Alisyn in the Greenroom

Sunday Morning

Alisyn’s back from vacation — Annie the Intern here. She’s catching up right now, but stay tuned — she’ll be posting today’s topics soon and looks forward to chatting with all of you!

UPDATE — I’m here, I’m here…phew, that was a late one.  Sorry bout that.  Let’s just say reentry after vacation is proving harder than expected.  Getting some R&R in a stunningly serene setting is now causing a major set back.  Remind me never to vacation again.  What’d I miss?

We’re talking about celebrities peculiar phobias this morning.  Anybody have any of their own they’d like to share?

And did you hear the story on how giving your son an unusual boy name makes him more susceptible to becoming a juvenille delinquent and spending time behind bars?  Names like Alec, Ernest and Luke are at the top of the list.  Luke, really?  Do you believe this Shippensburg University study?  Do you know of any men with offbeat names that are actually upstanding citizens?  (I’m not sure Clayton counts).

Good morning Ms Alisyn,

Talk about a sight for sore eyes. If your vacation was half as fun as the agony of missing you was, you must have had a really great time.

Seriously, it is nice to have you back. Nothing is easier on the eyes than seeing you in the anchor chair while I have my cuppa tea in the early AM.

Welcome Ms Anne. Feel fre to jump in with us.

I think the statement by Larry Summers rates up there with Al Franken’s rambling about Perry Mason and becomming a prosecutor.
It is quite obvious that once you get all the information you need, you are not going to return to the site for a social visit. Possibly they might have to raise the standards for making off the cuff assesments.
This is one more example of how many neophytes are involved with this administration, Too many “OPEN MOUTH INSERT FOOT” people.

G’ morning Ms. Gini ~ I’m not so sure about rising before me this morning, looked at the clock at 2 a.m. & had to force myself back to sleep. Hi, all, and howdy, Annie the Intern! Pease tell Ali she was sorely missed and hope she had a terrific vacation. It is hard to be a working Mom and nice to put down some of the budens and just be mommy for awhile.

I am furious at this social security debacle! ya’ll would not believe the nightmare I went through with them trying to help my 90 year old mother in law when they tried to overcharge her and take money BACK they said they paid her in error. She almost had a heart attack over it, seriously, being upset. And now they do this??!! And we want our health care in the government’s hands? I DON’T THINK SO!

Comment by βɛʈʈɥ

Well you’ve certainly have been there, done that yourself Gini ~ missed you yesterday, though the farm kept me busy.

Comment by Liz Thoren

Social Security has $700,000 for a luxury resort and party for top administrators? Are they the same men and women who have denied us a cost of living increases this year for the first time in decades.

Comment by Lanna

Good morning, Alisyn and everyone.

The $700,000 Social Security retreat is a typical example of our government spending other people’s money. They don’t care a bit, since government isn’t required to be run like a business, with your eye always on the bottom line. Unfortunately, this attitude permeates the entire government culture. Small cities in CO have budget “challenges”, so they have big conferences in Vail or Aspen to talk about it while dining, drinking and dancing on the public’s dime. Disgraceful!

Hey Alisyn,

I’m totally enthused by the story that the fellas & you were just reporting, about the list of children’s names, that were based upon a study of people that are eventually incarcerated in their lifetime, if you can send me more info that would be greatly appreciated. By the way I watch your show every morning and I love what you & yours bring to the table, a direct web site would be greatly appreciate, so I can further research this study, I’m a full time mother & physc.

Sincerely,

We used to have an elderly pool salesman and his wife who grew up in Hollywood- boy did they have some great stories! She had been a Goldwyn Girl in the movies and was still drop dead gorgeous. He was a terrific salesman and she helped him a lot, as his eyesight was bad. Great couple!

Comment by retrotx

Betty, no he was born on the 22nd and she on the 26th, but we are celebrating today because we have to take the grandchild back and this fancy place we want to go is between us and where she needs to go- our kids are meeting us there and then taking her on back to Austin with them after our birthday brunch celebration.

Comment by Diane

Fox News comments about the Social Security Administration weekend are over the top and in some instances dead wrong. First and foremost just whose fault is it that the fund is going insolvent? Is that really the truth? In Greta’s tirade on Friday night she said the managers should be at the office approving claims for hard working Americans who are waiting for benefits. Not true. Claims decisions are made by state disability determination services not SSA. The system is overburdened now with baby boomer claims, thousands of people filing disability claims who are NOT eligible but insist on filing. Additional claims now come from people who lost their jobs and decided to retire. Many people feel they have the “right” to benefits even though they never worked. SSA must take claims, they go through the system. Appeals can take several years. ALL this handled with many budget constraints including no new hires until this year. So get all the facts straight before you think you know how it works. Hmmm, 20 minute dance party does not sound like over the top to me. Donated gift baskets? Any Gucchi bags in those baskets?

