Alisyn in the Greenroom

Sunday Morning

OK, I’m a little late this morning — always a rough start after a holiday that involves fireworks…

Anyway, more on Sarah Palin’s surprise resignation.  What do you think is her motivation?  She mentioned “a higher calling.”  How do you interpret that?

What will Governor Mark Sanford do tomorrow:  resign or stay in office?   What should he do?

Who do you think will win our hotdog eating contest at the end of the show — Clayton or Dave?

What do you think the surprise is under the sheet for Clayton?

Hi Ali,

I am a little torn about Palin quitting. I do beleive you should see the game all the way through. On the other hand, I do believe politicians should have to resign their office to campaign for another position. Obama claimed experience as a US Senator but really had what 6 months before his campaign kicked in. You can’t say he, Biden, McCaine, or even Palin were doing the jobs they were elected for.

I’m witholding judgement until some more facts are evident.

Its great seeing you up and at them. I think I need a rest after the hoola hoop segment.

Ed

Being a lifelong resident of SC I think Mark Sanford should resign. If he had kept his mouth shut after his initial statement it would not be as bad, but he wouldn’t keep quiet about his “soulmate”. He is an embarassment to his wife, children, and state. I can not stand to look at him now.

Comment by Liz K

Good morning everyone!
Interesting….I got up just in time to see your trophy. I think, I actually saw you make the trophy winning hotdog because I remember it invoked the same response from everyone on the set then as now. And that’s all I have to say on that subject.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth.

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Yes, that was a proud day in 2006 when i “won” the trophy.

Good morning Ali and all. I’m pretty sure I actually saw you make the trophy winning hotdog because I remember the reaction then was about the same as this morning!
Hope you all had a wonderful Fourth.

MoDo writing that Sarah has a personality disorder? Puhleeezeee. Pot meet kettle. Kettle meet pot. She’s pathetic.

The way her family and person have been maligned is a crime. She’ll come back and raise money for GOP candidates and work behind the scenes to take this country back. I doubt she’ll be president but she’ll work like hell to restore it and may just pave the way for another woman down the road. The derision and contempt that people feel for this woman just baffles me.

Also, if Palin were ugly, no one would care what she does.

Comment by BruceWV

Good morning Fox and Friends, I agree Ed I would rather know instead of guessing. As far as Sanford goes it’s all abuot trust. I’m a man of principles and I can’t trust him any more

Comment by Retro

I think Sarah had to do what she did due to the unprecendented level of frivolous lawsuits and ethics violations being filed designed to harrass and waste her time and prevent her from doing her job. She did the right thing and now is free to pursue the next step. GOOD for her. Sanford should resign and shut up. He is embarrassing himself and everybody else.

The hot dog trophy is hysterical!! Aly, you are a hoot! Love the show. We wake up to Fox and Friends. Every morning. hubby is still snoozing. He worked his usual 14 hour day yesterday.

Small business not only is not getting the stimulus money, but the government policies are causing all of us to cut back and certainly not hire more. They’re nuts and have no clue about small business, nor do they care.

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Thanks for watching everyday Retro!

Comment by RoseAnne Shaw

Good morning Aly & all.

I think Sanford should resign, our leaders should be above reproach morally, though that is a rare situation since the days of “but I didn’t inhale” and “I did not have sex with that woman” Clinton. I know accusations were made against John Kennedy also but it was only later after he was dead as I remember it. Since that time, our society seems to have no moral compass and anything goes seems to be the rule.

I still think Sarah will continue to be maligned by the MSM but she is smart and strong so we will continue to hear from and about her.

I tried to wish you good morning earlier, but it didn’t go through so will try again. Hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth.
I won’t speculate on Sarah Palin’s motives for her actions. I’ll wait and see what she actually does…..novel approach I know.
I have no sympathy for a politician who can’t keep his pants zipped. He should quit talking and go away!

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Wait and see? Who has time for that??

Comment by olinl

Good Morning from Flyover.

As I said yesterday, opinions are like noses, everyone has one. Only Sarah knows why Sarah really stepped down, and only Sarah knows what her future will be in politics, if at all.

Sanford is a pig who cannot even be honest with himself. I doubt that he can be effective as governor. I think he should fade rapidly into the night.

Comment by Retro

Betty, thet’s for sure! The best man for the job is a woman in both their cases! That hot dog trophy is a total hoot, Aly! I thought I would fall out laughing when the wether guy pointed it at my old home town, San Antonio! boy, 103. And will e 101 here today. God bless air conditioning, which we didn’t used to have in the olden days.

Your right Retro, I never thought it really mattered who got electsd because the country would take care of itself. Boy was I wrong.

Comment by Mike F

Good morning Ali,
I hope she didn’t resign due to all of the MSM garbage. That will be seen as a sign of weakness if she pursues higher office. I have a couple of thoughts, perhaps run for President under a 3rd party, entering the private sector, work for the RNC campaigning for Republicans in the lower 48 during the mid-term elections. Whatever she does, I do hope it’s for the best. I really like her and her agenda!

Comment by Salvatore

Good Morning Alisyn and everyone
I f you listen to her speech she said it was hard to do her job when she had to keep defending herself on allegations of false ethics complaints and now 1/2 million in debt,
and to use the Governors office to do so wasnt fair to the people of Alaska,
she said its time to pass the ball so that the team can win,
I say she shouldnt resign… but Sarah Palin doesnt want to use taxpayer money to defend herself,
she has a book deal coming to help pay her debt and then maybe start her campaign for the Presidency or help with others for the Presidency.

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

That’s great, Fred. So glad you saw your son! Now, here’s the bad news…i don’t know how you can get a dub. We don’t use videotape anymore. There may be a service that still tapes our show but i don’t know of one.

Sarah is faking out the harrassers by refusing to be distracted and cost her state money and is moving onward and upward. I think she is now going to become a more national presence and will go either for Senator or President.

Good morning Ms Alisyn,

Fireworks, how nice. I hope the kids enjoyed it. And you know what they say, Better late than never. ;)

I think the idle speculation over motives will continue to haunt Ms Palin. Time is the only source of answers along with her actions. I believe that she has plans but isn’t going to expose them and give the media yet another reason to attack her.

Well said, Sal. I keep wondering if some of the people speculating about Governor Palin actually LISTENED to what she said.

I am so sick of people talking down about Sarah Palin. Would you truly think the obvious, she has morals. This country is going down the drain and all we can talk about are things that don’t really matter. I think she is like the rest of us, for the first time in my adult life I am afraid for this country.

Comment by Salvatore

Thanks Liz K.. and Good morning.

Comment by Retro

I’ve owned a small business for 39 years and the worst period in business we had was the Carter years. This is Carter squared. All small businesses are cutting back. It’s going to be worse than it was then and we had double digit unemployment and somewhere around 20% interest rates. You really think people are going to hire over 25 people when the new health care bill penalizes you and makes you pay insurance for all employees over that number? Get real. That is just one of the ridiculous proposals. The other stuff is horrible, too. Cap and Trade, etc.

Comment by BruceWV

I to fear the future Georgia, We still need at least 3 years to change things by vote. I hope we can hang in there.

Don’t know much about Ms. Bachmann except the left hates her, which makes her AOK in my book :-D

Sanford is an embarrassment all the way around and he should resign. He wasn’t any kind of presidential frontrunner. No one even knew who he was until he decided he wanted to tango the night away in moonlit Buenos Aires with his fabulous luh-vuh.

I think Sanford should resign for literally abandoning his state with not even the Lt. Governor aware of his whereabouts.

Comment by Georgia

Bruce, I think our country will probably be destroyed in three years. I was at a tea party yesterday and heard some very inspiring speeches. We are concentrating on 2010 and hope to change the balance in the white house so we can get some people in that really care about what “We the people” think. I am with Sarah I don’t really care what they call themselves as long as they truly care about our country and keeping the freedoms that we have.

Both are true! I did go to bed before the fireworks started but that doesn’t mean i can sleep through them…

Comment by RoseAnne Shaw

Most of us are very afraid that the current administration is leading this country down the tubes. I truly don’t think anyone in the government reads the bills that they support and pass. So anyone can slip any diabolical legislation in and get it passed. There is no longer any belief in the adage that you should never sign anything which you haven’t read.

The rash of infidelity by people in leadership positions makes one wonder if anyone can be trusted. It is also sending a message to young people about how much one should value their marriage/partnership and fight to keep it strong and enduring.

Comment by Retro

Sanford should resign and Sarah scares the liberals and media to death. They can’t control her- she does what is right and not what they think is “popular.” That’s why she resonates so much with real people.

Retro, Sarah also scares the Republican establishment and elitist women who think that no one without a fancy college education can be intelligent. They simply can’t comprehend anyone not willing to “play the game.”

Comment by kfollis

MSM is playing the BS card to discredit any person who won’t play their game. Controversy and ridicule are the highlights of their nonsense. They can make up lies and wait for the response. Olberman is the worst liar on the TV to date. Good morning you crazy kids~ I think Sarah’s reason has to do with something about being attacked every time she turns around. And it’s not only her. The awful things being said about her children. I don’t know how she got this far to tell you the truth. I just wish her and her family the best of luck no matter the reason or what she decides to do in the future.
As for Sanford….what can you say about a man who has no respect for his wife or sons? Or to the people who voted him into office. Leaving without telling ANYONE where he could be reached.

Ed

sorry for misspellings!

Comment by Laura P.

I think Sarah Palin was in a no-win situation, and in that regard “forced out”. I will take her at her word. If she stayed as Governor, she would not be able to leave Alaska for other than strictly Alaska duties, without getting sued. I think her ambitions necessitated the freedom to travel whenever and wherever. So, her choice was to either forego her ambitions and stay as Gov., or risk the headaches and possible bankruptcy of constant lawsuits. (Remember, she is not a rich woman and does not have the backing of someone with money, like George Soros.) I believe she was unwilling to be hamstrung as governor and, more importantly, put her family through all of this.

Gov Sanford has talked his way into needing to resign. He should have kept his mouth shut and let MJ completely take over the news….

Sarah Palin- I believe she did the right thing by stepping down. She looked at what the media is doing to her family and her to her state and she felt that was the only right thing to do. She will run in 2012, and I do believe she will be the first “woman” president. But if you read her speech over, I bleieve she was saying that it is alright for a man to quit his position in government (senator Barack Obama) but she will be looked down on for resigning early. She knows that things will never be equal when looking at her and Obama. Sarah and her family are so far in debt over all of these accusations that the media has risen. Sarah will go out and do speeches and make money to pay off her debt and raise money for one of the biggest campaigns that our country will have ever seen. Sarah will run in 2012 and she will beat Obama. Srah will turn this country around and bring it back to the great country she always was.

Sanford-He has disgraced the GOP and needs to step down now. He should’ve stepped down the day he rambled on and called his mistress his “soul mate”. How does one do that to his family on national TV?

Hotdog eating contest- Clayton will win.

Under the sheet is the Abraham Lincoln cheese statue.

Good morning Ali and crew…Hope you enjoyed your holiday yesterday. Ali your tardiness is excused! It happens.
Well, where to start… The fireworks here in VA Beach were terriffic! Mt Trashmore, as usual was booming! So I hear anyway. Wife and I went to the beach and met some friends, where we had dinner, and watched the fireworks on the beach! Wow, they were fantastic! However, due to the economy, they certainly did seem a bit shorter in duration compared to past shows. Better than no fireworks I must say! I’ll know the economy is turned around when the fireworks shows take longer than 15 minutes!
Quick opions – Sandford should step down, Palin did, Drop the big one on NK, and Michael Jackson was always the king of pop for my family, sad that he is being revered now that he is dead. Where was all the media reports about what a wonderful father he is, while he walked the earth? We all should have embraced his talent with more kindness whlie he was alive. Don’t think we will be privledged to have such a wonderful talent again in our lifetime…RIP Michael.
Marion Barry back in the news? One word comes to mind… Smooth Criminal.

