At a personal level one of the worst things a person can do is start borrowing money to pay for borrowed money. That normally only delays the problem and compounds it dramatically. We are in for one rough ride over the next year.

I would use the money on my upcoming HONEYMOON!

To heck with wall street, When I was running short last year nobody came to the rescue. I went out and got job #3, Problem solved!

Regarding “specifics”, will there really be an opportunity for all the read the “fine print”? Or will this be another which has “hidden details” (aka ear marks)?

Why isn’t the media looking into the connection with the Bail Out bill and the group Acorn? It makes me so nervous that this is a corrupt bill. Please find out the truth.

and nothing in this bill about repealing the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), which is what compelled the banks to offer home loans to low income people, and gave birth to the “subprime market”.

Why is there a rescure plan watch this video of a Congressional hearings regarding Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as Democrat after Democrat tells regulators that there is nothing wrong with either. People saw this coming four years ago and many Congressional and Senate leaders who were taking Money fought new regulations regarding Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac tooth and nail. Not being political Alisyn just infuriated that my Children will be paying this off this debacle (which is not finished yet) until they are old and grey.

I agree that Palin just needs to be herself. She has been pounded with so much info and tutored not to say this or that to such an extent that it is showing in her interviews. One thing she should be very aware of though. The more Biden talks the more likely it is that he will say something stupid or in complete contrast to what his running mate has already said.

What to do with $3100? Maybe a couple tanks of gas? Or a month’s worth of groceries? Or maybe a trip to NYC to stand outside the studio and watch F&F during the taping? (At least until FNC security “escorts” me away. LOL) Yeah! Now that sounds good!

It will be interesting to hear the details in the bailout plan and about the proposed manner in which it will be paid back.
I have the sneaking suspicion that like all gov’t programs this initial cost is only the beginning. Also that this gov’t entity, being created to handle the buying of the bad debt, will never go away.

I want to see some people go to jail over this mess! People talk about more regulations and less regulations, but what about the law? People are not allowed to cook the books and walk away with bonuses. That’s called fraud, embezzlement, robbery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frank should be recalled. He’s repeatedly violated the public trust. Dodd and others should be held accountable too. Members of Congress who received money from any bailed-out institution should have to contribute that money to the “rescue”. Let them pay for their bad judgment. That includes Obama, number two in receiving money from Fannie & Freddie (after Dodd). Heads of the congressional committees that failed us should be removed from their positions.

I had a thought about the election, not the bailout, but heres my thoughts. Has America backed itself into a corner with no good way out. im too young to remember the riots of the 60’s but i do remember black america’s outrage and riots in response to the rodney king case and i remember the venom the democrats had when they claimed bush stole the last election. my fear is, if Mccain wins with ANY irregularities, what will the response be from black america? {{perhaps nationwide rioting?}}

I enjoyed Huckabee’s new show also. It seemed to move way too fast for some reason.

Barney Frank should be put in solitary confinement, because I just can’t stand to see or hear the crook!

I want to hear that along with this bailout that the law that set this all in motion, starting back to Jimmy Carter up to Clinton, gets thrown out and banks and lenders are allowed to go back giving loans “only” to those people that can aford it and are not forced to give it to people who don’t have money because of their race.

Freddie and Fannie has been known as a Democratic piggy bank for a number of years. A lot of heads should roll over that bizarre marriage between business and politics.

It amazes me, that this plan hasn’t even been written up yet and the politicians are already spending any profit that might be made from the plan, and as usual they want to spend it on corrupt organizations such as Acorn. There should be no spending included in this package and any profit made, if there is any profit made, should go back to the tax payer to give them some relief. Any spending done should be up to the tax payer not the politicians who don’t know how to budget money antway.

I would give the $3,100 to Obama’s half brother, the one in which Fox showed living in an awful place getting $1 a month to live on. As far as Barney Frank goes, I am originally from Massachusetts and I do think Barney is a kind man but he is definitely out of his element. He is find to have the mail delivered to the shutins and all the other nice things he has done , but he needs to go. By the way, the bailout was necessary for the financial interests in this country.

My question is, WHO is the person who attached ACORN to the bail out plan..the name needs to be put out there for all to see. The bail out plan is already beyond belief and now they attach an org. that is under investigation for voter fraud AND who has come out for OBAMA…

I have an idea, how about all those law makers take a cut in their income. I agree that something has to be done, but I only agree because the government created the stage for this exploitation of the mortgage market and many politicians profited from the abuse. We all have to bite the bullet and get the financial markets back on the tracks, but some people d@mn well better pay a heavy price for this mess!!!!!