Comment by Gini

Good morning Merle :) It sure is!!! ~~sigh~~ lol :)

Evolution attempts to explain the history of life.
Religion, among others things, explains the origin of life.
The two can’t contradict each other because they’re not even addressing the same issue.

Diane, 20 min dance in you home town as opposed to a trip cross country to a 5 star hotel with spouses. Seems a little over the top to me. We all have stress on the job so should the tax payers pay for a trip for us too?

Good Morning all–welcome newcomers–I see a few new names/faces—-

SS debacle—it’s been said earlier that the social security agency is overwhelmed with claims and such—and this is just the social security bureaucracy—now just imagine it all when the gov’t tries to take over health care—-Now that’s a joke!!! I bet those bureauocrats will be gettting more retreats than the SSA cuz they’re in for a boat load of stress—

Welcome back, Aly, and good morning to everyone. I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to Aly’s twitter page? Also, does anyone know much about the 9/12 project. There was a meeting in our area on July 11 which I was unable to attend. I understand there is another one tomorrow at the courthouse and then one next Saturday at one of our local motels.

Comment by John

Would you tax payers pay for my vacation? Come on guys pony up!!

Comment by retrotx

diane, show me in the Constitutuion where this party and sepdning funds on it should even be a function of the federal government? Social Security has NO RIGHY nor reason to go off on a junket to spend 700k because they have extra work to do- theyshould be doing the extra work, not partying on the taxpayer dime. I dealt with the local ss office and it was HORRENDOUS. They don’t even answer their phone, and Congress has used the funds as personal piggy banks for years. If we had all been allowed to keep and invest that money ourselves we would be living in the lap of luxury in retirement. I am NON social security now and would rather privatize it for the future. It is a ridiculous system and will cheat our kids.

Comment by DogOnCrack

One must also take in mind that science has proven Darwinian evolution, the theory of common origin among all species, to be WRONG, even though no one ever tells you that. In other words, we didn’t come from monkeys.

Evolutionary theory is only up for debate as it pertains to the adaptation of individual species to their particular environment. This is one that I’d tend to agree with and I’d contend that the various races are the most obvious evidence of that.

Hey Gini !!!!!!! Good morning to you and your family…. My mom turned 89 yesterday… We are all surprised that she is still with us. My sis was on the phone with me so I just got a chance now to answer you. My hubby bought mom a dozen roses and some various flowers for her birthday. I baked a cake and we sang Happy Birthday. Unfortunately she had no idea who I am. I hope your dad is doing well……..

Comment by Liz K

It sounds to me like that bill would remove any incentive for unions to settle disputes. They already know that the government is pro union, so they could just hold out until the required time is up and probably count on a government arbitrator coming in and giving them a sweet deal.

Comment by Gini

Good morning John…we need a job w/the government, hum??? The SS office, perhaps? One of those jobs, that got to go to the “seminar”, I think. lol :) I would say, IF the SS monies, had been left alone, perhaps there would be plenty of money, to do what it was supposed to do to begin with…keep pep out of bread lines, brght about by moments in time, when the economy has a down turn. Now the government is proposing to handle yet more monies, never intended to be in their purview, and I expect they won’t do any better job than they have done in the past. Hard times? Oh yes…I expect we are in for just that. lol

He doesn’t always know exactly where he is…thought he was “stuck in the airport” the other day, but he does know who I am still…gets the kids mixed up tho. lol There’s a bunch of them, so one might not be surprised abt that. Often thinks the daughter is me, and visa versa. We look a bit a like, so that would be no surprise either, actually. lol :) We do this one day at a time, don’t we…grateful for the day, and expecting nothing more. :)

Aw Merle, sorry she is not doing so well but happy birthday to her and I’m sure she enjoyed her treats. My mil is 90 and still WORKS every day, running her own antique shop! Fox and Friends should do a segment someday on extremely old people who still work and do active things. she still drives, too, although she doesn’t like to drive on the freeway.

I’m kinda glad, because somebody put an adult items store on the freeway south of her hometown and she would have a fit if she knew that! She reported a tattoo parlor to the police that started on the street where her antique shop is because she didn’t approve of it, LOL!

