Alisyn in the Greenroom

Saturday Morning

Thanks for spending this 65th Anniversary of D-Day with us.   We’ll bring you all the commemoration from Normandy this morning.  Feel free to share what this day means to you.

Karl Rove claims to have read 110 books the last year he was in the White House.  We’ll ask Karl for his summer reading list.  What book are you reading?  I’d love to swap recommendations.

More later…

Hope you have another great show.

Good morning Ms Alisyn,

Right now I am reading American Victories, why Americans win wars and why we’ll win the war on terror.

D-Day was certainly the real turning point in the War. With all that was against only God could have made it happen.

Looking forward to the show today as always.

Good morning Alisyn,
I am not reading anything of import right this moment. Unless one considers wedding lists and thankyou notes, of course!!! hahaha! :) I have my cupa and am waiting for the best of the best to start… :) :) Another poignant moment of history…we pause to remember the brave who fought the evil that threatened the world all those years ago.

I myself am looking forward to today, Madison is celebrating it Bicentennial & the 200 hour party starts today with a parade, day is filled with live music, the Fire Muster with antique Fire trucks dating back to the 1800’s, an old fashioned Chautauqua & so much more! The day ending with a lighted boat parade!!

Comment by Ed Reining

Good Morning Ali,

My dad spent four and half years liberating Europe, and was even MIA behind enemy lines for 3 weeks while the French Underground helped get him back with US troops. The hardship and horrors these men and women endured to ensure ours and the worlds freedoms can never be repaid. Yet somehow a Thank You was more then they needed. When we see men and women in uniform we should always give them a thank you and perhaps pick up a tab for a meal or drink.

Here’s to all the men and women who serve out country in times of war and peace!

Ed

Good luck trying to get Kid Rock. Remember the last time you talked about him? and his beer? You went out of your way to insult him. Commented then that you needed to apologize but you never did!

Insulting people is not usually what happens, which is why this IS the Best of the Best, and starts my weekend with a huge smile!!! :) :) :)

I thought it was rather insulting for the Kid to show up at a morning show half knocked on his tin cups.

That shows a real disrespect for the people trying to promote your wares.

Alisyn,
And there’s Rush! Of course, anyone who actually listens to his show, does know “who he is” and what he’s about. Apparently the WH, does not listen regularly, hum? Altho I did suspect they might as there is so much to say about him and his show. lol Especially fr our lawmakers on the other side of the aisle, hum? Wasting valuable time to admonish him…shameful, one might think? Now that they have won, one would think this would stop! ha! Guess they aren’t feeling real secure, or one might suspect that is the case, anyway. lol

Gini, glad your Ohio weather is cooperating for you. Last Saturday Naples was not wedding weather thunderstorms and much (needed) rain, spotty storms today as well.

Comment by Gini

Alisyn.
Ah…and life isn’t “fair” now is it??? Hardly ever, and so it goes. Would seem there are some who just don’t understand that, however, a little age does help. The very young have more difficulty with that concept, of course. :)
I ask the old soldier if he remembers what he was doing on this day, all those yrs ago, and he doesn’t remember. I will pay attn, however, because sometimes he does…must keep paper and pencil at hand!!! :)

Comment by Me

Gini paper & pen would be a great idea, priceless memories !!!! We can learn so much from the old timers

Good morning Betty,
We have had storms all around us, but last Saturday, it was gorgeous! The wedding was magnificent…the reception perfect. A good time was had by all. lol The boy ended up in the emergency room, Monday nite, and it was nice actually, that he has a “wife” now, so SHE

Comment by Liz

I wonder if there’s anything in that book about the girl who drowned at Chappiquidik. Ted Kennedy should be in jail, not the Senate.

Comment by Gini

oops! hit submit by accident…so SHE got to spend the nite in the emergency room, instead of me! hahaha! He’s ok…he is going to have to address his health issues more aggressively. In the mean time, he dodged another bullet. Whew! lol :)

Comment by A Wall

Hey Gini

We had a wedding last weekend too—a fabulous day–my nephew got married—the very last song of the day was “I’m proud to be an American” and the bride asked that we all gather on the dance floor, hold hands in a circle and stop and remember our military personnel—she made this weepy girl cry. Bro was there too–retires in a month from the Corps—we’re all so proud.

How can we ever repay those guys and gals who serve and have served — Thank you!!

Comment by James Fuzzell

For summer reading I highly recommend “Countdown to Jerusalem” and “In Defense of Israel” by John Hague. For that matter any Stephen King re-tread will do as well.

In light of Obama’s forthecoming D-day commemoration speech and its likely content its time to pull out one of my favorite ole summertime games. Its a word substitution game fit for the entire family. All you have to do is each time you are about to utter a profane word, just substitute it with “Iraq” or “George Bush”. Ya know, what the iraq? Go George Bush yourself! You gotta be Iraq’n kiddin’ me? Great times and summer fun are sure to ensue for the entire George Bush’n family!

Comment by carolynro

D-Day meant a movie at a drive-in theater when I was a child. The Longest Day. But as I became an adult and learned that World War II was more than just a bunch of movies AND that my dad was a corpsman in a MASH unit on Okinawa during the war D-Day took on an entirely different meaning.
None of us, except for those of you here who have served the country, can know that absolute selfless sacrifice those young boys made for the United States of America and her allies. When ever I see a soldier, be it in an airport or in WalMart, I always walk up to them shake their hand and say “thank you”. I cry at parades when the military compliment marches by. I cry when I see my dad trying to find any of the last of his fellow military members on the internet to try to post their names in the WWII monument in Washington, D.C. . That is what D-Day means to me.

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Thank you for sharing your personal experience carolynro

Comment by Liz

I’m sure Obama’s speech will get rave reviews….by most of the country anyway! (sorry, but after only 5 months, I’m still willing to give him a chance) I still have not heard a better plan from the other side. Has anyone else? Don’t think there’s one out there yet.

I was in Russia for there Victory Day cerebration, end of WWII for them a few months prior to the end of the war for USA. Wonderful!! I bet there were a few tears for sure. Dad went to the reception only. He is so frail, I didn’t want him to have to sit in church…it exhausted him thoroughly, but was worth the effort of course. I did get a picture of the whole family, with him, which I have not actually got in my hand, but when I do, will send it to you…of course, out of town fam were unable to make the trip as things conspired to make it too difficult..another “life is not fair” moment, hum??? haha! I remember the first time I went to the WWII Memorial. I dialed up my dad back in Michigan and told him how beautiful it is. He started weeping and of course, so did I.
I want so badly for him to see it but my mom can’t make the trip and he won’t leave her. I suggested he participate in the program that takes planes full of vets there for a day but he still won’t go without her.

So, he started locating veterans on the internet and by mail and filling out forms for them to have their names entered into the memorial. It gave him great satisfaction to try to make sure all are recognized, living and deceased.

Escape entertainment has somehow gone over my head. Ron & Kate, American Idol, survival shows, etc. do not provide the same soul nourishment as a good book. Although probably out of the mainstream of thinking, I am currently re-reading William Bennett’s “America, The Last best Hope”.
This, in my humble opinion, is the best treatise on American History written to date. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t read them all.

Jon & Kate may have better ratings but they lost me when they started sitting in that chair and Kate would state on every show “This is a Business” and if they fight till they lose everything, Kate will develop a show about her and the kids living in a double-wide down by the river all the while complaining about Jon not paying enough in child support.

She is ruining those kids.

My dad would never have been able to go to college if he hadn’t served. He was inspired by the doctors he worked with in the field hosptial and decided to go to college using the GI money when he returned. A good consequence, for sure. His success has given me a much more blessed life . Others in his family were not so fortunate having grown up in a depressed Detroit where many families were torn apart by a lack of education, opportunity, and jobs. Oh, sort of like how it is now!