In response to why we in the general public distrust politicans that’s easy. While running for office they spout all the things they are going to do, all the things they want to change. They create platforms that sound nice, but never follows. They give wonderful speeches with all sorts of promise that seem to disappear in a flash. The do debates that are more like riducluous sideshows. They then get elected then go off on their own agendas that seem to revolve around whoever donated the most money.

Oh, they propose legislation, but then everyone tags on so many ridculous admentments that tag on money for projects in their own districts. Then the try to describe themselves as Statesmen.

Distrust all boils down to money. Why would anyone spend so much for a job that pays so little? Makes most people wonder what they are getting the side, especially when they promote taxes for us but seem to find the loopholes for themselves.

P.S. every show on fox should have a blog like this so we can all rant and rave day and night. It would be health issue in helping to prevent ulcers and help save money on Tums and Pepto.

I don’t like the way that the democrats are taking over and not even being open to other ideas that can have been put into action. Do they feel that much of a threat that they have to step on the little guy worse.

Why don’t they use their own money and bail Wall street out? They have made enough off of us.

The Constitution is being completely shredded by this bailout. Whatever happened to the concept of “Limited Government”. This is the concept that led to the “Enumerated Powers Clause” in the Ninth Amendment where the only powers granted to the federal government are those that are specifically named in the Constitution and the Tenth Amendment which states that every other power and responsibility belongs to the various states. You can’t have limited government and have the government take over everything including our responsibilities to make good deals for ourselves and pay our bills including our mortgages. This would include everyone including lenders and borrowers doing their homework and using sound thinking instead of relying on real estate brokers and loan officers for advice when all that those brokers and loan officers want to do is sell you the biggest house and the largest mortgage so that they make the most money. Limited government went out the door with personal responsibility. Apparently, it’s okay to use the bully power of the government to hold a gun to your head, steal your money and convert it to the use and benefit of those who have been irresponsible. Our congress, the fox, is in charge of the henhouse.

Instead of giving 20 percent of the profit to groups like ACORN to commit voter fraud the government should do what Sarah Palin did in Alaska with her states oil revenues. Cut a check to American tax payers who paid for this fiasco. Why give the money to these groups? I do not care if is only twenty dollars. I had rather see it go to the Average American than political and social organizations with Agendas that many of us oppose.

Better dinners at McDonalds or a new DVD for my Children rather than one dollar for the 501’s and groups that will help create another Financial Fiasco ten years from now whether they are from the right or the left Alisyn. Congress should give the money back to the Taxpayers

What Kelly Wright just reported about Obama and what he was saying, proves that this man is not ready to lead the country. What a mess, plain and simple. McCain and Bush brought this to the attention of Congress years ago, and because there is this “Bush” hatred, the Democrats blocked them every step of the way. All of these people need to be replaced in Congress. Term limits……is a real good idea. There is such corruption in Congress it is unbelievable. Of course most of them are the Democrats, why isn’t there an investigation?

The fat-cat CEO’s of these institutions who continually lined their pockets and afforded themselves a hefty bonus year after year by taking from the cookie jar NEED to be held accountable. Why not look at the books and take back what they skimmed? Sure would help pay for this mess. I know that will never happen, but it’s nice to dream, isn’t it?

Seems to be a lot of hype for a Vice-Presidential debate. In (and I’m not going to say how many elections) has my vote ever changed because of who was second on the ticket.

Pay off some credit card debt!

Why are the same people (Frank, Dodd, etc.) who allowed this mess to happen allowed anything at all to do with a “rescue” plan? They’ve already shown incredibly poor judgment and essentially violated the public trust. The taxpayers aren’t buying anything from people who have lost all credibility. There should be a Taxpayer’s Conditions of Bailout bill, including no money to anything other than paying back the bailout, moratorium on earmarks, freeze congressional salaries and limit their expenditures (let’s post it all online), action by the Senate Ethics Committee, etc.

The only ones on the taxpayer’s side are the House GOP, and Nancy Pelosi says they’re “unpatriotic”.

