Alisyn in the Greenroom

Sunday Morning

What do you think of the President in France?  President Obama didn’t accept a dinner invitation from President Sarkozy.  What’s that about?  Is it a flagrant snub?  We’ll dissect.

And we’ll talk to an expert about the doomed Air France flight.  I know many of you are pilots.  I’d love to hear from you on what you think went wrong.

We’re having the founder of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream on this morning and he’s bringing lots of ice cream.  (Finally, a perk of my position!)  He’s also inventing special flavors for Dave, Clayton and me (a la Cherry Garcia).  Care to take a stab at what each of our flavors will be called?

And I admit I’m a little confused by the vitriol that’s cropped up on this blog.  It seems people are angry that some viewers are liberal and others are conservative.  Isn’t that the point?  Let me be clear:  all viewpoints are welcome here.  The only rules are that people try to avoid being insulting (I see that’s apparently a tall order).  I fear the infighting scares people away who just want to comment on topics they see on the show.  Plus it’s not fun for the rest of us.  Thank you.

Good Morning Ali,

I’ll take some of the Ben and Jerry’s “Alysin Camerahotta” I’m sure it would be great with hot fudge or caramel drizzled all over.”

Obama was an embarassment showing up late and also for turning down dinner with the leader of the country hosting the event. He had world leaders waiting on him not to mention delaying the ceremony just to make an appearance. I am sure he knew the time he had to be there yet he makes people wait just so he can be the center of attention. It’s not the first and I am sure he does so for the attention.

I think Obama’s denial of the French president’s dinner invite could be less of a snub and more of a difference in palates…….or shall we say a small palatial misunderstanding. Last I checked cuisines such as ratatoulie, grenouilles (frogs legs), and crepes were much more popular in France than fair such as macaroni ‘n cheese, fried chicken, and waffles.
We’ll save the Kobe beef discussion for later……

Okay first time blogger ever, I am a die hard republican cause I am smart. I just finished the rerun of Beck cause I can,t sleep. ( pmMENOPAUSE) I guess I can describe myself as a somewhat angry white woman. I am glad he went to dinner with his wife over the fFrance power couple, maybe they just wanted their date night, remember he is married to a smart black woman, they are smart to keep their date night. Maybe he just dosen,t want to temp the first lady of France, or mmaybe the Pres of France gave him a wink and he felt a little disturbed!!

Good Morning from Flyover. It looks like another beautiful day in the making.

Since when did Obummer turn down a free meal? I don’t know the entire itinerary, but I do think it was a big snub. People with no class tend to do that.

Have a great show and a Blessed day, one and all.

Comment by Rosalie Gau

Is there anything the President does that you give credit. I turn to your station when nothing else is on. Your time slot usually is at a nothing else is on hour. Does that tell you anything. No it was not a snub, just honesty, not to popular in your world or station. But I’m sure you and the Inquirer emplayees have the atitude that you can laugh on the way to the bank. Enjoy your money, you have earned it at the cost of you honor.

Comment by Frank

I think the reason why he didn’t go out with President Sarkozy and his wife is that he can’t speak french and did not want to show his ignorance!

Comment by Up Already

Date night with the President – if you had a check book with no limits, I would have a date night several times a week with my wife. Like most of us these days – I am limited by other expenses (cost of living).

Yes he snubed the French President. He is our Politician representing us in another country not a tourist.

Ben and Jerry’s flaming liberals and their icecream is too expensive and to many fat grams!!

Comment by Jim Hantze

I agree on curbing the vitriol. When we can’t listen to and respond respectfully and thoughtfully to the opinions of those who disagree with us, we needn’t respond at all.

I think President Obama could have given a little more thought to his apparent snub of President Sarkozy. I believe that he was trying to come across as not wanting to “party” when his country is in such dire financial trouble. Unfortunately, the press didn’t read it that way.

did I violate the numbers of charachters? I do not see my blog

I am very uncomfortable with Pres Nobama and the French Prez, whats was up with their hands? that reply was either a result of Jet lag or they 2 Prez already had dinner together!!

Comment by Gini

Alisyn,
I haven’t paid much attn to this at all, but has he gone to dinner with any other heads of state? Maybe it’s just not on his agenda, to be fair, on this one trip.
Michelle could meet him anywhere she wishes, I would think? They are free to move around just like anyone else, so it might be common, for a wife of an executive person, to meet where he might be? One does wonder what part is on the tax dime, and what part is on their dime, but I actually don’t care at all. It’s an expensive proposition to transport and secure the prez and fam, regardless of what they are doing…hum?
I agree absolutely…and hopefully all will be calm and peaceful today, as that is the expectation of everyone who comes here, and indeed why we come here, and not somewhere else. So goodmorning all my fellow bloggers. It’s gorgeous today in Ohio. A new day and I am smilin’ huge! :)

Good morning, Alisyn! You’re especially lovely today in your ruby red dress and very pretty necklace. I love your heart-shaped pendant :-)

Most of us are here, I think, because we enjoy watching Fox News Channel, and in particular, your very personable presence and outstanding skills as a co-host and interviewer of both serious and fun topics. I’ve also enjoyed to behind-the-scenes photos that you’ve posted from the Green Room from time to time. I’ve also learned quite a bit of interesting, insightful, and sometimes funny posts and links posted here.

There are very fine people posting on this blog who share a camaraderie and perspectives with respect. On the other hand, there are a very small number of people who seem to have made it their mission to insist, in a rather disrespectful manner at best, and combative at worst, that they know best and everyone else is wrong.

As a Fox News fan, I enjoy the fair and balanced reporting and the “we report, you decide” philosophy. Certainly all points of view are and should be welcome if the intent is to participate in a healthy discussion, rather slam your show or those of us who enjoy viewing it.

Great Erik, now I want a cookie!

Ali I just flew American Airlines to Vegas. Your knees are almost touching the seat in front of you. You can barely set the tray down in front of you and if the guy in front is leaning back expect to be wedged in. You cant stand up and get out with out the people next to the aisle stand up and get out. You cant even bend over to get you bag if stored in front of you. All the seats were full, and dont even talk to me about the small connector flights that were packed.

I usually fly Southwest and if I have my choice will do so as much as possible.

L’affront de Sarcozy était intentionnel et individu indulgent ! Obama is a master at marketing himself, his brand, his ideology. Obama is a brilliant politician and his actions are deliberate. I find the snub distasteful on many levels, particularly because I find it self-indulgent. I admire that he values his wife and his marriage, but our country is in economic turmoil. Flying into NY for dinner and a show, and a night out in Paris is the midst of economic collapse and while on the people’s business on a diplomatic mission is decadent and hedonistic.

snubs abound in this administration only to be followed by “my bad” (and that makes it all better) of the “In the Tankers”. The queen was snubbed from the D-Day presentations, the dinner snub with Sarkozy, not stopping in Isreal while in the middle east. But there are perfectly good “reasons” for all of these….after all it’s Obama

good morning all

welcome Kathleen from a fellow peri-menopausal—sleep is foreign to me as well—

We had date night last night–but it was on our dime—nice dinner at Ruth’s Chris—yummo!!

Was a big loser with the ponies yesterday—only came home with $30—oh well–we had a fabulous day though!!

I don’t besmirtch them the opportunity to have dinner in supposedly the most romantic city on earth–(i’ve never been to paris, but i still think Italy is more romantic)—- but doesn’t it behoove him to take care of state business first—and if that means dinner with heads of state, then so be it. Obooger needs to suck it up—it’s not all about him. I can’t imagine they couldn’t squeeze the Sarcozy’s into their schedule somewhere??? Other President’s have managed to maintain decorum.

I really don’t want to see her confirmed….but I know she probably will be

Searchers found two bodies and a briefcase containing a ticket for Air France Flight 447 in the Atlantic Ocean close to where the jetliner is believed to have crashed, a Brazil military official said Saturday.

The U.S. Navy is sending two “pinger locators” to aid in the deep sea search for the “black box” from the ill-fated flight, U.S. officials told NBC News. The U.S. officials said the locators will be towed behind two French tug boats that are en route to the site. The listening devices can detect signals from a pinger at 20,000 feet, nearly four miles, beneath the ocean’s surface.

Hopefully this will be a simple deep sea extraction.. KUDOS TO THE PRESIDENT ..WHOS NEEDS TO GO TO FRANCE AND EAT FRENCH FRIES…

I only read a small paragraph concerning the president and his invitation to dinner. From what I read he has his daughters with him this time and they had planned dinner on top of the Eiffel tower and he did not want to disappoint his children.

Thank you for taking the time to bring attention to the vitriol. I am a liberal who enjoys listening AND sharing ideas that are NOT popular on this blog. I do know for a fact many contributors have left because of the animosity and insults they face while being a contributor on your blog. Now that you have made your views apparent (once again) I am sure the amount of your contributors will increase.

Obama was in France on STATE BUSINESS. He should have dined with Sarkozy. This
“we’re buddies anyway” excuse was mutually self-serving (to Obama and Sarkozy).

Obama snubbed Sarkozy, possibly in reposnse to an unflattering post- G 20 interview Sarkozy gave in which he implied that Obama was naive, possessing no administrative experience and a desire to be liked by everyone.

Good morning Gini, Chas, and everyone :-)

I can’t stay very long this morning … have to be at church 45 minutes early today … so have to start getting ready soon! Here are a few tidbits that may be of interest:

About declining the French President Sarkozy’s invitation to dinner, Mr. Obama dismissed the idea that it was a snub, saying “I have a very tough schedule and I would love nothing more than to have a leisurely week in Paris, stroll down the Seine, take my wife out to a nice meal …Those days are over for the moment” (Source: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.f81c21b2e705813bf48fa8f9241d53af.201&show_article=1)
Actually, Mr. Obama did take his wife out to a nice dinner in Paris last night after all, sans kids.

Earlier, a reporter wrote: “The bottom line is they want to have a family night somewhere with the girls (could be dinner at the Tour Eiffel). … the Obama team asked the U.S. embassy to find them a restaurant and the U.S. embassy turned to the French authorities for help because they have to close the neighborhood.” (Source: http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/06/02/michelle-obama-daughters-headed-to-paris/)

The first lady and children apparently were accompanied by quite an entourage (mother-in-law and others besides deputy chief of staff Melissa Winter and spokesman Catherine McCormick-Lelyveld and secret service ) … look at the second photo here: http://thisweekwithbarackobama.blogspot.com/2009/06/flotus-wgirls-at-eiffel-tower-paris.html

It would be a common practice, that the children would be on film, even if they are “off limits”, as they should be of course. I think we are all scrutinizing Obama’s every activity because;
1: he is on the tube more than any other president
2: he made so many promises to the poor and middle class that we see no evidence of him being able to fulfull
3: the media has made such a big deal over him and how much smarter and more charming he is but he seems to not really understand protocol.

Has any of the stimulus money actually been released? That is what I want to know- I mean other that the extra $13.00 a pay check!

ok – I am learning that everything this “president” does has an ulterior motive – everything – one would be prudent to look, listen, and read between the lines – isnt the President of France cracking down on all the muslims there – hmmmm

I wish I could trust this President but I do not -

Comment by Lanna

Sarcozy is the most pro-American president France has had in years. He is a conservative who campaigned on national identity, security and economic reforms — including curbing union powers, cutting punitive taxes and eliminating “social charges” for those who want to work more than 35 hours per week. He’s dedicated to steering France away from Socialism.

I’d say it’s always all about the President, or at least that is what he believes.

First half way friendly leader we’ve had in France in decades and Obama blows him off. Nice play Mr. President.

Comment by Judy

I think it’s a disgrace that Obama snubbd Sarkozy and instead took his wife out to a ‘romantic’ dinner, along with his being late for a meeting with other leaders.
I am tired of Obama running all over the world on the US tax dollar when so many people are out of work and barely able to survive! Will the media, other than FOX, ever get that he is just a power hungry man who is acting more like a giddy little boy than the leader of what nI’m afraid used to be the most powerful nation in the world?
I hope all the people who voted for him in November are ready for all the changes to our whole world. I for one am glad I’m not under 50!

Lanna – YES YES YES – there is the rub – America has been in anti-France mode for awhile but this new guy does not fit into Obama’s and Soros NWO model – there it is – there is always a game – a dangerous game -

Comment by carolynro

The mission of Obama is to change everything I guess whether good or bad, just change. Unfortunately, change from what? The message has been “BUSH BAD”: “CHANGE GOOD”. When in fact, without an honest evaluation by the media, which is who many people rely upon to get their opinions, we are possibly throwing out the baby with the bath water. And with all of the HATE BUSH websites where another large number of people get their daily nourishment, we will not know if CHANGE is all it’s cracked up to be even as we demand it because we have been told “CHANGE IS GOOD”.

