise a voice for this Child as well as Italy. And I encourage the US State Department – Hilary Clinton – to investigate Liam’s case and do the same.

Comment by retrotx

Where is this man’s congressman to help him get this child back? It seems like his local congressman would go to bat for him with the state department to get back this child. I am glad you are giving this publicity to help, but why isn’t our government doing anything to help? God knows they spend money foolishly on everything else. Maybe if the father was “gay” he would get some support! Very sad case.

Crews dredging a polluted stretch of the upper Hudson River this year battled high water, old logging debris and unexpected levels of PCB contamination that slowed progress.

But as the first phase of one of the most costliest and complex federal Superfund projects wraps up this month, regulators say results are generally positive and show dredging can work. They are already preparing for a far more expansive second phase, which would clean up 40 miles of river and likely push total project costs over $700 million.

Dredging began in the rural area in May after decades of argument over how to deal with tons of PCBs that flowed down the river in 1973 after a dam was removed. Upriver General Electric plants in Fort Edward and neighboring Hudson Falls discharged wastewater containing PCBs for decades before the popular lubricant and coolant was banned in 1977. PCBs, or polychlorinated vinyls, are considered probable carcinogens

I am over the top incredulous, but not at all surprised. Not at all! lol We continue to pray hard for this child and his father, that he is returned safe to his fam here in the USA. lol grrrrrrrr

State Police say they are piecing together information to understand just how a bus carrying a Utah high school band veered off a southeastern Idaho interstate, killing a 33-year-old band teacher and injuring dozens of student musicians who hours earlier had swept a competition.

Police identified the person killed in the Saturday wreck as Heather Christensen of Spanish Fork, Utah, a woodwind instructor for the American Fork High School band. All but one of 44 students who received medical care at Portneuf Regional Medical Center in Pocatello following the accident had been released by Sunday.

Hospital officials say the remaining patient, a girl, is due to be released on Monday.

I am okay repealing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy . Soldiers deserve to know if the guy standing next to them at the urinal is a pervert. In fact, if a gay person winds up in the military and he does NOT make his sexual orientation known to everyone around him, he should be prosecuted. Furthermore, once they make their depravity known, no person of his own sex should be required to share a bathroom or barracks with that person. This, of course, would mean building separate accomodations for the gays. One door could read “Men”; another could read, “Women”; and another could read, “Homosexuals”. This would, cost more taxpayer money; but the liberals want to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. They should explain to the American people why we will have to spend still more of OUR money as a result of one of their dimwitted ideas.
In fact, Amercan society itself is already very open. Many gay persons OUTSIDE the military are coming out of the closet . Helen Degenerate even has a talk show. I believe businesses who have public restrooms should be forced to provide separate accomodations for gays. This would cost small businesses a fortune, but what’s the big deal? The Feds are already out to destroy small business, so why would this be any different? Or, patrons of small business can sue businesses to have accomodations built. That way our public insurance that we’ll have to pay for can foot the bill. Why is THAT bad?

Santa Claus is real. So is the tooth fairy. Mothers should teach their children the virtues of cocaine use and alcohol dependence. Sex with squirrels is normal and perfectly acceptable. We should try to understand Bin Laden; because he is a citizen of the world. Maybe we can get him involved in group therapy or sensitivity training. That’s all he needs. Poor Osama–so misunderstood. Obama is really a moderate. He’s misunderstood too. All he wants is for Americans to be rewarded by their initiative and effort. He’s going to take care of all of us. All we need to do is lie back and let him shine on us. Do you think we should change the date of Christmas to the president’s birthday? You don’t think that bunch of religious fanatics will object do you? Let’s make sure we save those rare, endangered minnows, however. Just ignore those pesky farmers.

Comment by Jimmy

We’ve Figured Him Out
Ben Stein, Spectator.org

Why is President Barack Obama in such a hurry to get his socialized medicine bill passed?
Because he and his cunning circle realize some basic truths:

The American people in their unimaginable kindness and trust voted for a pig in a poke in 2008. They wanted so much to believe Barack Obama was somehow better and different from other ultra-leftists that they simply took him on faith.

They ignored his anti-white writings in his books. They ignored his quiet acceptance of hysterical anti-American diatribes by his minister, Jeremiah Wright.

They ignored his refusal to explain years at a time of his life as a student. They ignored his ultra-left record as a “community organizer,” Illinois state legislator, and Senator.

The American people ignored his total zero of an academic record as a student and teacher, his complete lack of scholarship when he was being touted as a scholar.

Now, the American people are starting to wake up to the truth. Barack Obama is a super likeable super leftist, not a fan of this country, way, way too cozy with the terrorist leaders in the Middle East, way beyond naďveté, all the way into active destruction of our interests and our allies and our future.

The American people have already awakened to the truth that the stimulus bill — a great idea in theory — was really an immense bribe to Democrat interest groups, and in no way an effort to help all Americans.

Now, Americans are waking up to the truth that ObamaCare basically means that every time you are sick or injured, you will have a clerk from the Department of Motor Vehicles telling your doctor what he can and cannot do.

The American people already know that Mr. Obama’s plan to lower health costs while expanding coverage and bureaucracy is a myth, a promise of something that never was and never will be — a bureaucracy lowering costs in a free society. Either the costs go up or the free society goes away.

These are perilous times. Mrs. Hillary Clinton, our Secretary of State, has given Iran the go-ahead to have nuclear weapons, an unqualified betrayal of the nation. Now, we face a devastating loss of freedom at home in health care. It will be joined by controls on our lives to “protect us” from global warming, itself largely a fraud if believed to be caused by man.

Mr. Obama knows Americans are getting wise and will stop him if he delays at all in taking away our freedoms.

There is his urgency and our opportunity. Once freedom is lost, America is lost. Wake up, beloved America.

An unusually strong October storm is bearing down on California, prompting residents in areas burned by recent wildfires to prepare for heavy rain that could send mud and debris flowing into canyon and foothill neighborhoods.

Residents of La Canada Flintridge, near the barren Southern California hillsides that the massive Station Fire scorched this summer, shoveled sand into bags Monday. The heaviest rain was scheduled to arrive Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The Pacific storm will drop 3 to 6 inches in Santa Barbara County, where an 8,700-acre fire burned in May, before it moves on to the San Gabriel Mountains, where the U.S. Geological Survey recently warned of massive debris flows near the areas burned in September, forecasters said.

Talking Points: AHIP Report on Senate Finance Committee Bill

· This is a self-serving analysis from the insurance industry, one of the major opponents of health insurance reform. Even the company hired to produce the report has issued a statement saying they produced a skewed report that analyzes only part of the bill because that is what the insurance industry paid them to do.

· It comes on the eve of a vote that will reduce the industry’s profits. It is hard to take it seriously. The analysis completely ignores critical policies such as:

Ø Grandfather policy that requires no change in the health insurance plan that you already get at work.

Ø Tax credits for those who need help purchasing health insurance

Ø Special policies for young adults, who AHIP claims will be hit hard, including tax credits and the choice of a special “young invincibles” plan that has a low premium.

Ø A health insurance exchange that will increase choice and competition and put downward pressure on costs.

Ø Reinsurance and other policies proven to ensure that no single group bears unexpectedly high costs.

Ø Flawed analysis – especially on the tax on insurance companies that offer high-end policies. Most economists conclude that will begin to lower costs, not increase them.

Ø Few health insurance plans – and over time fewer – will have premiums high enough to be affected by the assessment.

Ø The individual responsibility requirement in the Finance bill is sufficient to cover 94 percent of Americans and create an insurance exchange with over 20 million people, according to CBO.

Intel Corp. has been asserting for months that the personal computer business is rebounding from its deepest slump in nearly a decade. Its stock jumped late Tuesday on signs things are picking up faster than expected, despite a few lingering trouble spots.

Intel reported after the market closed that its profit and sales both dipped 8 percent in the July-September period as spending by corporations remained weak, a trend that has dragged on throughout the recession and probably won’t ease until next year.

The price for Intel’s chips also fell. One reason is that “netbooks,” little laptops that cost a few hundred dollars and have limited functions beyond surfing the Internet, have caught on but aren’t big moneymakers. Another is that PC makers have slashed their prices on full-sized computers, and aren’t willing to pay as much for the chips that go into them.

Limbaugh already down a vote in bid to buy Rams

BOSTON – Rush Limbaugh’s bid to buy the St. Louis Rams ran into opposition within the NFL on Tuesday, when Colts owner Jim Irsay vowed to vote against him and commissioner Roger Goodell said the conservative commentator’s “divisive” comments would not be tolerated from any NFL insider.

“I, myself, couldn’t even consider voting for him,” Irsay said at an owners meetings. “When there are comments that have been made that are inappropriate, incendiary and insensitive … our words do damage, and it’s something that we don’t need.”

Limbaugh has long been a hero of conservatives and villain to the left, thriving on his place in the political spectrum while establishing himself as one of the most successful broadcasters in history. But the NFL tries to avoid controversy, as Limbaugh learned in 2003 when he was forced to resign from ESPN’s Sunday night football broadcast after saying of Philadelphia’s Donovan McNabb: “I think what we’ve had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well.”

Goodell repeatedly distanced the league from Limbaugh’s statements on Tuesday, calling them “polarizing comments that we don’t think reflect accurately on the NFL or our players.”

Comment by Liz

Patriots owner Robert Kraft referred questions about Limbaugh to the commissioner. Texans owner Bob McNair said anyone who meets the “normal criteria” is a candidate to own a team.

“But our vetting process is very thorough,” he said.

NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith, who is black, urged players to speak out against Limbaugh’s bid, and several have already said they would not play for his team.