Since when is it Congress’ job to determine what someone gets when leaving a company? I understand about “golden parachutes” but what about the “golden parachutes” that members of Congress get? They only have to work (and I use the term loosely) one or, at most, two terms to – not be eligible – but to get benefits the average Joe Six-pack could never imagine. Will this BAILOUT include them in this part of this garbage? I have heard MANY times that they worked until after midnight — AWWWWWWWW! That is not water you hear dripping, it is blood dripping from my heart since this is the saddest story I have heard yet today. And they want to leave DC and head home until after the election. Spare me! I am dumb, not stupid.

It is time we Americans were all told of the corrupt relationship our government has with crooks. Why did ACORN get any more federal money once they were found guilty of crimes??????

As a nurse I am disgusted to see people who barely work receive these enormous payments while hardworking people like teachers, nurses, police, etc. barely get by. Mr. Fishman should be ashamed and decline the golden parachute.

The CEO from WaMu that received the “golden parachute” should be allowed to keep his money. It’s the people who negotiated this deal with him that should be prosecuted. They mislead him and the public.

If we were to actually get $3,100, I’d use it to make mortgage payments. That’s how this problem needs to be solved, from the bottom up. We should give the CEOs and members of Congress that caused this mess actual lead parachutes and push them off the tallest buildings on Wall Street. The taxpayers shouldn’t be bailing them out.

What in the world does congress know about $$$$ other than finding ways to spend ours. Financial experts should have hammered out the details not congress.

Everything about this bailout sounds so wrong, but they have used fear to paint us into a corner for sure. The federal governemt should never be in the business of turning a profit, but if that should happen every cent of it should go toward the national debt.

It is insane what these CEO’s were getting in bonuses. If these companies are stupid enough to agree to pay these CEO’s kind of money they deserve to go under and “NOT BE BAILED OUT”. What bothers me the most these CEO’s are getting this money even when the company executives know they are not financially sound. These CEO’s should be giving this money back. How much less would the government have to spend to bail out these financial institutions when they get some of this insane bonuses back.

WAMU Exec Golden Parachute shoud be paid in shares of the company at the rate that they were valued on the day he was hired. (For example: if the stock was worth $1/share that day, give him 19 million shares. If it is only worth 1 cent when he left, making his shares worth “only” $190K rather than 19 mil, then I suppose his reward would reflect what his tenure did for the company.)

Where can we go to read the whole bailout bill? I have concerns about any % going to ACORN if this does work.

I am wondering if they are still planning to throw away our money on groups like Acorn. I understand that in the original plan, 20% of the money was to go to these groups. Also, is there going to be a reform of Freddie Mac and Fannie May? Is there going to be a repeal of the Community Reinvestment Act?

These items are poison pills to any deal if you ask me. I could agree with a clean bill, but I don’t hold out any hope. There is just too much arrogance and corruption in Washington.

If one dime of this bailout ends up in the pockets of any of the politicians involved with negotiating this deal, they should be tared, feathered and deported!

To pay for this $700,000,000,000 bailout the gov’t will have to sell treasury notes. Assuming a 3% interest paid on that (it will probably have to be higher to get these sold) not only are we ponying up the initial amount but another $21,000,000,000 (That is 21 billion) in interest to pay out to those that buy the t bills to pay for this. That doesn’t count the other $500 billion the gov’t has commited to pay to bail out Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG and others. Throw another $15 billion in interest for those.

Allison, in regards to the bailout, I’m still concerned if Acorn is still poised to steal our tens of millions of dollars. Did we get sold down the river on this one ? I sure hope not. Thanks Bob.

I think we “The People” have had enough of this crap. We hear about the CEO’s walking away with millions yet can’t keep the banks or what ever company afloat. Our view, take what they have essentially stolen and invest it back into the company. I mean how in God’s name can they say they are failing all the while these people are making millions and then we are told if we “The People” don’t help we are all doomed…. and then as if that’s not enough our Government who is supposed to be looking out for us is doing what, taking care of themselves first with making sure such crooked people such as Acorn will be getting money….. Please find out about ACORN in the bailout package. I hope it’s not included in the package. I don’t want my tax money going to an organization like that. I thought this was supposed to get us out of this mess we’re in, not sink us in it more.

what was the decision regarding acorn in the bailout agreement?

How do we know thee are no special interest groups receiving any of this money? It was reported on Fox that there was some and that some of the money they got would end up in Obama’s hand, campaign or whatever. Why would there be ANY special interest groups getting any money or could there be any ‘other’ pork attached to this bailout?