The media and the hate sites are not discussing how many BUSH policies Obama has actually taken up as his own. Frustrating when only part of the story is being told!

I think that it is the President’s job to meet and dine with the heads of states when he is traveling overseas. If he wants to have a “date night” with his wife in Paris then he should do that on a separate night or on another trip. He has been hired as the leader of our country by the people and having dinner with heads of states is part of his job description.

Comment by carolynro

Good one A-wall!

The problem continues to be that it feels like he is putting his personal attitudes ahead of the security of the nation. It feels like he should be home “holding our hands” but he does not know how to do that! We had a minister at our church who was the greatest sermon giver ever but when it came time to “pastor” or counsel members of the congregation, he would pass us off to the elders, who only met once a week or by appointment! It was very disconcerting to many of us!

Comment by JP in PA

Morning all– a question for the blog, particularly Chas, as he seems to pay attention to things like this, but when Sarcozy was elected, wasn’t there a huge dust up about him being a fiscal conservative and W was all happy, buddy buddy? He did replace Jacques “socialism rocks”, after all. Perhaps the dinner conversation would’ve upset the 1st Couple’s digestion more than the butter, cream and escargot?? I’m thinking the O’s maybe declined, so they wouldn’t have to hear it about the US becoming more socialistic than EU??

On a petty note (sorry about the vitriol, but I have tricep envy) Mrs. Sarcozy has better arms than Mrs. O, not to mention the parts we sit on for dinner!!

Comment by lizzy

Gini – our “President” needs to be vetted NOW – It is obvious he is being protected – but the issue remains and will always be in Americas hip pocket should we need it – BO will cross the line for most Americans eventually – then we will see -

Ideally that is what is supposed to happen, once the election is over, and we have chosen a leader. They are at that point, supposed to looking to protecting and defending the USA, above the fray, of course. Some have tried hard, to cross over the aisle to reach out, but have been unable to successfully pull that off. One might read Chas’ piece on that subject. lol :) The “ideal” falls short, most of the time, unfortunately, for the citizen. lol

JP,

You recall correctly. But his attempts to back off the socialism has not gone as well as he wanted. For example when he tried to make it so people could be fired in the first year on the job Paris went nuts.

Basically France wants to have it’s cake and eat it too. The Country is going broke and he was elected to stop the decline, but they want it done without cutting back on anything or raising taxes.

but I believe and Hope that their boy, BO, will cross the line of toleration and awaken the Amercan sleeping giant -

talk about not believing what you are writing – whew -
but …… it is the prudent thing to do – peacefully – that is the key – they are trying to anger us to revolt – we must remain peaceful – it is possible

I see now that my browser refreshed that indeed others noticed the same thing I had about the possible political frostiness…if the first family really had dinner on the Eiffel Tower, did we (US taxpayers) have to pay to clear the rest of the restaurant so that the Secret Service could do their jobs and protect them?

I think many of us “regulars” have felt vitriolic at the lack of curiosity by the media about Obama’s background. They published every word of every Bush military record, though. And then filled in the blanks with their own fantasies about where he was and what he was doing! I also believe many people are feeling betrayed by a media who covers up for a guy they like and but goes after conservatives or republicans. Speaker Gingrich and Speaker Pelosi for example of totally different treatment. They love Sotomayor but hated Gonzales. They love Obama but hated Clarence Thomas. We are expected to not see the inconsistencies and are constantly told that we should over look that and move on and get on board with what ever the leftist media sees fit to report upon. That is why we like Fox because it is not so heavy handed trying to beat us over our heads with propaganda. Yay Foxnews!

Whos said this?

Because when a case comes before me involving, let’s say, someone who is an immigrant — and we get an awful lot of immigration cases and naturalization cases — I can’t help but think of my own ancestors, because it wasn’t that long ago when they were in that position.

But when I look at those cases, I have to say to myself, and I do say to myself, “You know, this could be your grandfather, this could be your grandmother. They were not citizens at one time, and they were people who came to this country.”

And that goes down the line. When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account.

An Associated Press Television News journalist saw the three enter the Eiffel Tower. The First Lady waved to tourists who squealed and greeted her, the AP reported.

Obama and his family spent the night at the U.S. Embassy in Paris. They are scheduled to travel to Normandy today to attend the international ceremonies marking the 65th anniversary of the World War II D-Day landings.

Afterward, the Obama family is due to return to Paris to visit the Notre Dame Cathedral and dine at a Paris restaurant.

The President is returning to Washington tomorrow, but Michelle Obama and the children will extend their stay in the city until Monday, where they will celebrate Sasha’s birthday.

Good Morning Ali,

One more snub by Oarrogance, what a surprise!!! How much higher can he stick his nose in the air when he talks down to people from his beloved telepromter? These two, Ohag and O-its-all-about-me are just not connected with the rest of us in this economy. The way they spend and run around is also a snub to the US and it’s HARD working people who pay the taxes for their out of control behavior. I’ll bet they wake up every morning to the theme song from the Jefferson’s. Were Moving On Up…… It’s just as if they can’t control themselves and their spending, both in government and for themselves, now that they got what they wanted by spending the money other people (liberals) gave them, and the election!
I’ve never seen a President who just does what he wants, with no regard to the results and wants everything pushed through as fast as possible so nobody has a chance to study the action or results. I guess I don’t understand “Transparency”. BS! His interpetation is “I don’t care, Do as I say, Get out of my way, I’m coming throught, with my telepromter.

HK…I have never worried about who the prez is, as much as I have this time. I have always depended on the congress to hold the line, so to speak, so this is a huge mess, for sure. Now, I say again, why would the congress allow the prez so much authority? and why on earth are they so happy to hand all of it over to him? and what will they do when they wake up, and find all their authority in the hands of Czars, hum??? Asleep at the wheel? Oh yes, and “drunk” w/power, for sure..as the pockets get deeper and full of cash, fr the citizen, who watches in amazement, as it all unfolds. hum? lol oh yes, for sure. Cookies may not be enough for this citizen, to calm the atmosphere surrounding the WH these days. lol

Maybe you have seen such a president..

If that is the case, you are right and I feel sorry for my and Chas’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

BTW – Good morning :-)

It’s nice to be back though…. hope you all have been doing well.

Obama and Mama snubbed the leader of France because of the delusion that “they can” indulge themselves with anything they want. He is, of course, an entertaining King of the world.

Liz, you are correct good manners would dictate, but then again….we are talking about a man that just went on a dinner date in Manhattan at the upper tune of 100,000 (on our dime) while most American’s are stuggle to buy a “FILET O FISH” sandwich at McDonalds. Its the way of Elitist’s……

Lizzy,
It does depend on where one might be, hum? An hour behind for me, for others, the clock is “right on time”…must be chged by wordpress, and apparently is just not important, and I agree with that, if messing with, causes a prob at all. lol It’s right all the time, after all, somewhere?? :) :) :) Like the clock in the car??? ~~laughing~~ lol :)

6cane, I think you are off by a factor of 8 or 9. With the cost of three jet aircraft (Ofrequentflier, Press and Staff), Marine 1, etc. If President Otransparent rode in “The Beast” in the BIg Apple it would be just shy of $1 million as it flies in a C130 to the tune of just south of $7,000.

Comment by Gini

I don’t think I watched the news while cruising. In fact, I am sure I didn’t watch any t.v. at all. Had a few books w/me, as we cruised to Hawaii, so it was a long trip, and just had the very very very best time! Took my book everywhere…w/coffee in the early a.m. on deck, a nap in the afternoon, book in hand, along w/a loverly “drink” brght to me personally, by a loverly steward, then evening and dinner, a moment to dress up a bit, and eat some very well prepared food…after which one had many things to pick fr, for entertainment. When I retire, I want a permanent cabin on a cruise ship…someone actually did that, I believe. How fun!!! Not happening, of course, as there is NO MONEY now, if there was at all ever. lol

Comment by Stephanie B.

Gini: Don’t you just LOVE cruising?! We slept with our TV on so we would be sure to wake up early to make the most of the day. It was a great break from reality – you can sure get spoiled with the SeaPass cards… sometimes makes me think there’s an endless supply of cash!! :)

Comment by Gini

Oh Lizzy!!! OMG…that is HILARIOUS, and they do that don’t they??? IF they use the vehicle, why do they chg everything around, one wonders? NOT their car…but, they always do, and I am always provoked, trying to find “my channels” which, of course, are no where near what they listen to. lol And the seat!!! Whoa! readjustment required, as they have that all messed up, as I prefer to “sit straight up”, so I can actually “see the road” in front of me!!! lol Too funny… :) ~~laughing~~ right out loud. :)

Comment by Frank C

The people were disrespecting all the graduates by showing up late. I agree with the comment…if you are 10 minutes late for your flight, most times you will be waving at the plane as it pulls away from the gate! Be on time people.

Comment by golfgirl46

Carla snubbed Obama. Watch the look on his face when she rushed past him to greet Michelle as she got out of the car before the ceremony yesterday morning. And I never did see her speak to him later.

Comment by 6canecorsosinohio

Whether it was 24,000 or 250,000 the dinner date being charged to taxpayers is completely OUTRAGEOUS. I guess a LIMO ride and dinner/play in Washington DC is too shabby for them now.

Comment by chas

In MD if you drive your mower onto a public road, even just to turn around you can be charged with DUI if you are drinking.

It’s no longer about public safety here, it’s all about the money. It’s a source of revenue instead of law enforcement. Common sense right out the window.

Oh Steph, for sure. The hubby did have a couple of eye raising moments, hum??? YIKES! lol Oh well..and yes, I could easily just cruise forever. We had the most magnificent storm on that trip, also. Didn’t have sense enough to be afraid, I am sure…but, then I do get in the car every morning and head down the highway, so this paled in the light of that adventure. Fortunately, we didn’t suffer any sea sickness, but many were very very ill. lol Yes, an all together magnificent trip. We flew home…not so magnificent at all. Told hubby, if we do this again, we are cruisin’ home as well. No more long trips on huge planes, that have little accommodation for the passengers stacked inside. hum? Miserable, would be an excellent description, for the trip home. lol :) Whew! lol

Senseless stupid “rules” and “laws”….

Like not allowing people to enter a high school graduation, good lord it is not the Camp David peace talks it’s a high school graduation. You can’t tell me allowing 4 parents to enter the audience would be THAT much of a disruption. Heavens knows those parents have had to tolerate many many many inconveniences over the years coming from stupid rules and mistakes the school/s have made. Ridiculous… Think out of the box and be part of a solution. This isn’t rocket science.

Lizzy…thankfully, I don’t have to share my car often, so this isn’t happening a lot, anymore. I NEVER touch anything when I drive his car…not even the seat…especially not his radio. But, I could, like you, write a book. Came home one day, and the son was busily chging everything around on my key chain {had run up to the corner for milk so didn’t have the key chain w/me}, and I hit the roof at about a zillion miles an hr!!! YIKES! lol Now, why? Why on earth would he think it was appropriate to chg the keys around on the key chain? I also threatened to put the remote to the t.v. in my purse and take it w/me, if they couldn’t remember to put it back where it belongs…I mean to say, the bathroom??? Is that where the REMOTE GOES??? Ali, you looked beautiful in Marilyn Monroe’s fur! I know that was fun to wear. By the way, wanted to tell you I love your necklace this morning. It shimmers in the lights & it’s beautiful. (I love jewelry)

As far as Obama skipping dinner with the French President. It is just more proof to me he is a narcisissist. It is sad how he continues to insult & snub the leaders of other countries that are allies to the U.S. & for him not to have dinner with the President & his wife is an embarrassment. I don’t care what other meetings or meals they were scheduled to share. I had read the wives would lunch together & the President’s would also have lunch but to blantantly turn down an invitation for them to all socialize together is just rude!

MMMMMM, ice cream! The combinations sounded good except for the coconut. I just discovered one at Baskin Robbins. It’s called “Baseball Nut” It’s vanilla with rasberries swirled with cashews. It is very yummy!

Thanks for making the comment about the infighting & the only rule you ask that people try to avoid being insulting. Something of that nature occurred when I commented about something a few weeks ago & I found myself avoiding coming back. Today I did because I wanted to send a compliment & decided to give this blog another try when I read more about what you were talking about. :)

WOW – what a nice place it appears I have finally found!!! Thank you all!

I want you all to know that If you find me at all alarming it is not meant to be radical or far reaching in any way – I am really concerned with the course our country is taking and as a result have done more research in the last three months than ever before in my life!!! I feel it is prudent – I am an American first! I abhor injustice.

but feedback is so important in keeping one balanced – so I appreciate that and always try to keep an open mind as well –

and it is soooo nice to merely chat with folks -
hope you will continue to do so with this regular ol’ mom from NC.