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank echoed Goodell’s comments and noted that the league and the union had a similar stance. Blank also said he wouldn’t expect Limbaugh, if the deal went through, to tone down his lucrative radio show to avoid running afoul of the league.

“I find that highly unlikely,” he said.

Prospective owners must be approved by 24 of the league’s 32 teams. Irsay is the first owner who has stated unequivocally he would reject Limbaugh because he made a habit of “demonizing individuals.”

“I met Rush only once. He seemed like a nice guy to me and all those kind of things,” Irsay said. “It’s bigger than the NFL. As a nation, and as a world, we’ve got to watch our words and our thoughts. They can do damage.”

That’s why it’s so important to elect well-educated reps. Only morons are left in the Republican party, but they will be gone next year, so don’t worry….and there are more doctors who are FOR the public option…and still more who are for single-payer.

Comment by Liberal

The economy is definitely on the mend. The unemployment rate is not nearly 10 per cent. That rumor is just something cooked up by Glen Beck. Our spending will never lead to out of control inflation. All this talk about what a lousy president poor Jimmy Carter was is just a right wing smear campaign. We didn’t really have runaway inflation and runaway unemployment and runaway interest rates. Carter’s big spending really deserves CREDIT for the recovery that happened after Ronald Reagon took office. Reagon was to blame for everything bad that happened during the Carter years. Republican ineptitude often causes harm retroactively. I’m sure all you liberals know that already.

Comment by Roy

Well how about that?! ANYWAY…

Liz, the old “We inherited this mess.. . ” line can only work for a while. I think it’s already run out of steam. Bush didn’t spend nearly a trillion dollars on PORK that isn’t taking us anywhere except into debt, eventual catastrophic inflation, and a ruinous overall economy. I remind you again that the “stimulous” bill was only the beginning. We’ve had the omnibus bill, the bailouts, and now the health care bill which looks like it will cost us another trillion dollars. It isn’t Hannity and Beck who concocted the laws of economics. They didn’t invent supply and demand. Economists tell us that when anything is in great supply, the value of it goes DOWN. Our money supply has NEVER been higher. We’ve HAD to increase it to pay for Obama’s pork and his socialistic ideas. Now the value of our money is likely to reduce farther than it EVER has in the history of our country. On top of everything else, the stimulus package has NOT reduced unemployment; and when it DOES go down, it will likely be because the economy is doing what it usually does anyway, with or without government help. Please come at me with real facts that COUNTER what I’ve written here. I have been talking rudimentary economics. I’ll even give you some basic history. The biggest disasters in the history of economics have been precipitated by hyper spending. There’s a book you should read. It’s called,”Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me it’s Raining.”

No Blogger – I’m pretty sure Beck is trying to tell you how to argue with him! Look at his credentials – he doesn’t have any! He’s not qualified for most jobs, let alone the one he has. I guess you can call him “lucky” if that’s what you want to call it. I call it a curse.

He can h-a-t-e all he wants, and so can Limbaugh. I feel nothing but pity for them – and their followers – whom Beck describes as “zombies”! (He told that to O’Reilly the other night – hilarious)

Comment by Liz

Blogger – what are your credentials? What makes you qualified to assess the healthcare plan that’s not even closed to finished? Talking points maybe?

Comment by Liz

Blogger/Liberal/Cade Simone/Caver – how many aliases do you have? Maybe they are all your relatives?

Comment by Roy

Yes, I think you are right, Liz–about the anti gay remarks anyway. I must agree that h-a-t-i-n-g. anyone, regardless of what they do is wrong. And, again, you are right that we should h-a-t-e the sin but not the sinner. Homosexuality is like any other sin. However, being repulsed by the sin does not make me a homophobe. The “phobe” part of the word suggests FEAR. I do not fear gay people. I simply am repulsed by their behavior. I do not believe it is h-a-t-e-ful (are you serious about this?) to call them perverts. Perversion is simply straying from normative behavior. I believe that being gay qualifies one for that label; since fewer than 1 percent of the American population calls themselves gay. Homosexuals have tried for quite a long time to convince us all that their behavior is “normal”. They even cited “research” to suggest that it is in the genes. Only later did we discover that the the “researcher” was a homosexual himself and that his research was flawed in its methodology. Another crowd points to famous people like Peter the Great and Michelangelo and says they were gay. I spoke to a professor of Russian history who laughed at their contention. Peter the Great was married–TO A WOMAN! It seems they seize on anything at all to give legitimacy to their behavior. I am rabidly against “gay rights” because I believe it further erodes traditional family structure which is in enough trouble already.

Incidentally, the thoughts of someone touting white power to this extent is SICKENING. Blogger says this person is you, Liz. I honestly hope he is right. It is sad to consider that a creep like this exists in this world. Pieces of trash like this give conservatism a bad name; just as Van Jones and Bill Ayers don’t do anything for liberal reputations. Extremism on either side of the isle needs to be discouraged.

It’s hilarious to see the liberals lose their minds, just because an outspoken conservative with the means to do so, wants to buy an NFL team. Honestly, with the health care debate heating up all over again, don’t they have better things to squabble about?

Comment by Kevin

The stock market being up—a good thing for us who have 401Ks. Perhaps we won’t fear opening up those statements. For those unemployed, not a good thing—it was on their backs, their job losses—but I’m sure the jobless already know that

Comment by carolynro

I don’t understand what you mean – on their backs. Can you clarify for me? Thanks

Comment by Kevin

Carolynro,

I apologize. The companies on the Exchanges did better because they cut expenses–they cut employees.

Comment by carolynro

Yes, didn’t we all! When there is no work. There are no jobs. I don” consider that being on the backs of the employees. I see loss of jobs being a factor of economic downturn.

What do you think about government limits on what can be paid?

Comment by carolynro

Overall, 49% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance. Fifty percent (50%) disapprove. Eighty-five percent (85%) of Democrats approve. Seventy-eight percent (78%) of Republicans disapprove

as do 61% of voters not affiliated with either major party (see other recent demographic highlights).

Comment by carolynro

That post was from Rasmussen Oct 14. 61% of people not affiliated with a political disapprove of Obama.

Comment by Kevin

Carolynro,

Again, I apologize. I believe I read you are an Employer. It is an economic downturn. What else can one do but lay off Employees.

My experience has been major corporations ship their jobs overseas for cheaper labor. When we ship technology jobs overseas, …we’re in trouble. With any industry, I’m sure that is true.

Government limits on what can be paid? A loaded question you ask. Do we spend to put people back to work? Would that not boost the economy?

Kevin,

Comment by carolynro

No, Kevin…the small number of jobs being “created” with stimulus money are temporary and expensive. True job creation is born of economic activity. Jobs come from building or manufacturing things. Not from “make work” jobs like the stim plan is doing. Remember Clinton’s 100,000 Cops program? As soon at the grant money ran out, the state municipalities had to find money to keep those cops and most of them let the cops go. No permanence in jobs created just to say there are jobs. There has to be an underlying reason- demand – for workers to be hired for long term jobs.

You might also consider the number of jobs from other countries that are here. My brother in law had not worked in CA for two years until he was hired by a French company. It does go both ways.

Comment by carolynro

I think it might be also accurate to say that the US tax policy and US union wages have also driven jobs over seas.

Comment by carolynro

Have you heard the recent stories about teachers and postal workers who are either under disciplinary suspension and postal workers for whom there is no work who are warehoused and are being paid full wages and benefits to do nothing all day? Yep…your tax dollars at work!

Comment by Kevin

Carolynro,

Respectfully, did we not have eight prior years of corporate tax cuts and still jobs were shipped overseas?

Comment by John

Kevin, Now we have 10% unemployment and spending in to obliavion. Out of control spending will not fix anything.

Comment by carolynro

Jobs have been going over seas for years. Clinton signed NAFTA when he was president. Bush tax cuts put more money into the treasury than Clinton’ tax increases did. The problem was the spending was higher. Corporations are beholden to the stockholders and are expected to show a profit. It is up to corporations to accomplish that. We live in a global economy and I wish I could remember the site that discussed how the US benefits from jobs coming over from other countries as much as other countries benefit from American companies using over seas employees. I will post below something from the HufPost.

Comment by carolynro

“Companies from almost all other industrialized nations are not required to pay taxes on international revenues to their home nations. Instead, they operate under territorial tax systems in which they pay corporate income taxes only in the country where revenues are earned.

In stark contrast, the U.S. employs a worldwide tax system — earnings are taxed where revenues are earned, and then taxed again in the U.S. To compensate for this double taxation, which places American companies at a disadvantage with foreign rivals, the U.S. has created a system of accounting rules and deferrals meant to help maintain a level playing field. It is this system that is under attack. The current proposed changes to the tax code for American global companies would risk much of our economic recovery to date, putting in jeopardy our jobs, the ability of American businesses to compete, and the health of our economy — something that benefits all of us.”

Comment by carolynro

Then you have to examine the “corporate tax cuts”. Corporations pass on the cost of taxation to the customer so when corps are taxed it costs the people who buy products as the corps pass on the tax hikes to people.

Kev,

This recovery looks like a repeat of th 2001-2002 recovery – interest rates at or near zero, companies trimming fat (and employees), shoring up their bottom line – and then they started to hire. It’s a pattern that will repeat and next year we will start to see it come to fruition. We are out of the recession but many won’t feel it till sometime next year. As for the stimulus not creating jobs, that is completely false. There are many new industries popping up and they are hiring like crazy – one right here in Michigan is building a plant to manufacture those windmills (or whatever they are called). I know about another solar company right here that is beginning to hire auto workers for auto-related “green” jobs that will be permanent.