They prob won’t welcome my input, as I tend to “micro manage”, as mom’s often do, hum?? Get lots of raised eyebrows. Mom..I KNOW what I am doing, so don’t need your help, hum???
WE LOVE RONALD, and the “one” can’t come close. No point of reference, after all? For sure…and my mute button is poised also. lol :) He, being the first prez I have had difficulty listening to. Have always listened, whether voted for or not, so this is an unusual phenomenon for me. Too bad he doesn’t remember he is the prez, hum? of these UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Would be nice if once, he would. lol grrrrr, again. lol

The World War II Memorial is a beautiful tribute to all those that served and fought in the Great War.

Remenbrance of the reasons for that war, along with honoring our heroes, is what today is about. My dad was with Patton’s troops in North Africa and Sicily. He than went on to Italy, having fought at Anzio.

He, like many others, chose to try to forget the horrors of that war. It was only after his death that I discovered a journal that he had kept, telling of the events that he had witnessed. It was not pleasant for the Fascists in Italy after the liberation. He, like many, believed that the Pope was a collaborator.

Normandy was the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany. It took thousands of lives and millions of civilian casualties to secure that victory. History does not record all of the politics involved in prosecuting that war.

Viet Nam, though, is a shining example of what happens when politicians become too involved in micro-managing a war.

Good Morning Alisyn, all

My father was the oldest of 9 (6) brothers, first generation, American’s. All 6, of course, participated in WW2 one never came home, one spent the next 50 or so years nursing wounds he incurred while liberating France. When I became of age to know and understand why Nonnie cried every Veterians day, and why Uncle Dino walked with a cane, I asked my father to tell me the stories of those days. He would alays say “oh my bella, war is not something to talk about, it’s something to pray never occures.” He didn’t want “thanks” and in fact thought it unbecoming of a man to accept praise for something he felt was a duty of a man. ( he didn’t think beautiful women should be in the military..LOL) … Anyway….. to the poster who thinks liberals and war heros are opposites, never met my father and our family.

Comment by Gini

A Wall…well done!!! :) :)

Comment by James MacDougall M.D

Allisyn,

Careful with the terminology regarding medical bills and bankruptcy. To paraphrase, you stated that people are suffering bankruptcy due to large “doctor bills.” While unexpected, catastrophic health care expenses represent a significant financial strain for many due to underinsurance and the fact that most do not anticipate or save for this contingency, physician charges represent a small fraction of the expenses a patient faces. Hospital bills and ongoing drug costs are far larger in the overall picture. For example, when I fix a fracture or replace a hip or knee, my charges are usually between $1000 and $1500, (I was paid $2500 for the same work in 1990), while the hospital bill is typically $25,000 to $50,000, sometimes more. Further, when an uninsured patient presents at the emergency room for care, the physician of the appropriate specialty treats the person until resolution of the problem without any real expectation of being paid. The hospital, on the other hand, for -profit or not-for-profit, typically is very aggressive in pursuit of payment for the debt for the hospitalization, even using legal action, garnishment of wages, or liens.

You in the media have tremendous power to shape opinion and frame the debate on a topic. The future of health care delivery and financing is too important to lend itself to soundbites intended to instill outrage.

My stepfather landed on Normandy on DDay as a NAVY Seabee and served in Okinawa in the Pacific theater. I recently flew to Washington DC to assist as a volunteer with an Honor Flight for two days. It was such a moving experience to meet these men and women who served during WWII. They are extremely humble and from my experience, I would recommend more people to volunteer for the Honor Flight programs. You will come away with great admiration and respect for our American Heroes. On this 65th Anniversary of DDay, I would like to send out a huge THANK YOU! to all those heroes!

Lori, the politics of a few affect the lives of many in times of war. In the lives that are lost and the blood that is spilled, there are no democrats or republicans, only Americans. Your father and uncles are heros, and will always be remembered as such. Even if they don’t want to be thanked, I hope that they knew how grateful America was for their service.

Have a nice day everyone. Good show 2 day.

Comment by Liz

Lori, my gripe about FOX is that they don’t put disclaimers on shows like Beck’s, which is pure fantasy. Even Cavuto was very upset with him for “fearmongering”! Cavuto is a business guy and he knows darn well that the economy will recover and the Dow is NOT headed toward 27!!! LOL

I just wish that anyone from FOX who may be reading this blog will think about remedying that fact. Many people out there think Beck is on the level…they don’t realize the show is about “nothing”! Kinda like “Seinfeld”!

Have a great day Lori.

In case you need a reminder on what a great man Ronald Reagan was:

‘The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.’ – Ronald Reagan

‘Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. Was too strong.’ – Ronald Reagan

Comment by Sterling

Wonderful, Mary. He also said:

Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty.

Government’s first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.

How do you tell a communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.

I’ve never been able to understand why a Republican contributor is a ‘fat cat’ and a Democratic contributor of the same amount of money is a ‘public-spirited philanthropist’.

Comment by carolynro

Those children (some as young as 17 and 18 years old) who fought in WWII lived through a depression during which many future soldiers and their families became dependent upon the government for their existence. Dependent on government for everything, including their meager Christmas presents and their food. Why do we glorify a president and a political party that captured so many in the trap of dependence upon the government? My dad is still embarrassed that his parents were so caught up in a president who forever trapped millions of Americans into the welfare system. Those brave marines and soldiers would have said they were Martians had they been told that their food and clothes were coming from Mars. The horribly poor in the 1930’s were bought and paid for by The New Deal and the tradition continues. I doubt seriously that very many of those youngsters who volunteered to serve the country were concerned about political party and were much more interested in killing the enemy and the 3 hots and a cot and an opportunity to get away from the poverty they were living in.

Comment by Gini

OMG…but, one might expect this fr liberals who forget what it is all abt, hum?? And so it goes, in an America whose citizens forget, or haven’t bothered to read at all. Too sad really, Lori, that you would decide that if not a liberal, not an American. I am so sorry for you, but your fam didn’t win the war single handedly, after all, hum? Not at all…you might rethink your post, as there are others here as well, whose fathers fought bravely. You missy, are wrong.

Comment by Liz

Mary, judge everyone individually. There are plenty of smart liberals, just as there are smart conservatives – and the reverse is true in both parties. Reagan was brilliant, and even most liberals agree with that. I am leaning more left than right these days because the Repubs just don’t have a platform. Seems they are only finding fault instead of finding solutions since the election. If they get too conservative they won’t win back any lost voters. I want a viable 2-party system in this country. I hope they can come back around with someone like Reagan. Capitalism is a great thing….when it’s not allowed to get out of control.

Have a great day!

Comment by carolynro

Amen, Sterling! And why is a liberal who has been bribed by the promise of a government program more noble than a conservative who believes in personal responsibility?

Comment by Liz

Gini, I’m sure your whole family was not always conservative! Hum?

Comment by Jimmy

well said Gini….thank you for making that point!

Comment by Liz

Carolyn, what about corporate responsibility? That goes hand-in-hand with capitalism.

Comment by carolynro

Gini:

People are forgetting about the desparate poverty under which families, like my dad’s, were living under in the 1930’s. When their White Knight came along, of course they all thought they were liberals. But, I say, if Welfare had come from Mars, those soldiers and their families would have pledged their allegience to the Martian party!!!

Comment by Sterling

And one of my favorites:

The taxpayer – that’s someone who works for the federal government but doesn’t have to take the civil service examination.

Comment by Mary

Thanks Sterling, and just to add a few more.

‘Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed, there are many rewards; if you disgrace yourself, you can always write a book.’ – Ronald Reagan

‘No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is as formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.’ – Ronald Reagan

Carolyn, you’re dodging the question again! What about corporate responsibility! Take some business classes and you might want to add economics…..or just listen to Cavuto on FOX, or CNBC. That might give you a clue about what went wrong, or you can check the numerous links I’ve posted about the “Robbing of America” by our Banks, Insurance companies and “big business”! Honesty and ethics have to be in the mix or capitalism can’t work properly. Once we get “checks and balances” back in the system, we can return to capitalism. The Bush admin. decided we didn’t need them anymore, but they were WRONG!