Morning Cat, have a great day.

Comment by Gini

I actually agree with that as a resolution Lizzy. Problem solving being one of the skills necessary as a homemaker, and keeper of the peace. And we do excel at that most of the time, anyway. We also have several remotes, so one is always “in it’s spot”, and that does make for a calmer environment for sure. Especially since the t.v. doesn’t work w/o it!!! lol :)

Comment by lizzy

Gini – I am doing good keeping up with the computer, if you can call it that – always a challenge as I teach first grade and the new teachers come in and whiz bang on the thing like nothing, leaving all of us “old schoolers” breathless – hahahahah

no grandchildren yet – but the little ones at school fill the void – for now!

Comment by Gini

I am also stalling Sal!!! lol :) b/4 I must get tuit, hum? lol

Comment by Gini

Wow Lizzy!!! Well, I agree, and the twins at 6 are more adept than grandma at 60 plus, hum? Since I have been associated with all these lovely people on this site, I have become more adept at it all, but still fall very short of what one might call “skilled”. I can ask now, so it makes it all easier, than when I began over a yr ago, here at this most wonderful place to be. lol :) Of course, teachers are on my hero list, and not celebrated enough by everyone. lol

Comment by Gini

Lizzy…I think, however, that all we get to hear abt are the miss deeds of a few bad teachers, and not nearly enough of those that contribute to it all, for not nearly enough, hum? Of that I am positive, and feel strongly, that every bad story should be accompanied by a true success story. Teachers are the most important part of it all, after the family. I don’t think anyone could possibly disagree w/that, since our children are at school for many hrs every day…and great trust is put in the teachers that have so much influence on their fragile lives, so I do stand by my “hero” observation, hum? For sure…

Search ships methodically worked through a “sea of debris” from a doomed Air France jet Sunday, recovering four more bodies near the spot where the Airbus A330 is believed to have gone down a week ago.

Six bodies have been retrieved since Saturday and ships were headed to pick up more Sunday afternoon after pilots participating in a grid search reported additional sightings. The bodies have been found in an area about 45 miles (70 kilometers) from where the jet sent out messages signaling electrical failures and loss of cabin pressure.

Gini – baseball over now and just checking back – getting a feel for the blog –

On the subject of teachers – I dream of days gone by where teachers and parents are a functional team with the goal of only one thing in mind – the positive development of a child – or – in the case of high school and college – respect for the truth in what they teach –

both, I am afraid, are rare these days –

as for baseball – the yankees win – the yankees win – a rarity these days – ha

Traversing the globe the last five days or so, I felt pretty good when those recognizing I was American, stated positive things about America and President Obama. Embarrased, I even had a middle-aged man state, “Obama, good—no water boarding.” After the last eight years, attempting to not look American was in order.

I get back into town and peruse this blog and see too much negativism. Betty, who in an earlier post made an off-color remark of the “watermelon garden” at the Whitehouse has the audacity to call the first lady “Ohagama.” Some state here that this post doesn’t do name-calling. I’m not seeing that here.

So this Independent “Visitor” will visit elsewhere. Most I know will say good, but take warning. Your political base is shrinking. With the verbiage I see here and that coming out of the Republican figureheads, this Party and this “News” Network needs a miracle.

Lizzy,
I do to, and was fortunate to have good teachers, but that was long ago, when things were abt teaching, and not so much abt other things. A simpler time, hum? Glad you had a good day…and is school out for you? The twins last day is tomorrow, I think? They leave then, for vaca, to Fla..boo hoo! Wish I was going to, but not this time. Glad you are here…we do have a nice time, at Aly’s. See you next week for sure, but Sal and others do pop in to say hi, during the week…as do I, when time permits. Pretty busy around here, actually. Have a safe week… :)

Vis,

Sorry to see you “leave”. Too bad you didn’t see where the actual carnage began, but then again since it was leftward, you might not have different opinion.

There is a saying that if you repeat a lie often enough it will soon be accepted as fact. The MSM keeps repeating that the GOP base is shrinking, but the fact is the base is the same, it’s the blue city area that is growing.

When you have people living up each others tail, you need more Government, which is why a Republic was established instead of Democracy. Mob rule will only hurt this Country as is shown with the current Administration and past Democratic Administrations .

There was never a thought of the Founders to steal from some to give to others, for the understanding has always been that, that is the end of even a Representative/Republic type Democracy.

Be safe, be well. My blog is always open to you.

Eight illegal immigrants “stacked like wood” in the back of a sports-utility vehicle were killed when the driver lost control on a remote southeastern Arizona highway, authorities said Sunday.

At least 27 men and women were in the vehicle traveling about four miles east of Sonoita when the vehicle rolled for an unknown reason shortly before midnight Saturday, said Officer Joy Craig of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Most of the vehicle’s passengers were ejected.

The department originally reported that 10 people were killed but later lowered the number after learning two people were in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, not dead.

I believe the Air France disaster was a terrorist plot. Possibly to protest France’s renewed friendship with the West or their treatment of their muslim population enclaves. This sounds like a singular version of the KSM plan, the 14 airliners being destroyed over the oceans at the same time. “Lockerbie” was supposed to blow up over the Atlantic and never be solved. Only afterwards could we prove Kaddafi’s involvement and get restitution for the families. Get “Alvin” or “Trieste” over there and get those black boxes. And since most air travel is over water nowadays, redesign the boxes to float. Thank you.

Comment by Salvatore

I cant believe that this Administration and the democrats and the left and the MSM,
are so upset about how these three TERRORIST were treated,
these three TERRORIST that would cut your head off in a heart beat, these three TERRORIST that were behind the 9/11 attacks, THREE THOUSAND PEOPLE DIED that day,
the enhanced interrogation techniques that were used against these three TERRORIST,
saved American lives, and other ATTACKS against Americans, why are they so concerned about these three TERRORIST and how they were treated,
I dont understand their way of thinking.
The President of the United States number one concern is… to keep America safe,
President Obama your job is to keep our country safe,
that should be the Presidents first concern, protect the American people, not the Terrorist.

I know he may never see my response but I am sick of this constant drum beat that everyone hates Bush and loves Obama- especially when the words are telegraphed in stuccato “Obama- good, waterboarding-bad” style that indicates to me a concerted effort to reduce the essence of America or even a presidency down to a sound byte that suffices as an understanding of the utterance as a complete knowledge of our country and it’s response to 9/11. It is a cheap and disingenuous diservice to America to take heed of “Obama- good, waterboarding-bad” and to base your entire view point on that statement. But, apparently superficial understanding of our country is ok with many people. And what about the Reverand Wright statements- way more offensive than anything said on this blog!

Of course it was a snub. The question is whether Obama and his staff outright arrogant or does their backgrounds leave them void of etiquette and decorum that they don’t understand what international relations is supposed to look like. My gut is that Obama is arrogant and racist. His consistent snub of the Queen of England in contrast to his pandering to terrorist nations and their leaders has to do more than make you wonder.

Hi everyone and welcome Lizzy,

Gini,in answer to your question, my wife and I intend to keep the road hot. We’ve just arrived back from Williamsburg, Virginia. We also like the Smoky Mountains a lot; and we hope to visit “the Cove” in North Carolina for a while.
Anyway, I am glad that it looks as if a lot of the hostility present before has subsided. Thanks everyone! There is an issue that I’d like to get all your input on. It is the “Hate Crimes” legislation that is being considered now in Congress. I believe, if the information I have is correct, the Congress tried to pass this legislation before but failed. Now, as I understand, they are trying it again as of April of this year. I have read some info about this issue from the “Traditional Values Coalition”. I must tell you that this does not look like a good piece of legislation to me. Harming someone who is gay is ALREADY a crime, and the behavior should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. However, I believe to attach SPECIAL and additional penalties to such crimes is a slippery slope. It concerns me because I don’t know how broadly they will paint with their definition of a hate crime. For example, I get the impression that another investigation is underway concerning the murder of the abortion doctor. I’m afraid passage of this bill will open up a Pandora’s box, restricting free speech, opinion, etc. What do you all think? Come back, Liz, wherever you are.

Comment by Roy

Hello Everyone,

It’s good to see that some of the hostility present in this blog initially has subsided. Thanks everyone! Now to my opinion (which everyone else is entitled to–ha, ha). I don’t know if Obama snubbed Sarkozy of not. Who knows? I have a feeling that some of these leaders know that much of what they do is for appearances and that they all get tired of it. It could be possible that Obama’s doing something else was a mutual agreement between him and Sarkozy. Honestly, I’m really not sure if I care, anyway. The French haven’t always been the most supportive of us in our fight against terrorism. Oppose the Iraq war if you want, but the reason we’re in Afghanistan is because of September 11th. How many French troops are in Iraq? How much has ANY country in Europe supported us, with the exception of Britain?
As the issue of torture, I believe waterboarding is, in fact, torture; but I don’t care! I believe we should not torture any CITIZEN of the United States; and I believe torture should be OFF LIMITS to just about anyone else in the world–JUST ABOUT. It should NOT be off limits to creeps like Khalid Sheik Mohammed, even if it means AMENDING THE CONSTITUTION to allow it. There IS an amendment process! Think about all the people, including CHILDREN, who died on September 11th; and think about Daniel Pearl and what they did to him. You’ll understand why I don’t feel sorry for him and nuts like him.

Comment by Roy

Sorry everyone,

I meant to ask how many French troops are in Afghanistan? A lot of people aren’t sure if WE should be in Iraq, let alone the French.

Hello again,

I’m not finished yet. I just saw another comment from Salvatore about FOX News. I agree with you, Salvatore. I am a BIG fan of FOX, for reasons I explained earlier. I was so sickened by the behavior of other networks during the election that it completely turned me off. They are TOTALLY biased for the left and TOTALLY prejudicial against traditional, conservative views. They attacked Sarah Palin, her family, and her faith like a pack of hungry wolves.
However, although I am a big FOX supporter, I have caught them a couple of things that should be beneath them. I just watched a segment of Hannity in which he was discussing President Obama and his supposed remarks that America “is not a Christian nation”. I heard Obama’s remarks, and they were not as anti-Christian as Hannity portrayed them. Obama merely was saying that America is a country with many different religious views. We are not JUST a Christian nation. I don’t like it that way. I wish we were; but the fact is that we are not. That is all Obama was saying. Hannity aired ONLY the sentence in which Obama said, “We are not a Christian nation…” and then CUT HIM OFF before the rest of his sentence could be heard. This was a tactic that should be expected to happen on NBC or CNN; but I hoped I’d never see it on FOX.

Comment by M.D.McDonald

but that is neither here nor there- all I can remember from last week- is the fact that every time anyone would start a conversation on here, that person would jump in and intentionaly disrupt by a personal attack. It made it very difficult for anyone here to stay on any subject.
The only difference I saw in Visitor was they only made one single comment aimed at Betty.
Other than that they both made the same angry and dramatic exit.

Comment by M.D.McDonald

I do have to agree with you Roy- It seems that Hannity has been a little over the top lately.
He really needs to calm it down a little. His feelings are ruling his words , more and more .
I hate to see this, because I really like him a lot.

Comment by M.D.McDonald

Roy,
I agree with you on that Hannity thing.
I hate to see that too. Because I really like Hannity a lot.

Comment by Sterling

Thanks very much, Mac, for that observation. I was worried that no one else saw what was going on. Reading over things the last couple days, it seems that there are those who were going to jump on the bandwagon and make a big point that they always thought that their opinions were not welcome here, either. I don’t think that that’s true. Most everyone welcomes everyone else and agrees to simply disagree when it becomes necessary. But who am I to argue the point? It would seem that some are allowed not only to have an opinion, but to defend it when they’re attacked, too, and some are not so fortunate.

I read something yesterday about the greenroom losing contributors because of the atmosphere here. Well, I’m sure that to much relief to many, my contributions will be few if any in the future. I thought that I was as entitled as any to have one, even if it disagrees with another, but I was apparently wrong about that. I will not apologize for my opinions and beliefs, but if anyone was offended by my vigorous defense of them when they were attacked, please allow me to sincerely apologize to have made you uncomfortable or unwelcome here. And please also allow me to apologize for any fires that I may have fueled while defending myself. This is a very nice place to blog. Enjoy.

Last week I was castigated for referring to Obummer as being disengenuous.

When he claims a territory, such as jobs saved, which cannot be defined or measured, and claims it as fact, then I think I can safely say that he is IN FACT being disengenuous. Those that believe him, when he makes these outlandish claims, are ignorant, misinformed or stupid.