So, behind the curtain is a cool-be (colby or cheddar) Abraham Lincoln. Bon apetite!

Have a great day!

Why is no one acknowledging that Michael had Lupus which may explain why he took so many pain pills and pills to help him sleep? Pain and insomnia are serious symptoms of Lupus and stress can make it worse. Getting good sleep helps in lessoning the symptoms which may be why Michael was using the Deprivan and other drugs to help him feel well enough to be able to get through the rehearsals. His Lupus may have progressively gotten worse leading to Michael’s drastic measures in using the Deprivan. Why he chose not to speak about having Lupus is anyone’s guess. As with any debilitating disease, it is sad that dealing with the pain and insomnia sometimes leads to such drastic measures of coping. The rehearsal video is a testament to Michael’s strength and stamina considering the Lupus and potent medications he felt he had to resort to in order to continue his unique talent.

Frivolous law suits tied up her time and finances, state business was suffering, she did what most would not have the integrity to do…step down, roll up her sleeves, take the gloves off.Nothing strikes more fear to our Liberal enemies (those who put ideals ahead of country) than the truth. Pre Obama needed shovels to clean up DC…now they’ll need a fleet of BobCats.

The thing with the redoubtable Ms Sarah might be no more profound nor secret than that she is fed up with her family members being attacked by a merciless press and disreputable politicos. Too much about Trigg, and her motivations and actions about him, might itself and alone have suggested to her that enough is enough. There comes a point in personal and family attacks that might cause one to retreat from the public field and go in another direction. Vicious attacks like these, and those on Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas, etc., are much of the reason that we generally get only lower tier sorts going into public service.

Alisyn,

I have a question for you guys this morning (Sunday). With there being 17,000+ tickets being given out for the M. Jackson memorial at Staples, what is to keep some people from scalping/selling these tickets outside Staples just like a football game, all in the name of making a buck off of Jacksons death. Sad but I bet it happens.

Thank You !!

Doug

Is everyone on this blog extremist? Raise your hands please! I need a good count. When referring to liberals as “enemies”, that’s quite extremist. That’s saying you flat out refuse to work with them. At least it’s not that bad in Washington. McCain and Biden are still friends.

Who here thinks all liberals are your enemies, besides Judyann?

Good Morning Alisyn,

About Clayton’s surprise behind the curtain, it’s the cheese sculpture of Abraham Lincoln that was on display yesterday at the Lincoln Memorial. Now, Clayton can have warm cheddar cheese to go with his frozen potatoes.

Bon apetite!

Have a great day!

Keith Ablow rocks. How dare this “clinical psychiatrist” say that Mrs. Sanfords motives are” saving her husbands job”?
Years ago my sister was having difficulty in her marriage, and being the supportive sister , I supported her decision to end her marriage. Sadly, I couldn’t foresee the devastating damage to her kids. Her husband was a jerk, and these many years later, she is well rid of him. But I believe her kids were irreparably harmed . It changed the entire course of their lives.

I think there’s much more to the Palin story, but we may never know what it is. If there is no more to it than she says, then she’s much too thin-skinned to be in politics anyway.

The families always suffer more than the elected person. The public is unmerciful when they think they can influence an elected person by going through family members. It is a disgrace. We rarey have competative school board or city commission or country commission races here.

John Coale…a Democratic trial lawyer… as you already know…. started up the “Alaska Fund Trust” which is paying for Palin’s legal bills. I believe there is an ethics probe about it. John Coale is Greta Van Susteren’s husband.

Comment by Gini

Excellent post Cap, and I think that must have been everyone’s first comment, when the news came across she was stepping down. Enough already!!! But, hopefully, she isn’t done at all, and we will see more of her liberating message. Regardless, I think stepping down was a responsible thing to do, and not quitting at all. lol

Comment by capmotion

Liz, I have never really understood what “liberal” and “conservative” really mean. The Framers were not focused on those supposed poles, but rather on “tyranny” vs. “anarchy,” and most of those who seemingly fall within both “liberal” and “conservative” camps [Teddy Kennedy of the former and Ronald Reagan of the latter] both function at the tyranny end of the Framers’ scale – they are both Statists. I know some so-called “conservatives” think they are descendants of the Framers’ views, but very, very few are. Indeed, Ron Paul is the closest of modern politicians to the Framers, and many laughed or scoffed at him.

Comment by Jillian

Wow, what has this country come to ? I think that people like Down and Letterman are jealous of Palin and her success. I am really surprised that the entities who Dowd and Letterman work for allow them to show their lack of character in the press and on national television. I think that she needs to sue some of these people for defamation of character, something that Dowd and Letterman do not have at this point in time in their careers. Dowd has the audacity to call herself a “journalist” and get away with her rants in the press. Letterman showing his perverse tendencies on national television by commenting on Palin’s children and then giving a lame excuse claiming he was “sorry”. I don’t think so ! What Dowd and Letterman did was in poor taste and it is a shame they are gettiing away with it. Buth then again our president is not setting a great example because he makes rude and disrespecful comments on national television about people who have opinions that are different than his.

Both Dowd and Letterman should be fired for their misuse of their professions and the people who are in charge of these two ought to have the guts to fire them. Just like Don Imus got fired for his rude and disrespectful comments. When you use your professions as a means to defamate someone’s character then it is time to retire. The bitterness from Dowd and Letterman makes you wonder how they got their jobs in the first place with so little character and personality.

Liberal = progressive; Conservative = regressive! At least that’s the way it is at this point in time.

That’s what happens when the left is too far left and the right is too far right Cap. I think the left has a better balance right now tho. The right is pitiful and I hope that will change.

The conservatives would have us in a deep recession or depression, but luckily we kicked them out, and they are still complaining. They still want to strip us of some of our rights, but the left will never let that happen.

Good Morning, chas, Liz K, Frank C, Sal, gini; hope you all had great 4th. The one downer for me is that the entertainment hole of the annual Boston Pops Fireworks show is shrinking; I might have to go to Boston to see it in person next year. But we had great fireworks here, and eats, and patriotism, and good cheer – and one of the best rendtitions of the Star Spangled Banner ever. And the Marines were here to present the colors – and to share their tanks and APCs with the kids [of all ages]. Good times.

I was very disappointed in the Boston Pops coverage too….coming in at the end of the 1812 Overture???? They did the same thing last year.

Comment by capmotion

But, Liz, even labels of “left” and “right” are meaningless in the Framers’ world [which is the only one of which I am concerned], because both of those are merely flare-outs on the respective sides of the Statism/tyranny end of the relevant spectrum between tyranny and anarchy – I, and the Framers, try to find an acceptable balance that is much farther toward [but not at!] the anarchy end, which is where liberty resides.

Liz, read Liberty and Tyranny and then get back to us when you can discuss this stuff intelligently with some background. Right now it is kind of a waste of time to discuss it with you. You just don’t have the education but there is a lot out there which can help you acquire it. If you don’t choose to avail yourself of it it’s like a group of adults trying to have a political discussion with a 6 year old, frankly.

Comment by capmotion

Yeah, Liz K; I don’t know what that’s all about. They used to play the whole 1812, which, with the Army cannons shooting across the Charles, is one of the great musical experiences of all time, yet it was shaved back last year, and even more last night – most disappointing. They should go back to the 2 1/2 hour complete show.

Call me naive, but I believe that Sarah Palin is simply doing what she feels is right . Right for her family, right for her state, right for her country. I said it yesterday, I’ll say it again, just because she doesn’t get credit for the points,i.e. holds the post as leader, doesn’t mean she can’t effect change for the better, can’t contribute to the win.

It is amazing that people idolize a man who was self-destructive and the final result, dead at 50 ! Yes, he was talented, but to self-destruct by choice like he did is a tragedy. He did not take care of himself mentally or physically. He always looked weak, especially on the video when he was walking in a suit coat and pajamas to a court hearing. I am sorry, he was not healthy emotionally or physically and he did not seek help that would help him lead a healthy lifestyle so he could watch his 3 children grow up. Michael made bad decisions throughout his young life and they caught up with him in the end. Who killed Michael Jackson ? HIMSELF !

He had so much plastic surgery which possibly led to his addiction to a drug that is an anesthetic to get sleep. If you need an anesthetic to help you sleep, you are in desparate need of psychology help. How about the skin bleaching question and the fact that his nose was so tiny you could barely see it which possibly led to breathing problems. Not to mention the bad example he was setting for his young children by taking all of the prescription drugs. It would be better to idolize people who make better decisions concerning their life. His family life growing up is irrelevant. He abused his body his entire adult life and now he is dead. Instead of getting Michael help, each family member and friend just stood by and watched him self-destruct. Everyone who thinks he looked good on June 24th at rehearsal is blind.

Gini, it was fun, but the costume is very hot. I think that is why they asked me; I was the only sucker among the oldfart ladies who would do it, LOL! Also the costume is small and I am a runt. Also Gov. Sara Palin is a good example of how to run a personal life and a political life. God Bless her and her family.

Comment by Mary

Retro, the tea parties as you well know are not about Dems/Republicans, Black/White issues. They are about all Americans that are fed up with paying higher taxes and watching government intruding into every aspect of our lives.

No coverage on the tea parties, is anyone surprised? I think not.

As government interferes more and more with the taxpayers, you will see more tea parties.

By the way, did anyone see the “one” yesterday? I know I didn’t. Wouldn’t ya think he would want to say something about Independence Day. Maybe I missed it, but I saw nothing but coverage about MJ.

The race card is often used, when one has nothing intelligent to say, the object of course, to inflame the conversation, and the necessity to defend, of course. This isn’t abt color however…it’s abt the Constitution, and so every citizen would be concerned, regardless of their position politically or their color…that’s why we see all those who are educated, on board w/the tea party events, with no ulterior message except the Constitution, and the liberty it gives to us all. :)

Can NOT agree with Michael Reagan’s assessment…calling Newt the only one to lead the Republicans, but accusing Sarah Palin of giving in??? Wasn’t it Newt who gave up Speaker of the House along with his 11th term election?????? Newt bailed (chickened out), and I’m still having a hard time believing he wouldn’t bail on the people who voted him in, if pressured again…and he wasn’t HALF as bashed by the media as Sarah Palin was/is. (Michael Reagan must have forgotten about that). I would love to see the blog writers, media outlets, etc. being sued (just like the National Enquirer has been) for ANY defamation of character towards Palin and her family…I hope her and her lawyer follow through.

Also agree with most posters…ENOUGH OF MJ…Let the man REST IN PEACE!

Cap…wouldn’t they be searching for drugs, etc, to see if there would be more to this story? McNair…an explanation for his apparent suicide. IF that’s what happened. My hubby thinks it was a robbery! lol But, I guess we will have to wait and see what the police decide. lol A sad sad story, for sure, and I do feel so bad for his fam, again…they will feel the brunt of it all. lol :)

Comment by capmotion

PNW, be nice. Michael Reagan’s only relevance in any debate is his last name – he hasn’t much of a clue about anything, and no time should be spent analyzing his “analysis.”

Juan Williams is on all the time. There are numerous other black people on Fox all the time. I don’t particularly notice or care what anybody’s race is, though. I am more interested in what they might have to say, but then I am not racist in judging people and that is not one of my criteria for viewing choices.

Gini, if it was suicide, I doubt that he is the one who committed it. He has several gunshot wounds; she had only one.

Comment by capmotion

Kristen, I am sensing that the birth “certificate” is really the alternative birth proof decree that one can obtain by court action for a home birth baby whose birth was not attended by certifying people. They result from declarations and affidavits of people who witnessed the matter, so one can “prove” virtually anything with those sorts of things. I have no personal thoughts of the matter, although the relative who claims to have attended his live birth in Kenya certainly sounds convincing. One day the truth will accidentally emerge, and I suspect it will be that he was born in Kenya.

Capmotion,
Thanks’ for responding. We thought you might ignore us. If we might press you further: some in the group state his mother was an American citizen, regardless as to where he was born, he would be an American citizen. How do we combat that? We have no pre-law people here, can you tell?