PETA is as DANGEROUS as some of the policies of the current administration to the slow destruction of the USA. They are a group that was brought to the United States from a violent activist group in Europe called ALF(Animal Liberation Front). Know your history! Do your homework, you are suppose to be reporters aren’t you?

HI! This is concerning the lobster dilemma. Why not put the lobster in room temperature water. Then turn on the heat. Slowly bring to boil. It will take longer to cook. But the lobster will never know what happened, well the lobster probably doesn’t know anyway. But you will feel better.

Texas did institute tort reform a few years ago but I don’t know the details. In general, though, our state is functioning better than the others by being run by conservative principles. I am concerned, though, too many bills are being introduced that will californicate us too much with stupid, costly regulations. I lobbied some in Austin this year for our industry for the first time and while we were successful in modifying some things they were proposing that would have run costs up for our customers, there seems to be more coming down the pike that is flat silly and expensive for people unnecessarily.

Comment by Joann

This is probably the only time I’ve ever agreed with PETA! I’ve always thought boiling any creature alive was a horrible way to die and lobsters deserve a little more mercy than that. If PETA were more sympathic towards pre-born humans they’d earn more of my respect. ‘SeaKittens’ is ridiculous!

By the way, I loved the piece yesterday am. about the elderly couple who showed the thief the love of Jesus. ‘Old school’ rocks! He went to the right house that day!

JoAnn, I always wonder too if PETA cares so much about critters how any of them can be for abortion of babies. It seems a disconnect to me to care about animals, not care about babies and favor killing the innocent but not the death penalty for people who murder others in hideous ways and are the guilty.

Save the lobsters and the criminals and kill the babies doesn’t make sense to me.

Chef Tory McPhail of Commander’s Palace
is the new Louisiana Seafood King!

New Orleans-Louisiana is known for its multitude of delicious seafood and talented chefs, but there can only be one King of Louisiana Seafood and at Saturday’s Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off, presented by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, Chef Tory McPhail of Commander’s Palace was awarded the title. The 2008 Louisiana Seafood King, Chef Brian Landry of Galatoire’s, was there to hand over his crown to the new king.

McPhail came in 1st place for his Louisiana Mixed Seafood Grill which was Grilled Black Drum, Wild Shrimp and Blue Crab over Sliced Creole Tomatoes, Basil and Grilled Corn Butter. Coming in 2nd place was Chef Nathan Gresham of Galatoire’s Bistro in Baton Rouge for his Sautéed Red Snapper with Charred Corn, Bacon Spring Onions and Louisiana Crawfish with a Creole Tomato and Saffron Butter Sauce. In 3rd place was Chef Matthew Beaudin of Le Café at L’Auberge Du Lac for his Pan Seared Amberjack and Forbidden Black Rice in a Saffron Citrus Sauce.

The other participating chefs were Jack Jennings, Kitchen Manager for La Mestiza in Prairieville; Minh Le, Executive Chef for Spahr’s Seafood Co. in Houma; Chris Lusk, Executive Chef for Café Adelaide and the Swizzle Stick Bar in New Orleans; John Salmon, Chef Instructor for Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City; and Tom Wolfe, Executive Chef and Proprietor for Wolfe’s on Rampart in New Orleans
The judge’s for the 2009 Louisiana Seafood Cook-off were Tommy Simmons, Food Editor for the Baton Rouge Advocate; Kendall Gensler, Editor and Publisher for Culinary Concierge Magazine; Charley Gibson, principle owner of Charley G’s in Lafayette; Anne Parr, assistant professor at John Folse Culinary Institute; and Chef David Slater, Chef de Cuisine for Emeril’s Restaurant in New Orleans.

“The cadre of chefs proved quite a challenge for the judges to render a decision,” said Gensler. “But, it was the simplicity and fresh flavors of Tory McPhail’s Mixed Seafood Grill that stole the show. Tory matched Black Drum, Wild Louisiana Shrimp and Blue Crab with the bright, local flavors of summer: Creole Tomatoes, Sweet Corn and Basil– Louisiana all the way!”
McPhail will represent Louisiana in the Great American Seafood Cook-Off, held July 18 at the Louisiana Foodservice EXPO in the New Orleans Morial Convention Center.

Sponsors for the Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off include the Louisiana Office of the Lieutenant Governor (OLG), the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism (CRT), the Louisiana Office of Tourism (LOT), Rouses Markets, the Louisiana Restaurant Association, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, FishWatch and Louisiana Cookin Magazine. 2012 – perhaps all the interest in the Republican 2012 ticket is due to the dissatisfaction of the current administration. Why does Twitter tell me it’s closed? I think we need borth Romney and Huckabee on a ticket- I love Sarah Palin but she seems to be a lightning rod for the Dems. Romeny would address the financial issues and Huckabee could bring in the religious right which was missing from the last election, and probably had a great deal to do with defeating Romney in the primaries.