Ignorance can be educated. Misinformation can be corrected. Stupidity is permanent.

I hope that no one leaves, Sterling~especially you~~as the flavor of the conversation would be affected if those who are smart, informed, and nice, leave the blog, and you are a huge contributor to that flavor, which people look forward to enjoying on the weekends, when they settle in w/their cupa to watch the best show on Fox~~or so we think anyway? ~~smile~~ Those who are not nice, come, stay a while, and leave usually~again, one must be “smart, informed and nice”, if they wish to really have a very very good time. This last incident is not the first, actually. We have had others who disrupted, and they are gone gone gone, to a site that enjoys that kind of thang~not here, ever, for any reason. We can only hope that the conservative trend in European Parlimentary elections and the Pro-Western victory in the election in Lebanon will carry through for us as well. I think that by then we will see clearly that simply throwing money around will solve anything.

Obummer wants to spend it faster, so expect more waste and corruption. How many millions have been removed from freezers to safer climes since the William Jefferson debacle. At least this was not our tax money, unless it was misdirected foreign aid money finding its way back into the pockets of politicians.

Hello Everyone:
I appreciate all the wise thoughts posted here today. I originally came here to find some of relief here from the constant drum beat against all that I believe in. After 2 or 3 decades of being accused of everything from being a bigot for no other reason than that I am a conservative or being accused of being greedy for no other reason than that I am a conservative or for being narrow-minded for no other reason than that I am a conservative I have had it! I was so glad to not be alone and that there were many accomplished and principaled individuals writing here despite the bad moments.

Comment by Olin L

Hi Gini. And Sterling, Please stay. We will cover your back. We simply must ignore the ignorant, misinformed and stupid. Educating them is way above my pay grade. We don’t have to convert them all, only enough to win.

The thing that concerns me is that there are many factions covered here. True, I believe the Repubs are trying to move away from a conservative base, and this has me greatly disturbed. There are other groups or parties, but they trouble me as well. For example, the Libertarians ran an ACLU lawyer for President. What is up with that?

Lets work together to try find the correct path to take. Some of us are fiscal conservatives, some are social conservatives, and some are both. But moderate we are not.

Congress must be our first target, to control spending and keep from putting the wrong people in the SCOTUS and the appellate courts. The last thing we need are more “laws” created by judicial decree.

Olinl: You in Michigan, too?

Comment by Roy

Olin,

I LOVE your idea about all of us working together! I assure you that if we don’t want our way of life eroded any more, we’re gonna have to get to work–NOW! If we look around, we can see that the liberals don’t have any problem shoving their agendas at US. I intend to start a move in my church in which everyone in the congregation will wear black on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. I got the idea because it appears to me that EVERYONE in liberal circles is appalled about the murder of Dr. Tiller, but NO ONE seems to grieve for the 49 million babies that have been aborted since Roe v. Wade. Many of the babies Dr. Tiller aborted were late term (7 months or more)! Where is the outrage about these lives that were not allowed to even begin? I would love to see something like this ignite peoples’ passions so that their voices will be heard from church to church, then state to state!

Comment by carolynro

Olinl: You have nailed the crux of the problem with the party politics. I am disturbed that our leaders allow themselves to be put in boxes and allow themselves to be convinced that we must appeal to this group or that group. Who cares what the dems think and why do so many cow-tow to what THEY think we should be or what we should believe??? Thus the freedom of some to yell and scream at people like me to get my mind right and join the party of HOPE AND CHANGE which is yet another lie?! Why don’t we refuse to be distracted and to just hone the message of personal responsibility. Everything just takes care of itself if a majority of Americans get back to believing in themselves and not in some free lunch country. Ok,,, calm down… sorry! That is why my last nerve is so raw. It is always “Be a moderate or a liberal. It is so much easier”. “It is the cooler club to be in”. Instead of fighting for smaller government and demanding that people stop expecting a hand out because they have given in.

Comment by carolynro

Yeah, look how the Tea Parties were discounted. We need to work together and combat this notion that it is “just a few digruntled Obama haters” that are mad about the trillions of dollars being wasted. I went to a tea party -all by myself. I was inspired to carry a sign. Obama created this kind of group mentality and so can we. We did it on April 15 but those knuckleheads in DC at the RNC have no clue about what to do!

This is Flyover to some, overlooked or ignored by many, but still hot, humid and politically exciting.

Give me black coffee in the morning with a beauitful sunrise, and a cold beer in the evening with an equally beautiful sunset. Simple life, full of hard work, but good food and wonderful, loving people.

Time to contemplate and observe what is happening, and realizing that I was a part of allowing it to happen. I still think that D. C. is 61 square miles surrounded by reality, in spite of the fact that Chas lives close by.

We now reside in Louisiana, in an area that was once known as “the Neutral Zone”. Flyover to some, overlooked or ignored by many, but still hot, humid and politically exciting.

The only difference that I see between our corrupt politics and other states is that Louisiana never tried to hide it. Doesn’t make it right, just out in the open.

Thoughts for the day.
1. Should lawyers be lawmakers?
2. If someone wanted to commemorate Obummer’s birthplace, where would it be?

North Korea said Tuesday it would use nuclear weapons in a “merciless offensive” if provoked — its latest bellicose rhetoric apparently aimed at deterring any international punishment for its recent atomic test blast.

The tensions emanating from Pyongyang are beginning to hit nascent business ties with the South: a Seoul-based fur manufacturer became the first South Korean company to announce Monday it was pulling out of an industrial complex in the North’s border town of Kaesong.

Good Morning from Flyover. Foggy here this morning. Just the prelude to a hot and humid day.

It is good to have a place to express my conservative views without being accused of treason. Iam a Goldwater conservative of the old school. I am one Texican that voted against LBJ. I am glad that I did because look what “The great Society” brought us.

I do not believe in a “Nanny State”. Every able bodied man should work for a living and to provide for their family. Women that choose to work may do so, and must do so if they are the sole provider for their family.

I believe that everyone has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I will stand with anyone to protect their rights, but I am not their provider, unless I choose to be. Government should not be involved.

Thoughts for the day.
1. Washington, D. C., is 61 square miles surrounded by reality.

Comment by Roy

William,

What do you think President Obama’s stance should be regarding North Korea? Do you think we need more of the same (talk, platitudes, warm and fuzzy hugs, apologies)? Are you thinking what I’m thinking–that we need a president who knows enough about history to recognize the consequences of appeasement? Can ANYONE think of a worse guy to have in the White House now that we have thugs heading governments in Korea, Iran, and Venezuela; and they’re all pushing the envelope to see what they can get away with? Honestly folks, I am concerned about our country!

Comment by Olin L

Let them know that we will be arming Japan with nukes. That should get China moving to put a halt to the antics of North Korea. This is another replay of what they have done before. Don’t send Jimmy “Peace in our time” Carter to broker a deal. Somehow he gets the prize and we get the box.

Comment by Roy

Harvey and OlinL,

You both could not be more correct! OlinL, I remember watching PART of Obama’s inauguration. I commented on this before; but, honestly, it was a little scary. The crowd present responded to him as if he were, somehow, divine ! It is really scary when we think with our emotions instead of our brain. That’s how Hitler got so out of control. That’s how Jim Jones got so out of control. Don’t get me wrong. I do not believe Obama is anywhere close to the evil that Hitler and Jones were. BUT, I am convinced that he was elected–not because his stand on issues made sense; rather, he was elected because too many people in this country–especially young people–get their educations from the television (with fine intellectual programming, such as MTV, Jerry Springer, and those fine, informative “reality shows).
And Harvey, I teach school. Some of my friends recently tore their bulletin boards down as they closed out the school year. I keep telling them to SAVE their bulletin board paper, because before long it will be equal in value to our dollar, given the way our government is now spending and simply PRINTING money.

Death, taxes & Obamacare: Poster contest, Round Two

Comment by carolynro

Roy: I have faith that our last president will be treated kindly by the historians even if present day people are too short-sighted to see it now. And in Obama’s words: “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet”. Those words scare me because our democat governor here in Michigan said those same words a couple of years ago and our unemployment is around 13%, businesses are fleeing the high taxes and loss of any kind of industrial base, and one family leaves here every 12 minutes. No, we haven’t seen anything, yet. Not unless you look back to the 1930’s, that is. I am afraid, very afraid.

Comment by Olin L

There is nothing in this president’s plan that involves private business, unless it is the government buying in. All of the stimulus jobs are in the public sector, and most of the jobs are temporary construction jobs. Sure, suppliers will prosper.

The scary thing is his Youth Corps with only a yet to be stated purpose. Will this be the CO2 Police, determining, however arbitrarily, the amount you should be taxed for your emisions?

Now I hear that the Greenies want to have mandatory meatless days to reduce green house gases. If they would only stop breathing and using up good air, we would not have a problem. Maybe we could mandate that they hold their breath for ten minutes each day.

Carolyn,

Yes, you folks in Michigan are having it rough, aren’t you? And no, “You ain’t seen nothing yet.” I know the auto industry is just a little important to your state. Are you feeling good about Uncle Sam owning about 60 percent of it?
And Clint, I honestly hope you are right; but if you are, the laws of economics are going to have to violate themselves. I don’t know how any government can just print money helter skelter without inflation going up to helter skelter levels. It is interesting that a few days ago, someone who holds the same belief about President Obama as you admitted that President Reagan was “brilliant”; yet, she thought Obama was doing just as good a job as he (Reagan) did. I don’t understand that, because Reagon was a “supply sider”. He did not print money like there is no tomorrow and throw it around in every direction. Jimmy Carter before him was more like Obama. He believed in wild spending; and before too long, we had double digit inflation, double digit unemployment, AND double digit interest rates.
Plus, there are so many areas in which Obama simply scares the daylight out of me. As I told someone earlier, he is simply too generous with my money, too indifferent about social issues, and too naive about terrorists. But, again, I hope you are right and I am wrong. I honestly do!
To your remark that Obama is the best president you can remember, I have to ask: How many do you remember?

Yes, Roy…things have been shaky here for about 6 years now. Familes are being split up as dads (or moms) take jobs in other states. One spouse has to stay here because their Michigan home will not sell. And if it does sell it is at about 50% of what they paid for it. I wish Clint was right. I even made a pledge to give him a chance but he is busting the constitution with all this government bankruptcy stuff and the closing of auto dealers and mandating how much money they can spend on advertising and mandating carbon emmissions at the time the auto companies can afford it. Obama policies remind me of someone who sees a person drowning and instead of calling a lifeguard who know how to save the person, Obama throws him a cement cinder block. We’ve been in business for almost 32 years and I cannot remember hearing about so many people being out of work or seen so many foreclosures in the paper.

All of a sudden, Obummer is a pay-as-you-go guy. Interesting since we heard none of that before the stimulus package. TARP was Bush’s, and yes we should have been pay-as-you-go then, too.

But what is going to be cut to get to universal health care? Defense? Section VIII housing? Government jobs? Social Security and Medicare? Medicaid? Food Stamps? It sounds good, but it is all BS. Just more campaigning by our perennial candidate. Congress won’t cut spending, and Obummer won’t veto.

Comment by Roy

Hey Everyone,

Let’s not let anyone bait us. I refuse to get into another slugfest. It isn’t worth it. Liz if you want to state your opinion, do so. I will not call you stupid, immature, or ignorant. I think if ALL of us can be careful not to use terminology such as “rude”, “crazy”, etc, we’ll all be able to enjoy this blog more. We should even be careful not to apply this terminology to the ideas people express; because, after all, if we say that an idea is “crazy” we also say the person expressing that idea is “crazy”. The way I see it, Capitalists have gutted capitalism, from the over-greedy and dumb who took loans they could not afford in order to build their own wealth, to the very top capitalists leading our biggest banks who ignored risk at all turns in order to create more profit, to our great government leaders, such as Paulson and Bush, Gramm, Chaney, Clinton, etc, who all made some very poor policy decisions.

While you may like to create this ideal Capitalism in your head and pick a select few who are ruining it, the reality is that WE, the most capitalistic society on the globe, have ruined ourselves by short-term thinking and greed. There are no THEY, there is only WE muchacho. Dumb, self-centered, ahort-sighted, fat (not me of course), arrogant and lazy.

Becoming Illegal

(Actual letter from an Iowa resident and sent to his senator)

The Honorable Tom Harkin

731 Hart Senate Office Building

Phone (202) 224 3254

Washington, D. C. 20510

Dear Senator Harkin,

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U. S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill’s provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I’m excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emegency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as “in-state” tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver’s license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college-age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative.