Comment by Gini

You are Liz??? hummm…OH! Forgot you are all knowing one. You know less than nothing, and your uninformed posts continue to insult me, little one. YOU KNOW NOTHING AT ALL, and respect NO ONE AT ALL…you are a total NUT! lol Not nice, you say? True, but then, you are “not nice” at all. Why would I bother with you at all? I am so fortunate to still have him with us all…even if he can’t remember much of it, and his heroic deeds…we have his Purple Heart and campaign ribbons to remind us, after all, of his bravery and sacrifice. lol hum???

LOL, Gini. Calling them like you see them again, in this very nice place to be. But please don’t forget, there’s only one here who bashes, bullys, and insults, and it’s not you. But then, I’m not bright enough to understand, and I need to take a college course on Government 101, (even if I do know that America is a republic and NOT a democracy, I’m still the one who needs the college course, LOL) Carol needs to take an economics course, and the rest of us are not allowed to express our malformed opinions about anything AND we need to change the channel from Fox. Does that about cover it?

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Where was the bashing and bullying and insulting until now? Weren’t we having a civilized discourse? Let’s start fresh tomorrow, can we?

Sorry, Gini, but I will still try to educate you, so you don’t head down the wrong path. LOL Don’t feel obligated to respond, especiallly if you don’t know how. The others don’t either! Comment by Mike Kelly

Your coverage of the D-Day Remembered 1944-2009 was “outstanding” I was curious if any other stations were carrying this important historic event, and of course they were not. This day is a defining moment in World history and leave it to Fox to appreciate the importance of a moment in time that still gives me chills, and makes me proud to be an American. I am a 43 year old Army Veteran and pray that people can some day understand the ultimate sacrafice these men made for their country.

Comment by Jimmy

good ones Betty!

Comment by Liz

Well, Jimmy, I don’t dislike conservatives, just the self-righteous ones! Everyone has a right to their own opinions, but they don’t have a right to say that their opinion is the only RIGHT one or try to force their beliefs on others! That’s what makes this country great….freedom to choose what we believe!

Comment by Liz

Mike, MSNBC is also covering it!

Comment by Liz

BTW Jimmy, I am Independent….with some conservative views and some liberal. Most people here think all liberal views are bad. It’s very hard to get a discussion going here because they like to repeat rhetoric heard on Fox programs.

Comment by Jimmy

Liz….you have come into this blog….and continued to be rude, arrogant, insulting to almost everyone….and seemlingly intend on creating discord continuosly.
Certainly we all have our opinions…and in here…we agree to disagree, and each can state his case….and should be able to in a friendly manner. You have not done that, at all. I find you pious and self righteous and condescending in your manner. And to what purpose, Liz? What does your behavior promote? Nothing positive that I can see.

Comment by βɛʈʈɥ

Jimmy, you negelected pompous to your list.

Comment by chas

Jimmy,

self–righ·teous Listen to the pronunciation of self–righteous
Pronunciation:
\-ˈrī-chəs\
Function:
adjective
Date:
circa 1680

: convinced of one’s own righteousness especially in contrast with the actions and beliefs of others : narrow-mindedly moralistic

Let’s see someone says we are narrow minded, need to be educated, try’s to force their beliefs on others. Would that fit the definition to you?

Seems to me my friend that certain people are so self-absorbed that they can’t even see the fault in their own self while casting that allegation at others.

What say you?

chas

Comment by Jimmy

Betty….no need to state the obvious! LOL

Comment by Sterling

The reason it’s hard to get a discussion going here is because you insult everyone with whom you engage. As you’ve said, it seems like a thousand times now, everyone is entitled to their opinions, however, you must not have much faith in your own since the only way that you present them is with an insult to someone else. That’s fine, but stop acting so self righteous when others push back with their own opinions. And for goodness sakes, show some respect to Fox News and Alisyn Camerota, since this is their forum that your using to hurl your insults.

Comment by βɛʈʈɥ

Jimmy, good thing you can’t read my mind for the word following pompous …………….

Comment by Jimmy

Thank you Chas!…I agree completely. And I think someone is in need of analysis….and quickly! LOL

Comment by Gini

I would agree Chas…yes, that’s the correct definition. lol One expects, however, that everyone does not know the definition of that or “promise” either, tho you did also post that as well. And, so it goes, as the uninformed continue to be just that…uninformed, hum? :) A gallant effort tho, my friend. lol :)

Comment by Jimmy

already completed the phrase in my mind, Betty! LOL

The only way some people can feel good about themselves…..is to try to belittle everyone else.
A true sign of a soul in need of a good 12 step program!

Given enough time for preparation, anyone can write a speech that is stirring, and offends no one.

This indeed was not an American war, it was an allied war.

The problem with Obummer is his disingenuousness. His philosophies and actions, along with those of his associates, are not mirrored in his speeches.

In spite of what the messiah says, America is not a muslim nation and should not be numbered as such.

Many years ago, Dr. Billy Graham said that tolerance would be the downfall of America. Is that not what we are witnessing today?

Comment by Roy

Hi Everyone,

I have an uncle who was wounded twice in World War II–the first time at Omaha Beach on D-Day and the second time at the Battle of the Bulge. I have read a great deal about World War II and the courage our soldiers and our country demonstrated during that time. I tell you, it is unfathomable to me that humans can be so courageous and full of resolve. We were GREAT during that time because we HAD to be. Negotiations and liberal minded “thinkers” who wanted to appease and pander the tyrants who attempted to conquer us FAILED. I hope our country and our president will grow the spine necessary to deal with nutcases like the ones in Iran and Korea. I wonder if FDR or Harry Truman would have apolygized to Hitler or Mussolini for American “arrogance” or for the supposed mistakes we made. We’ve got a long way to go before we become what we ought to be. It’s sad that we have to look toward the past in order to figure out “what we need to be” is.

Comment by Liz

The problem with Obummer is his disingenuousness. His philosophies and actions, along with those of his associates, are not mirrored in his speeches.

This is the stuff that makes me angry….where’s the proof? This is a completely false statement IMO.

Later! Go on with your bashing of America and all that she stands for!

Comment by olinl

Okay. I said I would not debate a nincompoop, but I must answer.

How about “There is no pork in this spending bill”. How about “$18 Billion in Pork is just a very small percentage of the total spending”. How about “$18 billion in budget cuts is a very large step in streamlining government spending”. How about going from “3 million jobs created” to “5 million jobs saved”.

The list goes on, but every campaign promise that he has acted on has blown up in his face, and he is still campaigning.

We need a president, not a permanent campaigner. This is not a popularity contest. We have very serious problems, compounded by misguided actions from congress and this administration.

Obummer himself has said “We are out of money”. But that won’t stop him for asking for more.

I will prob be dead by then, however, as it takes a while for people to get riled to that point. lol :) Dead or too old, I think, anyway. lol :)

It’s a good one … lots of tips from Clayton about how to avoid having your email hacked … and lots of laughs at Dave’s expense for having his email hacked (he used his wife’s name as his password) … but all around, it was good natured fun … thanks, Alisyn, Dave and Clayton for letting your viewers in on it :-) :-) :-)

Sonner or later, those misguided individuals still living in LALA Land, adoring Obummer, must come to the realization that he is just another politician from Chicago (that bastion of honesty in politics).

Whenever I must shake hands with a politician, I garb both hands, to keep one of them out of my pocket, and I count my fingers when I take my hand back.

The fact that he is all about total, uncontrolled, power is the scary part.

Alisyn, I just want to say THANK YOU! You are a class act!