Carolynro is not an expert in business – she doesn’t follow what’s happening on Wall St. and most likely gets her “talking points” from Fox. That’s why I’ve been here trying to get these people to look “all around” for info. LOL

Have a great night. I won’t bother responding to the “morons” here (sorry) but that’s what they are! :-)

The stimulus is creating many new “permanent” jobs and only $100 billion of it has been spent so far (by Obama). I think we should use more stimulus (like China did) and our economy would start growing at a much faster pace. I know about a few companies who are hiring like crazy for “green” automotive jobs right here in Michigan. There will also be many new alternative energy jobs coming here. We need to catch up with the rest of the world in that area.

Hello Friends,

I love the way you guys displayed the two white teens (on 14 Oct) who burned that kid in Florida for 5 seconds and then displayed the black teen for 10-15 seconds by himself…mmmm…YES…I love it! Let America see what our savages look like–crazy monkeys on crack. That black teen probably forced those white kids to do it. WHITE POWER…down with monkeys!

To quote another one of our FOX NEWS heros…the great Rush Limbaugh:

“You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray (Dr. King’s assassin). We miss you, James. Godspeed.”

“Let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: Slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back. I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.”

Rush understands America, FOX NEWS understands the need for us to spin the clock back 200 years and put these monkeys in their place.

Next week, Microsoft is releasing Windows 7, a slick, much improved operating system that should go a long way toward erasing the bad impression left by its previous effort, Vista.

If you’ve been holding off on buying a new computer, Windows 7 will be a good excuse to get back into the game. And if you’ve been weighing a Mac versus a Windows PC, then you should know that “7″ makes Windows more attractive, though not a clear-cut choice for everyone. Windows is now easier to use and better looking than it was before, while maintaining its core advantage of cheaper, more diverse hardware.

However, most PC users should not take the release of Windows 7 as a call to action, or feel that they have to run out and buy the software for use on a computer they’re planning on keeping. The upgrade will most likely not be worth the time or money, much less the effort of hosting a Windows 7 “launch party” as Microsoft suggests.

Do you know who the FOX staffer is who comes up with his material? I can’t wait to find out. Would you post the name of his ghostwriter? Thanks!

Comment by Liz

Beck’s solution to the healthcare crisis – taken straight from his book….

Beck goes on to write that a trip to a Walgreens health clinic is “about one-sixth the cost of a trip to the emergency room,” and that the medical care is “usually given by a master’s-degree-educated nurse practitioner.” That’s well and good, but there is also a pretty strict limit on the types of medical care you can receive at retail health clinics. One such outfit, MinuteClinic, makes clear that they treat only “minor” illnesses and injuries, and states explicitly that if you need X-rays or sutures, you will be “referred to another care setting.” For Sal Fasano, whose son needs heart surgery, a trip to Walgreens isn’t going to solve anything. Nor will it help someone in need of chemotherapy or an MRI.

A 2006 study by the Department of Health and Human Services found that the five most expensive health conditions to treat were heart disease, cancer, trauma, mental disorders, and pulmonary conditions, and that these five conditions alone accounted for 31 percent of the total growth in health care spending from 1987 to 2000. To what extent can retail health clinics defray the expense of treating these conditions? Beck doesn’t say — indeed, it doesn’t appear as though he even considered it.

To sum up, Beck’s “free-market” solution is divorced from reality and completely unserious, which is pretty much what we’ve come to expect from Beck when it comes to health care and a host of other issues.

Comment by Liz

Go to Walgreens.

No, seriously. That’s the “free-market” solution to rising health care costs that Beck offers in Arguing with Idiots. From pages 258-259:

That leaves those who attack the American health-care system with only one main argument: quantity versus quality. Sure, America has the best health-care system, they’ll say. For those who can afford it-but too many can’t.

Finally, an argument with some truth to it. For all of its unacknowledged virtue, our health-care system does still leave too many without coverage. The real question is what can rectify that more efficiently: a free market or a government monopoly?

Answer this question: What three letters can get you quality medical care for about half the price of a typical doctor’s appointment and provide a 90-day supply of most prescription medications for less than a movie and popcorn, all while giving you the opportunity to pick up Cheetos, Mentos, Oreos, Pepto, and probably even this book-o.

The answer is W-A-L. You can get all of these things at your local Walgreens and/or Wal-Mart.

Walgreens is leading the way in the development of retail health clinics, which means that you can basically see a medical professional right in the pharmacy. Wait times are minimal, the cost is low, and you can grab a Whatchamacallit bar on the way out.

Comment by Liz

I don’t want to put my health in the hands of the “new” Republican party – do you? I bet you use Walgreens all the time crackdog, since you refuse to buy medical insurance. Is that your solution?

Hi Chas. I was talking to Kevin last night. I had a thought this morning about the tired old “evil corporation” rap that is used by the left.

Corporations are not created in order to create jobs; they are created to make money by providing goods and services to customers to make a profit for the shareholders. So many Americans think that business exists just to provide jobs. School districts do not exist to provide jobs to teachers and support staff.. They exist to provide a service… I could go on and on. But, this is why so many people use the corporate communist cliche- they have it all wrong about why companies or the military or the public institutions exist. The same people who howl about “corporate greed” are invested in the profits of these organizations via their retirement funds. Many public employee retirement funds are invested in the same companies that they rail against. Quite amusing to me.

Right Chas. I learned this best when I was on the school board. The employees in general had no idea where the money came from to pay their compensation. They figured the government just has the money. And that was my whole point about these “stimulus” jobs. Most of them go away when the grants run out. When the highway is finished or the bridge or the any of the public projects are finished – so are the jobs. Only the brainless don’t see that. I remember listening to a peed off man at the laundromat one day screaming about how Bush cost him his cop job….he had no idea that he got the job from the grants from Clinton’s 100,000 cop scheme and that the money had run out when Bush was president. He was totally not clued in about the fact that the job Clinton “gave” him was temporary. It happened all over our state….the local municipalities could not afford to fund the cop jobs when the grant ran out so they lost their jobs and blamed it on Bush. Of course, it was all his fault

You Michigan people are in the boonies aren’t you? I figured as much. Lots of ignorance in rural areas – mostly it’s from non-exposure to “life” in general.

Comment by John

Chas you can not correct ignorance. If it wasn’t for business Gov would not exist. Some people are just too dumb to understand that. How pathetic!

Comment by Gini

Hi Colleen…of course, the new ‘ram’ and ‘firewall’ doesn’t keep comments fr getting eaten. How are you? and how is your fam? We are all fine here, and finally getting rested up. Total exhaustion, ya know. lol YIKES! lol And it’s cold here, YUK! lol grrrrrrrrr….

Yikes Carolyn…boo hoo!!! Nothing is ‘frozen’ here in Ohio yet, and I am not looking forward to frozen thangs, either. Our new little heater works, however, to take the chill off the house in the a.m. w/o turning the furnace up. A good purchase, I think. lol

Which is why I no longer try John. Some people just can’t take a hint.

Gini, your getting all the rain we had—sorry :( See there talking about the flag. I have a flag in my front windshield. Been there since 9-11. I even went through Canada with it there! Hubby put his flag he brought home from 2 tours of Nam ( Special Forces ), after 9-11. We since took it down so it wouldn’t do more damage to it. Would of loved for a neighbor tell him he couldn’t fly that American flag! Pretty sure there would of been a brawl! ;)

Comment by Gini

Good morning Sal! brrrrrrrrrrr here, and you? brrrrr there as well, I suspect. lol YUK…I also need to find my winter coat and gloves. Halloween party tonite, for the grandkids, so am looking forward to that. Am going as a Queen, hum? More specifically, a Lady of Means, fr the Medieval period. My DIL is a costumer, so I have a gorgeous silk costume to wear. Toooo fun! :)

Yep…was raining in Okla, so that weather usually get here in Ohio, in two days Colleen. Sis calls me, and warns me of pending bad weather. ha! lol :) We are headed thataway, on the 29th. Taking dad home, ya know. lol

Comment by Gini

I don’t however think, Colleen, it is the majority that doesn’t care. It’s a very loud and socialistic/marxist grp, trying to insinuate itself on the general population, yet again. We are abt to find out if they will be successful. 2010 is right around the corner, and we will see how determined the citizen is, hum? lol

We will be gone, but I think my son will be here to hand out candy, and my other son will be here w/his new fam, to trick or treat. I am going to definitely decorate the porch for Halloween, even tho we will be gone, and hopefully someone will come and water my plants, while I am gone! :)

I used do Halloween up pretty big but don’t feel it this year. Most of the kids go trick-or-treating over at the university dorms so it is not always worth the fuss anymore.

Gini, I HOPE that if what has happened in the last 9 mos to this Country will have opened up the eyed of many Americans & pray the they also would want to put the pride back into this country.Sadly the way things are going with he/said & she/ said as far as all this talk of race on every level is going to really rip this country apart along with all of the other front issues.I would really like for all of this P/C crap to be gone with the wind.

Comment by Gini

We fly our flag every day, as do our neighbors. I can’t imagine what would happen if someone complained. We live in our own house, however, not an apt complex, where strange rules might pop up. I am glad they won their viewpoint, and the flags are now permitted. Diversity does not equal being patriotic or unpatriotic. The controversy over the flag is ridiculous, of course. If ya don’t like our flag, then don’t look at it, hum? OR, move to a country where you like ‘the flag’ of, hum? Ridiculous, and only possible in a country where pep have much, but possibly have no appreciation for any of it. Fat and lazy, perhaps? and uniformed as well……perhaps. lol Very sad, and so it goes.