On today’s show, there was a discussion of the amazing golden parachutes being
handed out to CEO’s of finanical institutions involved in the mortgage crisis.

Greedy capitalists don’t hand out huge bonuses for massive failures. Something
else is at work & that something would be POLITICS.

These CEO’s know all about how $100’s of billions were loaned to folks who
could never pay it back. And, they know who is to blame for it.

The golden parachutes are really “golden gag-orders” to make sure the
CEO’s keep quiet (at least long enough for the guilty parties to cover their
tracks).

Prohibiting the “golden parachutes” might get some of the CEO’s to sing to the media about what really happened, & that could be very interesting…

Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and Chuck Schumer should have been banned from these bailout negotiations. They failed to acknowledge that there was a problem when the red flags went up in 2006. They are scrambling to cover their butts.

With my $3,100 I will fill up my gas tank twice! What troubles me is that I’ve heard many politicians say that part of this problem was caused by Washington not doing its job (Both McCain and Obama said this during the debate and they said there should be accountability). How will that accountability in Washington be realized after the money is distributed and the urgency has calmed??? Isn’t it great that the legislators contributed to this problem, but we taxpayers should feel bad for them because they were up all night deciding what to do with our money???? When are politicians going to be held personally, financially responsible for the errors the taxpayers get stuck paying for????

1) the politicians should pay a portion of their pay to the bailout because they could have prevented it,
2) No CEO of the failed companies should recieve and payout because the company failed, that money should be taken to repay
3) if congress allows the bail out and allows these CEO’s to keep any portion of that money the American people should start a class action lawsuit(s) and recover the money severance pay from all the CEO’s, and management.

Frankley I dont think we should bail these companies out, we should just let the market correct itself, and all management and CEO should be looking at jail time for running these companies into the position they are in and stealing money through these loans they made.

Does it realy mater what we think, once elected our political leaders will do what they want. Their eagerness to provide this bailout only makes me believe that our politcians have personal investments in those companies being bailed out. hhhmmmmmmmm. makes you wonder what their real reasons are.

I think that politicians have lost touch with the lower to middle class people. They need to live on $600 a week, take home pay for at least six months. Maybe then they will pay closer attention to the big companies and their CEOs. They need to base their decisions on the voters as a whole and not what is best for their political future.

buy my 8yo son badly needed fall clothes and shoes for school, pay his school lunch forward a few months, catch up on the bills we’re behind on and go to the grocery store at least ONCE without having to pass on something we need, but can’t really afford.

i have prided myself in my ability to provide for my child on my income alone, but the ridiculous gas prices that spills over into every other daily essential for living has put a HUGE damper on our disposable income of late, especially considering i drive 80 miles round trip a day to work.

In answer to the subject question, I would pay off some credit card debt.

I would like to add, however, that I agree with storm’s comment about publicizing who put the A.C.O.R.N. clause in this bill. Not only who wrote it IN, but those that have fought to KEEP it. THAT would provide some of the accountability that Frank Luntz was just talking about.

I don’t know what “average Americans” these people are talking to (answer = none) but THIS average American is QUITE tired of footing the bill for those who can’t or won’t pay theirs. I suggest that Governor Palin just be herself. She is truly a unique individual and very smart. She shouldn’t worry about not knowing everything. None of the candidates do, but there is something not very genuine when they think that they do.

This guy that only worked three weeks and got 19 million dollars was a real shrewd guy and pretty greedy. No one is worth that kind of money. But worse yet, I hold those people on the board of directors of that firm that negotiated or offered that deal to him. They all should be removed from their positions in companies that offer these kind of over the top deals. They need to hire people who have really had to work hard in their lives just to make a decent living not an excessive one. They will know how to handle tight money problems without wasting a cent.

About that bailout plan. I don’t believe in bailing out anyone or any business that fails. I own a business and I have to figure out my own bail outs sometimes. Most of the time the government involvement in issues like this amounts to secret deals and payoffs that we don’t find out about for years that amounted to just more fleecing of the taxpayers. I’m fed up with government as usual!!!

Because of my work schedule, my husband taped the debate for me. I watched it Saturday and thought it was a knock-out for McCain. Now I’m hearing members of the Dem Party saying that “they had a deal” on this economic “bailout” and McCain didn’t need to come back. It is very clear to me that the Democratic Party just doesn’t get fact that the people sent to Washington were sent there by the American people to work “for the American people”. It is the lack of this simple reality that ultimately caused me to leave the Democratic Party. Question: Does this bill provide money for Democrat PACs like Acorn? I had heard that they were one of the beneficiaries for the 700B dollar largess that we are being forced to pay for.