About the Social Security trip –

I work for the Federal Government (DHHS/CMS) – and the people heading my agency are incredibly sensitive about appearance, to the point where they may make bad decisions.

We’re in the Southeastern Region of the country. A few years ago a division was looking for a place to put on some important training (for a large number of people from outside the agency). They found a hotel that had facilities available on the dates, at a good price – state of the art technical support, wonderful facilities, and located IN the region. It was one of the Disney Hotels in Orlando.

Management had a fit that they were even considering it. Instead, the training was held out of region, in Baltimore (running up travel costs) at facilities that were more expensive, and support so bad that some sessions couldn’t even show a power point presentation.

But hey, at least we didn’t “look bad”.

Sorry, couldn’t find another place to write.

This is about the IRS party on our tab.

I guess it depends how close to the money you are to the money. “Stress?” I was an Air Traffic Controller for the government for a little more than 15 years. I never even got a pamphlet on how to reduce stress…let alone a fruit basket at a posh hotel etc.

Is the government hot on limiting spending? Only the stuff in our face, and just enough to make us feel comfortable. Could you imagine what we’d find if we had an independent agency do an audit?

Enough…I don’t want to get started.

Healthcare Reform: What You Need To Know

The National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) in conjunction with the AHIA-NAIFA Health and Employee Benefits, The Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers (CIAB), Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA), and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) joined forces July 15th in a letter to congressional leaders urging them to oppose efforts to include health care reform in the budget reconciliation instructions.

On August 7, 2009 there will be a panel discussion to be held at the One America Building in the large auditorium from 8-10 and then a question and answer session from 10-12 noon. The panel will include representative from The Department of Insurance, The Indiana Chamber of Commerce, as well as several Employee Benefit Consultants. This is a FREE event. For more information visit http://www.indyahu.org

While we agree that something needs to be done in regards to reform, it is important for The House and Senate to carefully evaluate the ramifications of their bills including how they will fund the administrative costs. Americans agree that everyone needs access to quality, affordable healthcare for all. Everyone will be affected by healthcare reform including small employers, large employers, individual policy holders, Medicaid/Medicare participants as well as anyone that receives any type of medical care.

There are pros and cons regarding the impact of the current bills. The pros include: pre-existing conditions will be eliminated; guaranteed issue, affordability due to standardized plan designs, caps on out of pocket expenses and decreased premiums. The cons include: tax increases for individuals and businesses, loss of jobs due to the expense of offering health insurance as mandated by the bills, fewer choices of providers, limited plan designs, government deciding the necessity of care, which medications Americans should take and the type of benefit plans to offer.

It is time to educate yourself, your friends, family and co-workers regarding the impact of healthcare reform.

Each year when Congress writes the budget resolution, they may include reconciliation instructions for the purpose of legislating mandatory spending and tax revenue policy proposals. Under normal Senate operating procedures, it takes 60 votes to prevent a filibuster and pass legislation. With reconciliation, it only takes 51 votes to gain passage of a measure.

“Health care reform is a complex issue, one we need to address with careful consideration,” said Janet Trautwein, Executive Vice President and CEO of NAHU. “To rush hastily into any sort of large-scale reform is to ignore the complexities of the health care system and the enormous role it plays in every American’s life. To achieve our goal of making high-quality health care accessible and affordable to every American, we cannot and must not fast-track health care reform.”

Palin is a very interesting public figure and the media can’t figure her out. Hour after hour one pundit after another on both sides of the fence demanded that her political future was over. Each one of them gave their tired lists of all the reasons why. Only problem is that they did not go beyond the confines of their east coast pals to gauge the impact of her decision. One pundit would listen to another pundit and parrot the same rhetoric.

What really happened after July 3rd? SarahPAC picked up another $200,000 within days and her popularity has gone through the roof! And, she has not even broken the ties that have her bound at this time. As she recently promised on twitter, a new, less constrained Palin will be appearing after the 26th and many of us can’t wait for that day!

As I understand it, there are some very nasty details in the current health care proposal including requiring all insurances to cover abortion. The word abortion isn’t included, but the language does provide for it. There are also provisions regarding restrictions about what you can do if you lose your private insurance due to job change…..and they aren’t pretty. This bill will eventually cause the end of private insurance and will prevent people from deciding not to have insurance at all. The devil is as always in the details.