Comment by Colleen

Hey Gini, tell ya what I will go ask my brother if I can borrow those big fans they use for fires to blow all the bad weather out of your way, so your trip will be clear sailing! :)

We are on the ride of our lives, this time around, and it’s a dangerous game we are engaged in, for sure. It’s always been a dangerous game, and now it is more so, w/our new admin, and their very strange view points, and a congress run amuck, with no interest in what their constituents think abt the ‘issues’ in front of us all. Yep…we need to stay diligent, for sure…..

Well, where ever I go in this college town people are shaking their heads about what this administration has done to everyone. Normally every one flies their liberal flags but I have not talked to one single person who is thrilled with this guy. To a person, they are all dismayed. And I get around…

Just wait til the university and public school instructors get taxed on their health plans!

Comment by carolynro

And where are all the media watchdogs who used to compare campaign promises to the actual actions of the president? Where is all the transparency? Obama promised health care plan negotiations would be broadcast on C-SPAN.

Months ago, the negotiations for moving G’itmo detainees to Michigan began and there is no national coverage of that. Today is the public hearing on this plan that was promoted by the prison months ago.

In my neck of the woods, be it small the American Flag flies all over. Had a laugh @ my one neighbor ( he must of had one to many that day ;) ), he had went out to put up a new flag, fine-problem was he also has had a Christian flag on the pole also, I look over & he had put the Christian flag up first! :P We got him good!!!! :) He is a vet also.

Said before if someone was to hurt a member of there family, these softies would do anything to protect there families.

I think the prison that is closing is in Standish, Michigan. And what I can find today is that there is a community hearing on it today.

Comment by Liz

I think the prisoners should be sent here to save those jobs! After all, they are not very dangerous. A lot of them were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever happened to the 12-year-old that they held onto for 6 years?

Critics of a proposal to move detainees from Guantanamo Bay to the Standish Maximum Correctional Facility made their case before a largely sympathetic audience in suburban Detroit.

GUANTANAMO DETAINEES
More criticism of Gitmo transfer proposal voiced

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) – Critics of a proposal to move detainees from Guantanamo Bay to the Standish Maximum Correctional Facility made their case before a largely sympathetic audience in suburban Detroit. Monday night’s forum was organized by the Michigan Coalition to Stop Gitmo North, a group of state residents who oppose moving detainees from the U.S. military prison in Cuba to the state prison scheduled that’s scheduled to close Oct. 31. The Detroit Free Press reports some panelists warned that the transfers would put Standish, the Mackinac Bridge and other targets at risk of terror attacks. Guantanamo Bay houses approximately 200 suspected al-Qaida, Taliban and foreign fighters. The prison provides about 300 jobs. Officials in Au Gres and Arenac County have endorsed moving the detainees to Standish to temper the scheduled closure’s economic impact.

Comment by Liz

How are they in danger of terror attacks? Would that be because the prison is easy to escape from – or maybe because Standish would become a missile target of Afghanistan? Both ludicrous! LOL If it saves Michigan jobs, I’m all for it.

Hi Gang,

At the present time, I’m feeling a little cynical about ALL politicians. It seems that everyone, including Republicans, are unbelievably partisan. It’s all about winning, and pride, and ego. I honestly wish we could do away with the party system. I’m not sure it is good to have parties at all. We should simply have men and women who want to vote their consciences in the interest of America. We want to associate various positions–both good and bad– to a party. Conservatives, we think, have to be Republicans; and liberals have to be Democrats. Patriotism, some believe, is something Democrats don’t have; and racism is something that many want to lay only at the Republicans’ door. Everyone has a cheap accusation to level at someone on the “other side”. Everyone has a game to play. Frankly, I don’t want to “vote” in this little “election” either. It doesn’t matter who this person is. If he or she is real ( the Whitepower for Fox nut), we have our work cut out for us AS AMERICANS! If the Whitepower for Fox” blogger is one of us, that blogger is too STRANGE to be telling his or her opinion ANYWHERE! I suggest they get professional help!

Comment by Liz

WASHINGTON, July 24 (UPI) — Some Democratic lawmakers from Michigan are viewing the Guantanamo detainees as a possible means of boosting their state’s finances, legislators say.

Several Democrat members in the U.S. House and Senate are floating the idea of housing detainees from the U.S. detention facility in Cuba in Michigan prisons set to close because of the state’s budget crunch, The Hill reported Friday.

The move would save or create jobs in a state with the nation’s highest unemployment rate of 15.4 percent.

Comment by Liz

I hear you Roy – white supremacy is ludicrous and divisive – as Rush Limbaugh found out!

Unfortunately, we are stuck with the 2-party system – and all the corruption that goes with it. The way I look at it, you have to pick the party with the most honest/ethical people – and right now that party is the Dems. During the Reagan years it was the Repubs. Seems like no one wants to be “vetted” by cable TV, so no good candidates are emerging anymore! Too bad!

Comment by Liberal

Me don’t like Rush Limbaugh. Me don’t like Fox news. They say we all dumb. They say we got air heads. Me got no air in my head. I got something else. Don’t know what it is. But I don’t think it’s air.

Comment by Roy

Liz,

I dunno. I wouldn’t think Charlie Rangle qualifies as being very honest. Nor would Tim Geitner. How about Blagovich? There are enough crooks to go around in both parties.

Comment by chas

I certainly have to have pity for the clueless.

Article I, Section 2, para 3, states a census will be taken for representation 3 years after the first meeting of Congress. Which anyone who has actually read the Constitution would know.

So any number given to the clueless question would be a guess.

chas
First census pinned the population at just under 4 million, which is irrelevant to any thing I have posted today.

I think Charlie qualifies for a few years behind bars. That’s where you’d be had you done the same thing he has.

All I want to say is Fox News is by far the most outrageous news organization that I have ever seen in my life. The only reason why I watch it is to keep informed on the distorted news and opinions of the conservative view. There is a popular saying: “Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer. Absolutely pathetic!

Comment by Gini

Hi Roy…lol :) I continue to enjoy your point of view, on the ‘news of the day’. :) I don’t think I am a Republican. I am a conservative, which is not necessarily a Repub, tho usually ‘they’ tend to be more conservative. Yep…plenty of blame to go around, for sure, and of course, bad guys on both sides of that aisle. Bad behavior, however, does not excuse more bad behavior, as you have pointed out so eloquently several times. lol :)

Comment by Gini

*I am, however, still registered as a dem, tho they have moved so far left one is wont to know whatever happened!!! YIKES! Prob need to go and re register, one of these days, when I have time, hum? lol :) Time? Guess there’s plenty of that now….

Comment by Gini

Thank you johnson, for watching FOX. Hopefully along the way, you too can be an informed citizen, and that, after all, is all that one is endeavoring to be. So, an informed citizen, watches it ALLLLLLLLLLLLL, and does their own fact chking, not believing a word of any of it. I hope that is what you are up to, cause that is what I am up to. Daunting, of course, but worth the effort always. IF one wishes to protect and defend our Representative Republic, as set for in our Constitution, that is. lol :) Thanks for your thoughts on ‘the news of the day’, fr a dif point of view. Aly’s welcomes alllll points of view of course, and the better informed, the more likely one is to be taken seriously. :)

You could, johnson, start the journey by clicking on Chas’ name, for some info on the Constitution, which may have escaped you, with it all sooooooooooooo confusing, hum? I recommend it, to polish up on what exactly the Constitution does say. Sterling is also a good read, for info abt the news of the day, as well as Frank, who also has a blog full of info. You might be pleasantly surprised to find out that not everyone is totally BRAIN DEAD, hum? And informed people do have something important to contribute to the conversation, whether you may agree or not. IF you have come here to just bash, you are prob in the wrong room, of course. Hopefully that is not what you are up to. Serves no one, and clutters up the conversation, hum? Not fun for you, and certainly not fun for anyone else. lol :) Read EVERTHING, believe NOTHING AT ALL, w/o doing your own research. lol :)

Comment by Gini

*and Carolyn has a great blog as well….this grp that comes to Aly’s is very informed, and one could learn a thing or three, if interested…or not, if there is no interest at all, of course. lol Not a game ya know. Serious business to be considered by allllllll citizens, and just what they want our beloved America to look like for themselves, as well as their children and grandchildren.

Comment by johnson

Listen! I don’t expect you idiots to understand. I realize you all are afraid of the way America is changing and becoming a more diverse melting pot of different cultures. We will try very hard to protect you fr your folly, as our parents protected us fr ours. Again, you are in the wrong room, I think, and you will not find a good conversation, with no facts to back up your viewpoint. Bashing for the sake of, is a waste of my time for sure, and surely you have something more important to do? You could start by READING THE CONSTITUTION, hum? lol

Comment by MetalGirl1

Comment by Roy

Hello again,

I just heard that one of the senators from my state (Rockefeller) is pushing for the public option. I was able to support him in the past. He is a liberal democrat; but his seniority gives him more power to do West Virginia good than a newly elected senator. Since I am an Independent, I held my nose and gave him my support, even though he is a liberal. Now that he is supporting the public option, I will NOT support him at the next election. My vote is going for his opponent.

Comment by Gini

Sandi…too true, and of course, not a worthy opponent for this space of informed and ‘humorous’, LTD’S. Wonder why ‘they’ come here to Aly’s? She’s not got a huge blog, so what is the business of these pep, but to cause trouble? I am always interested in a dif point of view, but do insist it be defended w/facts, and not just bad language and shooting fr the hip, hum? lol Brrrrrrrr, here still. YUK! The plumber is back to fix a small leak in the faucet in the bathroom. No water, so perhaps I should switch to beer??? HA! OH….a little early for that perhaps. Dog On Crack,

If you’re still out there, I’m serious about the tea party idea for the tri-state area. I’m just trying to think of a good time. Presently, it is, of course, October. Do you think a good time would be just before the election next year–say about a week? Plus, I’ve never organized one of these things before (or anything else for that matter. Do you think we should put an ad in the Herald Dispatch? Print and copy a couple hundred flyers? Be thinking of a few ideas. I’ll do the same; then we’ll arrange to meet. That shouldn’t be hard.