There is plenty of greed and malfeasance to criticize: on Wall Street and in Washington. I don’t think that the case of the WaMu CEO is a good example, however striking the numbers.

1. It is not remotely possible that he is responsible for the failure of the bank. 3 weeks on the job is too short a time to have any kind of measurable impact.
2. The likely scenario is that WaMu was in trouble, and needed an outstanding CEO to try to turn things around. In order to get someone of proven competence, they would have to induce him to leave his current position. (If he’s that good, someone is already paying him!)
3. Part of the inducement would likely be payments and guarantees to make him “whole” for any money he would have walked away from. His previous employers may have., for instance, offered him stock options which he had to abandon when he went to WaMu.

Please find a better example…

McCain to me won the debate because he was quick to the point. Obama to me sound like he was just saying things to say them not to have a point.

As for the bailouts, I wonder what Sarbanes Oxley taught us? For every law and procedure, there is greed and disregard which drives people for self gain – with no regard for the business, stakeholders, or effect on overall economy. I understand why our government needs to “bail out”, but am sickened. The government will TAKE the money from me to pay for their irresponsibility. We get the government we deserve America. We pick ‘em. Mediocre, unispired, career handshaking politicians interested in meeting in the middle – not moving us forward and fiercely protecting our freedoms, borders, financial infrastructure, or hold true to our Constitution.

As for Sarah Palin vs Joe Biden. She needs to be herself. Quit listening to those that are trying to change her to conform to elitist media. The WSJ is reporting that the legislation will include provisions giving Treasury the ability to work with cash-strapped homeowners whose mortgages are purchased by the federal government to refinance into a more affordable mortgage. I’m paying mine, but why should I? Where do I sign up! So what if my credit will take a hit but since we’ve become a country where the govt. will rescue us from ourselves, who needs credit!

Glad you talked about the gas shortage here in the SouthEast. In the Charlotte area it is as big news as the bank bailout and the debate.
I drove past 10 gas stations yesterday and only one had gas. 2 hrs later they were sold out too!

People are sitting in the gas stations because they don’t have the gas to drive home. Fist fights are breaking out over the gas lines.

Very few people know about them or what they have done in the last 10 years to register minorities fraudulently and are now in court in several States for voter fraud cases, and how Obama was involved with them and legally represented them, or about their contribution to the mortgage FRAUD that led to this financial collapse.

The bailout is the result of manipulation of financial markets to support a social policy, instead of supporting a financial policy. We see it again by the fact that the politicians are already dividing up any possible gains and routing those gains to “pet projects” rather than returning the gains back to the tax payers by paying down the debt. In other words, they found a way to HIDE THEIR EARMARKS IN THE BAILOUT.

Please go after Barnie Frank and Chris Dodd. Also please go after and spend every day from now until the election about voter fraud and research ACORN. In addition, I don’t know if you all have looked into the story in St. Louis, MO about the two judges who have threatened people who say anything against Barrach Obama.

What I would do with the money is do my own investing. I still am angry about this bill for several reasons. I feel once again we are being shafted. Case in point the profits going especially to Acorn. To me it’s nothing more than rewarding corrupt people. I could think of better things to use if there are any profits for to benefit the taxpayer. I am outraged that ACORN, Senator Obama’s community action group, will receive funds if and when there are profits from this bailout. If ACORN continues in the bill, that is a 20% reduction to the taxpayers. ALL the profit should go back to the U.S. Treasury.

I have been selling real estate for years We had huge medical bills. Seeing this coming, we sold our home of 23 years and downsized to a less priced town home. No one bailed us out!

Voter Fraud

You wonder how voter fraud happens in Alabama? I have informed the poll workers several time verbally and twice have filled out their forms telling them that my wife passed away over a year ago. The last primary the probate judge was in the voting place and the poll worker called him over to explain the problem of my deceased wife remaining on the voter rolls despite my having filed the forms to get her off the roll to prevent voter fraud. His response was for me to bring a copy of her death certificate to the probate office and filing the form there. I told him he needs to start getting his staff to do the job they are getting paid to do. Lazy public officials is why voter fraud is so easy in Alabama!

If the entire plan can be done through the house Republicans plan (with less or no taxpayer dollars) why aren’t we doing it?