Comment by Roy

Liz,

Wherever you are, I want to apolygize for my rudeness that I promised I would not show if you came back to join us. I’m not sure what possessed me. You are an intelligent woman, and it was unfair of me to suggest otherwise. I don’t even know you, so it wasn’t fair of me to say imply you were spoiled, etc. If I am similarly rude to you again, I promise you (and my promises are ironclad) I will leave this blog and never return to it again. My purpose for entering to begin with was to have fun and engage in intelligent conversation with others. My rude comments were neither fun nor intelligent. Although you and I disagree profoundly, I encourage you to keep seeking truth. You’ll eventually find it.
It might surprise you that you remind me of someone I know: ME. You remind me of myself when I was a younger man (I’m nearly 55 now.) When I was about 21 or so, I remember coming back home and trying to educate everyone about how things “really are”. Since that time, I’ve put a few years behind me, and I have been startled to discover that things are not always as they appeared when I was 21. I found out that everything isn’t always black or white, good or evil.
My opinions about our illustrious president are the same. I believe he is too naive about terrorism, too generous with my money, and too “devil may care” about social issues about which I can get very emotional. Sorry, I can’t help myself.

Comment by chas

Roy,

Your reaction was understandable. When someone comes along so full of themselves that those who have years of education and experience are accused of being, too stupid to have an opinion, or of being racist or any other degrading things, one tends to take it personally.

I tried numerous times to calm things down but was ignored and received a number of insults and replied in a calmer manner, but not up to my personal standard. That aside, I have opted to ignore the unhealthy attitude and continue to post to those friends I have here.

This has always been a respectful place and disrespect has never been tolerated until the last few weeks. I would hope that that would change, but I have my doubts about any meaningful change taking place any time soon. Continue to join us, it’s easy to ignore someone if you have a little self-control.

Hardly name calling Alisyn…”she” has bashed and name called all along, and I have said little in response. Perhaps today, one is a little more sensitive to it all, as I take care of my father, who fought valiantly, so she could “talk” to her hearts content…a privilege she enjoys, as do I, actually. “She” does not post with impunity, after all, I don’t think, or does she??

Comment by Gini

Roy,
Now, isn’t that a shame that missy has driven you away. I am sure she is use to getting her own way in all things, as she has been supported nicely, she has said. She has also said, she does not converse with her father on political issues, as he “is not modern thinking”, so there ya are. lol hum??? lol Too sad really, that the person who loves her best, has seen it all, read it all, experienced much of it all first hand, has been deemed “too dumb” to have a conversation with. I think that abt covers it, and just exactly from whence she cometh into our midst, hum?

Comment by Gini

Ah! And she chges her tune, would seem…a while back that wasn’t the opinion of our little missy, as I recall. lol Not surprising, fr someone who doesn’t know exactly what’s up, perhaps? lol

Comment by carolynro

Sucking up to Ali won’t excuse how you have treated some very nice people here. I don’t care about myself. I can give as good as I get. You should try to understand that perhaps some people view abortion the way they do because they have tried to have babies and are unable to. Maybe someone has had an abortion or their wife or girlfriend did and are regretful. Your comments show not one scintilla of compassion for those real people’s real experiences and memories. They are not just regurgitating stuff they have read or heard in the media or on some of the horrible sites you adore. Maybe others have lost many babies are grieve while others celebrate or condone the destruction of human life. Maybe someone has lost a child in the war that they fought for us under George Bush and do not want to just discount Bush as the loser you think he is. Just think for once that you are not the most important person on the planet or that you know all sides of all issues. You have been very hurtful in your attempt to show us all that you are smart. Smart is not wise though and you should know the difference. Showing off that you can repeat talking points is no substition for what many others here have lived. Just THINK and give others some respect and they might just respect you- if you care at all about that.

Comment by Gini

A little minute ago, Carolyn, she had nothing nice to say at all about the show. One did wonder why she came to this space at all, as her comments were so untoward. But, like most libs, her tune has changed a bit, to “match the moment”, a tried and true “tactic” of anyone who doesn’t take a stand on anything, but remains in the “middle of the road”, hum??

Comment by olinl

Liz has said that she is A New Testament and ONLY New testament Christian. Perhaps a little dose of Proverbs wisdom to go along with her learning would benefit her somehow.

Gini:
I remember being just like ACORN Liz more than once in my life and it never turned out well. These leftist whack-os have us all fighting for turf in the political landscape while all the professional politicians continue to take our money and our freedoms. Youngsters just don’t understand as they are too close to the years of being taken care of by mom and dad and see nothing wrong with a Nanny State. They haven’t counted pennies to buy groceries or had to borrow money from a bank to pay rent. They haven’t worked 60 hours a week at hard labor only to not be able to pay the medical bills. THEY HAVE PAID NO DUES!! So many of them have too much time on their hands to surf the net and find all of this garbage that lures them in. I have heard it all from my kids. Their friends are so whacked out on conspiracy theories and negativism that they can barely function. A simple truth: Oil prices were high under Bush, so it was his fault. Written and screamed about for years. Today gas is going up again and not one peep blaming this president. Just simple inconsistencies, easy to follow for even the dullest knife in the drawer and they don’t believe that this is just the tip of the hypocrasy iceberg. Sheesh!!!!

Comment by Roy

Gini,

I don’t intend to leave–at leat not yet. In the very near future I will have to post much less frequently. I’m going to be gone awhile. I am a teacher and school is OUT. I’m getting ready to travel awhile. Anyway, I only said I would leave if my get whacko again and allow my behavior to degenerate. That isn’t me; and I don’t like being someone else.
I will say to Carolyn that I agree with her. I don’t doubt Liz’ intelligence; but I do seriously question her wisdom. She has been deceived, just as so many millions of Americans have been deceived. Getting a new president is like getting a Christmas present. The wrapping may be shiny withbeautiful bows and ribbons; but its contents are often absolutely atrocious!

Comment by Gini

Olin… :) :) :) Our Liz only reads that which is given to her, would seem, so there is little hope that is going to happen at all. She has managed to make Roy leave, perhaps, and that’s too bad. I hope he reconsiders and comes back. It’s a shame to loose a thoughtful and smart fan, I think? lol Oh well..and so it goes, I guess. I have been here a while, and am not driven away by “that sort”…but, can occasionally become a bit riled, depending on. Usually stay calm actually, as we all know, opinions are not worth much, actually?? Cookies, on the other hand!!??? hahahaha!!! :) :) :)

Comment by Gini

Roy…you get to travel?? Where are you going, and I think that’s wonderful. Of course, I think teachers are the unsung hero’s of the day…and always have thought so. We only get to hear abt “the bad ones” unfortunately. The fam is replete with teachers, and they all contributed much more than they got “paid” for….so I think that is one area, where much is sacrificed for the “benefit” of many, hum??? lol :) I am SO GLAD you are not leaving this “most wonderful place to be”…. :)

Comment by carolynro

Well enough on this subject. I just wanted to express my sadness that it is to easy to blurt out mean things without considering how you may be really hitting someone in the gut. I have done it and had it done to me and I think so many younger people don’t give us older folks and consideration for our real experiences that have formed our opinions.

Comment by Sterling

Did I really read that correctly? After all the bashing that has been done by a new blogger around here for the last couple weeks, Gini and I get a do-better? That really stinks.

Comment by olinl

Changing the subject for the moment. Earlier, on one of the Fox News business shows, a gentleman was expounding how a user tax on gasoline would only affect those who were using the fuels. Let me present what I believe will be the case.

I have a small business that requires me to provide transportation from my place of business to the work sites. I pay a fairly large monthly fuel bill. The gov approves a user tax on this fuel and all the fuel required to transport goods and services by all companies. All of these businesses will increase the prices of their product to at least cover the increase in fuel costs.