From the transcript of Rush’s show dated September 18, 2009:

Dem pollster on a talk show on WPTF speaking to radio host Bill LuMaye: Hear how the dem is saying that democrat campaign managers are asking pollsters to not poll in their states because it looks so grim for their democrat candidates!

“RUSH: Here is our blowtorch affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina, yesterday, WPTF radio, the Bill LuMaye Show. He’s talking to Tom Jensen, the director of Public Policy Polling communications, and he says, “How important are your polls to a political party, whether Republican or Democrat? Do they look at this and go, ‘Holy cow’? They recognize the trouble they’re in, don’t they?”

JENSEN: Absolutely. We’ve had campaign managers for Democratic candidates in other states call us up and ask us not to poll their states because they don’t want the public to know –

LUMAYE: Really?

JENSEN: — how bad their status is. So we know we’re in big trouble. (snorting laugh)

RUSH: This is the Democrat director of Public Policy Polling.”

It’s too bad the Repubs had to resort to all the lying and scare tactics instead of just cooperating. Then maybe they would have been taken seriously. Obama said nice things about a “stupid” southern governor today who has dissed him repeatedly. At least he’s trying to be bipartisan – something which the “new” republicans don’t understand. This is what you guys want, right?

10 years ago the average family of four paid $6,000 a year for health insurance. Today, it’s $12,000 for the same coverage. In 10 years it will be $24,000 if there’s no reform.

Sound good?

Regarding your 9:46 post, I know where you are coming from.

Tell me please, from where are those figures derived? What percentage of the average family’s income was spent on health insurance? What percentage of the average working citizen’s income was paid or supplemented for health care insurance? Is it the same as today’s dollars? Do you know? Or are you just paid to spit out imaginary numbers and figures? Or to coerce citizens into health scare insurance?

And just to be clear, so that we morons and idiots and otherwise stupid people can understand it, where exactly in the Constitution does is say that every citizen is entitled to health care insurance? Where exactly, in the law of the land, does it say that some of us more entitled than others, to well, entitlements?

Oh yeah, that’s right, you’re a liberal. No facts or figures are required. So sayeth you, so sayeth it be.

Comment by chas

Sterling,

Since the Government is unable to calculate simple things like cash for clunkers, I doubt their ability to estimate the rise in health care cost. Especially since they don’t want you to know the increase.

But if you toss around 10 year figures the average income of tax payers went from $46,000 in ‘99 to $58,000 in ‘08. Seems to me, that the rise in health care cost seems to reflect the general rise in income.

Of course a demon is always needed. When gas prices were up, it was “big oil” who made less profit margin than any bottled water company. Today it’s insurance companies who sit down around number 35 of high profit margin companies. I don’t think 4% is all that unreasonable, but I think that lower cost could still be achieved by cutting waste and fraud.

Do that first, and then we can talk. Ya think? ;)

Airlines are challenged by weak revenue and volatile fuel prices, but many executives think keeping loyal customers happy is the best way to improve their business, according to a new survey.

Raising revenue and keeping customers happy is a tricky balancing act, however.

Travel-reservations-technology company Sabre said Wednesday that it surveyed 90 airlines around the world, and 86 percent said efforts to maintain and build customer loyalty were had the most positive impact on their business.

In the same survey, 58 percent said merchandising and extra revenue from sources such as fees for checking baggage would help them financially.

Comment by Liz

Incomes did not double, but health insurance premiums did. How do insurance companies justify the increases? Their CEO needed the money! That’s about the only excuse they can come up with. Not only did the premiums increase, but the chances of being dropped from your policy because you got sick increased by 100%. This is just general knowledge. Anyone who defends this is not thinking.

Right back atcha, toots. You check your facts. Better yet, post your links or have the decency to differentiate between facts and your opinion. Anyone with half a brain in their head knows that when the cost of what is insured goes up, as in health care delivery, the cost of insuring it goes up, too. Your car insurance premium is more than what it once was because your automobile is worth more. Your property insurance is more because your property is worth more than it once was. Not everyone is paying twice as much for their insurance premiums, either. That’s a fallacy. Regarding the increase in insurance premiums, state how much is shouldered by employers, rather than a direct expense to individuals. You are blowing up statistics in order to prove that your opinion is right. Post facts, if you know how.

It is all these people who never listen to Rush but pretend to understand his show or to understand him that are spreading lies and misinformation about any and all commentators and media personalities that happen to not fall in with the left wing propaganda machine which is being led by Rahm Emanuel out of the White House to destroy any oppositional behavior. What happens when the access to services that they are accustomed to getting for a very low, if any, cost suddenly are no longer easy to access or free? This will sink in as more information comes out. 54% of Americans are against Obamacare right now. Only the idealogues and the stupid think it is good to add 10 years of tax hikes in return for 5 years of benefits.

Experts from all walks of life who are not tied to insurance companies or pharma or the AMA etc all see disaster with adding another $2.2 trillion to the deficit. The projections are now that Obama will add $9 trillion of debt to the American taxpayer. This must be taken into consideration. Moving on this issue just to make it feel like movement is happening without assessing the impact is foolish. Obama and congress don’t have to live with the consequences…they have guaranteed pay and benefits as long as they can manage to serve for 5 years and then they are home free. None of the rest of us who will be subjected to this tyrannical legislation have that comfort.

Maureen Miller
AC360° Writer

Rush Limbaugh’s effort to buy a stake in the Saint Louis Rams is over. The controversial radio talk show host was supposed to be a limited partner in a group that wanted to buy the NFL team. Though, the head of that group now says Limbaugh will have no part in the bid.

“It has become clear that his involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions; endangering our bid to keep the team in Saint Louis, ” the head of the group Dave Checketts said in a statement tonight.

As we mentioned earlier this week on 360°, Limbaugh’s involvement had run into opposition within the NFL due to his past remarks about African-Americans in general and some black NFL players.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed doubts yesterday when he said Limbaugh’s “divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about.” Also Tuesday, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said he would vote against a bid that involved Limbaugh. Keep in mind: any bid needs three-quarters of existing owners to agree.

Comment by Liz

The NFL is NOT a political organization – they just don’t want to deal with Limbaugh’s divisive rhetoric. I’m sure that most owners are conservative – and they love the “Bush” tax loopholes. Why would they want to pay their fair share of taxes? Of course they don’t all feel that way, and many actors also don’t mind paying their fair share. That’s called “giving back” – and that’s what this nation is all about.

Comment by Sterling

Life and liberty are rights. Health care is not a right. Neither are jobs, homes, cars, pensions, or bubble gum, for that matter. And neither should any of those things be supplied to me or anyone else off the back of another citizen. To presume that this is moral or good or right by a government leads to tyranny. My life and liberty cost no one else a penny.

The hidden costs of ObamaCare

Floyd and Mary Beth Brown • October 16, 2009

As an expert in antitrust and healthcare, Professor Clark Havighurst of Duke University Law School often speaks of restoring the “price tags” to health care. In The Wall Street Journal, Holman W. Jenkins, Jr. wrote regarding Havighurst’s theory: “Now that’s a concept that the public could actually make sense of.”

“The public is not as dumb as it’s made out to be,” says Jenkins. After the public options died in the Senate Finance Committee, Jenkins claims, “What’s left is a package of ‘reforms’ that are mere trite extensions of what we’ve been doing for decades… piling up mandates on private insurers and then lying that this somehow isn’t driving up the cost of health insurance,” and “piling up subsidies for health consumption and then lying that this isn’t responsible for runaway health-care spending.”

Obamacare Tax Frays Middle-Class Vow:

Commentary by Kevin Hassett

Oct. 12 (Bloomberg) — The U.S. Senate’s version of Obamacare finally is emerging into broad daylight, and the more people see of it, the less popular it should be.

For all the rhetoric, the plan is quite easy to sketch, thanks in part to an analysis by the congressional Joint Committee on Taxation.

So here goes: Under the health-care plan advanced by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, lower- and middle-class people who have insurance today are going to be taxed and squeezed in order to cover people who don’t.

The money to finance the new entitlement comes from two main sources, tax increases and Medicare cuts. Medicare cuts are mostly borne by elderly folks with modest means. That undoubtedly explains why seniors are so concerned.

The tax increases, by contrast, have received little attention. There has been almost no discussion of the simple question: who would pay the tab?

Comment by carolynro

Kevin Hassett continued

Think about how unusual that is. It is a radical departure from past tax debates. When President George W. Bush was in office, every tax proposal, no matter how minor, seemed to be buried by a blizzard of detailed distributional analyses that went from think-tank Web sites to the front pages of your favorite newspaper instantaneously.

In this debate, the distributional-industrial complex has remained silent.

Such remarkable silence in the noisiest town on earth can only be caused by an uncomfortable truth. And the mother of all uncomfortable truths is lurking below the surface in the health debate. If you are a card-carrying member of the left-wing establishment, you can’t analyze the distributional consequences of the health bill, because if you do, you will catch President Barack Obama in a lie.

Comment by Liz

(CBS) A clear majority of Americans — 72 percent — support a government-sponsored health care plan to compete with private insurers, a new CBS News/New York Times poll finds. Most also think the government would do a better job than private industry at keeping down costs and believe that the government should guarantee health care for all Americans.