If the valuations can be changed by changing the mark to market accounting practice which gives a false low valluation, why aren’t we doing it?

With my share of $3100 I could pay down my mortgage, or pay down my car loan, or pay down some of my husband’s medical bills, or pay my taxes (if the bill ever gets sent to us), or fly to Minnesota to visit my 101 year old mother, or get the house painted (I already painted the barn this summer), or take care of some incidental needs such as shoes, underwear, winter jacket, a new flag for the flag pole (this one’s getting ratty and faded, but I can repair the tears), repair the leaf picker-upper so I can start clearing this autumn’s leaf drop, new rake so I can rake up the leaves in places where the mechanical rake can’t reach……..I could go on and on, but already have! I’m not so sure I’m reassured that the FBI is looking into any fraud and abuse – they may be directed to do so on the part of the “private industry” but there is no way that the Democratic congress is going to allow them access – remember William Jefferson from Louisiana? As a student, this bailout really turns my stomach. I am maxed out on federal loans…which have not increased although everything else has…and I could really use that money for food, rent, gas, books and some other basic necessities of life. I understand why the bailout is necessary but it doesn’t really help me pay my bills.

As far as the VP debate, I would like to see Sarah Palin get her groove back. And, I think she needs to use her perceived “weaknesses” as her strengths. Even though she might not have a lot of experience, at least it is executive experience and at least she hasn’t been tainted by Washington. As far as foreign policy, well that wasn’t a huge part of her job but she’s obviously willing to learn and I’m fairly sure there are some past Presidents with comparable experience.

Finally, there is one news story I haven’t seen you guys really cover. I live in Georgia and we are running out of gas!!! I would say about 70% of the stations around here are out and when you find gas we’re paying about $4.19 a gallon. We’re all wondering why this problem is taking so long to sort out and when we can see some relief. Please, if you guys have any knowledge to pass on it would be appreciated!

This whole thing smells a lot like taxation without representation. Let me get this straight: The banks, with government oversight, are awash in bad debt and corruption and failing everywhere…with our money. The government that was overseeing these banks and failed to ever see this coming, or ignored the problem, are now going to monitor this new program…with our money. Because the banks were so greedy they gave out loans to people who didn’t deserve them or couldn’t afford them…using our deposits to make these loans…is now going to have access to $700Billion dollars more…of our money. Yet the only say any of us is going to have in this whole process is to sit back and watch the same congressmen who allowed this mess to develop in the first place decide how to distribute…even more of our money. Personally, I think any one of those congressmen who allowed this to happen and is now up for reelection this November should lose those elections by a landslide. I have been unemployed since March. After 38 years of continuous employment in middle management. In this hedious economy, I have had to return to college in order to be qualified to work I had to cash in my 401K to pay off all my bills. And now it looks like I will still be unemployed when my extended unemployment runs out. Will the government bail me out? No, I have to pay my rent, my car loan and the rest of expenses. If I don’t I will be homeless, carless and on the street. Why do I now have to pay for a bunch of greedy creeps (Wall Street and DC) so that they can keep their unnessesarily extravagant life style. ALL of these guys need to give up everything for their actions. I didn’t do anything criminal and I may have to give up everything. Why shouldn’t they have to do the some and then do some time in jail too? Golden parachutes are wrong and no failed executive should be given one. However, since when is it the government’s job to dictate what anyone gets paid in the private sector? If they have committed fraud by financing Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, then they all should be prosecuted. But you cannot have a government that determines someone’s private contract with their employer. How would you like it if the government restricted the amount of money that you were paid for the wonderful job that you do? You are entitled to have your agent negotiate the best terms that they can for you with your employeer.

Let’s talk about College Students for Obama too. To give them a nice lesson in Obama-ism, the smart, hard working students with good GPAs should be forced to “fairly” share their high grades with lazy students with low grades. That’s what Obama wants for everything else in the country, it should be only fair that college student immediately reduce their GPAs that they worked hard to earn and give them to those who did nothing. Responsibility, Transparency, Accountability – lets start with our own house Congressmen/women. What I want to know about this bailout package is what “porK” and “earmarks” are in it and who put it there. This should be about the financial viability of our future and ONLY the viability of our financial future. I doubt this big of opportunity will be passed over. The press is the only watchdog that we average Americans have – please help us out.