Regarding health care reform: I don’t think any of us want a bureauocrat telling us what medications we are to be allowed to take. I personally am diabetic and many medications cause blood glucose to rise to extremely dangerouse levels. There is also the aspect of medications that affect different people in different ways. What one person can handle well may cause another person severe distress in the form of digestive upsets, etc. I also have kidney damage from the diabetes as well as having lost a kidney to cancer so my dr. has to consider the effect of medication on my kidney function. I also think that if they are going to use cost effectiveness to determine who is entitled to health care they might as well put a gun to my head. Since I am no longer employed and my kids are grown, what possible benefit is there to society to keep me alive.

Hey Alyson,

I just saw the segment on the Amanda Knox trial in Italy. First, let me say I have no idea if the woman is guilty or not. But there is something you should be aware of. The prosecutor (or ‘public minister’ in Italian parlance).

Go find the book “The Monster of Florence”. The prosecutor in that case is the same as in the Amanda Knox case. In November 2008 he went on trial for his part in the ‘Monster’ case on tons of charges, e.g., fabricating evidence, illegal wiretapping, etc. He constructed a mythical ’sex cult’ scenario in the ‘Monster’ case also.

His name is Guiliano Mignini.
—————————————-

“THE prosecutor investigating the murder of British student Meredith Kercher has been charged with abuse of power after he allegedly tapped the phones of journalists and police officers.

Giuliano Mignini was charged with Michele Giuttari, the former head of a unit involved in investigating a serial killer who terrorised Florence for 15 years.

The phone tapping allegations all relate to that inquiry and Mignini will continue to investigate the murder of Meredith, 20, who was found with her throat cut six months ago.

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4161/is_20080427/ai_n25371234/

———————–

The entire Italian justice system is corrupt. They may have the guilty party in Amanda Knox, but if so, it is purely by accident.

Good Morning everyone :-)
Concerning the Health Care Issue.
Here is where I see A major oversite that seems to be causing the wrong conversation, and that is resulting in a complete mis-conception of what America really wants.
Americans simply want to see some reform, NOT BIG GOVERNMENT TAKE OVER. Just some sensable reform. Washington needs to get it out of their heads that they are there to take over anything, or Run anything,. They are there to do a Job for us “the American Tax Payer ”
They are not there to RUN anything.
I hope we can get them to comprehind this Idea by 2010.

Comment by Rob-In-VABeach

Excellent point Rose, no one wants their healthcare to be governed by someone else. It should be managed by our own hand. And we all should have access to the same level of care. And by that I mean, “the best care”. Just as a president or congressman has the benefit of the best medicine, so should “Joe” the plumber, carpenter, accountant or hotel worker. Why not? Equal access to all.
No matter your age, race or religious affiliation’s (and the other’s I forgot)…

Ali, Russ Murphy again. Hope I,m not irritating you,but I guess my feelings of desperation is obvious. Since I began our organization after Mr. Becks 3/13 show this group has grown to over 60 active people attending 2 meetings a month and an e-mail list of some 400 people. I believe Mr Beck is correct that we need to make a continuous public awareness regarding what is happening in our government.

To make a long story short,I’am preparing to bring our small group from Delaware,un-announced,and walk in front of the Capitol, with signs and make a statement. We are going to do this,with-in the next few days,I would like to let Glenn Beck,he has been asking where are we,the 9-12 Delaware Patriots are coming !!! I humbly ask for his help. You know how people ask if you could talk to anyone special “who would it be”? For me it used to be John Wayne, then Leck Walinsa (speeled wrong). Now,I would give any thing to talk with Glenn Beck,to me he is the most Patriotic American, next to George Washington (whom I’ll have to wait to meet)

I thank you for any assistance you can give me. Please help (302)423-4711

But Washington wants to use that as an oportunity to Take over the Health Care.
There is a hugh difference in reform and Government take over.
It’s a common sense issue. Washington needs to grow some common sense, and quit trying to grow Government.
I fear that this Government needs to be Cleaned out, I don’t think that they will try to break the habbits that they have become so accustomed to.
They have acted like complete idiots since the beginning of this administration.

This health care scam is nothing but another power grab by this tyrannical administration. We are in for a world of hurt if they succeed in getting it passed. View the video that Dog posted. It’s an eye-opener. It is exactly what we will be facing if this bill gets passed.