Comment by Liz

The Baucus bill will be “fundamentally” changed!

Comment by carolynro

Americans who support this president spending trillions of dollars in the name of “reform” that does not reform must take your heads out of your cloud of delusional fog and look at the price tag. To be happy about insuring one group of people by taking away from another group is insanity. There has to be a better way but it won’t be found because the politicians are too dumb to change how they do things. They are repeating all of the mistakes that they always make….cow-towing to the left wing and shoving ill conceived plans down our throats and ignoring the warnings from the CBO and the people who pay the bills. Disgusting.

The Problem With Two Conflicting Health Reform Polls
Newsweek
October 16, 2009

By Jeremy Herb

Do Americans support health reform? Depends how you ask. A Fox News story today – headlined “Opposition to Health Care Reform Holds Steady” – said Americans oppose reforms proposed by the Senate 54 percent to 35 percent. A CBS poll last week, however, said the public supported a public-option by a two-to-one margin, 62 percent to 31 percent. Why the disparity? The answers you get depend on the questions you ask.
The CBS poll asked about government-run health care this way: “Would you favor or oppose the government offering everyone a government administered health insurance plan-something like the Medicare coverage that people 65 and older get-that would compete with private health insurance plans?” Compare that to the Fox News poll, which focused its question on the legislation in Congress: “Based on what you know about the health care reform legislation being considered right now, do you favor or oppose the plan?”

Comment by carolynro

“The way that both news organizations posed their questions are problematic. CBS compared the public option directly to Medicare, leaving respondents with the idea, conscious or unconscious, that a government-run plan would be like Medicare, something favored in the public eye. (It’s not yet clear if or how closely a public plan would track Medicare.) Fox, on the other hand, asked its respondents to take what they know about health-reform legislation and decide if they favor “the plan.” Of course, there are five plans in Congress right now, and most people are confused by the legislation that’s proposed. And by tying health reform to Congress, it’s tied to an organization with pitiful approval ratings.

In general, health-reform poll numbers tend to be unreliable. But when surveys don’t ask simple questions, they are asking for skewed responses. These kinds of poll questions are like the discredited report this week from America’s Health Insurance Plans, which took certain elements of the Baucus bill to incorrectly claim premiums would rise-they only make the public more skeptical and cynical. We are much more interested in knowing whether Americans support a public option in concept, which is much different question from whether they approve of something that’s like Medicare (even if this turns out to be true) or whether they’ve be reading H.R. 3200.

Comment by carolynro

YOU HAVE TO READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE OR POLL WHEN TOUTING THAT IT SUPPORTS A PARTICULAR VIEW. YOU CANNOT JUST READ A COUPLE OF SENTENCES AND CALL IT GOOD. CBS AND FOX ASK DIFFERENT QUESTIONS AND GET DIFFERENT RESPONSES. CBS SKEWED IT’S QUESTIONS TO PROMPT RATERS TO THINK THAT THE GOVERNMENT OPTION WAS LIKE MEDICARE. FOX ASKED RATERS TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ON WHAT THEY UNDERSTOOD ABOUT THE LEGISLATION. TWO VERY DIFFERENT THINGS. SO, FOX WOULD GET ANSWERS THAT ARE BASED ON THE INFORMATION THAT IS OUT THERE. CBS ASKED QUESTIONS THAT LEAD PEOPLE TO BELIEVE THAT OBAMA CARE WILL MIRROR MEDICARE AND THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT IS THE CASE.

Rarely are poll questions not loaded. Shhh we’re not supposed to know that.

Qinnepiac Poll October 8, 2009

“The public says it doesn’t want Congress to pass a plan that only gets Democratic votes, but with apparently solid opposition from the congressional Republicans to Obama’s plan it will be interesting to see how this issue plays in 2010 should the Democrats push through a bill with just their own votes,” said Brown. “The long-term politics of a Democratic-only bill are clear as mud because they would almost certainly depend on how the public likes the finished product when it comes time to vote in 2010 and 2012.”

On the negative side, voters don’t believe 71 – 19 percent that Obama can keep his promise that health insurance reform will not add to the federal deficit, down from 72 – 21 percent disbelief August 5. Even Democrats believe 50 – 32 percent that health insurance reform will add to the deficit. “

Do we have that right? Meanwhile, we contemplate a health care takeover that will cost trillions in the long run. But no one’s going to pay more in taxes? Okay, are we all on the same page now?

Where do you come up with “trillions”? Post a link please! The healthcare bill will cost $800 billion – and that’s the highest I’ve seen. And that’s just “upfront”. After a few years it will become “deficit neutral”. If you don’t know how to figure it out – LEARN! I can’t teach you everything!

I think you’re confusing the healthcare bill with the national deficit.

Right – polls cannot be counted on. Too many different ways to ask a question. What we DO know is that Obama was elected to get this done, and he will.

Comment by Liz

Sorry Merle, but most Americans are against the “wars”!

Comment by Liz

There are better ways to deal with terrorism – drones have done more for Obama than the wars did for Bush in 8 years! Much has been accomplished in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Even Bill O’Reilly is impressed with the way he’s handling those situations.

Comment by Sterling

I think you need to listen to your man Harry Reid who said himself that it will wind up costing 2 trillion dollars. That’s two, as in more than one, like one isn’t already bad enough. Quite frankly, who cares about the deficit neutral thing at this stage of the game? It’s okay for him to run up the deficit with every other ridiculous stimulus, cash for clunkers, $250 for each senior, and what not, but not with health care? So how does health care get paid? Off the backs of the working citizen. That’s okay, though, as long as we don’t admit that it’s a tax, and as long as we don’t add to the deficit. If you don’t know how to figure it out, then learn. But then you’re the unteachable teacher, so try your best, hon.

Accounting Tricks in the Baucus Bill

It still amazes me that anyone with a brain thinks this is a good idea:

One trick is easily explained. The bill imposes tax hikes and benefit cuts right away, including $121 billion of Medicare reductions between 2011 and 2015. But new spending really doesn’t start until five years out (2015) and isn’t fully operational until 2017. The bill uses 10 years worth of tax hikes and benefit cuts to fund a few years worth of benefits.”

Comment by carolynro

….And that’s just the start. For example, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report last week claiming the bill won’t add to the deficit. But this assumes that employers who dump employee coverage under the Baucus bill will then increase worker paychecks by an amount equal to what they had spent on health care. This replaces a nontaxable event (providing health insurance) with a taxable one (increasing worker paychecks), magically producing $83 billion in revenues. Without this windfall, the Baucus bill adds billions of dollars to the federal deficit in the first decade….

Comment by carolynro

…The CBO report also estimates that receipts from the 40% excise tax the Baucus bill would levy on “Cadillac” insurance policies “would grow by roughly 10 percent to 15 percent” a year after 2019.

That’s nonsense. If you tax something heavily you’ll get less of it. If this tax is enacted, there will be fewer Cadillac plans—and hence less revenue….

Comment by carolynro

…Under questioning at a Senate hearing Tuesday, CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf admitted that the $500 billion in tax hikes in the Baucus bill would be passed onto consumers, jacking up insurance premiums. That undercuts the argument that Democratic reforms will make health care more affordable.

Some governors are also figuring out that the proposal in the Baucus bill to expand Medicaid will shift a big chunk of the federal health-care tab to states. States, after all, pick up an average of 47% of Medicaid’s costs—and expanding it will force states to spend more…

Comment by Liz

That’s NOT the final bill Carolynro – until you get that thru your thick skull, nothing means anything. I’m sure the bill will be enacted LONG BEFORE the dates in the Baucus bill. Remember, he was pandering to his contributors…just like Grassley. It’s just a start!

Comment by carolynro

…Then there are $400 billion in benefit cuts that are frightening seniors. Jeffrey A. Anderson of the Pacific Research Institute has pointed out that the Baucus bill cuts Medicare payments to physicians by 25% within two years and keeps payments at that level forever, without adjusting for inflation. If this becomes law, doctors who take Medicare patients will see their real income decline each year.”

Comment by Liz

The “cuts” are referring to cutting out waste and fraud – and that will be easily done. It doesn’t mean cutting benefits. Comprende???

Obama Hasn’t Closed the Health-Care Sale
Wait until the voters figure out how Congress is proposing to pay for reform.

By KARL ROVE

Now that the Senate Finance Committee has voted for the health-care bill drafted by Montana Democratic Sen. Max Baucus, negotiations over the real bill can begin in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s cozy Capitol hideaway. It won’t be easy.

Democrats now face a central problem for any governing party: How to pass a major piece of legislation when there are a lot of sharply different ideas about what should be in it. Trying to reconcile what Democrats in the House prefer with what Democrats in the Senate want is already opening up divisions among the party’s supporters…

Comment by carolynro

…This week, for example, leaders of 30 labor unions called for Democrats to reject Mr. Baucus’s bill because it doesn’t include the government-run health insurance program better known as the public option. This only makes it more likely that Democrats will have a bloody fight over the public option….

Comment by Liz

Sorry, Dog! You can tell your friend that I’m not homophobic – only some conservatives on this blog are – and I really thought you were one of them! LOL

Comment by carolynro

…The problem for Mr. Obama is that the Baucus bill is being sold on the strength of accounting tricks that make it appear that it won’t add to the deficit. (This is true for the other health-reform bills, too). If fiscally conservative Democrats sign on to the bill now after publicly saying they are doing so because it doesn’t add to the deficit, they may end up bailing once the tricks are revealed to the public….

Fox Dynamic Poll:

only 43% of people who voted for Obama would vote for him today.