Comment by marine1967

How do you combat what Kristen?

Comment by capmotion

Kristen, the rules regarding children of citizens is not so clear, and it has changed many times over the years, so one would have to review the law as of the time of the birth to come close to an answer. Now, a child born to an American citizen mom would be an American citizen if the mom lived in the US for 5 years before the birth, and if 2 of the five were after the mom was 14 years old; that has only been the rule for less than 25 years – one would have to research the law at the time of Obama’s birth to figure your question out, but it is not as simplistic as some think.

Cap,
my question would have to be concerning all of the Constitutional laws that Obama is breaking.
i.e. Firing a private interprize executive, Appointing all of his Czars into Governing positions, no elections by the American people. Slamming huge bills containing, many laws being changed without feeling any need for the American tax payng and voting citizens to have any voice or knowledge of their content. Not to mention the Republican party not being allowed to see the contents.
And the list goes on. I don’t understand how these things can be done in any legal form.

Am I the only person that is outraged by all of this?

Comment by chas

I believe that the question of Obama’s citizenship comes from not only his birth place but his obtaining school aid for foreign nationals.

The US, if memory serves, does not have dual citizenship. Now depending on the laws of the Country he claimed to be a citizen of, he might have had to renounce his US citizenship.

This differs from, say England, who always maintains you as a subject of the Crown no matter what you say. In other words you are always English, even if a legal citizen of America.

So actually it has more than one edge of the sword so to speak.

Cap, feel free to correct any error here. It’s not my area of expertise.

A better question is, can he be prosecuted if it is found he actually lied abt it all? and does anything he signed stand? lol :) One would think not. lol

My point, exactly, Gini, and thank you for bringing it up. I am very interested in cap’s and chas’ insight on this subject. I have wondered as well, about the rules of citizenship, and it is very interesting to hear it from an attorney’s perspective. However, as I was reading all of that, I thought to myself, this might not be necessary at all if the man would simply release the information. For goodness sake, if it’s all legitimate, then there should be no reason to hide it. To hide it only adds to the fervor of the whole thing.

And to think there is a legitimate question to his citizenship is very frightening considering the Constitutional crisis it would create if he is not a citizen. And I believe that you are correct, nothing he has signed would be legal, and in fact, he and his conspirators would all be held liable for fraud. I’m not sure if it constitutes treason, but at the very least, fraud. This matter is so much bigger than Watergate and anything that their hated GWB could be accused of. And I’m afraid that that probably answers the question about why no one is pursuing this matter. Since all the money is currently in his own corner, there’s not enough to support those who are questioning the matter.

Kristen and Madison, welcome! You ask interesting and timely questions. I’m so relieved to hear that the young people of this wonderful country are listening and discerning and asking questions of their leadership.

I fear the possible crisis we will face if it is indeed determined that our president is not a legal citizen as defined by the laws of our land, including the guidelines of citizenship at the time of his birth. I submit that the most troubling aspect of this entire matter is his refusal to produce the doc u mentation that would answer the questions once and for all. It it’s not that big a deal, then why is he making it such a big deal?

Ms. Madison,

The ramification of the this situation, should the allegations prove true, are staggering.

The concern over a foreigner taking office was of paramount importance to the Founders. Of course, in the years that followed, the concerned waned. It would seem that once again their fears and concerns come to fruition because we, as a Nation, have ignored their guidance.

“Whenever a man has cast a longing eye on offices, a rottenness begins in his conduct.” Th. Jefferson

Good luck with your studies.

Two monorail trains crashed early Sunday morning in the Magic Kingdom section of Walt Disney World, killing one train’s operator, emergency officials said.

The transit system, which shuttles thousands of visitors around the sprawling resort each day, was shut down while authorities investigated the holiday weekend wreck.

The monorail operator died at the scene of the crash, which happened around 2 a.m., said Bo Jones, deputy chief for Reedy Creek Fire Department. The other train operator was uninjured, but was taken to a hospital because he was emotionally shaken. Jones said five park guests were treated at the scene, though the Orange County Sheriff’s office said six were treated.

“ The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”

Comment by chas

Cap informs me that there is indeed dual citizenship in the US. My error.

However, the Constitution does not address a dual citizenship as in being eligible for the Presidency. Mostly because the notion did not then exist.

Time will tell, but I doubt this will ever reach a Court high enough to hear it. The humiliation would be way to severe for the Country.

Tomato plants have been removed from stores in half a dozen states as a destructive and infectious plant disease makes its earliest and most widespread appearance ever in the eastern United States.

Late blight — the same disease that caused the Irish Potato Famine in the 1840s — occurs sporadically in the Northeast, but this year’s outbreak is more severe for two reasons: infected plants have been widely distributed by big-box retail stores and rainy weather has hastened the spores’ airborne spread.

The disease, which is not harmful to humans, is extremely contagious and experts say it most likely spread on garden center shelves to plants not involved in the initial infection. It also can spread once plants reach their final destination, putting tomato and potato plants in both home gardens and commercial fields at risk.

Why are you saying she has ONLY 2.5 years of experience as a governor? Isn’t 2.5 years as governor more experience than a community organizer? She made “yes/no” decisions affecting her state and never voted “present.” She knows what she wants and how she is going to get it.
We need to applaud the lady, not pyschoanalyze her. She will let us know of her political ambitions, if any, when the time is right. I, for one, believe she is doing this for all the right reasons.

What does “Higher Calling mean?”

If we never hear from her again, it means she has decided that living as a hockey mom is a higher calling than serving the public. (And she may be right)

If she begins laying the groundwork for a run for the Presidency, it means she suffers from the same inflated sense of self-importance as other politicians. . . God is calling and annointing her? She is the new “One.?”

John McCain never should have called her. Although bright and charismatic, she lacked experience and familiarity with national/international issues. She even lacked experience as a governor.

McCain chose her (1) because she could energize the evangelical wing that remained tepid in their enthusiasm for him and (2) because she is a woman; maybe she could pick of votes of some disenchanted Hillary supporters.

It proved to be a case of the Republicans giving in to liberal identity politics. Many “conservative” commentators began flatulating about the new progressive Republican Party, no longer exclusively stodgy old white man candidates, etc. etc. etc. She even identified herself with continuing Hillary’s work of breaking through the glass ceiling.

During the liberal Bush years, Republicans found it difficult trying to be Republicans. What made us think we could be Democrats?

Good Morning
Everyone keeps talking about Gov Sarah Palins next move… or is this the right move,
if you listen to what she said in her speech… she said she could not do her job because most of her time and her staff… were defending her against these false allegations on ethics complaints,
and it was costing the state of Alaska 2 million and put her 1/2 million in debt,
and she said it wasnt fair to the people of Alaska,
and all these attacks against her is one thing…
but to attack her family is another story…what would you do?
if she were to stay and finish here term then they will say she didnt do anything for the state of Alaska the last 4 years because she had so many allegations of ethics complaints against her,
Sarah Palin has a book deal coming… .take it from there,
she will do whats best for her and her family.

secularsquare…..you hit the nail on the head! Bush had the most liberal presidency of the last 25 years. Sarah proved that she is too thin-skinned for politics, and McCain is regretting his decision daily. Sarah lost her Democratic allies in Alaska when she ran for VP. They are the ones who were helping with her agenda, NOT the Republicans. I remember when she even praised Obama during the campaign when she was talking to Larry Kudlow, before McCain tapped her for VP. My how things change.

Comment by Roy

Hi everyone,

Been away awhile and have been reading your comments. Regarding Sarah Palin’s resignation, I don’t think anyone but Sarah Palin knows why she decided as she did. I do know that the treatment of the media toward her has been relentless. It isn’t a matter of being “thin skinned”. First, she has already paid a half million dollars of her own money to fight against liberal snipes who have been conjuring up any silly, frivoluous charge they can think of to discredit her. Why? Because she is extremely popular, and they see their “anything goes” agenda as being threatened. Even if she doesn’t run on the 2012 ticket, people respect her because of the standards she upholds. She is intimidating to them because her standards are higher than theirs, which is easy, since they DON’T HAVE STANDARDS. They are bearing no expense at all by their attacks; so they can do this indefinitely. Sarah Palin does not have unlimited personal funds to fight them–not on her governor’s salary which is pathetic compared to others I’ve read about. These attacks only began after the election when they saw how popular she was. They have been so relentless they have impeded her form performing her duties as governor as effectively as she would have liked. I don’t blame her for passing the ball to someone else. Whatever she decides to do, she has the ability to change the upcoming elections for the better, by infusing her conservative ideals into the mix.

Comment by Roy

Hello again,

One of the big things a lot of people seem to be panicking about is the question of who will represent the Republican Party, now that South Carolina’s governor and Sarah Palin have surprised us. This may seem strange to some of you, but I don’t think it really matters who represents the Republicans, because Obama is the one representing the Democrats. By the time he gets through, Americans will happily elect ANYONE to the office rather than him. I MEAN ANYONE (a skid row drunk, a hooker, a drug dealer, a used car salesman, a teacher fronm West Virginia . . . you name it.)! He is getting more unpopular by the day. The Dallas tea party had 30 thousand participants. Colin Powell, who crossed party lines and voted for this guy, is now coming out and criticizing him for his insane spending. Even the LIBERAL press is getting harder on him, and I NEVER thought I’d see that! Even poll numbers say that Americans still like him, but they are getting very disenchanted by his policies. So, don’t worry, conservatives. Help from the White House is on the way!

Comment by Liz

There’s no easy solution to this horrible economy, but I do think he’s doing much better than McCain would have…..of course that’s speculation. I do like the fact that most foreign leaders like him and are willing to work with him. This news conference in Russia is going very well.

Comment by Liz

Well, at least they estimated it…..while the liberal Bush admin. ignored it completely while they continued to spend, spend, spend…..and pretend they were watching the purse strings! Too funny for words!

Comment by Liz

Al Franken on didiots…..this is funny!

Comment by Roy

Hey Everyone,

Liz, I like the fact that other world leaders “like” him. What I don’t want them to do is view him as a chump! That is what I fear is going on now , especially with North Korea.
And Secularsquare, why pick on Bush now that he’s out of office? I’ve heard liberals say that conservatives are always looking back, but at least we do so for a good reason. We feel that what we are looking back at is worth preserving. But why are YOU looking back? And how long is the left going to pick blame Bush for what they are doing? Bush is out of office. Haven’t you insulted the guy enough? There’s no need to INSULT him. The “anything goes crowd” has already accused him of being dumb, and that’s okay. But PLEASE don’t call him a liberal! That’s an insult to the poor guy. If you’re gonna call someone a liberal, pick on someone who belongs to PETA. Find a member of NAMBLA. They really ARE liberals and their ideas for where this country should go are in the same vein as those of most other liberal “thinkers”. I love Anne Couter’s book, entitled, “How to Talk to a Liberal , Assuming Anyone would want to talk to one”. The woman is a genius! My goal as a teacher and citizen of the United States is to somehow convince liberals to stop watching MTV and switch to FOX. Or, at least, I hope they’ll read, “Economics for Dummies” (if such a book exists).

Comment by Liz

He’s anything but a chump….although that’s what the right wants you to believe. He’s used strong language against repressive countries, and you can’t deny that. As for Bush, OK, maybe he’s been knocked around enough, but over 50% of the country still believes he is to blame for the mess we’re in and only 6% blame Obama, and that’s only because they are uneducated, basically. We call Bush a liberal because his spending habits rival theirs and even exceeded any liberal spending admin. to date. They only pretend to be fiscally conservative, just to try and trick people into believing that.

Anyway, there are many good conservatives still out there, but Obama has taken the last good one and made him ambassador of China. I hope they can come up with some others….I really do.