The consumer, the only fuel consumer that has no way to pass along the cost of the fuel he uses, will pay both that tax AND the increased cost of goods and services as a result of that tax.

The end result is that the consumer winds up paying all of the user tax, one way or the other. The same can be said for Cap and Trade taxes and all other energy taxes.

I think the Tax and Spend group knows this, they just won’t admit it. Disingenuous? I thihk SO!!!

Comment by Sterling

Carolyn, thank you for your words. I was unable to have children. I believe that that was in God’s plan, though I think that some here think it’s just biology. But again, I forget that I’m bright enough to have an opinion. Or so I’ve been told.

Comment by Gini

Well Sterling…I think we always “do better”, so have responded, as I do not think I post “w/impunity” but am answerable to my fellow bloggers, as well as the host of the show. lol In that I have never been disrespectful of either, I am comfy cozy w/everything I have said, and feel no need to apologize to anyone.

Comment by Gini

Olin…there you go again, talking with some authority about it all. You are risking being called unAmerican. Along the way, wonder what those that don’t have a clue, will think when the food on the shelf at the grocery store sours to huge prices, making “grain” and “dairy” impossible to purchase by “the common worker” bee, hum??? lol It’s already gone too high, of course, and will continue to rise, as they fuel cost is attached to the delivery of it all. hum??? lol And that’s just one important segment of consideration, of course. If one does not have the maturity, to extrapolate that to it’s end, there is no hope, and OF COURSE, they are being disingenuous.

Comment by Gini

Sterling…these people also think they can control the weather, hum??? So, one does not wonder, they don’t think that the hand of God, is the compass, hum? lol

Comment by Gini

OH! They won’t think a thing abt it Olin, as they will expect, of course, that it should be given to them, right? How on earth could I have forgotten that…our government will make sure we are fed and clothed and housed, appropriately. lol And of course, given transportation to our place of work, doled out to each, by said government. Didn’t I read this at one time, in a book or two? I am sure there have also been a couple of movies abt this as well, along the way. lol

Comment by Gini

And, of course, those who have no “value” anymore, will no longer be with us at all…either at birth, b/4 birth, or along the way, hum?

Jimmy! :) :) :) We don’t know, of course…and so it goes in the world of cyber space, hum? lol ha! lol The comments didn’t quite sound like what I am use to actually, so was a bit puzzled. lol Oh well..and so it goes. lol

Comment by Liz

Roy, as Alisyn so aptly pointed out, misinformation should be corrected. I am 27, so not really that young! I do have a good education thanks to my good ole dad and I appreciate him more than he will ever know! I don’t always agree with his politics and I don’t always agree with yours, and others on this blog. I don’t know how many times I’ve said that I’m not a liberal. I’m Independent, but I voted for Obama for all the reasons I’ve spelled out on this blog. I’m sorry that the die-hard ultra-conservatives here want to slam me for my beliefs that don’t coincide exactly with theirs. I guess they can do that, but it’s not very respectful, and I was raised to be respectful. However, when I don’t get respect I don’t give it. I believe that some think I was planted here by some left-wing organization, but I can assure you that’s not true.

If I offended anyone here I’m sorry, and if you want me to I will go away. Sterling, I understand why abortion is such a sore issue with you and I’m very sorry that I was so harsh. It’s just that you seem to think your opinion (about everything) is the only one that matters. That’s just how you came across to me. Please accept my sincere apology.

OK, I’ll leave now! Everyone have a great day. :)

Comment by Gini

There ya are…w/your die hard conservative remarks. YOU haven’t listened at all, being so busy deciding what everyone else believes. YOU don’t have a clue, at all, but are right and ready to bash anyone at all who disagrees with. Your apology? hummm…you haven’t said one word that even comes close to an apology, including your remarks to Sterling…that is not an apology at all. Not at all…you are not a nice person Liz.

Comment by Liz

I won’t apologize for what I believe Gini. My beliefs have not changed and if I decide to argue a point, I will. That’s called debate – ever hard of it? YOU are just bashing ME! Go back and re-read your post! I never said you were not a nice person, and I never will…because I don’t know enough about you to make that call.

Again, have a nice day! :)

Comment by Gini

Liz…you were welcomed with open arms by everyone on this blog. You immediately called everyone out, for being “ultra conservative”. An apology is not an apology, unless meant by the person making the apology. You obviously do not mean it at all. No one has ever suggested you can’t have your point of view on this site. You have consistently however, made it your business to tell everyone their thinking is wrong headed and “not modern”, hum?? You are wrong about the people who blog here, and have one huge nerve to come on this site and tell everyone who they are and presume to tell everyone who they should be. IF you really felt bad abt it all, you could just say, I’m sorry. You can’t, cause you’re not at all. Ah…an age thang, you see, so one does recognize an apology when it is given, and when it is not sincere at all. lol One day you will too…

Comment by Gini

Oh but Liz, you certainly did…oh! of course, however, you are all over the map, so you don’t remember what you have said at all, now do you. You, I repeat, are not a nice person.

Comment by olinl

The same logic used for “User Taxes” can be applied to health care.

What I am seeing from this administration is troubling, because it goes way beyond socialism.

In true socialism, everyone contributes to the common good.

The system that is developing here has both contributors and contributees, with less and less contributors on the horizon. I don’t know the demographics, but I somehow think that the majority of taxpayers are over fifty.

Comment by Gini

Olin,
I think that is a fair analogy…and we are about to find out if it’s so, aren’t we. lol We wait patiently for the other shoe to drop, and wonder who is going to pay for it all. Well…we know it will be our grandchildren and their grandchildren, and no one will be served at all, one might think? Or so history might indicate anyway. lol

Where was the bashing and bullying and insulting until now? Weren’t we having a civilized discourse? Let’s start fresh tomorrow, can we?

Comment by lori

Our host seems to think it is perfectly fine to have a conversation, which may include different opinions. Perhaps we can??????? Just sayin, Alisyn seems to think differences are a good thing and noone… should be excluded ..;-)

If my memory serves me correctly, and I can go back and copy and paste if need be… that at least one or two people on this blog seem to think that we should never have allowed “them” the right to vote? Ya know I don’t really want to go there…. Buttttt let’s be honest folks. not everyone is coming from a fair and balanced postion….

Comment by Gini

Thankfully, I am not in the habit of changing my opinions at the drop of a hat, hum? My view and comments are consistent and unchanged, as I do NOT stand in the “middle of the road” at all, ever, so am not confused along the way at all, hum?

Comment by Gini

The exclusion is not on the part of the bloggers here on this site, which is consistently nice, smart, informed and welcoming to everyone who posts here. lol Copy and paste all you like…that is a statement of truth, and one could parse it to death, I guess. Go for it kiddo. By all means. lol

Comment by Gini

I don’t think you will get much positive conversation however, as much would be taken out of context, a lib trick, used often by skilled people, for sure….so one wouldn’t be at all surprised to find it happening here on this space, which has stayed nice for a long time now. Prob because only nice people come here, hum?