Comment by Liz

There will be NO fight over the public option Carolynro – they have enough votes to easily enact it – and they will. They did want some Republican support, but unfortunately the Republican senators don’t want to do their jobs. I think their pay and benefits should be cut, don’t you?

Republicans are doing their job- they are trying to protect the economy and the individual rights per the constitution. Only 43% of those who voted for Oselfrighteous would vote for him today- that says alot about how badly his support has eroded. That is just one poll but other will be coming out. another poll says his support has dropped 22% since January. These polls show the creeps in congress what their future is and they will act accordingly. I can only hope…

I didn’t think there was a bill? The desperation to be right is making a fool of those who put emotion over fact and logic. Harry Reid is a big fat propagandist. I learned a long time ago that when someone has to brag about what they are doing- as Reid did the other day about all the support the health bill has- then I know they are in trouble. People don’t generally brag when they are confident in their actions. But, I have a lot of experience observing human nature .

From the Cato Institute:
Michael F. Cannon, director of health policy studiesmcannon@cato.org:

“The CBO score of the Baucus bill is like a mystery novel with the last 50 pages missing. It fails to reveal both the full cost of the bill and the budget gimmicks that Mr. Baucus uses to hide that cost.

The Baucus bill will not reduce the deficit, and it would ultimately cost taxpayers more than $2 trillion—just like every other bill Congress has produced so far.

The biggest gimmick employed by the bill is that its individual mandate pushes more than half of the legislation’s cost off-budget, and onto businesses and individuals who will have to shoulder that burden. A real-world parallel already exists in the Massachusetts health care plan, where private-sector mandates account for 60 percent of the cost. In 1994, CBO counted those mandated private payments in the federal budget, and it helped kill the Clinton health plan. This time around, Democrats were very careful to craft their mandates so that they just barely avoided having the CBO include those payments in the federal budget. But the CBO’s decision does not change the fact that those private-sector mandates are part of the cost of this bill.”

More from the Cato Institute:
The Real Cost of the Baucus Bill: $2 Trillion+

Thursday, October 8, 2009

Michael D. Tanner, senior fellowmtanner@cato.org:

“The CBO scoring makes it clear that the Baucus bill’s reduction in future budget deficits comes not from controlling government spending or reducing health care costs, but because of a rapid escalation in tax revenues. The bill imposes a 40 percent excise tax on health-insurance plans that offer benefits in excess of $8,000 for an individual plan and $21,000 for a family plan. Insurers would almost certainly pass this tax on to consumers via higher premiums. As inflation pushes insurance premiums higher in coming years, more and more middle-class families would find themselves caught up in the tax.

In fact, overall, the tax increases in the bill are more than double the amount of deficit reduction. This isn’t a health care efficiency bill or a cost containment bill. It is a tax and spend bill, pure and simple.”

Once a bill starts on the wrong path we are stuck with it. The entire premise behind this so-called health bill is built on getting into the taxpayer’s pocket. If were truly about health care for Americans tort reform would be addressed, covering the uninsured without taking insurance away from private holders and Medicare recipients, and not increasing the cost of insurance and care would have been the primary hallmarks of the bill. But, the fact that so many tricks are used as an illusion should set off alarms in people and not give them comfort that the bills will actually do anything except to create another voting block for the democrats.

WAll Street Journal

By JANET ADAMY and GREG HITT

WASHINGTON — Hospitals and insurance companies are pushing back against changes to the latest Senate health-care bill that ease the penalties for Americans who don’t carry health insurance.

The Senate Finance Committee could vote late this week on a sweeping bill designed to expand health-insurance coverage. Senators refining the legislation last week narrowed the scope of a new requirement that all Americans carry health insurance out of concern it penalized people who can’t afford to buy it.

A last-minute change to a provision in the health-care bill, which penalizes people who choose not to carry health insurance, is causing concern for hospitals and insurance companies. WSJ’s Janet Adamy explains why.

The changes mean the new mandate would apply to two million fewer people, largely those with lower incomes.

Hospitals say that leaves too few people covered under the bill — a shortfall that could undermine a cost-cutting pledge by the industry. In July, the hospital industry agreed to swallow $155 billion in government payment cuts over the next decade to help fund expanded coverage of the uninsured. Uninsured patients cost hospitals money when institutions provide treatment that isn’t fully paid for.

Comment by carolynro

continues:
“The Congressional Budget Office estimated that an earlier version of the Senate Finance bill would ensure health insurance for 91% of Americans — leaving about 25 million people without coverage. The CBO’s estimates for the latest version of the bill are due out this week; it is expected to cover fewer people. About 85% of Americans currently have health insurance.

The industry concerns illustrate one tension at the heart of the latest Senate bill. Key industries bought into the measure — and agreed to absorb cuts in reimbursements — on the expectation that millions of new customers would be brought into the health-care system. The weaker the mandate to buy insurance, the fewer the new customers.”

Comment by carolynro

continued:

…Alissa Fox, a senior vice president at the BlueCross BlueShield Association, which represents 39 independent insurers nationwide, estimated that the latest proposal’s top penalties for not carrying insurance, which peak at $1,900 a year for families, represented only about 15% of the average health-insurance premium.

“It’s essentially creating a marketplace where people can wait to buy coverage until they get sick,” Ms. Fox said.”

Talking Points: Blue Cross Blue Shield Report
· Another day, another self-serving and deeply flawed analysis from the insurance industry.

· Like the AHIP report from earlier this week, the Blue Cross Blue Shield report is hard to take seriously.
o It comes at a time when we’re closer than ever to reform that will rein in some of the industry’s worst practices.
o And it ignores critical provisions included in the Senate Finance Committee bill.

· The reality is that the Congressional Budget Office and other independent analysts confirm that the current Senate Finance Committee health reform proposal will lower health care premiums in the exchange and make health insurance more affordable for families.
o MIT Economics professor Jon Gruber recently conducted analyses based on the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office model to show that the bill will deliver savings for people purchasing health care in the nongroup insurance market, ranging from several hundred dollars for the youngest consumers to over $8500 for families.

· In order to reach the skewed conclusion it was looking for, the Blue Cross Blue Shield selectively ignores key provisions including:
o The impact that tax credits provided in the bill would have on out-of-pocket costs.
o Special policies for young adults, who BCBS claims will be hit hard, including premium credits and the choice of a special “young invincibles” plan that has a low premium.
o Benefits of risk pooling and increased administrative efficiencies of an exchange, which the non-partisan CBO says will reduce premiums.
o Investments in prevention, reducing waste, and other policies that independent analysts say will help bend the long-term health cost curve.

Experts have reported on all the tricks used by Baucus to make his bill fit into the pre-ordained “deficit neutral” requirment (lie) that Obama says he will abide by. Reports stated that he backed his plan into this “requirement” and fashioned it so that the costs are stretched out over a 10 year period to make it look like there are savings. The CBO refused to give a 10 -year estimate. The democrats are showing the price spreading the costs of 5 years of the plan stretched ahead and spread over 10 years which lowers the yearly cost on paper but shows how dishonest the plan is.

This week, Michigan’s Recovery Act office reported that $3.7 billion — counting grants, loans and other programs — had been allocated to the state’s agencies through the $787-billion stimulus bill and that money was credited with creating or retaining 19,498 jobs, nearly three-fourths of them in education.

Leslee Fritz, director of Michigan’s Economic Recovery Office, said judging the effect of the stimulus on jobs is “a situation that has to play out over time.”

But the data released Thursday showed wide variations and some contradictions.
(3 of 3)

Also, much of the contract data were clearly missing: The biggest single item on the Michigan list was the federal General Service Administration’s $53-million purchase of light passenger vehicles from Chrysler Group LLC. But it is the only purchase contract reported by the first deadline, which passed last Saturday.

GSA, on the other hand, has reported pages upon pages of contracts with Chrysler, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co. for vehicle purchases.

The data, meanwhile, also showed Michigan faring poorly on a per-capita basis compared with its neighbors. Michigan contractors have won about $12 for each of the state’s 10 million people — less than most other states, including Indiana ($23), Ohio ($22) and Minnesota ($17).

But, again, the data showed wide variation. Colorado’s contracts have been worth about $112 per capita so far; Alaska’s $379. The figure will likely change as more contract data are reported.

Comment by Liz

Sterling, it doesn’t matter to me what you think – I’m just trying to take out the misinformation. The healthcare bill will pass with no problem – and it can’t be stopped now, so why bother with the lies anymore? You’ll see that it will be good for the country – and a lot of people will be able to stop worrying about it – especially seniors, like yourself.

Comment by Liz

Hey Carolynro – the Mackinaw Bridge authority will also be seeing some stimulus money – and they are working on it now! Infrastructure is very important, although most southern states don’t think so. They would rather watch their school buildings crumble, but that’s up to them! LOL

Comment by Just Another Blogger

Liz , it must really gall you that you’ve been on this blog all this time and you’ve not converted anyone. Are you into some kind of kinky masochism? It is a testament to the power and will of conservatives that after being maligned and smeared by liberals year after year, we just keep plugging away. You’ll never get rid of us. But keep trying. It gives us a laugh?

Comment by Sterling

Does it make you feel better about yourself when you think you’re insulting me by calling me a senior?

You’re not eliminating misinformation, you’re spreading it like manure on a field. Expressing an opinion or a thought is not spreading misinformation, even though the opinion may be misinformed. Expressing your opinion as a fact, however, is misleading and misinformative.

Your man will be lucky to get this monstrousity passed before the end of the year, without of course, sneaking it in or shoveling it down the American citizen. But then again, he hails from Shytown, so that would be right down his alley, wouldn’t it?

Comment by Sterling

LMAO, Blogger!!

But keep trying, it makes us laugh!!