Comment by Roy

If anyone should know all about idiots, Al Frankin should.
With regard to Sarah Palin, I take her at her word. I believe she left office because she feels she can do more good in another setting. Given how the liberal hatchet people were going after her, she is probably right. She is spending herself dry trying to defend herself against these nutty charges. The same hypocrites who criticize her for abandoning the people of Alaska should ask themselves who is paying for Palin’s legal bills. In case they don’t know, I’ll tell them. SHE was paying them, and what is left over the people of Alaska would have to pay. These rediculous hack liberals can do this junk indefinitely without concern about their own shrinking wallets. A half million dollars is a lot to come out of ANYONE’S salary, especially the pocket of the governor of Alaska, whose salary compared to other people of similar stature is pathetic. These clowns have not stopped since they election ended. They have attacked her family, her faith, her integrity, and everything else they could think of. Palin CAN be more effective outside the Alaska governor’s office. I take it she intends to perpetuate conservative values and ways of thinking; and that is a VERY good thing. Her “higher calling” I believe, is simply to help in ushering in a more effective group of leaders for America, and even if she does not do that as a presidential candidate, she can still be very effective.

Oy! Al Franken has an approval rating of 10.

June 18, 2009

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama faces growing concerns among voters over government spending, the auto industry bailout and other economic policies, according to two opinion polls released on Wednesday.

Nearly 70 percent said they had concerns about federal intervention in the economy, including Obama’s decision to take an ownership stake in General Motors and the prospect of more government involvement in healthcare. Obama has made healthcare reform a top priority of his administration.

The poll also found that Americans were alarmed by the amount of money doled out to boost the economy and a majority thought the government should focus instead on reducing the federal deficit.

Both polls also found a majority of Americans opposing Obama’s decision to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Keep talking about Bush if it makes you feel better about your choice all you Obama fans. Bush’s mistakes cannot cover Obama’s just because so many of you wish they would!

Excellent statistics, Sterling.

Comment by Liz

Roy, are you sure it was the liberals coming after her in Alaska? You better check that out! I know she was not getting along with members of her own party up there. The Democrats were working WITH her and her own party was working against her. I’m not sure who exactly was investigating her, but I would find out before just blaming “liberals” in general.

Comment by Liz

I totally agree with all those statistics Sterling, who wouldn’t? I’m not sure I trust Obama either, but I definitely trust him more than I would have trusted McCain…..because I think he was Bush all over! I trust Obama 30%! LOL — He has all the best economists working on it though.

Comment by Liz

I’m sure ethics committees have to be neutral, but it seems that the total in legal fees for Sarah was actually closer to 296,000 and she is fund-raising to cover 600,000 that she says it cost her. I know you guys don’t like the Huffington Post, but check out this Alaskan’s “facts”. Until Sarah comes up with a breakdown of the costs, I wouldn’t believe anything I hear or read.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/akmuckraker/what-is-sarah-palin-think_b_225648.html

Comment by Sterling

I don’t mean to be disrespectful at all, so please do not misunderstand me, but why would you believe what HufPo says about Sarah’s legal fees but not what she herself would say?

Comment by Gini

Roy,
I agree, and as is apparent, there are those who just can’t come into the moment, but continue to argue in the what if’s arena. Actually, as I recall, Himself won, and McCain and what he “might have done” isn’t even part of the discussion of the politics of what is happening at all. And so it goes, after all, when people w/absolutely no idea of what is going on, or the history of our nation {feeling strongly, and stated, they are “in the past and need to stay in the past”} try to interject themselves in the conversation. The “liberals” live in the land of justifying bad behavior by other bad behavior, as well as taking zero responsibility for the present state of the nation. We look forward to Sarah, and anything she contributes to the effort for more responsible, conservative, moral, ethical…citizens, to come forward to be leaders in this most difficult and tumultuous time. I do enjoy your smart and informed comments! :)

Comment by Gini

Sterling ~~sigh~~ :) She would rather discuss McCain, apparently??? and the “what if”, hum? Informed and smart are not the strong points observed by anyone at all, so a good question, but prob more of the same, in the answering, hum?

Comment by Liz

Mostly because she quit her job!

Comment by Liz

I took a lot of history Roy, so I do have some idea about what I’m saying…..believe it or not! If one of the liberal governors quit his job, would you be so forgiving? Of course not! Like they are saying all over today, there seems to be a “double standard” for Sarah, but who cares? She was “wronged”! But….who did she “wrong”?

I think she lost all credibility by quitting.

Comment by Sterling

But Liz, that doesn’t make any sense to me. You’ve made clear that you’re not a fan of hers since you started blogging here. It’s perfectly fine if you don’t like her, but you can’t say it’s because she quit her job, because she just did that a couple days ago. That’s not a viable argument to why you wouldn’t believe her, but you’d believe the press about her. Did you not watch her speech on Friday?

Comment by Liz

OMG, I was replying to Gini! Scratch that last post….she wouldn’t know the first thing about it! LOL

Comment by Liz

Yes, Sterling…..her speech was “jumbled” at best. What did you get out of it? I came away with nothing. I’m going to check out her facebook page tonight and see if I can figure out anything.

Comment by Liz

I want a breakdown of why she was investigated and what was the cost to her and the state of Alaska! If she can’t do that, then she’s just not very credible. But if she can, then I will decide whether or not she was justified in leaving her post!

Comment by Gini

Ah…point and match, I think??? And so it goes….yep!

Comment by Liz

Well, Gini, sorry but I can’t make heads or tails of your posts most of the time. Are you speaking in code? Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t know that language. Since I actually replied to your last post you should be flattered! Hum?

Comment by Liz

Sterling, I have not been saying I don’t like her, just that I don’t think she is qualified to run for Pres. I think she needs a lot more experience in gov’t. and she just cut short her first term as Governor, which didn’t help her cause. She could be a good speaker for the GOP with a good speech writer….because I think she is “eye candy” for the majority of the GOP, which is mostly wealthy, older white men! I know that’s a sexist statement but that’s the way it is, and that’s why I really want to see some major changes in the Republican Party.

Wouldn’t you rather see someone like Megyn Kelly run for VP. She’s pretty AND extremly bright. She’s got a law degree and I love how she tells Bill O’Reilly what’s legal and what’s not. She disagrees with him vehemently sometimes. I love it!

Comment by Gini

Again…point and match! And the “shoe definitely fits” apparently???

Comment by Liz

Yes, my glass slipper!

Comment by carolynro

Sterling: 42% of Americans don’t want their health insurance messed with.

It is well known that a platoon of liberal attorneys were dispatched to Alaska shortly after she was announced at the VP nominee last September. They were charged with digging up any thing they could make into a scandal to defeat Saraa. The legal bills she has had to rack up just to defend herself are nearing $2 million. It is a tried and true democrat tactic which is called the “politics of personal destruction” which has been used by unions as well to defeat their oponents. The funny thing was when the republicans turned it on Clinton. He didn’t like it one bit when it was done to him.

Headhunter and Author Stephen Viscusi Wonders: Will Barbara Walters Tap Sarah Palin to Replace Elisabeth Hasselbeck?

This past Sunday, the political news shows and even the New York Times were all about Sarah Palin’s next career move. Everyone seemed to be guessing as to what her next job was going to be and why she resigned the job she had.

That’s where I come in. I’m Stephen Viscusi, a headhunter and author of two books on the workplace. My most recent book is called Bulletproof Your Job (HarperCollins), and I’m the founder of a company called http://www.BulletproofYourResume.com.

Let me be clear. Using no legitimate sources and acknowledging in advance that this is purely my own unsubstantiated conjecture, but speaking as a workplace expert, I’d like to scoop the rest of my fellow journalists by suggesting that Barbara Walters hire Sarah Palin to fill in for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, while she’s on maternity leave, on ABC’s “The View”.

Everyone else in the world has had their opinion, why not me? After all finding jobs for people and giving career advice is my business. So, I figured I should add my hypothetical two cents.

Barbara Walters is the grand dame, not only of interviewing, but she’s also one of the smartest TV producers and ratings grabbers in the history of television. Barbara, not that you need me to tell you this, but Palin would be a great addition to your superstar show, “The View”.

Comment by Stephen Viscusi

The fact that Hasselbeck will be leaving soon anyway for maternity leave allows Barbara to slip Palin in without insulting Hasselbeck, the resident conservative.

Whoopi Goldberg, who is the moderator and always a consummate professional, may not agree with the politics of Palin, but she’s no ratings dummy. She will politely transition in Palin, who will no doubt get a cold shoulder from the Joy Behar.

Doesn’t this make perfect headhunting career advice?

Do you think it’s a coincidence that Palin is resigning her office at the end of July and Hasselbeck is expected to give birth at the beginning of August?

I even have a “Plan B” for Palin if Walters passes up on my headhunting suggestion. Fox could grab Palin and give her – her own morning show. Sort of a counter-programming to MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”, which could be called “Morning Sarah”.

If Fox does a “Morning Sarah”, Palin could talk about being a mom and attract the majority of Americans who still consider themselves moderate while making moose burgers on the set with Martha Stewart as her guest. “Morning Joe” is sponsored by Starbucks while Palin’s show is more middle America and could naturally be sponsored by Dunkin Donuts. After all, “America runs on Dunkin.”

Well, that’s my unsolicited career headhunting advice for the networks and Palin. Let me know what you think.

You’re always welcome to write me with your career dilemmas, and I’ll answer you on this column.

Sarah is certainly no less qualified than our current commander-in-chief, and in fact, she has much more hands on experience than just showing up and voting “present,” and she’s got more than a couple years to prepare for much more. Judging by what is happening now, and the fears that are being raised by the recklessness of this administration, I think the country’s going to be more than ready for Sarah in a few years. We’ll need another Reagan-like leader, and Sarah may well prove to be that person.

She is a breath of fresh air to a lot of folks in this country who have felt that their representatives have given up representing them. She stands for the people, and as long as she is true to her character, she will go a long way. It may be an uphill battle, but she will prevail.

Absolutely Chas, and a wonderful read! As is Franks, and Sterling’s, and Carolyn’s, and others here at Aly’s. I have miss understood apparently. Bruce…I do not belong to a GOP anything. Some private correspondence only, and of course, not shared w/o permission. I have made some great friends here at Aly’s and some unsolicited enemies as well, would seem? lol I do read all the blogs posted here, and they are all excellent. :) open to anyone who wishes to click and read. :)

Oh yeah, I forgot how many hours it takes to fly across the ocean every couple days to trash America to our enemies. My bad.

You always post excellent quotes, Sterling. One can learn a great deal from reading the works of the founders of this wonderful country. It is enlightening to see how many of their fears for the country are unfortunately coming true.

Liz K,

Try reading the debate notes from Madison if you really want to see how smart the Founders were. They were over 230 years ahead of us. They saw it coming even back then.

Human nature makes many predictions possible, don’t you think?

Comment by Liz K

I do agree with that, Carolyn, and unfortunately many do not learn from the mistakes of the past or don’t bother to even study the cause/effect of previous events.

Comment by carolynro

Well, Gini: I have stood up against much greater things than sniper fire, believe me. I know who I am. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone. I just get upset when my friends are mistreated. You and the rest don’t deserve the abuse. You all have been nice. I admit I never even tried because I knew right away what the lay of the land was. You can say what you want about me but don’t disrespect my peeps! :) .

Comment by Liz K

Loyalty is a wonderful character trait, Carolyn.

Comment by carolynro

Yep, Liz K. that is why there is ACORN and all the other nefarious groups that capitalize on the dark side of people. The perfect union requires honor and sacrifice and generosity and self preservation. The founders knew that some would subvert their intentions. They did not know how many. And today we are seeing the culmination of that subversion- victimhood, purposeful fraud, negligence, dependence all promoted by a government that has become no better than the groups like ACORN. “Never let a crisis go to waste”, the words spoken by Obama’s chief of staff, speaks to the darkest, basest cynisim I can imagine. Always looking for a place to insert the agenda of the takers who dress themselves up as givers when all the time they are only looking for fame and fortune for themselves. Obama is not serious. He is playing a game. He may not even realize that he is the meal ticket for all the crooks he surrounded himself with. While we sit here and watch. They don’t even try to hide it anymore. This gang makes Hillary look honest. Good night!