And by the way, can someone explain to me why abortion is covered in this ridiculous bill? We will be facing health care rationing (this has already been admitted by some of the major players in this scam) but we are going to pay for abortion? There are very few medically necessary (danger to the mother) abortions. But folks will be waiting for government authorization to have a breast lump diagnosed? Or to have a birth-control prescription filled?

hey Betty,
I cannot agree more regarding that ‘other ‘Bush!
I cannot remember a Florida Gov. who was more
concerned about the people of Florida.
Jeb came to my husband’s ‘rescue’ several times!
both as an state employee and as a disabled veteran

he was an avid emailer and available to his
constituents always!

I can tell you that JEB was supposed to be the ‘first

Colleen…yes, and that was apparent fr the beginning. Our representatives were not on task at all, passing things they had not yet had an opportunity to read. As American’s, we were all stunned to the max, and continue to be stunned, that something like this could happen, but it has. Now we are in the business, as citizens, to “just say no”, and our opportunity to make a change is coming fast. Again…if the citizen is not paying attn, irreparable damage will be done to our constitutional foundation of a free representative republic. We continue to pray hard, and keep a close eye on our own representatives, as well as others, who have “flown the coop”, and decided socialism is “the road to success”. Yep…huge job ahead, and no time to dillydally around, for sure. lol The HUGE BOOT of government is about to pounce, and no one is going to be smilin’ if they are successful! lol Nope…

Very well said, Gini. The huge boot of government. How descriptive. And accurate.

Astronauts on the International Space Station are taking a break from spacewalking to perform some complex robotic maneuvers Sunday.

The seven astronauts of the space shuttle crew are on the third day of their docked mission at the station.

One major objective for the day is to use the shuttle robotic arm to grab a container of spare parts for the station out of the space shuttle’s cargo bay and temporarily stow it on the space station’s robotic arm. The carrier is set to be unpacked Monday during the mission’s second spacewalk.

Inside the container are a set of new batteries to power the station when it is not exposed to solar light, as well as a spare antenna and pump for systems onboard the station.

What is happening with the group who is holding the Islamic Fundamentalist meeting at the Hilton. Really can’t believe it is going on. God Forbid any recruiting or planning of terrorist activities come out of that session. Really, can’t the US government do something about this. Seriously. And Hilton, seriously. Freedom of Speech is one thing but sedition is something else. Hotels are getting bombed and innoncent people are getting killed and the Hilton is willing to let this event take place in their hotel. Sure, I know we’re in an economic whirlpool, but c’mon people, that’s no reason to allow a group with highly questionable intentions and motives to meet there.

The astronauts who first landed on the moon aren’t dwelling on their small lunar steps. Instead, two of them on Sunday urged mankind to take a giant leap to Mars.

In one of their few joint public appearances, the crew of Apollo 11 spoke on the eve of the 40th anniversary of man’s first landing on the moon, but didn’t get soggy with nostalgia. They instead spoke about the future and the more distant past.

Sunday night, a packed crowd at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum — 7,000 people applied in a lottery for 485 seats — didn’t get the intimate details of the Eagle’s landing on the moon with little fuel left, or what the moon looked like, or what it felt like to be there.

Alisyn, please talk about how the Republicans would like to resolve the healthcare issue! I have NEVER heard anything about their position except that they want to KILL the bill and do nothing. If that’s not true, I wish I could hear SOMEONE talk about their solution.

Can you?

Comment by Liz

How do they expect to win back any seats next year without a plan? They are against stimulus and bailouts, without which we would be plunged into a depression that would last for 10 years or more, they want to leave healthcare alone and watch the number of uninsured skyrocket and healthcare costs skyrocket out of control, etc. etc. etc……no solution! I can’t vote any of them back in until I hear some kind of plan.

Where was the outrage in the last admin. when the spending got out of control? (Oh, yeah, that’s right….all the military spending was left out of the budget, as if it didn’t exist…..oops)

Hi ME, Bruce, Sterling, Sal:

I just got back from my college roommate reunion. They were all orgasmic over Obama last fall but this year they were very subdued and the only thing they said was “At least he is trying”. No cheerleading, no celebration. My room mate from Alaska LOVES LOVES LOVES Sarah Palin. When some of the other girls asked her to dish the dirt on her, she got mad and said all the stuff in the media are lies and that Sarah is very smart and has done a great job up there. This gal is also a lib. Yay! The truth is told!

Comment by BruceWV

Hi Sterling missed you yesterday, Thanks Me, the antibiotics are working fever’s about gone. They moved treatment to next Mon.it made her kinda mad cause she’s a HUGE hi school football fan and figured out dates for treatments, practice games, and season games and all was good now she has to do it again.