I know that the pet-in-your-lap issue doesn’t measure up to the bailout, but I must comment. I have a toy poodle who loves to ride with me. When I am doing errands that can be done with drive thrus so that I don’t have to leave her in the car, or if the weather is cool enough that I needn’t be concerned that leaving her will result in her being cooked in the car, I take her along.

She is thrilled to ride and sits on my lap near the left arm rest. She does not interfere with my driving and safely looks out the driver’s side window. My only concern is how she might fare in a crash. That is a reason that I sometimes don’t let her ride along. Letting her sit on my lap does not interfere with driving – my eyes never leave the road, and she sits quietly. She is far better behaved than my children ever were – even in their car seats. She also does not require the attention of texting (which takes eyes off the road and hands off the wheel) or finding a cell phone in the car.

I believe this bailout program is a shame. No money should be going to an affordable housing fund (aka ACORN). CRA should be revamped. There should be a commission that follows the money. Check out the list of Senators/Representatives that received campaing contributions from Freddie and Fannie (Obama, Kerry, Dodd). Some (Christopher Dodd to name one) recieved sweetheart mortgages from Countrywide (Countrywide bundled and sold mortgages to Freddie and Frannie). I think the reason the lawmakers wanted this bill passed so fast was an attempt to cover up.

Obama was ACORN’s main lawyer and their #1 annual trainor–while he worked as their “community organizer”. He handled the voter fraud cases and was supposed to keep it clogged. Every undecided voter in this country needs to do their homework and look at this CRA legislation that allowed Freddie and Fannie to basically bring this country to its knees. Why do you allow the do-nothing, know-nothing, corrupt, self-interested politicians set the language for your reporting. It’s not “Wall Street vs Main Street” it’s “Congress vs Capitalism” that’s at issue here.

It was bad legislation (Sarbanes/Oxley), Housing and Recovery Act of 2008, Nehemiah and Ameridream programs (Down Payment Assistance Programs), just to name a few that have caused this crisis. Unintended consequences? You bet. Whenever you ignore the laws of economics to create the liberal utopia, it can only end in crisis. And who suffers? The people. Not the congressional representative-people, just the other 99.99999…% of us.

Class warfare is now on display. I frankly don’t care if the WaMu guy got a golden parachute–he didn’t create this mess. Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi (the obvious characters among so many others) put their self interests/personal and social agendas ahead of good sense, seasoned economic principles. Why would we EVER put anti-capitalists in charge of making laws and regulations that so importantly impact the day-to-day functioning of our most fundamental financial institutions.

It makes me sick. It makes me sick to know that none of them will ever pay for their corruption (at worst) or their ignorance (at best). We’ll continue paying–and a part of me thinks we deserve it as Americans continue to vote for these people at all levels of the government who offer us “goodies in the short term” at the expense of freedom and opportunity in the long run.

Does everyone really understand how much $700 billion is? It is $300 thousand per taxpayer. If we were handed that money I’d pledge $100 thousand to the stock market right off the top. I’d stimulate the economy with another $100 thousand. Then I’d have another $100 thousand to put in my bank. How solid would the edconomy be if we all were given the opportunity to do this?

wow I actually agree with Jonathan Hoenig, the government should be the ref in this, and not the crucial player in this bailout. And the government involvment is truly distorting everything to the people.

I dunno about most people, but from history and what it tells us, if the government involve itself like it has, they now will always be involved in some form or fashion. It would surprise me if the government just seized control over all economics!

The GSEs, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, were chartered to essentially purchase or guarantee risky loans in the form of mortgage-backed securities to offload that risk from the primary lending entities. Now, the soc-called “bailout bill” is implemented to purchase or guarantee risky loans in the form of mortgage-backed securities to unload that risk from primary lending agencies. From this vantage, there doesn’t seem to be much distinction between the two and, in case you haven’t been watching, the GSEs have failed and triggered this mess.

I, for one, have zero confidence in a government action that seems to be a defining example of Einstein’s definition of insanity, i.e., doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.

Another observation is that the Federal government is proposing, with this slice of insanity, to borrow $700 billion from the taxpayers to purchase asset-based securities with the definitive statement that these securities have a high likelihood of increasing in value. However, instead of giving this windfall profit back to the lenders, us, they apparently plan on spending it just as fast as they can. Further, the US owes approximately $10 trillion dollars. Do the legislators even consider paying that down with the “profits” from their credit crap-game? No, they don’t. Like the irresponsible borrowers that are ultimately the root cause of this debacle, our “representatives” would rather go out buy something they can ill-afford than to pay off our debt obligations. No wonder we’re in the middle of this.

