I just watched the segment on the swim club incident in Philadelphia. I have been a lifeguard for 30 years and it sounds like the swim club was not prepared to have this program at the club. They only had 4 lifeguards on staff when the children arrived which is definitely a safety issue. It sounds like because of the "last minute" arrangements of this program led to not being able to staff the pool properly. They would need at least another 6 more lifeguards to staff the pool program with the extra 65 children at the pool. The club probably realized it was a safety issue and was not able to accomodate this program. Ms. Wright said that they had 8 staff members there with the children, but that is irrelevant. Number one, how many of the 8 staff memebers were lifeguard, first-aid and CPR certified ? Number two they are not on the payroll at the facility which is a liability issue.

When a pool manager is given the schedule for the summer at a pool, they hire enough lifeguards to staff it properly with the programs on the schedule. Adding a program with 65 children is very difficult to do at the last minute because of staffing issues which then become serious safety issues. Maybe the staff members who work at the camp should become lifeguard, first-aid and CPR certified to prevent situations like this in the future.

The swim club should have thought about the magnitude of 65 children in the pool with only 4 lifeguards on staff for the day before they said "yes".

Three women donned scuba masks and jumped into the waters off Oahu's North Shore, floating inside a submerged cage as about a dozen sharks glided toward bloody fish scraps tossed into the water by a tour company.

Tourist Kim Duniec said the experience of coming eye-to-eye with sharks was exhilarating. "Their eyes were scary, but they were still graceful, absolutely beautiful," the Beaver Dam, Wis., woman said.

Shark tours like this have become a popular visitor attraction in Hawaii, but a movement is gaining momentum to shut them down.

John, you said....

I’m a conservative I’m not compassionate.

and that's why we need liberals! (I am not a liberal, but you all think I am, so be it) I'm INDEPENDENT and I know we need both conservatives and liberals.

As for Sarah, she is not strong enough to survive the political waters. She has not been attacked half as bad as our president, but I think she knows she couldn't take it if she was in his shoes, so she's getting out while she can. I'm just surprised she didn't serve out her term as Governor. I guess we can read all about it in her book.

Several PC makers were including controversial Internet-filtering software with computers shipped in China on Thursday despite a government decision to postpone its plan to make such a step mandatory.

Beijing's decision this week to delay the requirement that the filtering software — known as Green Dam — be pre-installed or supplied on disk with all computers sold in China averted a possible trade clash with the United States and Europe. But the move by some makers to include the software anyway could re-ignite complaints by Chinese Web users.

Also Thursday, a government newspaper said regulators will revive the plan to make Green Dam mandatory at some point, a move that would disappoint opponents who hoped the government would drop the effort.

I think Sarah Palin is making a brilliant move. First, she defeats all the bogus ethics complaints. Then she shoves it. Since she IS ethical, she puts the state first and takes herself out of the picture so they can't file any more harrassing complaints against her that waste everybody's time and money. Now, she is FREE to raise money, network nationally, develop an international presence, and nobody can harrass her with these ridiculous expensive suits and the state is in good hands. I think she is just beginning. Personally I would like to see her run and win Senator first and then go for President. I think it is a smart move and she knows exactly what she is doing- she is faking out the fakers and haters. Go, Sarah!

Hi, carolynpro- we own a small business too; my heart goes out to you. I know the drill.

Cap, beautiful. Smooches to you! Enjoy your Independence Day, sir. Hope to see you here soon.

Excerpted from Cap:

"You all have a great 4th – today [3rd] was the day General Washington assumed command of the Continetal Army in 1775, in Cambridge; there is a humble cannonade under a tree on the Harvard campus where it occurred."