Thank you for your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent,

(hoping to reach “illegal alien” status rather than just a bonafide citizen of the U. S. A.)

Donald Ruppert

Burlington, IA

The last major TV stations that are still broadcasting in analog will turn those signals off Friday and go all digital. And this time, they really mean it.

The original Feb. 17 deadline for the shutdown was delayed by the Obama administration after funding ran out for $40 coupons the government offered to help people buy converter boxes for old TVs.

Now officials say the country is much better prepared than in February, though they still expect some viewers to be confused.

About 3.1 million U.S. homes were unprepared to receive digital signals as of late last month, according to the Nielsen Co. That’s half the number that were unprepared in February, and the number will probably decline further by Friday, as procrastinators get around to replacing old TVs or hooking them up to converter boxes or cable or satellite service.

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA

Dear President Obama:

You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived snd unlike an of the others, you truly scare me.

You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you,

You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.

You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in america and culturally you are not an American.

You scare met because you have never run a company or met a payroll.

You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don’t understand it at its core.

You scare me because you lack humility and ‘class’, always blaming others.

You scarre me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail.

You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.

You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.

However, I admit that I’d like to meet Jon Voight to shake his hand. It takes a lot of courage to be IN Hollywood and yet stand out from it and ABOVE it. He not only went against the grain of liberal Hollywood propaganda; but he simply was bold enough to tell the truth. The truth isn’t welcome in today’s world. We want everyone join the flock the squawk in the “correct” and “enlightened” way.

Good morning all….Liz those cookies would taste great with my coffee right now!
Gini, where are you in Ohio? I’m a buckeye, born in Columbus, partied on High Street, and in fact will be going back to party there in July! (Red Eye Saloon, McGuffy Lane…ahh)
I hope that we can survive the recession we are in long enough for me to collect Social Security, which I have been paying into for 35 years! It’s my turn to retire, I want to be able to sleep at night, knowing the country is in good hands.
I don’t know or care which political party is in power, as I always vote for the guy/gal that “We the people elevate” to the status of “Candidate”, which for the life of me, I’m not sure that “We the People” pick. That is all done at the polical, financial and good ol boy system in place to make sure that the two parties grow wealthy (er). We have to pick from 1 of the handful of people that just “appear from nowhere”, to become a candidate. We the people, need to bring in more common people, who are not part of the political machine currently in place, to run this country and get rid of those 95 year old senators who sit up on the hill making policy that lines their pockets, and their families pockets for years to come. Term limits (4 years max), and new blood in DC will help us keep our democracy alive moving forward into the new century. I am by no means running for office, just want someone that will make real “we the people” decisions, vice “me the people” decisions. Ciao!

Comment by Roy

Liz,

You might be right, at least to a large extent. Capitalists (along with politicians from BOTH parties) have made a lot of irresponsible choices that have thrown us into this recession. Please remember, however, that it was also capitalists who made this country the most prosperous one one earth PRIOR to this recession. Are we about to become a socialist country, I don’t know. I’m getting a little concerned, as I hear that PRAVDA is warning us about leaning in the direction that the USSR did. The CHINESE are warning us about our spending. Roy You make good points…we are a capitalist society, however I am a little concerned that the country is largely run on “Greed”, vice what is good for the people that will follow in our footsteps for future generations (not the good of the people living today who do not want to work 40 hours a week, or pay their bils, or taxes)…..I think everyone should be working and making a living. Making contributions to our society. If they don’t want to work, they will be hungry when winter comes. They should have incentive to work, and giving them food and warmth for free is not conducive to growing our economy or our way of life. Hey if you can’t be a boss, be a worker, just “be”. If your a worker long enough, you will become the boss in due time. Everyone wants everything handed to them. Or they just choose to “take it” (as in the case of the many bankers/CEO’s/executives who took and drove our economy into the viles of the earths crust.) Honesty and integrity are a virture, not an expectation. Ciao.

Got an email today, telling the story of how (some) gas stations are taking advantage of a new trend among consumers. When you buy gas at the pump, and elect not to receive a “receipt” from the printer on the pump, you may miss out on important information. You see the pumps are being rigged to charge a different price that the one advertised. But most people don’t get a reciept, and therefore miss out on the opportunity to see how much they are charged or to prove it. When the price of a gallon of gas for example is $2.25, ten gallons should cost you $22.50. If you use the pump, and it does not accurately reflect the advertised price of gas at the “10 GALLON” mark, then take your reciept and get a refund inside and then take the next step to report them to “YOUR State’s Agriculture Dept” or proper officials which should be “clearly” marked on the pump. Let’s keep the cheaters away from our wallets, as they get enough of our hard earned money through normal legitimate gas sales!

I think that greed is often mistaken for amibition! What is wrong with wanting money? I just don’t get that line of thinking. As a small business we daily praise God for “rich” people to hire us. When we are hired we employ others and we pay taxes that pay for the stuff others get for free. If that is greed, well I wonder what the alternative would be!!!

Comment by carolynro

If the wiping out of greed is the major mission of a president’s agenda, then we are all in trouble. How does a president presume to change human nature, a nature given to all of us by God? I think a presumption that it is upon him to do the work of our creator says volumes about the real Barack Obama. He may have chosen the wrong job if he believes himself to be capable of punishing behavior with the office of the president. Where is that in the constitution? Hmmm?

Roy…..

Conservatives hold to the past and progressives hold to the future.

one seeks wealth creation while the other wants wealth distribution…we need both.

the balance is the present with each balancing the other but for the slow steady evolving of public attitudes.

left unchecked, a mad dash down the progressive path will lead to bankrupcy. (see Sweden)

And that’s why we need a viable 2-party system.

Women’s right to vote

If not for the liberals (progressives), we would be living in the stone age! But, balance is key!

Liz,

I was getting a little worried about you for a second. You almost sounded conciliatory (But don’t worry. I’m not trying to ruin your reputation–ha, ha). Yes, are absolutely correct about much of what you say…AGAIN. We cannot do without liberals. They have pushed through some good stuff. However, I would add that not every liberal agenda has made it through–thank God. What is “liberal” or “conservative” depends on the time in which we live. For example, Lincoln was a Republican; yet he was something of a liberal thinker for his day. Winston Churchill was more conservative; and thank God, he eventually became Prime Minister. Wouldn’t it have been terrible to have left Britain (and for that matter, the WORLD) in the hands of Neville Chamberlain, whose main interest was in placating the enemy. I define myself as a conservative. I do not say no to EVERYTHING; rather I prefer to think of myself as SELECTIVE in what I say ‘YES” to. It seems to me that liberals want to EMBRACE everything. Someone MUST guard the gate to keep out things we do not want and to allow in what we do want.

Roy: Don’t forget it was republicans, not democrats, who passedthe Civil Rights Act as the democrats were still steeped in racial colonializm well into the 1960’s, Nixon passed the first EPA laws, the 19th ammendment was opposed by southern states. The 19th Ammendment was voted this way:
The Senate vote in detail:Vote was taken in both the affirmative and the negative
FOR ADOPTION:
Republicans – 36.
AGAINST ADOPTION:
Democrats – 20.
AGAINST ADOPTION – 25.
Republicans – 8.
Democrats – 17.

Before conservatives get blamed for the shooting at the Holocaust Museum, let me say that we do not condone these events. These shootings, all of them, are tragic. Violence is not the solution, although sometimes force is necessary. There is a difference. But murder is murder is murder, no matter who committed the act. The MSM gave an extremely heavy covering to the shooting of the abortion doctor, while basically dismissing the shooting of an Army recruiter by a home grown terrorist, in Arkansas.

Civil Rights Act of 1964 vote breakdown by party:

House of Representatives:
Democrats for: 152
Democrats against: 96
Republicans for: 138
Republicans against: 34

Senate:
Democrats for: 46
Democrats against: 21
Republicans for: 27
Republicans against: 6

Many more democrats were against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than were republicans

Carolynro. Having lived through approximately 30% of U. S. history, since the revolution, I can also offer some insight, having been born and educated in the South.

In 1960, Southern Democrats were fiscally conservative, for the most part, but extreme segregationists. Not being racist, I joined the Republican party, although I could not vote in most elections because there were no Republican candidates for the general elections. Most political races were decided between Democratic candidates in the primaries.

Because of Little Rock, Selma, the University of Alabama and the murders in Mississippi, gradually people began to come to realize that there was something wrong with this picture. All these issues were perpetuated by Democrats in the name of segregation.

I remember sitting in Leb’s Deli, in downtown Atlanta, in 1960, with a civil rights demonstration on one side of the street and the KKK on the other side of the street. The police wer busy with the civil rights activists and ignored the KKK.

The liberals may not want to claim any of this, but it is the history of the Democratic party in the South, many of whom still vote Democrat because their daddy did. Back then, not many minorities voted the Democratic ticket.

Comment by carolynro

Yeo, OlinL I remember. I also remember the riots in Detroit, Michigan and in Watts, LA. Turbulent times. I remember an assembly at my high school where a black man stood on the stage and fired off a pistol into the air. For all I know it may have been Malcom X as he grew up not far from where I did. I remember going to the cafeteria and having the football team standing all along the walls in case the handfull of black kids decided to riot. I remember the big 5″ Afro picks that the black guys had stuck their hair to intimidate us. It did not occur to many of us that we had done anything ourselves to deserve to be intentionallly frightened by any group but we were given our lesson of Black Power just the same. And there is still a former KKK Imperial Wizard in the Senate today -Robert Byrd.

What I don’t understand is why minorities still vote democrat when the promises made to them back in 1964 by the democrats are still in the to do” checklist!

More advancement in civil rights were made under Nixon than was ever made by JFK or LBJ.

Against Environmental issues? Care to guess who formed the EPA? If you didn’t guess Nixon you are wrong.

Who created the National Park Service and System? Teddy Roosevelt.

Who racially integrated the Military? Oh, that would be Eisenhower.

And the one thing they all have in common is they were Republicans.

But some people just can’t get over their hate and continue to spout off lies that are provably false.

Exactly Roy….you can’t lump them all into one mold. When I listed what they were “against” that was initially. Today, however, we have a big problem. All of the moderate Republicans have been voted out or given positions within the Obama administration. All that’s left to work with are the extreme right-wing “obstructionists”, who just want to say NO to everything. A one-party system will not work, but that’s what we got now! I really want to see some brilliant, charismatic Republican take control of the party….but who??? Maybe one will come out of the woodword before 2010….I really hope so!

Very good Olin….you know your history.

Didn’t you ever hear Condi Rice’s story? Blacks were given “literacy” tests in the southern states back in the 60’s, and guess what….they all failed! (not really though) They were basically not permitted to vote. Condi Rice’s dad went to the courthouse and registered as a Republican with no problem, and he remained Republican his whole life because someone there allowed him to do that…someone who was not racist….very hard to find down there in the 60’s. My mom told me stories about what the South was like back then, and it was scary. Hard to believe those things happened in this country.

BTW, carolynro…..I don’t think much of anything good came out of the Nixon years! He resigned, remember? Watergate…..what did that cost us? Not to mention escalating the Vietnam war….and the list goes on and on! However, to his credit, he did start to break the ice with China.

Just my opinion! I judge each President individually….fair and balanced!

It is very confusing…..we can’t always equate “liberal” with Democrats and “conservative” with Republicans because that’s not always the way it was. Democrats were the “conservative” party of the 1960’s for sure. I used the word “progressive” instead of “liberal” because it means “forward thinking” instead of “looking back”! I just wanted to clarify that. Anyway, we need a mix of both for our government to work properly…and we need to lose all the partisan anger.

That’s why I’m “Independent” rather than joining either party right now. If I ever agree right down the line (which I doubt), then I will join a party.

My party has travel a difficult path when it comes to the early 60’s and civil rights. JFK, and Humphrey, along with some progressive republicans (along with many others) thankfully wrestled the power away from the democratic southern bloc and forced through legislation that changed the nation forever…at least according to the law. It’s true the 37 percent of the democrats voted against, as opposed 20 percent republicans. After Johnson was done signing the bill he was meant to have lain down his pen and said “we have lost the south for a generation”. And no truer words were ever spoken. Obviously, I am not proud of those who opposition of the civil rights act, I am proud of JFK and all the other brave people that went against the powerful bloc and stood up for what was right and not the political easy thing to do. My party is stronger for that time in history, even though we lost the south for a generation… ;-)

And in a funny twist Nixon DID start the EPA…… LOL Just goes to show what party actually DID expand government.. LOL… just ribbin ya Chas ;-) …..Actually Nixon was concerned about our environment, for that I give him cuddos. namaste’

Anyone who still questions Obama’s birth certificate is into conspiracy theories. He would not be Pres. of the US right now if there was any question about it. It’s funny my daughter was the person who first brought Barrack Obama to my attention 5 years ago, She wasn’t even of voting age then… (apart from his convention speech) I hadn’t given him much thought. We all knew and expected Hillary to run and win the nomination. I told her then, no way in Heck will he be our nominee. But as the years went by and I started reading more and more polls and listening to speaker after speaker telling me the tides were changing in the political areana and the angry “man” mentality was waning, religious right were becoming disenchanted and were becoming a more diverse bloc of voters and not single issue ONLY voters… and the most important thing I noticed was my own personal friends and neighbors who weren’t necessarily “political” commenting to me about how they were “tired” of the bickering… It was only then did I begin to think Barrack had a chance to beat Hill. She represented the “old” ways, and her time had come and gone.. All the exit poll data points to a new direction… I just read a think tank essay written for poly sci wonks outlining new directions campaign managers should take in the 2010 cycle… All saying the same thing… So we shall see, it will be interesting.