Comment by Liz

It amazes me that you will stand by someone who quits, no questions asked! And of course it’s all the libs fault. You don’t have a clue about what’s going on in Alaska do you? Sarah’s own party won’t work with her and the only ones up there who would were the Democrats. She threw so many people under the bus, including her ex brother-in-law, the she was investigated by the ethics committee – NON PARTISAN. Why won’t anyone here get their facts straight before spewing??? That’s mob mentality….and it gets a special mention in my paper! LOL Her ignorance civil rights and the constitution is causing most of her problems! And this is someone you want for President? Puleeeeeeeeeze! It is amusing me though, I must say!

Comment by Gini

AND I say again, Point and Match! :)

Comment by Retro

Her ex brother in law tazed his son and was abusive to his child and her sister. I would not only throw the jerk under the bus but run over him with the bus. I have this little intolerance of wife and child abusersbut I guess you think that is all right, huh, Liz? And as for changing jobs, people do it all the time. People quit jobs to come to work in the administration, what’s the big deal? Hillary quit the Senate to do it. It is a double standard.

Comment by Retro

Sarah was a reformer who went against the corruption in her own party, and those people don’t like her, naturally. The clean ones do. Now isn’t it interesting that Chicago has the most corrupt politics on the planet yet Obama is so well liked by HIS corrupt party there? This tells me something. Open your eyes, Liz. Talk about “mob” mentality- Chicago, the place where Obama was spawned, is the mob personified. Literally.

Comment by Retro

Liz, do you ever read about these issues? What books have you read lately? By the way, Liberty and Tyranny is NOT a consipracy book. Have you attempted to read it yet?

Comment by Liz

No, because I’m sure it’s very one-sided, just like Bill O’Reilly’s. I didn’t read Hillary’s book either, just because I have issues with her too. I do like a lot of the younger women in politics though who haven’t had time to become corrupted yet. I hope they stay that way.

Retro, what has Obama done that is corrupt that you can prove? There’s lots of innuendo, but nothing ever substantiated. I believe he’s honest and maybe Chicago will get a new reputation, who knows! LOL

Comment by Liz

BTW, Sarah’s brother in law was not Sarah’s problem was he? Her sister needed to resolve it through the courts. It was up to Sarah to avenge her sister, now was it? That kind of thinking is criminal Retro!

Comment by Liz

Hillary was running for President, doh! Then Obama named her Sec. of State. I don’t see the correlation at all, but that kind of bizarre thinking seems to be rampant here. LOL

Comment by Liz

Gini, what are we playing…..tennis? LOL

Comment by Retro

Hillary was a Senator and QUIT. She did the exact same thing as Sarah Palin, as did Kathleen Sebelius, Rahm Emmanuel, et al. People quit jobs and move on to other things all the time. Are you in your original job, Liz? If you don’t see the correlation at all, then you are not thinking fairly and logically.

As for Sarahs brother in law, is she her sister’s keeper?… to paraphrase a famous question. Sure, one can allow a family member to struggle in an abusive relationship and perhaps get killed, as many women do. Nobody with a shred of common decency would, but hey, maybe you are used to a family who doesn’t help each other. And no, she did nothing “criminal”. That accusation was not substantiated either. Let me tell you something Liz, I have a daughter. If her husband mistreated her, which thank God she is married to the sweetest boy inth world, but if she were abused, you can take it to the bank our family would get involved and put a stop to it. No way would we EVER allow that. And that is not “criminal”, it is the RIGHT THING TO DO.

Comment by Liz

Hillary never quit the Senate. She only vacated her seat after Obama named her Sec. of State. I’m not sure we are clear on that. Why did you think she quit the Senate?

Comment by Liz

Those people were promoted! Sarah was NOT! She quit for personal reasons, so it’s not the same at all. Doh!

Comment by Liz

Sure, Sarah could have helped her sister in many ways, but not by pressuring the Public Safety Officer to fire her ex brother in law. She pulled a third party into it and that wasn’t fair, was it? When he refused to fire the brother in law, she fired him. That’s why she was investigated. We are talking about two separate issues here Retro, or don’t you recognize that? The Public Safety Officer was not involved in their personal lives, therefore he was unfairly targeted.

No, I don’t believe anyone should be abused by anyone. Domestic violence has lots of victims, but there are ways of dealing with it without resorting to using your power as Governor to avenge your family. That’s abuse of power.

Comment by Retro

What part of Sarah was cleared of any wrongdoing in the brother in law thing did you miss? It was another example of her political enemies trying to harrass her and like all the others, it didn’t work. She was proved NOT to have “abused her power”. As for why she quit, you don’t know yet it was for “personal reasons”; she may very well have other political plans and due to the location of her state and the fact that she CARES about the job, she wanted to leave it when she planned to do something else which would preclude her from devoting the time to it she felt was necessary, unlike Hillary who kept the salary and the job and just abandoned the state to run for President, as did Obama. Is it more honorable to keep a job you are not doing and collect money for it while you seek another job or quit and turn the job over to a full timer while you seek another opportunity? She is being criticized by you for doing the right thing by her state, unlike Hillary and Obama who neglected their job to run for another, collected the money, and then quit for the other jobs.

Comment by Retro

Liz, have you ever quit a job?

Comment by Sterling

You do not know that she quit for personal reasons, and even if she did, people do move on for personal reasons as well as professional. One is no better or no worse than the other. The only difference in this situation is that R behind her name. If if were a big fat D, there would be no conversation about her quitting. (And if it were a big fat D, she’d be the hero of the women’s movement for thunking a useless man who was abusing a woman.)

I believe that she stated pretty clearly in her resignation speech that she was honoring her promise to the people of Alaska by not playing politics as usual. She said that she was resigning in part because of the endless frivolous charges brought against her that have cost her personally a half a million dollars and the citizens of Alaska two million. She’s not the first politician to leave their office prematurely. This is just further proof of the lengths to which the left will go to try to discredit her. Let them keep trying. They’re only making fools out of themselves, not her.

Comment by Gini

Ah…again, Point and Match!! ha ha ha!!!! :) :)
Good evening Retro…great read, as always. lol :)

You’re wrong Retro…..she was found to have abused her power! It was very strange last year when she said she was found innocent because it wasn’t true! But that’s how scatterbrained she is!

Comment by Liz

Total cost 1/3 of a million dollars….in your article Sterling. Looks like she was cleared of all charges after that. These are brought by Alaskan citizens, not attorneys. Anyway, I think she wants to move to the lower 48 and that Alaska was too long of a flight for her. However, I think that quitting is going to go against her bigtime. She won’t be in demand anymore, except maybe for her own talkshow.

Comment by Sterling

I disagree. It’s not the end of the story, but merely the beginning.

She’s lost no credibility, only that those who wish her ill, wish her to have.

“I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. ‘Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.”
Thomas Paine

Comment by Retro

Sterling. Hypocrisy and a double standard as usual, not to mention plain cruelty.
No, YOU are wrong, Liz. The legislature, which was partisan, censured her, but the ethics commission which is actually in charge of making the decision, exonerated her. That was the decision that was actually legal. The other was a political witchhunt orchestrated by her enemies she had beaten on the corruption cleanup she did. You are uninformed.

The very worst I have read about is beyond disgusting, particularly the people who did caricatures of her little baby with Down’s syndrome to make fun of him. It has gotten beyond hateful. I hope she sues the next #$%^ who does that @#$%&.

Comment by Sterling

Keep on telling yourself that, dear. I wish you well until next time. I’m off to bed.

Comment by Liz

Wow, sounds like Thomas Paine was talking about Obama, don’t you think?

As for Palin, I don’t know, but I have my doubts that she will survive politically. I would like to see Barbara Walters put her on The View when Elizabeth goes on maternity leave. Then we can see what she’s really made of.

Comment by Retro

Liz, did you ever quit a job? Do you feel you are no longer a credible person if you did?

Comment by Liz

If I was elected Governor, I would not quit if I had political ambitions. That would be political suicide.

Comment by Liz

When you campaign and get political contributions to run for office, how could you just quit? If I had donted to her campaign I would be pizzed!

Comment by Retro

You really think performance on “the View”, a ridiculous TV show that nobody serious or intelligent ever watches is the way to “see what she is really made of”? That show is the banality of the braindead.I hope she avoids that level of exposure. Although she would add one intelligent voice, but those women are so beneath her.

Comment by Gini

~~YAWN~~ Nite Retro..and Sterling. Sleep well, as one does, whose conscience is totally clear, and whose journey reflects an honest and noble soul, hum? Oh…point and match, yet again! ha ha! lol ~~bye now~~

Comment by Retro

Liz, you didn’t answer my question. Hillary took her Senate money, campaigned and had money for it, abandoned the job to campaign for President, and then QUIT. It’s the same thing, only Sarah was honest enough not to stay and do a half-baked job while she did something else.

Comment by Retro

Night Gini!! sleep well!

Liz, easy question, check the box, “yes” or “no”- did you ever quit a job? Even you can handle that one, I’m sure.

Comment by Retro

c’mon, Liz, you don’t even have to look it up on google to know the answer.

Comment by Liz

She never quit Retro……what are you talking about? Doh! She was a Senator until the day she became Sec. of State! And to answer your question, I never quit a job until I had a new one!

Comment by Liz

Glen Beck went on the View and they tore him up…..he’s such a drama queen! LOL

Comment by Liz

Well, I guess you could Sarah left her job as Governor to campaign for VP as well, huh? That’s not the same as quitting!

Comment by Retro

How do you know she doesn’t have another job? Other plans? Politicians quit one job for other opportunities all the time. Just as you did. Just as she is doing. If she was a Democrat, as Sterling noted, it would not be “news”.

Those women are absolutely low rent on “The View”. Trashy and insulting. Whoopie Goldberg is vocabulary challenged, to put it kindly. That is one silly show. Glenn Beck’s show, on the other hand, discusses important issues every day and has interesting guests. He has two books on the bestseller list right now. Some people actually read books instead of watching The View.

The serial killer who terrorized a South Carolina community by shooting five people to death before police killed him Monday was a career criminal paroled just two months ago, authorities said.

Patrick Burris, 41, was shot to death by officers investigating a burglary complaint at a home in Gastonia, N.C., 30 miles from where the killing spree started June 27. Ballistics tests showed his gun matched the one used to kill residents in and around Gaffney over six days last week, said State Law Enforcement Division Chief Reggie Lloyd.

Investigators did not have an address for Burris. While evidence left no doubt he was the killer, they still had no idea why he did it.

Microsoft Corp. has taken the rare step of warning about a serious computer security vulnerability it hasn’t fixed yet.

The vulnerability disclosed Monday affects Internet Explorer users whose computers run the Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 operating software.

It can allow hackers to remotely take control of victims’ machines. The victims don’t need to do anything to get infected except visit a Web site that’s been hacked.

A fresh protest has broken out in the capital of China’s volatile Xinjiang region, with a large group of protesters blocking a main road in a stand-off with security forces.

The demonstration comes two days after at least 156 people were killed in ethnic violence in Urumqi.

The latest clash Tuesday came in front of a group of reporters who were being taken around the city to see the aftermath of Sunday’s riots, when hundreds of vehicles and shops were attacked.

Good Morning Carolyn, I’ve missed something

Comment by carolynro

No one knows what it is like in elected office until one actually runs, wins and then has to “govern”. I personally know how difficult that can be. I personally know how it effects the family. I personally know to what lengths those who disagree with the elected official will go to ruin them or their families. And I was only faced with a teacher’s union and parents who wanted the school district to be tailored to suit their own kids and who were not responsible for every child in the district. I can only imagine what the Palins have gone through. If anyone thinks that there was not a concerted effort to drum her out of office, they need to put their money where their mouths are and go ahead and run for city council or for school board and make decisions that are hard and sometimes unpopular then come back and write judgemental comments about Sarah.