Comment by carolynro

Oh, and by the way…My friend from Alaska has a master’ s degree and is a published author!

Comment by Sterling

Very good to hear, Carolyn!! Seems the bloom is falling off the rose….. and shining upon another?

Comment by carolynro

Yes, it is. I was listening to my back log of Rush pod casts and I heard a playback of some chick in the media trying to make it sound like everyone’s 401 K-s are coming back. It all sounded very familiar as if someone here was regurgitating almost verbatim what this Obama cabinet member was saying on a television program that Rush played. Anyone looked at their investments lately?

Comment by BruceWV

Comment by carolynro

It is always good to have the opportunity to spread the news person to person and to bust some of the media myths about conservatives. One of my lib friends actually listened to my take on the health care debacle and told me she agreed with some of my ideas. How refreshing…I am the only business owner in the group and they have no clue about how all of these plans will affect those of us who are not public employees. No offense to public employees. It is just a point of view that is different from the culture that they have lived in for decades- not right or wrong- just different. It is always easy to want things to be fair when spending other people’s money. It is quite different hearing from someone (me) who has nearly gone broke paying for our own benefits is all.

By Daniel Greenfield Thursday, June 11, 2009: In the sixth month of his presidency, Obama has turned an economic downturn into an economic disaster, taking over and trashing entire companies, and driving the nation deep into deficit spending expected to pass 10 trillion dollars.
Abroad, Obama seems to have no other mode except to continue on with his endless campaign, confusing speechmaking with diplomacy. It is natural enough that Obama, who built his entire campaign on high profile public speeches reported on by an adoring press, understands how to do nothing else but that.
Ego driven photo op appearances and clueless treatment of foreign dignitaries…….

Just like up on the Hill if don’t agree with his (O/B) way’s you can kiss your career good-Bye! We the people have to keep getting this out there & stand up for ourselves again in this country! During the election the people were so hungry for change that they had blinders on. I really don’t believe that they knew that they were in fact voting for someone who was going to completely change the very nature of what this Great Country & it’s people’s rights! Like history shows us It can only continue only if the general John Q public allows it to keep happening. While my voice my not be that loud I can & will do my part & send that video to everyone I know! As I do live in MI and am ashamed of this video I can also tell you that I have not seen it on the news either! Makes you wonder! White House officials spent Sunday defending Obama’s health care proposals and stressing that Congress has not yet written the final draft of legislation that would dramatically reshape how Americans receive health care. Instead, they said, Republicans — and even some Democrats — should wait until a final bill takes form.
Getting it done by August, though, appeared to be pushed back. Administration officials said they still have a goal for the Senate and the House to pass separate bills before an August recess, leaving reconciliation of their differences for September or later. But they slid away from a once-firm do-it-this-summer demand.

“We think we can make that. We’re working towards that,” White House budget director Peter Orszag said. “And we have to remember, there are some who are advocating the delay simply because they don’t have anything to put on the table. … There are those who are advocating delay just as a desperation move to try to kill this.”

BILL KILLERS….too bad it won’t work anymore! LOL

ECONOMIC REPORT
Jul 20, 2009, 11:59 a.m. EST

Leading indicators rise 0.7% in June
3rd straight gain points to 2nd half recovery

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The U.S. index of leading economic indicators rose 0.7% in June, the third straight monthly gain, the Conference Board said Monday, signaling that a recovery is likely in the second half of the year.

Over the past six months, the index has improved at a 4.1% annual rate, up sharply from a negative 6.2% rate in the prior six months. This is the fastest pace since the first quarter of 2006.

The trend is consistent with a slow recovery this autumn, according to Ken Goldstein, an economist at the Conference Board.

“The unqualified jump in the index holds out hope that the upturn is not far away,” said Joel Naroff, president of Naroff Economic Advisors.

The gain in the index was in line with estimates of Wall Street economists, according to a survey conducted by MarketWatch.

Seven of the ten indicators increased in June. The positive contributors – beginning with the largest positive contributor – were interest rate spread, building permits, stock prices, weekly initial claims, average weekly

Oops, the last paragraph was cut off. Here it is…..even Wall St. likes what’s going on with the economy now!

Seven of the ten indicators increased in June. The positive contributors – beginning with the largest positive contributor – were interest rate spread, building permits, stock prices, weekly initial claims, average weekly manufacturing hours, index of supplier deliveries, and manufacturers’ new orders for consumer goods and materials.