Comment by Liz

That’s interesting lori…I was never really very political until all hell broke loose last fall! I noticed the reaction to Obama in Europe last summer and it was then that I started to take notice. I knew Europe did NOT like Bush! I didn’t really follow their campaigns until the very end when it was down to Hill and him. I was glad when he won because I didn’t think Hill would have a chance against McCain. Looking back now, maybe she could have won! LOL

I heard today that the climate is ripe now for a third party — grassroots maybe, to crop up with the Repubs in such disarray. I wouldn’t be surprised. Maybe that’s what we need.

Comment by carolynro

“Today, the animating spirit of the Republican Party is exactly the same as it was at its founding: free minds, free markets, free expression, and unlimited opportunity. Leading the organized opposition to these ideas 150 years ago, just as today, was the Democratic Party — in the form, then as now, of politically correct speech; a preference for government control over individual decision making (and of course slavery was the most extreme form of government control); government control of enterprise; and an insistence on seeing people as members of groups, rather than as individuals. It was that refusal to see the unique value of every individual that
was at the heart of the Democrats’ support of slavery.”

Comment by lori

Yes Liz, I have read that too. I mentioned that to a couple of fellow bloggers on here a while back. In reality though I don’t see how it could happen. The money isn’t there and the laws are stacked against that. The goal is to make the margins of your party as wide as possible…Politics is a simple game of addition. I have no doubt the republican party will come back and come back strong. All parties go through this after a big loss. I am sure someone will emerge out of the ashes… Im not so sure it will be in time for 2012 (at least I hope not..lol)

Liz, you mention people liking our president in Europe, we recently went to Greece and my youngest wore an Obama shirt one day and at one point in the day she literally had a line of people waiting to take their picture with her and her shirt! She wanted to see if she got the same reaction in China so she and her sister tried it again the day she visited the Great Wall and it pretty much was the same reaction. For good or for bad, depending which way you lean, you have to admit he is popular.. lol

Comment by Liz

Well, we’ll see how Obama turns things around, or not. In the meantime the Repubs have time to come up with someone viable. Time will tell. Have a great night Lori.

Carolyn, how many amendments have been made to the constitution? Times change. Sometimes we need gov’t control and sometimes we don’t. When we mess up capitalism, it has to be fixed. At least Democrats don’t want to take away freedoms, and rights! (not like they did in the 1960’s, which is why the South turned Republican)

I’m for looking forward, not back. We are now in uncharted territory, so we’ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out.

Comment by Olin L

Hi folks. I am back from church. If the earlier levity offended anyone, I sincerely apologize. I just felt it was time to reverse some of the frown wrinkles.

We can go on and on about history, Repubs vs Dems, liberals vs conservatives, and not solve anything or change minds. The important thing is to have an open mind to the issues at hand.

Should we spend 2 Trillion (with a T) with no method of paying it back except by excessively high taxes in the future? Should we have a nationalized health care system, run by the government?
Does the government have the legal right to tell anyone how much money they can make? Should the government be in competitive business? What will happen to interest rates? Will there be inflation? What will happen with unemployment? How many more businesses will move overseas?
How long can we survive without our own fuel supplies? What happens when farms stop production due to lack of fuel and fertilizer? How will goods be delivered without a viable transportation system?
Most people think in terms of their own little environment and don’t get the big picture. It goes far beyond the 4 Bs (Berkley, birkenstocks, bicycles and brandy).

The only business the government ran was the post office, without competition and still ran it in the ground.

Comment by Olin L

Believe it or not folks, most of the racists in the South are still Democrats. I don’t know how many people I talked to before the election that said they would not vote at all because they could not vote for a black man and voting for a Republican was a sin worse that death (still reliving Reconstruction).

Comment by Olin L

And Gini and Carolynro. Some of the most vile racial language I ever heard was while I was living in Ohio and a black family (Ohio State Assistant Coach, I believe) moved into our lilly white neighborhood. I hope things are different now, although African-Americans in many ares do not play well with others. So it goes both ways.

Comment by Liz

Well, Olin, I can relate but my story is quite different. My mother’s house is in an upscale neighborhood and she got several new black neighbors. She says they are the friendliest neighbors she ever had, and a few of them helped her out when she needed it a few times. She’s had them over for dinner and she’s been to some of their great “barbecues”! LOL I guess everyone is different. I don’t know what kind of neighborhoods you and Carolynro lived in, but it sounds like there was trouble in the community maybe??? Good luck with that.

I hope your “church” doesn’t teach intolerance. If so, maybe you need to look for another church.

Comment by carolynro

Yeah- who cares what happened in the past except when it can be used in an argument to support one’s feelings of superiority?
All your “what if ” questions are right on, Olinl. Many folks are still cushioned from the economic condition we are in today. The worst is yet to come as the tentacles of Obamaism begin to reach deeper into our daily lives. My kid who works in a restaurant overhears conversations by Obama supporters who are now regreful of their vote for him and are scared _hitless about how quickly they have become fearful for their formerly safe jobs. People are beginning to get over their euphoria of their “Anybody but Bush” vote. Now polls show a majority of voters have more confidence in repuplicans to handle the economy. Too bad, so sad. Hopefully it is not too late to undo the pillaging.

Comment by Liz

It must be exhausting to be so angry! I can’t imagine. You can thank your Republicans for the mess we’re in and stop trying to pass the buck where it doesn’t belong, and you know it.

OK. go on with your Obama bashfest! Have fun.

Olinl: Your experiences and mine date back over 30 years ago. Things were much different back then compared to today. Enlightenment is a process. We cannot change what was going on back in the 1950’s, 60′, 70’s. Just as you wouldn’t mock people for not having Ipods before they were even invented, you cannot mock people or disparage their life experiences for having grown up in different socialogical times. My parents grew up in Detroit when hudnreds of thousands of Blacks (as they were called back then and worse) moved north to take auto jobs. People in the north were afraid of the unfamiliar and reacted with their fear. I eventaully began to gradually question their attitudes and finally as an adult spoke to them about their biases and tried to teach them that they should not look at race in every situation. It was hard to show them that it was not cool to refer to people using race as an adjective. But, many of us think history began on the day we were born and only repeat what they have been told compared to those of us who are able to tell about what we actually saw.

Good Morning MD.

Sal,
He was over the top for sure, and it really doesn’t matter who the “girl” or “woman” was he might have been referring to. A not nice thing to say abt any of it, or the ball player either. Everyone should be offended by anyone who advocates this sort of thing, regardless. He is leaning heavily on his comedy creds, however, this is of course, not “good comedy” at all…we do have our share of those that would be totally inappropriate, don’t we? A free society does have this to put up with, but as a consumer, there are remedies at hand. One might feel compelled to contact the companies that pay for his show, hum? The dollar bill, tho diminished of late, still is a powerful tool. :)

Comment by Gini

Sal, It is now RAINING!!! I guess this means I should do a few household tasks? YIKES! lol There certainly are plenty of those waiting to be done. :)

Comment by Liz

Gini, do you want your freedom of speech taken away? Do all jokes have to be “approved” by the party? Sounds like communism to me!

Comment by Salvatore

Liz the truth hurts dont it, and there is no fair game when it comes to kids and it doesnt matter which kid Letterman was talking about, he is a LOSER, and should be fired.

Comment by Liz

Oh c’mon…..she set herself up to be the butt of all the jokes on SNL. She even made fun of herself with that “rap” that Amy did while she was sitting right there! Man, you people don’t have enough to complain about do you?

Of course Sal, the flowers will LOVE IT! So I am actually ok with it all. The pool won’t get put up, however, boohoo. Lots of summer left to go, however, so it’s okey dokey. lol :) A good day to do a few tasks inside, watch a good movie, or read a good book, hum??? YIKES!!! The skylite is OPEN!!!! brb….

Good Morning from Flyover.

The only reason that I made that comment about racism was to point out that racism was not and is not just a Southern thing. True, we did have the Segregationist South, but that is history as far as the law is concerned. It is still practiced to a certain extent everywhere simply by where people choose to live and send their children to school.

As far as tolerance is concerned, Jesus taught us to LOVE our neighbors. He did not say that we had to LIKE them or be oblivious to their sinfulness. Judge not, but do not cast your pearls before swine.
If you are not accepted there, shake the dust of that place from your feet.

Don’t mind me I am not staying, I have to go to work. I only signed in so I will have the e-mails of the post of the day. I can read through them when I get back home later. And I will. And I plan on forwarding certain ones in a complaint, concerning the constant personal remarks that are only meant to be disruptive of the blog.
In the meantime I would suggest that you good people just try to close your ears to such attempts.
And try your best to just not engage or reply to anyones attempt to distract you from good conversations.
I like it here, and I think everyone here has tolerated enough disruptive post, and hateful and personal attacks.

I’ve got a few yrs on you Carolyn…but the journey has been interesting, hasn’t it? One does defer to that experience, as well as a good dose of just good ol’ fashioned history, to help mold one’s life, both politically and privately. I am very comfortable with it all, actually, and wait for 2010, the first moment of “truth”, after this disastrous moment of no transparency at all, and a government gone amuck, for sure. It is coming up quick, which is why #44 is still on the campaign trail, on the back of the American citizen, and their tax dollars, of course. I wonder if his methods will persuade people, or cause them to pause? We are abt to find out, aren’t we. lol :)

At least he is defending Israel…..not a Jew-hater, so he must be a Jew. The Jews are not yet sure how Israel will fare with Obama as president, and they like the way Bush defended Israel. Dad is still asleep, so I have a moment of quiet, b/4 he is up and things start to percolate around here. lol :) Am enjoying the moment, the conversation, and my coffee of course….and mini pastries bght for an event last nite. YUM! lol :) Nice treat!!! lol :) I’ve about got them all eaten by now!!!!!!!! :)

Comment by DogOnCrack

Obarfbag is less than 5 months in office and he’s already solidified his status as the worst POTUS this nation has ever known. This alone makes him the greatest gift the Dems have ever given to the right. Good luck in 2012! It will be just like 1980 since the dystopia we’ll have reached by that point will mirror the late 70s at best.

Good morning Olin…no offense taken. After all, everyone has had a bad experience, if they have lived long enough. There are plenty of “bad guys” out there to go around, and when economic crisis happens, they do come out of the woodwork, or so this citizen has observed over the yrs, and was told to me by the “wise old ones” who have been so much a part of my life. They were correct, yet again, as we see a heightened number of these kind of events. They will crawl back in their hole of course, when this passes, and it will pass, one way or the other. lol :)

Good morning Erik…we wait to see if that observation is correct, don’t we. The citizen can be jerked around only so much, b/4 the hammer falls on the heads of those that are responsible for it all…we hope 2010 is the start of an awakening and a turn back to what we recognize as a representative republic, as apposed to a government run country. Gini, I base my conclusions on logic, practicality, common sense and, most importantly, the lessons of history.

I’m normally not a gambling man by religion but I’d still bet that farm that I’m right.

My predictions usually are.

Comment by carolynro

Hi Mac, Dog, Gini! It is going to rain here too which is fine with me so I don’t have to buy water for the three lawns I have!

Funny how Rush is called a bigot homophobe racist for things he has never even said even though he is an entertainer but a guy like Letterman, who is also an entertainer, and gets a pass for his awful “jokes”! “Things that make you go HMMM?”

Comment by Olin L

There is no place for filth like that spouted by Letterman, or any other comedian in the name of comedy. Personal attacks like that show a total lack of class and those that eat that sort of thing up are no better. Quayle was attacked because he couldn’t spell. Now everything has to be personal and hurtful not only to those being attacked, but to their families and friends also.

Caroline Kennedy withdrew from being considered as senator for the reason that the attacks were too personal. How loud would the outcry be from the MSM if Letterman had said the same things about her and her family?