Good Morning
Sarah Palin said that she cant do her job with all these false allegations on ethics complaints,
and its takes up most of her time to defend herself and the cost of 1/2 million of her own money and two million to the people of Alaska… its just not fair to the people of Alaska,
and to attack her is one thing,
but the attacks against her family….thats is a different story,
and she said that she will campaign for others,
why dont people understand why she resigned….its clear and simple.

Comment by John

Carolro, I’m thinking Liz could use some special ed teaching. But it might be too late. If she is bipartian I am John Mac. Point set and match.

Comment by John

What do you think Liz would say if the MSM would go after the Obummer family as they do the Palin family. She would scream unfair.

Comment by carolynro

Well, John. If I did not have kids her age I would not know why she is the way she is. But, since I do and have had many discussions with them about gleaning the truth from all the crap on the internet that they all read and from all the left leaning college professors (hello Ward Churchill- who actually spoke at our high school) I think my kids would sound alot like her. My son’s roomate spends alot of time on Huf’post and is shocked when I bring a different view to him. I can actually make the gears in his head turn. He can never answer a question but spews out the same junk we are treated with each day. It shows how limited and limiting using internet sites are. It is not about what you hear and what you read on line. It is how you incorporate it all into your own experiences and how you bounce the information off real life and real living. To just quote others is not the sign of an educated person. Relating it to what you do is the test.

Comment by John

I guess it’s morals be dammed. To their way of thinking gov run healthcare is a moral standard. Screwed up thinking. Blame it on the professors I guess.

Comment by carolynro

Further: I believe using the internet as a source of all your information is equivalent to a student trying to pass Literature class by using Cliff Notes. You just don’t get any context of the times in which books were written and you miss an important chance to learn something about culture, politics, and history.

Comment by Roy

Hi Everyone,

Sarah Palin’s quitting her job shocks everyone because NO ONE has done it so inexplicably in the past. It is only inexplicable because she did so for reasons of INTEGRITY. The liberals can’t understand that because integrity doesn’t enter into their equations. They don’t know what it is! She quit; because to continue would have been a waste of time; and it was a waste of time because of all the low-life headhunters that were tying up her time and her money, wasting the money of Alaska taxpayers, and attacking her family. The media’s insistance that something else is not being said is understandable because in their minds, Palin couldn’t be telling the truth about her reasons for quiting. There’s NO WAY she could possibly be quitting for the good of Alaskans. After all, NO ONE does that (at least that’s how they think). The same liberals would probably call Jesus a liar; because, after all, no one would give his life for someone else!
I remind all the “anything goes” crowd that Obama was a United States Senator when he quit to run for president. He was answering a “higher calling”. He could have (and many of us wish he had) waited until he got a little more knowledge, not to mention common sense, about what being president entails. He didn’t though, because he is AMBITIOUS (i.e. It’s all about him). Now, we’re wondering if we’re gonna go bankrupt and if some crazy terrorist that he’s turned loose will eventually kill us.

Hello once more,

I guess it isn’t “just one more comment”. This one will make two. Anyway,I wonder why they don’t consider putting Ann Coulter on the View to replace Hasselback. She has just the abrasive attitude and quick wit needed to put these airheaded liberals in their places. It sounded like Whoopi Goldberg said something about being a little p..sed at Glen Beck. Did I hear her say that, or did I mishear? If she said that, I love it! Liberals always get mad when someone doesn’t get on their “anything goes” bandwagon. How dare they march to a different drum? Beck is a little far fetched sometimes, but he expresses scenarios that may be unlikely but are still in the realm of possiblity–given the incredible and eratic things this administration is doing.

OOPS! I don’t know why but my computer erased my name. In case you didn’t figure it out I am “Enter your Zipcode. Sorry about that. OMG!

Integrity is not a word the left understands Roy, you should post the definition so some on here might get in the real world instead of the fanatsy world they are trying to create.

Comment by Retro

Roy, AMEN! ( New word for Liz, that one!) I agree the internet has dumbed down the discussions. It amazes me that the younger people claim to be in college but don’t seem to read actual books and are so close-minded about reading one that might disagree with their already pre-conceived views. I thought education was supposed to open your mind, not close it. It was an enlightening experience for me and we read tons of books. What DO they do in class now??

And you are so accurate, Roy, about Palin making decisions based on integrity and it being such a total mystery to the news media and the left. It isn’t hard at all for those of us out here who are older in flyover country to understand since living your life with integrity and values is normal to us. Duh.

She’s a joke! What if Bill O’Reilly was on her…..geez, I don’t think she could take it. Everyone gets bashed and she is too sensitive. Someone on the oil and gas commission in Alaska said she has a history of “quitting”. She quit the commission before she ran for governor. Alisyn,
I am amazed that one of the greatest role models in the world, Tiger Woods, completes a weekend of athletic prowess, charity giving to our men and women in the armed forces, and to his own special foundation and our country’s media focuses on Michael Jackson. Both men achieved tremendous success in their careeer. Undoubtedly they hold records, pardon the pun, that probably won’t be broken.
However, when you look your child or in my case grandchild in the eye, which of these men’s decisions would you encourage them to admire. Who would you choose to be the role model for the black community. Who do you think your child would be best served to emulate.
Through Roger Federer in the mix and we probaly had 3 of the greatest in their profession sharing the Fourth of July weekend. Professional greatness comes from sacrifice, hard work, and determination.
Personal greatness comes from sacrifice, hard work and determination. Our kids are lucky that there are still some that posess both.

A woman held hostage for hours by her estranged husband at their former home got out safely Tuesday, said police, who surrounded the house as it was engulfed in flames with the defiant man still inside.

Several dozen gunshots were fired at the South Windsor house shortly after power was cut to the neighborhood and a SWAT team geared up. Police, who didn’t provide details on how the woman got out, used a bullhorn to tell the man, Richard Shenkman, to leave the house because it was on fire, but he wouldn’t leave.

The future of Internet radio appears more secure after a handful of online stations reached an agreement Tuesday to head off a potentially crippling increase in copyright royalty rates.

The deal is the product of two years of negotiations between webcasters and copyright holders. In March 2007, a ruling by the federal Copyright Royalty Board dramatically raised the rates that Internet radio stations must pay artists and recording labels — leading many online radio stations to warn that the new rates would put them out of business by eating up as much as 70 percent of revenue.

do your job.. and stop putting the blame on President Bush…this President has spent more in a few months then every President combined.

Comment by Salvatore

Then why are you here? go watch what ever you want,
dont tell us what to watch…. we like Fox News…their number one.

Comment by Liz

I will always blame Bush….so does most of the country! Doh! He’s responsible for the mess that Obama has to pull us out of, and is doing a commendable job so far. Fox is number one because of their sensationalism…it’s crazy journalism at best, but curiosity seekers like to watch…mostly for laughs. I”m here to write a “fair and balanced” article, and that’s why I have to watch the other news sources. You should try it….you might even learn something and put another wrinkle in your brain.

BTW, Obama has not spent all the stimulus money yet…..most of it was spend before Bush left office on the bank bailouts. Obama put “strings” on that package because Bush wouldn’t. He just threw the money at them.

So dont say… that you are writing… a fair and Balanced… article…pleeeease.

Liz, what books have you read in the past year? You don’t understand Glenn Beck because while you may be in school you are not getting an education. You don’t seem to read anything but the internet and watch anything but The View and leftwing propaganda, and goodness knows what your professors tell you. I have a friend who has written 8 books, writes for a magazine and edits, has the best vocabulary I ever saw, is the top expert in hiw field, has the best vocabulary I have ever seen ( and I have a degree in English), knows more than I do about history (and I have a double major in that), and yet never spent a day in college. How did he accomplish this? He READS, voraciously. Your assumption that the college educated is educated and people who didn’t attend college or not is wrong and ignorant.

Comment by Salvatore

Are you guys watching Bill & Megen….unbelievable.

Comment by Liz

Your friend is a rare entity! I know there are experts in fields who are self-taught, but most need help (teaching) to grasp different concepts, and that becomes easier as you become more educated. I can tell that you are more educated that most who post here, and I’m surprised that you don’t put more value on education since you did go to college.

I’ve read about 200 books in the past 5 years…..don’t have as much time as I used to, so I’m choosy. The last book I read was “My Sisters Keeper” by Jodi Picoult….and I highly recommend it. I don’t read many political books, but “Stupid American History” looks good. I might read that next.

Comment by Salvatore

Comment by Roy

Liz,

I try hard to read your comments respectfully and with an open mind; but when you commented that
Obama is “doing a commendable job”, I began seeing spots in front of my eyes and I almost passed out. Please warn us somehow before you toss another stink bomb like that in our direction. I will say AGAIN, yes Bush presided over a deficit; but Obama’s liberal cohorts have tripled its severity. Yes, Bush presided over a deficit, but he did not CAUSE it by himself. He didn’t have the POWER to cause it. The CONGRESS has constitutional power of the purse; and most of them during the Bush administration were DEMOCRATS. Liz, Darlin’, if we listen to FOX too much, I promise that I might venture over to another network at least once per MONTH for, perhaps, 5 minutes, if YOU will please stop listening to so many of Obama’s speeches. I suspect that is why you are continually looking back and blaming Bush for what Obama is doing. That is what OBAMA does. I have lost count of the times I’ve heard him say, “We inherited . . . “. Obama’s tragedy, as he sees it, is that he inherited Bush’s mess. OUR tragedy, as I see it, is that we inherited Obama! No, I take that back. WE VOTED HIM INTO OFFICE. Not only are we going broke, not only are we in fear of terrorists, not only are decent, traditional values eroding at an accellerated rate, but Americans have to live with the knowledge that we BROUGHT IT ON OURSELVES by electing this guy. Give me a break!

Hello everyone,

In defense of Bill O’Reilly, I must admit that at times he has irritated me. I do, however, try to watch him regularly. He is often rude, iracible, and arrogant. BUT, he also dares to say what many of us would LIKE to say if only we had his platform. I say again, that his personality can be annoying, but it is just the type of personality that is needed with some of the guests he has dealt with. I love the treatment he have to Ms. Walsh, who said she regards Dr. Tiller, of abortion notoriety, a HERO.
Plus, anyone who puts a premium on education cannot argue with a straight face that O’Reilly is ignorant. If I’m not mistaken, he has TWO masters degrees. I can’t remember the university he attended, but I’m thinking Harvard (but maybe not). Liz, I encourage you to watch O’Reilly. Try to get past his personality and simply listen to what he is saying. You owe me that. I listened to Joe Scarborough on your advice. Quid pro quo.

Comment by Liz

Roy, O’Reilly used to be my hero until I saw him starting to be influenced by FBN. They want him to be controversial and sensational and he’s complying. I’ve heard him actually say many intelligent things, and I know he’s very educated, but I think that when he does that Fox gets down on him and tells him to stick to their talking points. JMHO (just my humble opinion)

Democrats did not control the congress for the first four years of Bush’s presidency….he had plenty of time to correct lots of things that he chose to ignore. That’s why the Democrats got control…..the people wanted change.

Comment by Retro

I don’t find O’Reilly irritating at all but simply plain-spoken. I like people who are intelligent who tell it like they see it. I don’t always agree with O but think he is sincere and tries to be fair. He also has values and ethics and doesn’t go with the popular flow. He is also a very good writer. His best book so far is Bold Fresh- it’s terrific.

Liz, you don’t “get” Beck and O because you aren’t reading enough about the issues. You have a very shallow understanding of what they are saying, Beck, especially.Bill O did go to Harvard. Beck reads extensively. Both are very intelligent guys.

Liz, did you read that book you referenced or just see the movie? What have you read about politics, economics, nonfiction?

Comment by Liz

We won’t know for at least another year if Obama’s economic fixes are working, so I won’t prejudge him.

OK, besides textbooks I’ve read “The Waxman Report” and I hope you have too! I read that for a class. The next political book I want to read is “The Next Best Hope” by Joe Scarborough. I won’t read anything extreme, because I just think that’s a waste of time. I’ll read books by moderates only. What books have you read? (I can only imagine) LOL

Do Glenn Beck’s books make more sense than his show? I hope so!