Comment by Jimmy

Gini…I think you and I, and Pat should go back and cut and paste a few choice emails, maybe? LOL

Comment by Gini

Ah Jimmy…I don’t think so at all, really. This conversation is a waste of time. One cannot argue with people who speak in circles, after all. lol I would be sorry to see anyone driven away by those who come here to just be mean spirited. That happens occasionally, now doesn’t it. They leave eventually, when they become bored with it all. lol In the mean time, one just endures it all. I am a bit negative today, which is not my usual mood, of course, so prob should go pull a weed or two out of the yard? Dad is restless today, so turned on music for him…some light classical, and he is resting comfy in his nice big chair. lol

Comment by Jimmy

ok Gini…..the higher road, indeed….see y’all later today at the bunker LOL

Comment by Gini

For sure Jimmy…might turn a movie on, to change this mood I seem to be in, hum? lol ha ha! lol :) :) :) Just got a bit tired of it all, you know? That does happen, even to those who would not usually go there at all. lol hahaha! :) I am, after all, the cookie and comfort lady, hum? lol And he did bring cookies home today…so I am smilin’ abt that. lol

You people are going too far today trying to incite a riot at the Notre Dame commencement ceremony. Don’t try to ruin it for these graduates by suggesting that “protesting students” try to unplug the microphone while Obama is giving his speech. The president of Notre Dame had nothing but good things to say about Obama yesterday and the protesting students plan to be peaceful. As far as I’m concerned George Bush has more blood on his hands — starting 2 wars, executing 100+ prisoners in Texas, and that’s just the beginning, yet nobody protested his speech at Notre Dame. He never tried to repeal Roe v. Wade either, did he? Stop playing partisan politics. It doesn’t become you!!!

Why don’t you people ever talk about the failed Bush presidency and what you might do to win back “defectors” (like me) to the Democrats. I never voted for a Democrat in my life until Obama, and I decided to do that after watching panic-stricken Hank Paulson begging Congress for $700 billion only a few days after McCain said the economy was fundamentally sound. Where was Bush during his presidency….on vacation?

As for the abortion issue….I am NOT pro abortion but I am not for criminalizing it and watching it become a criminal enterprise once again. Since 1972 when Roe v. Wade became law has any Republican president tried to repeal it? NO! Why not? Answer that for me please…..you people with all the answers.

I’ve never posted much on political boards and I always liked Fox when I was Republican. My favorite show was the morning show with Edie and Madcow. I was totally disillusioned by Bush….Bushwhacked I guess you could say. What bothered me most were his communication skills. It’s hard to believe he graduated from Yale and he can’t communicate. Most of his decisions after 9-11 were dead wrong. I don’t believe in the Bush Doctrine. Ronald Reagan was my favorite president…..and he had so much charisma. I would really like to see the Republican party choose a platform and stop being so negative….and aligning with people like Cheney & Limbaugh. Limbaugh puts us back in the stone age as far was women are concerned. A few days ago he said, “if women want equal rights, then Nancy Pelosi has to resign.” Are my rights dependent on Nancy Pelosi’s decision to resign or not? I don’t think so!!!

Become the party of “YES” and not the party of “NO” and I will revisit sometime. I don’t care if you believe me or not, I’m being totally honest, which is more than I can say for most posters here.

I guess abortion is the issue of the day huh? Why is it still legal after all the convservatives we’ve had in office over the years? Is it because the alternative would have more dire consequences?

I try not to project my morality on anyone else. I don’t believe it’s moral, no. I do, however, think it should be legal and safe. Before it was legal it was a criminal enterprise and unqualified people were performing it. There were many more deaths as a result and that’s why we legalized it. It’s a private matter between you and your God, and no one else. It shouldn’t even be debated. I do believe that late term abortions should be illegal however. Nuff said. Many conservatives agree with me.

OK you guys…I just had another long post disappear. I’m going to have to stop talking about Cheney because when I talk about him my post disappears. So, I will talk about Michael Steele instead. He is the embodiment of everything that’s wrong with the Republican Party today. People are turned off by his negative attitude and accusations against everyone in the Democratic party, bar none. He’s talking about Obama’s demeanor and what a great orator he is, but that he’s “bankrupting” our country. Sorry, Michael, the Bush admin. already did that. He’s trying to fix it. If Michael was positive and would offer up some “viable” solutions, maybe he would be taken seriously.

That’s great! I’m usually not around on Saturdays, but have a great holiday weekend. BTW if you get a chance watch Becky Quick’s interview with Warren Buffett on CNBC. If there’s anyone whose opinion on the economy I trust, it’s his! He’s a very warm, friendly person as well. It’s on right now, but I’m sure they will repeat it.

I would never believe Hannity or Beck. They “twist” the truth and use scare tactics. Tonight Hannity is talking about the “Socialist States of America”! Puleeeeeze! What a freak he is! “My way or the highway Hannity.” I wish Fox would put on some real economists and not just entertainers. If they would put on a show that’s not completely slanted to the far right I would watch a lot more.

Have a great evening

I’m sure everyone here saw Beck on The View….how sad. Not even Elizabeth would defend him. She’s a frequent guest on different Fox shows. I wonder if Fox will keep him on. Thoughts?

It’s really sad what’s happening to the GOP. They have pretty much decided that they are going to do nothing but fight everything that’s put before them for the next four years….kind of a dead party at the moment. I would really like to see them reinvent themselves, but I’m afraid it’s not going to happen. The moderates are pretty much gone and the ultra conservative, angry, hostile, extreme right wing is left. What are they going to do? John McCain seems to be in hiding with Bush. Colin Powell has spoken up, but he just gets put down by the party. Are they going to alienate everyone?

Thoughts?

Here’s the clip from youtube Gini…I’m sorry, but I just can’t believe a word this guy says. He’s nothing but a drama queen (king)! He just says what’s on his mind and never checks his facts.

It saddens me to see what’s going on today. I was raised in a Republican household and I always voted Republican until the last election. I’ve already told you why.

Bush retired just like his dad did. Daddy Bush even became friends with Clinton. It was kinda cool to see that.

I’m sorry, but I can’t drink the koolaid that’s all over Fox these days. Some of my favorite shows were on Fox until the bottom fell out of the economy thanks to crooks running wild on Wall Street while no one was minding the store. That’s what deregulation does….brings out the crooks! I’m sorry to see Capitalism die, but nobody is honest anymore. CEO salaries are obscene, while the workers can’t even unionize? What’s wrong with this picture? Everything!!! There are no more Lee Iococa’s out there.

Are you a CEO Sterling? If not, are you independently wealthy? Do you keep your money offshore to avoid paying taxes? If not, then why are you Republican? It’s turned into the rich man’s party. They don’t seem to care if the middle class exists or not. Well, I have news….without the middle class who is going to be spending money? Don’t they deserve to make an honest living? If we didn’t have unions, the large corporations would be importing Mexicans by the thousands to work in all the factories here. They work for peanuts, especially if they are illegal. IBM just laid off 5,000 workers and sent their jobs to India….professional jobs!

Lee Iococca did not take a salary from Chrysler until he got them back into the black back in the early 80’s. How many CEO’s would do that today? I’ll tell you…..none. The bankers ran the banking system into the ground and then had the audacity to take large bonuses at taxpayers expense. I’m sorry, but that’s not ethical and it’s not the “American” way! It’s pure greed and we have to change that. If that takes a little socialism, then so be it. Nobody is buying into the way the old system worked. Too many Americans lost their jobs in a recession that never should have happened. They are angry. Do you blame them?

I never suggested that we move towards socialism and definitely not communism!!! Republicans are the ones who call it Socialism, not the Dems. We need oversight, especially on Wall Street. Madoff threw attention off the really bad guys….the bank CEO’s and Hank Paulson, who comes from Goldman Sachs. Anyway, what’s done is done and I didn’t see McCain as the answer. My dad about had a heart attack when I told him I voted for Obama. I don’t talk politics with him anymore, needless to say.

I started listening to Keith and Rachel and they started to make alot sense to me. Pretend you’re a Democrat and listen to them sometime. I know lots of people who have lost their jobs here in Michigan — mostly auto industry related. My sister and her husband got buyouts from Chrysler, luckily, but they are too young to retire. My sister found another job at a good company, but her husband is having trouble. They may have to leave the state.

I am not from a poor family — upper middle class. My dad retired from GM and he has no worries. He’s the last of a dying breed. He was an engineer. Now those jobs are farmed out — to India, among other places in the world. If you walk around the campus at the University of Michigan you will see lots of foreigners who come here to get educated, then go home and take away American jobs. If I sound bitter, maybe I am. I am self employed and doing OK so far, but I have lost some business since last Fall.