Comment by Salvatore

CBS should be outraged that Letterman attacks a 14 year old girl,
whats wrong with this Network, they should of FIRED this LOSER by now.

Comment by carolynro

OlinL: You don’t to worry about Caroline Kennedy. Democrats can do everything including and up to killing someone and they can continue with their lives. But, again, look how hard they all go after Rush all the time for no reason except that calls them out on issues.

Comment by carolynro

They will circle the wagons around him, Sal. They always do.

Comment by Gini

There is no place for that humor, and we do have the power to say just that, with our dollar bills, hum? He is an example, however, of the reason why rapists and sex offenders in general, are not put in jail forever and ever. He feels perfectly free to state in no uncertain terms, the “women” of any age, deserve what they get, hum? So, we do not wonder at all, that our judicial system has a hard time with it all. The police carefully find these people, arrest them, and they are loosed upon society by a judicial system that also seems to think sex crimes are not criminal at all. An observation, of course, after many yrs of watching offender after offender, let loose time and time again. His jokes reflect this clearly, and should be shunned by everyone…

Comment by Salvatore

Your right Carolyn, so right.

Comment by lori

Good morning all , I thought the Letterman joke was an equal opportunity party bash and not a particular funny one. However, if Plain ever wants to be taken seriously as a canadate, she has to stop reacting to every little joke and comment made about her on comedy shows. She has to project a more professional above the fray “stateman” like prosona. Dust it off her shoulder and move on.. She needs to fire her advisors. If she ever hopes to become president she needs to broaden her appeal and not remain a minority far right player, there simply isn’t enough votes to win her the white house. And as much as she “energizes” the far far right, she makes a ton of money for the far far left and the net gain is zero.

Comment by carolynro

I remember when Oelephantears instructed the press to not mention his ears because he is so sensitive about it. LOL

Comment by Olin L

Here is my answer, so listen up!!!

The airlines, after 9/11 were in dire straits since people were to reluctant to fly and so many regulations were coming down that the airlines needed help to stay afloat. Anything less would have meant a total disruption of our transportation system.

GM, on the other hand, created their own mess, and should have been allowed to collapse before any of OUR money was wasted there. The bailout there was in total surrender to UAW.

Those of you that are surviving on entitlements look upen them as the government’s money. The government does not have any money, it is our money. At least not yet, until they start selling cars on the White House lawn and the capitol grounds.

Comment by Gini

Erik…I consider your opinion very worthy, and concur. I think the politicians have miss read the citizen, in general, and will pay heavily in 2010, and again in 2012. lol :) Miss deeds will certainly be reflected in both those elections, as the citizen is not quite as stupid and uninformed as they have been thought to be. i.e. look at all the informed and smart people on this one blog. Amazing and comforting to this citizen, who already knew this, but it’s nice to have one’s view point reinforced, of course. :)

Comment by carolynro

Well said, OlinL. Once again a measured and truthful account of what happened.

Comment by lori

Caroline Kennedy withdrew from the race because her kids went to her one night and ask her to quit because they didn’t like the person she had become as a canadate. Truth is she was a horrible politician. She can do more good working her charity from the comfort of the private sector.

Comment by Gini

Olin,
I am positive they will be in trouble with code enforcement if they put any vehicle on their lawn!!!!!!! ~~laughing~~ oh my my my!!! hahaha!!! But, you are right, of course, so again, 2010 can’t come fast enough. We will see then, if anyone was really paying attn, hum? or is it just the few here, that have a clue? ha! Prob not…one hopes. lol :)

God bless you.

Comment by Liz

Olin, GM was a victim of the bad economy just as the airlines were “victims” of 9-11, even though the airlines were not doing very well before that. We even bailed out their pension funds! If I didn’t know better I’d think Bush was a Democrat! He was so “big business” friendly! However, he was NOT THERE for the victims of Katrina, was he? Nooooooooo…..too much money was spent in Iraq to rebuild New Orleans……but that a whole other “can of worms”!

Comment by lori

Liz, yes indeed the government has a history of bailouts… On both sides …… Railroads, 1979 auto industry (remember good ole Lee ? ) just to name a couple.

The only difference is which party was in power at the time.

Well that and a difference of perception. One side perceives there was no choice for our country but to step in and do something, the other side believes there was no crisis to begin with… Simple as that

Comment by Liz

So typical lori….they only see one side. I really do try look at both sides. There are none so blind as those who will not see!

BY the way, there are still billions of Katrina dollars that haven’t been spent, and FEMA is selling house trailers for $1.00.

Get over it. Natural disasters should not be politicized as if Washington was totally oblivious to what was happening. Review the time line from the time Katrina became a hurricane.

Look at local and state responses before you start blaming Bush.

Olin… :) ~~laughing~~ oh my my my! I guess it was “bombed” by nature, hum? As the old soldier observed. IF you live below sea level, perhaps one might expect the sea to be a prob along the way?? lol :) YIKES! A terrible terrible event by anyone’s measure, badly reported and badly handled by the power base in New Orleans, hum? That, sir, IS a fact, and CAN be substantiated by anyone interested in the truth at all, and is indeed, looking at this event w/an open mind to that end, hum? lol :)

Comment by Sharynn

Know its not sunday but I’m bewildered by , dealerships closing as they are near each other and in COMPETITION. Is this going to trickle down to the Gas stations on 4 corners- Supermarkets across the Street from one another–McDonalds, Wendy’s and Burger King all in a row- Home Depot and Lowwes across the highway etc……….

Comment by Gini

And that doesn’t even consider the bad behavior of the Governor, hum? Also a fact, and can be substantiated also. lol Of course, we watched in horror, and then in disbelief over the reporting. Horrible, and an embarrassment I think. I am really sorry that I never got to New Orleans, b/4 this disaster. :)

Comment by Gini

Good morning Sharynn…that would be the huge question, and the fear of an over reaching government, pretending it has a clue abt any of it at all. Katrina would be an excellent example of the capacity of the government to run anything at all, and that doesn’t even cover Fla, or SC, where the disasters fr earlier storms have not yet been handled completely. I am on vacation!!! YEA! lol :)

Comment by Olin L

Good Morning Gini. Good Morning Sharynn. Good Morning Sal. Good Morning Dog (Erik).

I am reassured to know that there are a few others out there that don’t believe that George Bush is directly responsible for every event, natural and manmade that occurred during his terms. He gets credit for all of the bad and none of the good. I guess they think low taxes and a booming economy were serendipity.

Those that think that way should apply the the same logic to “The Grate One”.

Comment by Gini

We wait patiently Olin, for the government to be held responsible for the bad behavior by all concerned on both sides of the aisle. In the atmosphere of today, that will be slow coming, but will come eventually. In the mean time, we all try to follow what is happening, by resourcing many many different places to get all the info we can, so as to get a handle on what is happening. Of course, when AFI takes off, that is in the news, so easily tracked by everyone, hum? ~~laughing~~ as we watch our tax dollars go down the tubes, while I am wondering how long I must work, b/4 it is equitable to consider retiring. I do, however, love my job, so am actually not considering that right now. lol :)

Comment by Olin L

I do not agree with everything the Repubs stand for, but I am still a proud member of the party of “No”.

If some of you think there is no plan there, Think Again!!!!

1. No more reckless spending.
2. No more bailouts.
3. No more entitlements.
4. No amnesty.
5. No more abortions.
6. No more same sex marriages.

And the list goes on. Call me intolerant? You bet!! And I am most likely to remain that way for the remainder of my time on this planet.

Comment by Gini

It is, however, mind boggling, to see how people can be persuaded to think one thing, when the facts challenge it all. But, so it goes, in the land of “As the Government Turns”, starring yada yada yada, and the gang of thugs, associated, hum? Whew! lol :) :) :)

Comment by Gini

In other words Olin, you do support the constitution and the representative republic that has worked all these many yrs? Me too. lol :) 2010 will see if there are others that also appreciate we are a great and noble country, and do not want the huge boot of government telling us how to live our lives. :)

The corruption of the state of Lousiana knows no bounds. Sorry Olinl. Bush may have been late to go to the site of the disaster but to blame him for the ex-governor’s stubborn refusal to evacuate is ridiculous and patently unfair. Bush called her and begged her to pull the trigger but he hatred for Bush caused her to refuse to take his advice. Talk about partisan!!!! Nagan and the governor were so incompetent that it was they who did not get the people out. Wasn’t it William Jefferson (D-La) who comendeered military transport to go fetch the bribary money out of his freezer during the aftermath of Katrina? Oh, yeah we aren’t supposed to point out anything that would make the dems look bad!

Comment by Liz

Oh, let’s blame it all on the Governor…..good idea! They had 2 days notice to get out….whoever stayed knew what could happen to them. Some couldn’t afford to leave. You are so heartless.

Comment by Sterling

Thank you Carolyn, for pointing out some of the forgotten facts in the Katrina situation. It always makes me chuckle when Katrina gets brought up time and time again by Bush-haters. Why is it that the Republican president still takes a beating for a natural disaster, and nothing is ever mentioned about the crooked Liberal Democratic mayor of the city of New Orleans, or the crooked Liberal Democratic governor of the state of Louisiana?

But then again a good Democrat never lets a little thing like facts get in the way, now do they?

Comment by Gini

Carolyn…there you go again with facts. lol But, can be substantiated of course, and is a matter of record. lol :) A small thing having to do with STATES RIGHTS, I think? lol hummmm??? lol :)

I think we should all sue the Bush admin. for gutting our IRA’s, devaluing our homes, bailing out the banks. Why should we pay the banks what we owe them? We bailed them out. Let’s call it even Steven! It’s only fair. If we could do that, maybe they would stop working for “special interests” who pad their pockets, and start working for us — we the people! We trusted them to make good fiscal decisions and they let us down, bigtime!

I’m having trouble posting this – I wonder why!

Back from the field. The hay is fluffed and will be baled this P.M.

Carolynro. You are so right on the Louisiana politics, although I believe we are making progress in the correct direction (Note: I did not say right direction for fear of being called an extremist). Politics in Louisiana has always been an exciting game (Sort of like Forrest Gump – “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get”), but, yes, openly corrupt. Unlike most places, where politicians try to hide it.

It does, however, seem that history to some is a moving target. Overlook the truth and look for the conspiracy.

Enjoy your vacation. Maybe we can have some fresh baked cookies, hot out of the oven?

Out the door again. I need to pick blueberries before the birds get them all.

I made the decision not to retire several years ago, when I gave up the suit.

As long as I am fortunate enough to have diligent, honest and hard working employees, I will continue to work as long as the mind and health hold out. One never knows how long that will be. I had a battle with the big “C” several years ago, but clean since.

As long as you are on vacation, how about some fresh baked cookies, fresh out of the oven?

I have to go pack the car for the BW. She is off to a conference, and leaving me to my own devices. Maybe I can have 2 beers this evening.

Hey Everyone,

It’s been awhile but it’s good being back. Carolyn, I love the way you think regarding “greed” v. ambition. Regardles of what terrminology we use, it is what prompts the economy to grow. It is NOT a CITIZEN OF THE WORLD mentality. It is not a SHARE THE WEALTH mentality. I applaud people who give to charity and help the needy. However, it is a mistake for the government to FORCE all of us to do it. It should be done from the heart–VOLUNTARILY. If not, it causes resentment and reduces incentive for people to work hard . I also love the points you made about the historical role of Republicans in civil rights, etc.
And Liz, I agree with you AGAIN at least to some extent. We do need a two party system. In fact you might be surprised to know that I, like you, am an INDEPENDENT. And you will REALLY be surprised to discover that I believe we need LIBERALS. Without folks who want to press the accellerator, we sit still and never move to where we want to go. But, we also need folks who will step on the brakes. And, staying with the analogy, I would much rather ride in a care with good brakes but no accellerator (admittedly it would be a boring ride) than in a car with a mighty accellerator and no brakes. It could be argued that Hitler was a liberal. He was, after all, all about CHANGE. He certainly wasn’t a conservative; if he had been, there would have been no desire on the part of Germans to change the leadership they had before him

Good morning Roy and Sharynn… :) Letterman is a bit of a “dirty ol’ man” isn’t he??? YIKES! lol Oh well…there are a few out there for sure, so one decides not to “participate” in things that dishonor everyone, I think? I prob should write a few letters, perhaps, in regard to this one issue of the attack on women in general, and the children especially. Roy, well said, as usual. lol I agree. lol :)

Olin…I am busy eating the pastries left over fr the event of last nite. Still haven’t polished them all off yet, so maybe cookies for later on in the day, if the sun really doesn’t come out? Dad would prob like that a lot, as well as the grandson, who is here keeping me company and watching a bit of t.v. w/his great grandpa. lol Lucky kiddo! :)

Of course, Olin, it is a fact that the self employed, work the hardest, and leave little time for themselves in the vaca area. WHAT…no dental insurance and free orthodontic braces to ALL kids. !!! In Universal Health, wouldn’t the government be controlling WHAT AMOUNT a clinic or medical center will receive ( such as Medicaid etc does now), and wouldn’t that put more restraints on their operating budget which in effect, will control salaries for Nurses, med techs, PA’s etc. ?????