Comment by Retro

“OK, besides textbooks I’ve read “The Waxman Report” and I hope you have too! I read that for a class.”

So, you have read no nonfiction on your own except a poorly reviewed book by an extreme left-wing congressman pushing his political agenda. And you only read this “for a class” because it was assinged-presumably by an equally left-wing professor who is feeding you biased information according to his or her agenda. No critical thinking is happening here, kiddo, hello.

” The next political book I want to read is “The Next Best Hope” by Joe Scarborough.”
But, you haven’t actually read it.

” I won’t read anything extreme, because I just think that’s a waste of time.”
But, the only political book you have read ( for a class, where you were told what to think about it” is a book by a left-wing political extremist. You contradict yourself.

” I’ll read books by moderates only.”
So, instead of becoming a truly educated person, you limit yourself and close your mind, oh, wait, unless it is a book by a non-moderate congressman. You contradict yourself again.
What books have you read? (I can only imagine) LOL

Do Glenn Beck’s books make more sense than his show? I hope so!”
There’s one good way to find out- try reading them in stead of criticizing them with a closed mind. You are intellectually lazy. Don’t try an excuse like this to ME. I’ve raised three children and used to teach high school and I’m an expert at BS detecting.

Comment by βɛʈʈɥ

Comment by Liz

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that Glenn Beck is BS’ing, so why haven’t you figured that out yet? Do some research into his background and then tell me you think he is worth the time of day! If I can’t understand where he’s coming from by watching his show, how am I supposed to know by reading his books? Even Shepherd Smith admits to not knowing what his show is about. Get real Retro. I don’t care who wrote it, “The Waxman Report” explains how Congress works! Read it before dissing it.

Comment by Retro

Well, I can understand where Waxman is coming from by his voting record and agenda- you have no clue if Beck is BS’ing because you admit you don’t understand his show- Read Beck’s book before dissing it. You are contradicting yourself. What do you know about Waxman’s background- did you research it?…. and then tell me he isn’t an extreme leftwinger with an agenda, yet you take what he says as the gospel.

I don’t rely on Shepherd Smith to tell me what to think. I’ve been doing it for myself long before Shep or you were a gleam in your Daddy;s eyes. I would venture to say I know more about Waxman even without reading his book than you do after reading it. And my dear, you have an amateur bs detector if you didn’t detect the professor’s agenda in assigning this book nor Waxman’s in writing it. What book did the professor assign written by any conservatives? Would one not think he would have a variety of points of view to teach critical thinking and not attempt to impose a liberal point of view? Nope, I didn’t think so.

Books I have read related to politics: fiction, Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, 1984- these long ago

More currently: Bernard Goldberg’s ( a moderate) books Bias, Arrogance, 100 People Who Are Screwng Up America, A Slobbering Love Affair…. Bil O’s Culture Warrior, and his biographical A Bold, Fresh Piece of Humanity- I think I have read one or two more of his but can’t think of the title offhand Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell, Flags of Our Fathers, should be a “must read’ for every high school kid in the country, both of those Blood Sport Currently reading Termite, a book about a Houston man who created the firstIraq Olympic boxing team in the middle of the Iraq war, Means of Ascent, about Lyndon Johnson, Partners in Power andPattern of Deception, slouching Towards Gomorrah, A question of Character

Those are a few I remember offhand. Also a whole bunch related to Texas history, one of the subjects I enjoy the most

Comment by Roy

Hey Everyone,

One of ther best, most common sensical books I’ve ever read is a relatively old one called, “The True Believer” by Eric Hoffer. He doesn’t have a college degree; but he, nevertheless, is obviously well read. He also gives, I believe, considerable insight into the liberal mentality that is often so perplexing. I encourage all of you to pick it up sometime.

Comment by Liz

The professor gave us a list of books and Waxman’s was on the list. I chose that one! I thought it was very informative. There were more “conservative slanted” books on the list, believe me. All state schools are NOT totally liberal by any means, contrary to popular belief.

I find the “new” conservative mentality much more perplexing than the liberal one. What bothers me the most is all the hypocrisy. They don’t practice what they preach at all.

That’s why I voted for Obama, because I do believe he is honest. Time will tell I guess.

Comment by Retro

Then obviously you didn’t know much about Obama, Liz. Here is a rundown of the lies the “honest” Obama has told:
http://www.audacityofhypocrisy.com/fashion-shows/

Time told before he ever got elected.

As for “conservatives” not “practicing what they preach”, first of all, I’m a conservative and I practice what I preach. I also dislike bigotry against conservtives, assuming that all of us are hypocrites. I venture to say you don’t have any actual PROOF that “all conservatives don’t practice what they preach” and to say so is offensive. Suppose you said this about some other group, such as, “I find the “new” black mentality more perplexing than the white one. What bothers me most is all the hypocrisy. They don’t practice what they preach at all” Now, is this statement biased? Stereotypical? Bigoted? Politically correct bigotry is still bigotry. It is close-minded, offensive and rude.

Retro:

Hello. How are you today? My comment is this: we can read as many books as can be produced. We can study history to see how things have turned out in the past. We can all go get Master’s Degrees and PhD’s. But, the easiest way to see how Obama’s plans “will all turn out” is too look at California. Gray Davis’s California, Arnold Schwarenagger’s California, what ever governor you wish…but California is a reality show about how the Obama method of trying to control everyone’s behavior with legislation and mandates and raising taxes and fees on those who are working and paying for hundreds of thousands of illegals to have health care, college education and welfare has put California into near bankruptcy. No need to visit all the political sites. No need to watch tv. Just study California and you will see where Obama is taking us.

And I totally agree about being sick of the bigotry against conservatives. Well said.

Retro,

I find no pleasure more enjoyable than reading History. After 20 years I have gone back and am re-reading the Constitutional Convention Debates, the notes by James Madison.

Until you have read and understand them, you really have, in my humble opinion, nothing to say on the course of this Country. You lack the base knowledge to even have a debate. If you don’t understand where we started, how can you say where we should head?

One of the more amazing things about the debates is how these guys more than 230 years ago, said, if A isn’t controlled, then B will happen. Time and again this went on in their debates. And in so many cases A has now happened and we now suffer from B.

Good evening Retro…it’s been a gorgeous day in Ohio! lol :) I love reading your comments. It’s too bad they are falling on deaf ears. Our Liz is on this space to be contentious and hateful w/everyone, and has succeeded, to a degree, in driving some who used to come in the evening to chat abt the news of the day, away fr Aly’s. One would think she would leave, since we offend her so very much, and being not a fan of FOX, one does wonder why she comes at all? I assume it is to aggravate the conversation, instead of contributing to the conversation. I find her annoying, uniformed, uncivil…a boorish person. I do choose to not chat w/her because she contributes nothing at all…not even humor! A boorish person, whom I suspect doesn’t tell the truth abt anything at all…

blah blah blah…..all Fox talking points over and over and over! I wish that I could see something original at least once. Here’s a tip….watch Mad Money with Jim Cramer tonight. I think it’s on again at 11 on CNBC He has some criticism for Obama, but he also explains how the “free markets” go bad! It might educate you a little….I hope!

I noticed Wolfman on Fox tonight (I don’t know his name, but he has a wolfman haircut) – he was talking about 2nd and 3rd stimulus packages, but I don’t know where he came up with this stuff. No other station was talking about it so I was scratching my head. Of course he failed to mention that the first one happend in the last administration and that Obama has barely begun to spend his, but it must have been a slow news day so he had to make up something to rag on Obama for!

Comment by Sterling

I am very sad that the word conservative has come to be a derogatory term. I am liberal in many of my thoughts. I am also proudly conservative in many of my thoughts. I believe in our republic. I also believe in our democracy. How have we become so divided? How have we become so in tune with a party name, at the loss of our country? America is great. She is great because of Her freedoms and liberties, allowing each and every singe one of us to state, whisper, or shout our opinion to anyone who will listen.

I am standing here, watching and listening to everything and I can only say, Have we forgotten our fathers? Have we forsaken our history? What, if anything worthy, is our future? I support the men and women who have given their life and limb so that I do not have to. I have felt alone for many days. I want to support my president. I want to believe that our Congress, and all of America’s elected representatives believe in America as do I. But I am sad to say that I do not believe that our representatives have our best interests, that is the best interests of America, at heart. I fear that they only have their own best interests at heart. And I fear for my country, for my fellow Americans, that that will be the end of our liberty.

Do you know what “conservative” means? I hope that we don’t think that it means the opposite of liberal. It means to conserve the Constitution. Our Constitution. America’s legacy. America’s past, present, and future. May God Bless us All.

Retro, I wasn’t talking about you. I was talking about Ensign, Sanford, Cheney, Gingrich, Bush….all the lying leaders….all caught red-handed in HUGE lies. Notice I didn’t mention Palin because I think she’s just clueless. I also didn’t mention Huckabee or Romney because I do think they practice what they preach.

I can’t believe Sanford had the guts to stay in office. Not only did he humiliate his wife by stabbing her in the heart, he twisted the knife by bragging about all his “other” women and his “soulmate” in South America. What a complete jerk and hypocrite. I can’t respect anyone like that. At least JFK had enough respect for Jackie not to do that. Clinton was also a total jerk….so jerks do cross party lines. I never saw anyone here admit that.

For anyone who is interested, the stimulus was not passed until February after Obama became president. It was the stimulus package that was supposed to keep the unemployment below 8%. TARP which was designed solely to help the banks but is now being used for other things was passed near the end of the Bush administration.
Good night all. Sleep well.

The world-famous Getty Center art complex and nearby Mount St. Mary’s College were evacuated Wednesday as a fire burned in thick brush on the steep slopes of the Santa Monica Mountains.

The fire erupted at 12:44 p.m. and quickly grew to 80 acres above parking facilities for the Getty, which has a collection ranging from European paintings to illuminated manuscripts and photographs, including works by Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh.

About 350 firefighters worked on rugged slopes and seven helicopters pounded flames with repeated water drops. Some of the helicopters were able to reload from nearby Stone Canyon Reservoir.

Fossils found in Brazil are from a crocodile resembling a large armadillo that was a predator in the area around modern-day Sao Paulo state 90 million years ago, researchers said on Tuesday.

The 6.6-foot-long (two-meter-long), 265-lb (120-kg) crocodile, named the “Armadillosuchus,” appears to have been unique to that area, the researchers at Rio de Janeiro’s Federal University said.

The creature displayed some characteristics of an armadillo, with bony plates on its neck and back.

It had a carapace, a wide skull, a short, narrow snout, and relatively small, specialized teeth that make it distinct from any other crocodile discovered, the university said.

Liz, when you talk in stereotypes you ARE talking about me, and every other conservative because of your imprecise and sloppy use of the English language and inability evidently to even recognize your own bigoted thinking. You are not looking at people as individuals with, as Sterling pointed out, various opinions on different issues. The same applies to the politicians you mentioned. Sanford didn’t cheat on his wife because he was a Republican, or conservative in his policies. He did it because he was an idiot. And to equate him to what JFK did is ridiculous. He evidently actually fell for an individual woman and feels guilty about it. JFK used women like kleenex and was a notorious and callous womanizer. He repeatedly humiliated Jackie but it was all covered up and kept quiet by the press. You don’t know these things since you don’t have an educated background in history or you would not say some of the ignorant things about it that you do. I don’t mean that as an insult, but it is a fact and like Bill O I am a no spin kinda person. You desperately need to read some history or you will never truly understand these things.