More later…out of characters! LOL

What do you attribute that to?

What kind of proof do you want Gini? I’ve provided a few links to support my positions. Is it ok for Glenn Beck to talk (and lie) off the top of his head, but not anyone else? After all he is a commentator and he doesn’t have to check his facts. I like the stuff he’s doing about ACORN now. Why don’t you Google ACORN and find out about the contributions made by former Republican presidents Reagan and Bush, among others. If anyone is interested I will provide a link about that. If you’re as well informed as you state, you should already know.

Maybe I’ll look into that site more, but I don’t think I would agree with the Dog about anything. Maybe his bark is worse than his bite! Maybe not!

We are all Americans and we should come together and try to get along for the good of everyone. That’s where I stand. The Republicans were in power for 8 years and now it’s the Democrats turn. I don’t think either party has EVER been in office for more than 8 years at a time. I could be wrong but I don’t think so. It was time for a change. The Democrats can’t possibly mess things up any more than they already are. Oh, I know you think they can, but I don’t. You might be biased, but I’m not. I’m willing to give them a chance. I hope you will too!

Thanks, Alisyn, Dave and Clayton, for letting your viewers in on it :-) :-) :-)

I don’t know what time the AtSS became available (it wasn’t streaming in the minutes after Alisyn signed off at 8:30 a.m. this morning before the D-Day special, and the link from the Fox and Friends page was still showing Friday’s AtSS at that time, but the new one for today is there now!)

The reason I first started posting here was because I heard one of the Fox Sunday morning crew suggest last week that some students unplug the microphone at the graduation ceremony at Notre Dame. I couldn’t believe my ears. And we wonder why our children act out the way they do….poor little Piper. What are these people teaching their children? I’m very worried about the path we’re going down here. When I was in school we were taught that we should respect the President, whether or not we agreed with him. If we don’t, let him know with protests, etc. but we shouldn’t encourage outright hatred and sabotage, which is what I’m seeing so much of.

Anyway, have a nice day Lori. I’m off to church.

Barbara and Laura Bush and Condi Rice were NOT for overturning Roe v. Wade! Check your facts! Bush had a lot more blood on his hands than Obama. Stop making mountains out of nothing! BTW, I voted for Bush. He disappointed me, but I would never disrespect him. He has to live with himself.

Sorry Ed, you are wrong….check your facts! I know people who use it, but don’t take my word for it. Do some research. If you find something bad about it, post it here. Carol, the students at Columbia were protesting Bush’s policies…and that’s fine. Here’s a blurb from the News that day….

Thirty to 40 demonstrators — some opposed to the war in Iraq, others critical of the prescription drug program — gathered across the street from the auditorium. MU freshman Nick Pretnar, wearing aviator sunglasses and a pope costume, said it was worth making the half-hour trip from Columbia to express his disapproval of Bush.

It wasn’t the same as protesting at a Commencement speech, especially when Obama’s policy on abortion is the same as Bush’s. Roe v. Wade is still intact. Bush’s mother, wife and Condi Rice support Roe v. Wade. As for stem cell research, Obama is promoting cord blood research and other research, NOT embryonic research. Bush banned all of it, which was ludicrous. That’s why people go to Europe for treatment….like Farrah Fawcett going to Germany…we are behind them now.

Dog & Sterling…..the elderly DO get treated in the United States, whether we can afford it or not. The drug companies give them free drugs if they can’t afford them. They also have Medicare. We are paying higher taxes because of it. Why not put a system in place that works for everyone? It wouldn’t cost much more. Costs can be kept down when managed properly, and no one would have to go broke before qualifying for it. Our country could be much more prosperous. We just have to do it right. Norway is a good example. Be sure to watch that Michael Moore film…you will learn something….and get more wrinkles in your brains! I am FOR NATIONAL HEALTHCARE because our system is broken and we have to do something very soon….and many of you just don’t understand that. I liked Michael Moore’s movie…he put a lot into that movie and just because you think he’s liberal doesn’t mean you should hate him. Rush Limbaugh and Hannity are not tolerant of any views but their own….they drown out what they don’t want to hear. I see a lot of that going on here as well. All I’m asking is that you use your brains. You don’t have to agree 100% with everything said on Fox. I actually like some Fox shows, but I’m not ready to admit which ones yet. I’ll just say I agree with Huckabee about a lot of things…..and disagree about a few things. Glenn Beck makes me want to puke because I think he’s a complete phony.

Here is the truth (substantiated by investigative reporting) on a trivial matter made into a big deal by the drive-by media: Glenn Beck did NOT lie on “The View”! That show of opinionated women is not one that I waste my time watching, but it seems that the lies about him are not being refuted, so check this out from TV Newser:

Breitbart.TV’s Scott Baker breaks down how Beck actually wasn’t lying about the Amtrak incident.

http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=352443&widget=1

I really cannot agree with the assertion that “the Fox Network shows seem to dwell on trivial issues…things that most people just really don’t want to hear about” … the facts are that most people prefer the Fox News Channel over their competitors. Carol, that’s all a bunch of BS and I think you know it. Post a link that shows his refusal, or don’t lie. Bush let in the illegals so his corporate buds could hire cheap labor…another lie! States decide how to distribute welfare…another lie. You’re right about employers not being able to afford healthcare, however, because that’s how broken the system is. For once we find truth in Carol! Amazing!

I apologize to anyone who thinks he’s someone! I used to listen to him before I found out what a hypocrite he is because of his drug problem, but I can understand why he needs drugs. It must be painful to carry around that large frame of his.

Ah…an age thang, you see, so one does recognize an apology when it is given, and when it is not sincere at all. lol One day you will to…..

Point and match, I think? lol :)

Ah Carolyn aka Carol. Well done, and a reminder that all is not as it seems, hum? lol She is “all over the map” as suggested, and does have a hard time remembering, for sure. And has changed her mind as well, about the “crew of F&F on the weekends” apparently, hum? ha! lol But, not unexpected at all. She dised her da, after all, for being “too old and not modern thinking”…and that speaks volumes, to a “seasoned” citizen, every time. lol hum? lol

ALRIGHT! That is enough.

P&P, I have said this a number of times and this is the last I will say it. If you can’t ignore it, then don’t come. Simple as that.

Liz, You are not here to debate or learn. In my many years of being on political sites I have seen people like you come and go. Post your opinion, but no matter how much you protest I know your motivation is to disrupt.

You have so far accomplished that, you shall not bait me, nor shall your rants go unread however, I have been and will continue to ignore your post since they have no merit in my humble opinion.

But the baiting has to stop, unless you are too juvenile to withhold that normally toxic pen of yours.

Should you become a more respectful blogger I could change my opinion, but those who cannot keep their word have a very long road to recovery in my eyes. Just because Ms Alisyn has not read your more inflammatory remarks in time past, doesn’t mean she can’t see how you have been posting. Of that I can be certain.

What I am saying is that we could get along if you would just stop thinking you know everything and stop being what you accuse others of, being self-righteous . Heaven knows I wish I know just a little bit. But I am wise enough to know that I know I don’t know enough.

I warned of this before, but this continued hostility may result in the blog being shut down at the end of the show. It would not be the first time it has happened. And if that is your goal, then you are moving in that direction.

I’m pretty sure we would all regret that in the long run.

Grow up. No one is going to change anyone’s mind here and we are ALL entitled to our opinion, but not entitled to shove it down someone’s throat time after time after time.

Sorry for the length and any hurt feelings. But I am sick of this and so should you all.