Health care is very important. As an RN Ive listen to patients wondering how they will pay for this and that. However, how is government going to FORCE doctors to see an additional 50 patients a day etc, to cover the needs of the people. Its NOT going to happen!!

I must apologize for interjecting facts but I cannot for the life of me find a way to blame George Bush for people living below sea level. The State of Louisiana was given several billion dollars many years ago to build Cat 5 levees but instead of building the levees they spent the money on building a glorious State House. And I believe that millions of FEMA dollars are still sitting in a fund for re-building efforts but so many people decided not to go back. Perhaps the new governor will make sure the levees are built as they should have been and not spent on self engrandizing pet projects:
‘By Janet McConnaughey
March 23, 2007
Decades of mistakes – some as basic as not knowing the elevation of New Orleans – led the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to believe its levees and floodwalls would protect the city from a storm as strong as Hurricane Katrina, a report released March 21 concludes.
The report said the errors date to the original plans in 1965, which relied on land height measurements from 1929. Because the city had sunk over the years, the plans called for levees that were 1 to 2 feet too low.
“This mistake was locked in” for continuing construction by a policy adopted in 1985, even though scientists knew how fast New Orleans was sinking, the report said. By the time Katrina hit, the levees were as much as 5 feet too low. “

We do know that dental and eye care are not on the top of any list at all, ever, so one wonders what on earth will happen if left to the devices of government to handle any of it. lol :)

Again, facts that can be substantiated, and another look at the folly of government, and why politicians shouldn’t rule the day, perhaps. :)

Comment by carolynro

“Louisiana’s politicians are no different from those of other states: they want to get as many federal dollars as they can and spend them on projects that will have the biggest economic impact. They judged the risk of a Category 4 or 5 hurricane taking a direct path over New Orleans sufficiently low as to permit the money to go to projects that were seemingly more urgent. Obviously, they guessed wrong–with tragic consequences.

“Louisiana got tons of federal money that could have easily been earmarked for flood control and chose, reasonably enough, to generate jobs to boost its poor economy. I don’t blame Mary Landrieu for that. It would be nice, though, if she would refrain from going on television with tears in her eyes and threatening to punch the president. ”
From the various Times-Picayune stories that Paul and others have linked, it’s clear there is plenty of blame to go around covering state and local politicians of both parties for several decades. Too, for reasons that are as yet unexplained, the Army Corps of Engineers–one of the few government institutions that are generally considered incredibly competent and above moral reproach–seems to have made numerous reinforcing blunders that worsened the situation. “

Comment by Gini

Ron :) another reason for the “brakes”, hum??? Carolyn…no plans, except the trip to Dayton…I’m thinking Monday, but must chk and see if that’s a good moment. Other than that, I plan to enjoy the moment, dad, the grandkids, maybe get a few tasks completed? lol :) Ha! Well…maybe? lol :)

Comment by carolynro

“But there’s little doubt that Louisiana’s politicians–and, thus, indirectly, its electorate–bear more blame than most. They got more money than any other state and used it for job creation rather than public safety time and again. The governor and the mayor failed to get the city evacuated in time and actually encouraged people who had evacuated to come back just in time to be trapped by the surging floodwaters.

Ultimately, it is those decisions that are most blameworthy because we can only speculate as to whether better-built levees would have saved those lives but we know that people who evacuated the city for higher ground escaped the disaster.”

Hey Everyone,

What you folks have been talking about (the Czars, the countless programs, the mindboggling amount of money we are spending, the lax attitudes about social issues, the naivete’ about terrorists, etc. etc., etc.) is exactly why , for this present time at least, we need CONSERVATIVE thought to rise up. There definitely isn’t anything wrong withe Obama’s accellerator. The Obama train is careening toward “God only knows where” at a hundred miles per hour. If conservatives don’t STOMP on the brakes, this runaway train is gonna jump the tracks. Yes, Liz. We do need liberals…occasionally. At the present time, however, they are in much too plentiful supply. We DESPERATELY need some CONSERVATIVES. We need some brake stompers!

How about you? What are you up to today?

The word “tolerance” is a word that can also be used anyway you want, depending on what your agenda is. Freedom of speech also sounds nice (and it is Constitutionally protected), but should we have “BLANKET” freedom of speech? If that’s the case, why are slander and libel laws in place? Letterman is feeling the heat now, and he should. I do not understand how ANYONE can argue for UNCONDITIONAL freedom of speech and yet support the “Hate Crimes Legislation” before Congress now. I have done some reading on this ”great idea” being pushed by liberals in Congress. They want to heap on additional penalties for “hate crimes” (such as murder of a homosexual). Murder is already illegal. It already has stiff punishments attached to it (the death penalty in many states). It is silly and unfair to add an additional and SPECIAL punishment to the murder of a homosexual that the murderer of someone straight would not receive. In addition, there is a danger that the freedom of speech of people who disagree with the homosexual lifestyle could be impaired. If, for example, a minister says that he disagrees with abortion or homosexuality, and some whacked out nutcase murders an abortion doctor or homosexual, the minister could be prosecuted! We saw a little of this already when liberals blamed Bill O’Reilly for the murder of Dr. Tiller. O’Reilly should thank God that the “hate crimes” bill hasn’t passed yet. O’Reilly can not help that crazy people are out there.

Bush is blamed for it allllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!

Who else can we blame…..he was a liberal disguised as a conservative. I’m not happy about bailing out the airlines and the banks. I’m mad as hell that my IRA got gutted and my house lost value. Can we get our reps to stop working for “special interests” who pad their pockets, and start working for us — we the people! We trusted them to make good fiscal decisions and they let us down, bigtime! I think everyone here has misplaced anger….that’s for sure!

Comment by chas

Roy,

It is my experience that the daffynition of moderate Republican is someone that votes with the Democrats, ie Snowe, collins and Specter. According to liberals of course. While open minded ‘moderates in the Dem Party, well, let’s just say aren’t treated so well.

I find it odd that people forget that the economy was doing well until the Dems too over. I find it odd that all the blame falls on Bush, when the Congress under either Party were warned about the problem and ignored it. Didn’t Bush and McCain both warn of trouble?

I always find that people that are unable to do what they say, aren’t really trustworthy and best not paid attention to. Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you. Th. Jefferson

I’m sure you’ve been told that. I’m not going to rehash any of what you just mentioned because we’ve been thru it all before, many times. It does no good to talk to you because you just don’t get it and I’m afraid you never will.

Good luck in your life! I mean that and I hope you can find happiness! :)

Comment by Liz

BTW Chas….the economy is turning around. You should check your facts before you post something false. DId you look at the stock market today? Oil is going up but that’s bullish. It’s getting to where it should be. We still need to work on alternative forms of energy, but for now that’s all good.

One more time…..we need both parties input to function properly. Why do you think Obama grabbed all the moderate Republicans for his cabinet as soon as he could – and he didn’t have much to choose from. What’s left are the “no” people who need to be replaced. They are working for special interests (foreign car companies, etc.) and we need to put term limits on them. That’s something we should all be working toward. I hope you are all involved in politics on some level…that way you understand things better how it all works.

A Brazilian ship recovered three more bodies from the Atlantic as searchers said weather and currents were making their job increasingly difficult and warned it is unlikely that all the dead from Air France Flight 447 will be found.

Forty-four bodies have now been retrieved from the Airbus 330 that crashed into the sea May 31 en route from Brazil to Paris. Authorities hope identifying the bodies will help them determine whether the plane broke up in midair by allowing them to match seating assignment with location of body recovery.

The democrats took office Jan 2007. The recession began December 2007. To assert that the cause of the economic recession was caused by a party that had office for less than a year is plain ridiculous, show me one piece of legislation that would support that claim.

The housing crisis began two and a half years ago. I recently had dinner with the president of one of the largest “home” industries in America, and I asked him point blank when did this a”housing” downturn begin? December 2006. Running a fortune 300 company that is totally reliant on the housing industry, is a pretty reliable source.

The banking industry collapse began with Lehman in August. It was either a political move on Bush’s part or he was receiving very bad advice to continue the charade the the fundamentals of the economy were sound, and to continue to ignore or fib about the true picture of the banking collapse untill we were in a crisis.

Don’t we all remember McCain big boo boo when he on September 15 announced the fundamental of the economy are strong as well? And then continuing to blast Obama for fear mongering about the economy?

Bush and Mccain warned us of the recession and crisis??????? Reallly????????

The Gross Domestic Product was down 5.7% for the first quarter of 2009 and tax receipts to the US Treasury were down almost 30% from the same period of 2008 for the first quarter of 2009. This spells a huge shortfall for the federal government at time when it has trillions of dollars of fixed expenses looming on the horizon. There are only two things the federal government can do: print money which will cause hyper inflation and interest rate increases like has not been seen since the early 1980’s (thank you Jimmah Carter) or the feds will raise EVERYONE’S TAXES, which will further depress consumer confidence and spending. The price of oil will continue to rise with speculators captializing on tensions mounting in the Middle East, depsite a lower US demand. Unemployment is expected to continue to rise and is already higher than estimates used in Obama’s budget for forecasting revenues for 2009. Yep, things are coming up roses, alright. Yes, the stock market is holding it’s own but MY broker has not recommended that I jump back in yet!

Just kidding Sal:

I would no suggest to a friend that they watch the lowest rated cable news networks, ever! LOL

The condecension of telling me that I am finally getting something that I have been saying for weeks is nauseating, Sal. The derivatives are an exact tool used as a method to justify and capitalize on making bad loans to people for mortgages who had not job, no income and in some case no citizenship. Mostly done by Fannie & Freddie, run by democrats ala Franklin Raines who was just one CEO had a policy of hiding the bad loans in the derivatives which were purchased by Wall Street speculators. This was all allowed and encouraged by the Community Reinvestment Act of 1976, a policy of Jimmy Carter, that was used as a cudgel by ACORN to intimidate democrats in Congress and then all of Congress during the Clinton administration to force banks to loan money to bad risk people. The banks had to find some way to incorporate the bad loans that they were mandated to make. Had that housing market not crashed they would still be doing this. But, a recession will cause a correction every time it happens.

Comment by carolynro

Derivative trading is where the bad loans were bundled or hidden and how they ended up in the Wall Street banks and became the underlying cause for the banks to crash. This was mandated by congress after being pressured by ACORN who discovered language in the Community Reinvestment Act of 1976. No matter how you view it, government is at the ground zero of the mortgage meltdown which ultimately infected the entire housing market and any related industry including Wall Street speculators. It is too simplistic to blame the banks who did what they were forced to do by congress. But, since the liberal media has taken the job of protecting Franks, Waters, Dodd (see Youtube video of congressional hearing above) who were chairs or ranking members of banking committee and who, even when in the minority, successfully blocked republican attempts to impose regs, many Americans refuse to acknowledge facts of the chronicled events. If it doesn’t fit a template of never faulting a democrat it is not reported!
 !

Comment by Liz

Well, Carolyn, I thought you got it but I guess not. This had NOTHING to do with ACORN! This had to do with Bush’s Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and corporate greed, and nothing more. They took us to the “bank”!

Comment by carolynro

Sorry to bust some myths from the left but here I go with more facts!!!!!!

From Wikipedia:
1988-1998: Focus on housing

While some of ACORN’s most notable efforts were in the area of housing, it has counted health, public safety, education, representation, work and workers’ rights and communications concerns among its victories.

The 1990 ACORN convention in Chicago focused on the fast-breaking housing campaign. It featured a squatting demonstration at an RTC house. Later, ACORN members demanded cooperation from banks about providing loan data on low- and moderate-income communities and compliance with the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act (CRA).

ACORN fought weakening of the CRA in 1991, staging a two-day takeover of the House Banking Committee hearing room. It also established ACORN Housing Corporation to service people moving into homes under the housing campaign, rehabilitated hundreds of houses addressed by CRA.

The ACORN convention in New York in 1992, called the “ACORN-Bank Summit”, was organized to make deals with giant banks. When Citibank, the nation’s largest bank, did not participate, conventioneers protested at its downtown Manhattan headquarters, and won a meeting to negotiate for similar programs.