LMAO! Retro, I don’t talk in stereotypes at all….you do! Most people (conservatives or liberals) think of themselves as individuals. You are proving my “mob mentality” point. Thank you! You are the ones who are bigoted and ignorant as you limit yourselves to watching Fox and reading extreme right-wing authors. I think (and vote) independently. There are idiots in both parties, and I recognize that….you don’t. I think I have a better grasp on history than you do. Bill O. spins everything that comes out of his mouth. Try to pretend that you are a progressive individual and then listen to Bill…you’ll see what I mean. I’m sure that would be impossible. LOL Why would you stay loyal to a party who allowed the American people to be ransacked while waging a war that made no logical sense? I don’t condemn the whole party, but the major players were total morons, to put it mildly. (now you’re going to say I’m bigoted because I used such strong language…as did you) You seem to think that thinking independently is not acceptable, while I think it’s the only acceptable way to think.

NASA began another countdown Wednesday for space shuttle Endeavour, but stormy weather could stall the weekend launch.

The space agency will try to launch Endeavour on Saturday night, following a pair of delays last month caused by a hydrogen gas leak. The leak has since been plugged; a fueling test validated the repairs last week. But now, launch controllers will have to deal with thunderstorms.

Forecasters on Wednesday put the odds of acceptable weather at just 40 percent for a Saturday evening launch. Conditions improve only slightly on Sunday.

Liz why don’t you trying reading the Bible . Then you might not be so eager to slaughter babies and support those who do. I always find that to be the best read. Do Bush spend 4 trillion ? But blame those to keep the real culprits hidden. It that Bummer’s stragedy? Independent WHAT A JOKE!!!!!

John, go back to bed. Nothing you just said has anything to do with me – but since you say the same things over and over it’s pointless to respond to you….so this will be the last time!

Comment by Liz

Retro, I do have to give Bill O. credit for one thing he said last night…..that the Bush. admin. did nothing to stop the oil speculators and that he was the only one who recognized that they were driving up prices of oil. He’s RIGHT about that. Go Bill. I told you I’ve heard him say some intelligent things!

Comment by John

Liz Bummer’s poll numbers are sinking fast. What are you going to do to prop him up now. More stimilus? The truth can be so painful. HUH

Comment by Liz

Retro – John again just proved my point that no one here is capable of thinking independently or accepting other points of view. He’s only watching Fox again and their “spin” on the news. No other network is talking about more stimulus, least of all Obama. If you are following the G8 meetings overseas, you would know that Obama will be hesitant to use any more stimulus at this time, although the rest of the world wants him to.

Comment by Retro

Liz, look up the definition for “stereotype”. When you refer to a group, such as “conservatives”, and ascribe characteristics to ALL of that group, you are STEREOTYPING. Honestly, I am beginning to doubt you are a college student and think you are either a teenger in high school or had a very poor education in high school. I taught my students about stereotyping, how to think criticially and independently, which you are not doing, and the cause and effect relationships in history. The things you are saying bear no relationship to reality, frankly. You refuse to open your mind enough to read a book by someone you have stereotyped and prejudged, then claim not to understand them and claim YOU are an independent thinker. You honestly do not understand what these terms mean that you are using. Lookk up some of these words and think about them and reread what you wrote. Stereotype- independent- cause and effect. Try those.

I looked at a review of the Womanomics book and it had mixed reviews. By the way, did you read it yourself? My work experience is vastly different from what it is about and small business is a great deal different from the corporate world discussed in the book.

The interesting thing is Liz denigrates Fox News because they are reporting something the other networks are not. Well DUH. That is kind of the point. If you want an INDEPENDENT take on things, wouldn’t you WANT a different point of view than the rest of the crowd? Hello.

I had an interesting experience once in my store- I tested water for a pool customer and got a different result from two other stores where she had it tested. She was concerned “I” was wrong. So, I invited her in, and created a sample to show her what my lab was testing, then had her take her sample elsewhere- and their test was the wrong one as I proved to her. What she didn’t realize was their test systems both came from the same place and were deliberately set to do the test this way, for corporate reasons. Our system we had developed ourselves. There was an agenda she was being fed as “truth” from the two corporate places she didn’t realize.

Same thing with Liz. Groupthink as “truth” that isn’t.

Retro: Dozens before you have had this same old exchange with this person. Me, included. It is like talking to a wall as she only looks for things to clobber you over the head with in everything that is written to her. She has no interest in what any one else thinks except to find something to match conservatives up to the talking points she sees on Huf’post and the MSM to support her new belief system after allegedly leaving the republican party and becoming an independent. It is all labels and stereotypic telescoping of what she wants to convince herself others are all about. She has me all wrapped up in a box that allows her to dimiss my pointed comments to her. She thinks I am a depressed angry republican. Sounds strangely like the “angry white male” stereotpye used by the left to disparage conservative men.

Comment by Sterling

Does anyone else find it interesting that it’s only in the last few years, with FOX’s ratings climbing higher and higher, that Americans are now being accused of being one-sided in the way that they choose to get their news, and that they need to get their news from many different stations in order to make an informed opinion? For too many years to count, there were only a couple news stations, and as time went on, they revealed more and more of their biased slant, and kept doing so to the point that they turned off many Americans. Once upon a time, the news was reported and we made up our own minds about what we heard. Now, our ability to make up our own minds is supposedly compromised by which news station we watch.

Funny how I never heard about how uneducated and crazy Glenn Beck was when I watched him on CNN for all those years.

Fox News is number one and the MSM and the leftist blogs are so desparate about losing their footing that they just keep pumping out the lies, speculation, rumor, character assassinations, etc. to try to re-gain their audience. They are angry and negative and are spawning the afore-mentioned group think (I haven’t heard that term in years!) to try to bring people back into their mind control. Sensationalism in the media….kind of sums up Beck’s show!

Stories are often perceived (rightfully, or mistakenly) as partisan or biased due to the sensational nature in which they are reported. A media piece may report on a political figure in a biased way or present one side of an issue while deriding another, or neutrally, it may simply include sensational aspects such as zealots, doomsayers and/or junk science. Complex subjects and affairs are often subject to sensationalism. Exciting and emotionally charged aspects can be drawn out without providing elements such as pertinent background, investigative, or contextual information needed for the viewer to form his or her opinion on the subject.

If the kid is really writing an article I would be willing to help with some tips, but hey, I’ll let the experience of a few rejection notices do the education job and not bother. Life has a way of teaching lessons not willing to be learned from taking advantage of experiences already lived.

carolynro….every teacher has to take diversity training every few years. It’s required in all public school systems. It makes you sensitive to different views and opinions and people. Did you work in a group home? What are you really? I know I won’t get an honest answer, but doesn’t hurt to ask.

Gini, either the strips or the liquid are fine. The main thing is do the testing just right according to the directions. Now, on either one, they tell you that 1.5 is an ideal chlorine level, but in hotter parts of the yer or hotter climates, it should really be kept higher. Down here we tell our customers keep it 2-4 ppm or even a little higher. If you have algae, you need to triple shock and run the pump24-7 untilit gets rid of it. Normal shock is 1 pound calcium hypochlorite or whatever shock you use per 10,000 gallons of water, and you tripe that for algae.

My book details all this . Hope thie helps.

Hello Everyone,

I find it a little odd that some like to talk about conservative hypocrisy. They point to people like Sanford as being hypocrites, yet they ignore jerks like John Edwards who cheated on his terminally ill wife. They also forget about Bill Clinton who cheated on his wife with a 21 year old girl in the Oval Office. I remember Bill Maher’s TOTAL support of Clinton during this time (What a sick clown!). The liberals all yelled about how Clinton’s “private life” had nothing to do with his presidency. I would much rather have a politician who expounds decent values yet “falls off the wagon” than someone who “stays on his or her wagon” of perversion and debauchery and expounds abandoning everything decent. Since none of us is without sin, what should politicians do? Should they just say, “Oh well, we all get tempted, so we might as well do whatever we want, regardless of who it hurts. After all, since I can’t be perfect, why try behaving myself? ” That seems to be the liberal point of view. Many liberals live like animals and rationalize their behavior by saying, “Well, at least we’re not hypocrites.” I sincerely believe what makes the liberal press DESPISE Sarah Palin is the fact that she is a woman who practices what she preaches. She is a pro-lifer who has 4 children, including one that is developmentally handicapped; and she didn’t abort ANY of them. Moreover, she dares to use words like “God” in casual conversation.

Hello again,

I am all for education, but a formal education sometimes can be a disadvantage. I have attended two colleges. In my first college experience, about two thirds of the professors there were scatter brained radicals. One was a sociology professor (picture the type) who read to us from Lenin. As a youngster, I was so impressed by their “knowledge” that I could have easily become a Marxist had I stayed there. Fortunately, I read a book called, “The Russians” that told me that socialism isn’t all it’s cut out to be. I also saw the fall of the Soviet Union and the decline of communism. I also saw the Iranians replace the Shah (liberals blamed the U.S. for him) with a whacko religious zealot that was much worse. Had I experienced NOTHING but the “education” I received from these ditzy, airheaded professors who had more degrees than gray matter I would have spent my life thinking in the wrong direction. People who get their education “on their own” are more likely to seek for and find a variety of viewpoints on issues they are concerned with. They are less likely, in other words to be INDOCTRINATED by people who have been indoctrinated themselves by others who have been indoctrinated by others who have been indoctrinated by others . . . (you get the idea). This type of “education” is why Marxism did not die with Karl Marx. It was perpetuated by the “true believers” Eric Hoffer wrote about. Oh God, deliver us from the cloud gazers and incense sniffers!

Comment by Liz

Well Roy, that must have been a long, long time ago. I find more professors who are more conservative nowadays, which I find a bit annoying to tell the truth. I know there are lots of nuts on the left, just as there are on the right, but the best professors are in the middle. My poly-sci professor was more conservative than liberal, but he let us choose liberal literature. I don’t know what you majored in, but most countries in the world value higher education a lot more than we do. Why do you think this country has so many “rednecks”? We don’t have access to it like most other progressive countries, but that is starting to change with Obama. That’s a good thing. No way do I believe we are headed for socialism….but if you listen only to people who want you to believe that, you will believe it yourself.

Roy, great comment, and thanks LizK, for the kind words. Gini, I have been trying to post this but it isn’t going through so maybe it will this time:

The test strips are fine; just follow the directions carefully in using them. However, most test s say “ideal” levels of chlorine is 1.5 ppm and in hot weather or down here we find it needs to be 2-4 ppm or even more. If you have an algae problem, you should triple shock the pool and run the filter continuously until it goes away and may need to brush it, too, depending on the type. A normal shock would be one pound per 10,000 gallons of water of granular chlorine- triple that for an algae problem and run the pump 24-7 a few days. Hope this helps. This is the kind of info in my book, only a bunch more stuff. I enjoy helping people with their pools.

Retro…I did add more chlorine. I am not used to the strip testing. Have always used the liquid, which I know is not prob as accurate. It has been pretty comical. ALL the colors on the strip are perfect, except the chlorine, IF I am reading the darn thang right, of course! YIKES! Not like it’s rocket science, after all. lol ha! lol And I am certainly not a rocket scientist!!! haha! lol :) Ok…I am a bit manic abt the water, as the grand babies are in it, of course, and I sure want it to be pert near perfecto, hum??? lol

Retro…do you have a wordpress acct? If you don’t, set one up, and then click on Dog’s name, and leave a message for him that you have done that. lol

In the mean time, it’s showing white…no color at all…all the other colors are pretty much where they should be. I keep thinking I am reading it wrong. lol

The pool is huge, fr Sam’s, and we take it down every winter, of course, as it gets really REALLY cold in Ohio…we live in the city…city lot. It fills the whole back yard pretty much. lol ha! Will have to find the book for more details.

I shocked it when we filled it, with a whole gallon of chlorine….but have never been able to get the color right. The directions are vague on the container of strips. Wonder where that darn book is, hum! lol Can’t be that far away! lol Must go look….

Ok, I will try to figure out how to do a wordpress acct. I have internet messenger and yahoo messenger if ya’ll have those? Did you by any chance test it shortly after you added the chlorine? If so, it may have bleached the reagent because it was too strong that soon and skewed the chlorine test, It will do that. You want to do your testing a day or two after you have added chlorine.