All my posts from 3:04 PM and on until 4:00 pm today were copied and pasted from the greenroom blog from May 17 forward and are “Liz’s” comments even though the “Comment by Liz” did not get copied on all of them. Alisyn: I did this because we have been baraged by this tone for over 4 weeks now, not just today when you finally noticed that things went to heck when she showed up again today. Having a discourse of ideas is one thing, but just yelling and insulting is another. Many of us have tried and failed to resist responding. But, then new people show up all the time and they also respond to her argmentative tone and wish to defend their opinions and this seems to escalate her again. I take responsibility for my lack of control. I do not speak for anyone else. I have vowed to not acknowledge her a couple of times and have failed because she attacks my friends- the real ones and the ones on Fox! LOL. I will try again to help to end the negativity here.

Hi Roy:
Thank you. The sad thing about “Liz” or whoever she is is this: she came here with a goal sponsored by either entitlement, ignorance, intolerance, a group who is paying her to distrupt, or complete naivte, or all of the above. The stubborn refusal to hear paired with her lack of control of her emotions is typical of young people these days. These are the kids who will cut you off on the road and then flip you off even though they were in the wrong. These are the same kids who collect food stamps while in college and then go to the tanner and nail salon every week. They can do no wrong and think they entire world revolves around them and that no one else has any right to call them on it. It is a disease that Obama has capitalized upon. “I want something for nothing and don’t you dare interfere with my pursuit of the best of everything even though I never worked for it or earned it”.

Comment by Gini

Carolyn…hum. I don’t believe you are the negative one here. I stand by the original statement, that all are welcome here, always. So, if it stops that would be a good thing, I think? We’ll see if it does indeed, or if there is yet more to come. I stand right there by your side kiddo…as I am not confused at all, hum? lol {a benefit of ’seasoned’ perhaps?} ~~giggle~~ lol :) :) With cookies in hand, of course. lol :)

Chas: Yeah, a reporter from the Miami Herald says the mancow thing is a set up. I wish they would water board the guys who took that little girl here in Michigan last week. Two registered pedophile living in her neighborhood are suspected of kidnapping her and she hasn’t been found yet. I don’t hear anyone spending much time on things like that but they can’t shut up about 3 instances of waterboarding 3 terrorists 5 years ago! I just don’t get it when so much worse is being done by sex offenders and criminals to innocent kids all over America.

Doesn’t really look like a fake video to me! LOL

Mancow took a lot of heat for doing that, but Oberman challenged Hannity to do it for $10,000 after he said he would do it for charity…and then he chickened out, so Mancow decided to do it for $10,000 for his charity….and he did. It sure looked real to me and Mancow has been on Fox for a long time. He used to be on Fox & Friends every day….they did a short segment with him from his radio show in Chicago.

It is sad that a 27-year-old Michigander has so little respect for the informed viewpoints of bloggers here that are different from hers and makes the erroneous assumption that everyone who does not subscribe to her viewpoints are not intelligent or well educated. Unfortunately, thanks to Carolyn, we are reminded that Liz’s post that are so very telling. Sadly, there are so many like Liz on the U of M campus in Ann Arbor.

In her own words, Liz said “I am not from a poor family — upper middle class. My dad retired from GM and he has no worries. He’s the last of a dying breed. He was an engineer. Now those jobs are farmed out — to India, among other places in the world. If you walk around the campus at the University of Michigan you will see lots of foreigners who come here to get educated, then go home and take away American jobs.”

There are so many erroneous assumptions in that one paragraph alone. I feel sorry for her dad, who paid for her college education and is now at risk of losing HIS healthcare (not that Liz would know the details of GM bankruptcy which puts her dad’s retirement benefits in jeopardy). Those jobs are not farmed out to India or other places in the world. I do see lots of international students at the U of M who come here to be educated, many of them as doctors, engineers, scientists, IT specialists, etc. There are not enough applicants from US citizens to fill the graduate programs in these fields, not only at the U of Michigan.

Carolyn, international students come to the States on student visas which have expiry dates, and most do return to their home countries and become academic faculty, or government/industry leaders, etc, in their home countries. Some have stayed here to work, but they can do so only for up to 18 months (if they graduate with a Masters degree), provided they have a job offer for “optional practical training” (OPT), or for up to 3 years (if they graduate with a Ph.D.) for “academic training” to become researchers or university faculty. These are among the best and brightest brains — take for example Jerry Yang, one of the co-founders of Yahoo, who came to the States from Taiwan for college, and look at what he has built with his brainpower.

In recent years it has been harder for international graduates to do so, especially with the receding job market. They have to compete for the highly coveted H1-B visa (limited to something like 60,000 a year only, if I am not mistaken). Some do apply for permanent residency (“green cards”) and some eventually succeed in applying for U.S. citizenship, but the process can take something like eight years, doing it the legal way, which is the way law-abiding aspiring citizens have been applying for citizenship. It does not make any sense for these highly qualified Masters and Ph.D. graduates to become illegal immigrants, as they would not qualify for jobs in the multinational industries and academia if they did not have legal paperwork.

Searchers found two bodies and the first confirmed debris — a briefcase containing an Air France Flight 447 ticket — in the Atlantic Ocean near where the jetliner is believed to have crashed, a Brazil military official said Saturday.

The French agency investigating the disaster, meanwhile, said airspeed instruments were not replaced as the maker recommended before the plane disappeared in turbulent weather nearly a week ago during a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris with 228 people aboard.

All were killed, the world’s worst commercial air accident since 2001, and Air France’s deadliest plane crash.

Rose, I am not sure about the details but the husband of a friend’s sister came from Canada and it took over 8 years for him to get his citizenship legally. I am not sure I am following your train of thought. Are they being forced to become illegals by not fulfilling the qualifications and just staying here?

I have often wondered how many American citizens have been displaced in the very competative college entrance by foreign applicants. While I don’t claim to have an opinion one way or the other I am just curious.

Comment by Gini

It sounded more like their creds must include a PHD, for a chance at one of the applications, Carolyn? Would have to reread this interesting comment, from Rose, again. And one must be legal, to take advantage of anything available, so being an illegal citizen would not serve. To go home, is not optimum, as one’s advantages would be decreased? Better chance for their brain power in the good ol’ USA, would seem. lol

Two international space station crew members wrapped up a successful spacewalk Friday, the first since the size of the station’s crew expanded from three to six last month.

The effort, which prepared the station for the addition of a new Russian module, started more than a half-hour late after sensors registered elevated carbon dioxide readings in the Orlon-MK spacesuits worn by both spacewalkers.

High concentrations of the gas can cause dizziness, nausea and other problems, but both crew members said they felt fine and a spokesman for the Russian space agency said the problem resolved itself.

If I may, I’d like to suggest a few things that might help make this blog a more fun and stimulating place to be. First, thank you, Liz for your apology; and thank you for accepting mine (or at least I think you have). We have discussed a great many issues in this blog. Some, like abortion, do not lend themselves to compromise. Therefore, it is unlikely that ANYONE on either side of the issue will change his or her mind as a result of any attempt/s at persuasion. Some of them hit close to home; therefore they are likely to stir emotions within some of us. I suggest if any of us reads a comment that runs contrary to what we believe is the truth, we should count to ten, swallow some Pepto Bismol (or something), and simply type into the blog what we believe to be the truth. Can we simply state our ideas without insulting someone? If we’re not careful, we can easily insult a person by insulting the IDEA. For example, it’s okay to say, “That idea is wrong.” It’s okay to say, “I believe you are mistaken.” It’s even okay to say that an idea makes you angry. It is NOT okay to say, “That idea is stupid.” It is not okay to say, “What’s wrong with you?” Do you all see what I’m saying? It’s all in the semantics. If we say an idea is “stupid” or “crazy” , we say the person who STATED the idea is “stupid” or “crazy”. Let’s all start listening to OURSELVES before we hit the “submit comment” button.

Police said a bottle filled with a corrosive liquid was hurled onto a crowd in the busy Mong Kok district, injuring 24 people. None of the victims, aged 4 to 49, were seriously burned.