The Economy Crisis was all a fabricated hoax and just a power grab., for political funds to extend This Administration into the future. Too bad that All Americans are not as dumb as you sheep.
Because 2010 will get us started back on track.
There never was a crises, there was only a growing problem that would have been solved by Bushs Tax cuts plan That the Democrats blocked.
Obama is totally to blame, and history will show that .
Waste of time telling you anything. You will never get it, that it was the democratic congress that set the stage for all of this, including Obamas election.
You just don’t have a clue, do you …..LOL !

Oh boy, Mac….that sure was quite a conspiracy wasn’t it? Wow! (or a delusion?) Can you back that up with “links” please! If you could do that, I would do some extensive DD on it. Where was this grand scheme hatched? In Kenya? Indonesia? Hawaii? Where? Was his mother in on it from the day of conception? (like Rosemary’s baby?) Give me some details!

Comment by Liz

While Obama was campaigning last year, was he looting my IRA at the same time? Wow! That is truly amazing. When all the banks started to fail, starting with Bear Stearns in March of 2008, was it Obama’s fault? What about Lehman Bros.? Was he behind the AIG scandal as well? It took about 2 years total for the economy to be completely flushed down the toilet, and even John McCain didn’t see it coming! He told us the economy was in great shape! Wow again! Obama was the only one who knew all along…..and he must have known that he was the man to do the job of fixing it!!! Is that what you’re saying Max???

(I’m still trying to figure this one out….anyone else out there have any clue?)

Comment by Liz

I’m pretty sure that all those banks I mentioned really did go down….I don’t think that could have been fabricated since they no longer exist. And since those went down, I think there have been a total of 24 or 25 banks that have failed. Some were bailed out and/or merged with others. I’m really having a hard time believing all that was fabricated Mac. Tax cuts wouldn’t have saved them, although that’s pretty wishful thinking! LOL Did GM and Chrysler just fake all their financial problems as well? Wow, I am just awed by it all.

Suspended NFL star Michael Vick ended his federal dogfighting sentence Monday, freeing him to lobby for a return to the field.

Vick’s attorney Lawrence Woodward told The Associated Press outside Vick’s suburban Virginia home that the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback had been released from federal custody as scheduled. That means Vick no longer has to wear the electronic monitor he’s had while under home confinement for the last two months of his 23-month sentence.

Shortly before Woodward came out of the house, two men in a government car with a U.S. Probation Services folder on the dashboard paid a brief visit to the home. They carried a large case similar to the one that Vick’s ankle monitor was delivered in when he started home confinement. The men declined to identify themselves or speak to waiting reporters.

Anyhow, your question was, ” What do they hope to accomplish besides making everyone in the room say the Pledge of Allegience? “……… You see, thats where you messed up, or well, you revealed yourself ! You see a Patriot , ( which could be a Liberal or a conservative ), would have defended Her Party, A Patriot would have came back at me with : ” Hey, we Democrats know the Pledge of Allegience.” Or something like a Joe Biden quote ! Anyways You did not defend your patiotism, when given the challenge ! Instead… YOU Scoffed at those people that stood together as Patriots, and recited the Pledge of Allegience. Yeah LIZ ………. a lot you know ?
OH BTW, I’m in a good mood tonight. So I was think’n , if you want to quit calling me names and talk nice, well, I’ll give you a shot, I’m just say’in …..

Ok Liz, The pledge of Allegience, is something that Paitriotic Americans feel close to. Your a Progressive,,, right ? So no one expects you to be Paitriotic. You know what Liz, it’s not your fault.
It’s not your fault that you don’t remember what it’s like to be in the 3rd grade and …….
Say the Pledge of Allegience, followed by ” The Lords Prayer ” and then listen to the speaker above the door, anouncements from the office. And to be living in a country where you could just get on your bicycle and ride it home after school. ” And Not Be Afraid “.
I’ll tell you what, I’m in a good mood tonight, so, If you will quit calling me names and try to talk nice, well, I give You a shoot, OK , LIZ ?

Yahoo Inc. eked out a slightly higher profit in the second quarter as its new, no-nonsense chief executive cut enough expenses to shake off the Internet company’s sharpest drop in ad revenue since the dot-com bust.

The worsening ad slump overshadowed Yahoo’s first quarterly earnings increase since the start of 2008, causing the company’s shares to fall more than 2 percent after the results were released Tuesday.

Yahoo also said it will spend at least $75 million promoting its brand, hiring more engineers and improving some of its services during the third quarter. On top of that, the Sunnyvale-based company expects to surrender about $75 million in revenue by reducing the volume of ads that management has identified as being too obnoxious.