Hey Dog,

I sent sent you a post message a few days ago about the suggestion I had made earlier about a TEA Party for the tri-state area. I don’t know if you read the latest one, but I’m very serious. I don’t really know how to get one organized and going, because I’ve never tried it before. As I said earlier, I’m going to print up a couple hundred flyers and put them in strategic places. I might put an ad in the paper. I thought I’d shoot for about a week or so before election day. Anyway, if you have any other ideas, let’s here ‘em.

Comment by Liz

Sterling, how many times have you and Carolynro said the economy is bad. Even Rupert Murdoch disagrees with you…..this just out…..

At News Corp’s meeting, Murdoch told investors he was “confident” about fiscal year forecasts that the company reported earlier this year. He also said News Corp is well positioned to handle the tough economic climate and has about $7 billion of cash on its balance sheet.

“The outlook for the economy is pretty steady,” he said. “We’re not going to get another vast, steep decline that we’ve experienced… nor are we going to get any steep increase.”

(and he’s thinking about buying NBC Universal)

sooooooooo……stop spreading misinformation!

Blogger – I’m studying you right wing fringers for a project. You probably already knew that though, because I think you are a regular poster using another alias, but who knows! I really don’t care.

Comment by DogOnCrack

Roy, organizing anything before the end of the year would be almost impossible with the holiday season approaching. Events on the weekends before both the primary and general elections next year seem like the most logical anyway. Ads in all the tri-state and even the Charleston papers would certainly help as well as the flyers. I know quite a few folks that will help us organize. I can send tweets, emails and post notices on blogs and social networks like Team Sarah and SGP. I’ll even ask Jessica Ralston if she’d like to do a story about it on the news.

Comment by Liz

I know you all don’t like Rachel, but she’s a Rhodes Scholar and she knows what she’s talking about – however, feel free to do your own DD…..if you care to!

Comment by Sterling

I don’t believe that I’ve ever commented on how bad the economy is, but I’ll be sure to pass on your predictions to my four friends who have been out of work for almost a year, and the one who’s hours have been cut by half, none of whom who can afford to buy groceries with any regularity. I’m sure it will fill their bellies and warm their souls that since you so sayeth, so shall it be.

And kudos on quoting Murdock when it benefits your agenda. Boy, you just keep making yourself look better and better here! Good job!

There won’t be a few rich people and a whole lot of poor people. Let presidint Obbama bring socialism. Lots of people are for it now. He knows what he is doing. Let him be.

Great Idea Dog! I agree that right before election day would be a great and probably most constructive time. Also, I didn’t know you had such great contacts (Jessica Ralston, I mean.) Way to go. I’ll try to keep in touch.

The only one who gives a patoot about Madcow being a Rhodes scholar is you. Who cares what kind of scholar she is? A blithering idiot is a blithering idiot, and double so if they paid a university to make them one.

Indy: You are joking aren’t you? Did you ever get hired by a poor person? Without a lot of rich people there are not enough tax dollars to pay for all the stuff the poor people will need. Wow. Unbelievable. Poor people don’t get to attend $40,000 a year colleges like the one you agree with does.

And again I ask…if the health reform is so good and such an emergency ready why are they sitting on it in congress? Why won’t the reform happen for another 3.5 years? What is taking so long? Why don’t they just ramrod it through? What is all the vacillation? Where are their guts? Where is the overwhelming support? Why are the banks tanking again? Where are the jobs?

Murdock said in May that things were beginning to level off but that he needed more evidence that the worst was over. That was may and there are no more recent quotes on the economy. He was in Beijing recently and talked about cracking down on people profitting from stealing the work of other online journalists. That is a paraphrase of Murdock. But, please, keep making stuff up. This is great fun finding the truth and posting it.

Hi Fox and Friends,

The reason I love watching your show is because out of all the FOX NEWS shows…you show more of that “supremacy” type rhetoric that most hosts are afraid to show. You don’t have that many monkeys on your show…just true white people who believe in the “old America” ways. Do you know that the only way to get out of the economic mess that we are in is to bring back slavery…that’s one way to get rid of the current president…bring back slavery and he would then have to become a servant. Just like my hero Rush says…slavery had it’s merits…it would definitely clear out the prisons and lower crime. Maybe if we bring back slavery, the current president would become a servant of Fox and Friends–just like that BIG MONKEY you have running around your studios. Obama would become your personal coffee getter…wouldn’t that be AWESOME.

Keep up the AWESOME work.
Love you guys,
Mikey

That’s why educated people find them repulsive and obnoxious!

Sure, that’s your excuse to avoid watching real physicians expressing their experience with insurance and government payers. Nice try, from someone who can’t stomach Beck, but claims to know all about him even though she never watches him. Intelligent, educated, mature individuals actively seek and research all forms of information, with the goal of becoming informed. There’s that pesky fraud thing again, biting you in the butt. As noted before, you have no credibility.

Video: CNN’s Rick Sanchez’s On-Air Apology for Running Fake Limbaugh Quote
By NB Staff
October 16, 2009 – 16:58 ET
As reported on NewsBusters on Friday morning, CNN anchor Rick Sanchez read his apology on Friday’s Newsroom for running a unconfirmed quote attributed to Rush Limbaugh earlier in the week on October 12 [audio available here].

Sanchez hinted to his error in a promo for the apology 37 minutes into the 3 pm Eastern hour: “Rush Limbaugh gets denied [his NFL bid], but when it comes to one specific point, I will tell you this: he was right and I was wrong. Sometimes you got to say you’re wrong when you’re wrong, right? I’ll tell you exactly what I’m talking about when we come back.”

After going to a commercial break, the CNN anchor came back, and after giving a summary of the controversy, read the apology, which was released earlier, almost verbatim:

Comment by carolynro

SANCHEZ: Earlier this week, we provided quotes attributed to Limbaugh to illustrate why some people and players felt that he was too divisive to be a NFL owner. It was one of the stories we did earlier this week. One of these quotes, which was in a column in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, and taken from a book largely about conservatives, was refuted by Limbaugh. I mentioned that to you Tuesday. We have been unable to independently confirm that quote. We should not have reported it- not have reported it- without independent confirmation, and for that I apologize. I feel it’s important on this show to hold folks accountable whenever they make mistakes- that’s what I try to do- and you know what? That should include myself and that should also include my team. It’s important to let you know that.

Comment by carolynro

So will he keep his job or forced into rehab?

Comment by Merle, NY

Hey Chas!!!! Am fine, thanks …Hope you are too :) Will check it now…

Comment by carolynro

It is more important that clinton left a surplus (which is another left wing lie) but it is ok for him to beat up women. Sheesh! How many women did he rape or bite or offer ice to after he attacked them…3 or 4 that came forward. Those women were belittled by James Carvelle and N.O.W. never stepped up to advocate for them. But because everyone believes the lie that Clinton left a surplus it is ok that he cheated on his wife and embarrassed his daughter and lied to the world under oath about Monica Lewinsky. And I did go to college and this stiff baffles me. The surplus was a clever paper work scheme that the White House cronies cooked up and was gone the minute the technology bubble sucked all the life out of the economy.

Google Inc.’s earnings and stock price are soaring again — and so is the Internet search leader’s optimism.

The reason: A third-quarter profit that was the largest yet in the company’s 11-year history combined with revenue growth accelerating for the first time since the U.S. recession began in December 2007.

The results released Thursday are the best indication yet that the Internet advertising market is emerging from its worst funk since the dot-com bubble burst at the start of the decade.

It’s still a matter of technical debate whether the worst recession in 70 years is over. But Google executives left little doubt about their read on the economy as they raved about their third-quarter results.

Also, what about the judge who denied a couple a marriage liscense because the couple was bi-racial (white woman/black man)?? This is certainly newsworthy in this day and time. I know you guys aren’t prejudiced, right?

While I may have complained in the past -that this blog can be repetitive and petty-this whitepower is to be banned.period end of story.

Comment by carolynro

Beverly: Rasmussen, regardless of your opinion of Fox, is the most accurate and has come the closest to prediction presidential races of all of the polls. He polls actual likely voters instead of random people of voting age. Some polsters weight their polls by polling more democrats than republicans. For example: During Obama’s last address on ABC, CNN conducted a poll which was comprised of over 40% democrats and only 18% republicans and came on the air with “Obama is changing the health care debate with this speech.” Just a friendly FYI.

Comment by carolynro

Yes, Allen Micheal Vick is not polarizing and about a dozen or so players who have been charged with all sorts of felonies!

Comment by carolynro

Bajette: I wonder if Ali saw those comments and decided to just let this blog run until no one can post anymore.

Comment by carolynro

Bajette: The Detroit Free Press published a piece on the number of actual jobs “created” by the stimulus bill, nation-wide. The total is a whopping 30,000. We got 400 hundred in Michigan and it cost $300,000 to create each one. The next batch of job “creation” here will likely go to public workers to keep from having to lay them off. How’s that hope and change working?

Deputies searched the home of a couple caught up in Colorado’s “balloon boy” saga Saturday night after the sheriff said he was pursuing criminal charges in a case that at first sparked fear for the child, then relief he was okay, then suspicions of a hoax.

The boy’s parents, Richard and Mayumi Heene, met with Larimer County investigators for much of Saturday afternoon amid lingering questions about whether he perpetrated a publicity stunt when his 6-year-old son Falcon vanished into the rafters of his garage while the world thought he was zooming through the sky in a flying saucer-like helium balloon.

But Sheriff Jim Alderden didn’t say who would be charged or what the charges would be. His deputies later showed up at the Heene’s Fort Collins home with a search warrant and at least three of them began a search. Sgt. Ian Stewart declined so say what they were after.