About a week ago the list of the highest recipients of Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae campaign contributions was shown and Chris Dodd was #1 and Barack Obama as #2 and he has only been in the Senate for less than 4 years. Interestingly, when you sort the statistics a bit and show it by contributions/year Obama wins it hands-down. He is the #1 slot almost 3 times as much as the #2 person. So who other than Barney Frank might have had a vested interest in not seeing those institutions investigated?

One part of the Bailout bill that concerns me greatly is, the 20% of the payback going to special interest groups like the corrupt acorn orginazation. Friday fox news briefly commented on Chris Dodd wanting this in the bill. The fact that Former President Clinton pushed in 1999 for Low income families that could not afford to own a home and then the Democrates blocking every move before congress to stop Freddy and Franny and others so that the present situation that we are in would not happen. Well it did. Barney Frank, Pelosi, Dodd and Harry Reid who are so full of there own self importance( I am a Democrat) that they are pushing their own agendas and not doing what is best for the American people. And now they are giving 20% of the middle class taxpayers blood ,sweat and dreams to groups like Accorn This is a CRIME that must be stopped. It is such previous agendas that helped to cause this bail out bill in the first place. this is outragious. and has to stop.

This bailout has me worried. democrats lining up at the trough is what the press announcement looked like this morning. Chick S smiling (trying to hide it) in the backround confirmed it for me. The Repubs looked like they tried but let’s face it, they were out numbered and all the dems needed to do was play the waiting game since not doing a “necessary” deal would look bad for them.

The ACORN thing has been going on for decades and doesn’t seem to be anything we can do about it.

One last thought… if this deal can take money retroactively from people then the entire Senate and Congress should be under scrutiny for their involvement with all the companies poised to benefit (and I don’t believe there is no involvement) and give back plus intrest every penny, then lose their job.

As disgusted as I am, it appears that the “bailout” is necessary if we are to avoid a meltdown of Wall Street. However, let us put the blame where it belongs: Congress, the Carter administration and all subsequent administrations for passing and encouraging the Redevelopment Act. In order to correct a “problem” (those who could not afford it could not get mortgages) the government mandated that those who could not afford to get mortgages which were destined to fail, and which indeed did fail, be given mortgages. That these toxic mortgages would wind through all sections of the financial landscape was a given – mortgages have always been sold as securities and always will be. I hold the Congress in general, and representatives like Barney Franks in particular, predominately responsible for this debacle, which our children and grandchildren will be paying off their entire lives.

I think that the math was wrong with your guest. If you divide out the 700 billion to 225 million people it does not come out to 3100.00

In all fairness Alan Fishman did not cause Wamu to fail – he was there for only 3 weeks – As far as getting an $8 million signing bonus, companies that are in trouble need to be able to attract individuals to help turn around the company otherwise they are doomed once they start heading south. As far as golden parachutes – these “perks” should only be inacted if the CEO has been successful in turning around the company. If golden parachutes are put in to play regardless of how the CEO performs, where is the incentive?

My question is where are the Board of Directors in these failing companies who offer these packages to the CEOs? If I were a stockholder of any of these companies my first concern would be the Board of Directors who seemingly have no regard for the stockholders and are acting like congress with a pocket full of blank checks and offering whatever they want to whom ever they want – think twice before you throw out your proxy voting ballot each year – become responsible for your investments!

While Alan Fishman may be legally (maybe not) and contractually able to take this package, morally he should reject the golden parachute. While I absolutley disagree with government interference with how companies run their companies – publically traded companies need a certain amount of guidelines (hate to say regulation) in regard to this subject and it should come from the stockholders. Investers need to know who they are investing in and what they are doing with your I!

On another subject, I will be reading the bailout intently, as should everyone – it’s your money – the last thing we need is for the “government” to own or control any more of our companies! Let’s learn from our mistakes and NOT make more mistakes because of fear.

Calling all Grannies! What can we do to save our Country? At the “touch of a button” or “stroke of a pen” – at the voting booth – we can change the direction of this country. Repetitive actions create “behaviors”. Like it or not – religious training – or the lack of it – plays a big role in the shaping of our values. Barack Obama made the statement that in hard times – “people cling to religion” – I don’t believe that they do – but they should! Bailout: Everyone seems to be losing two facts. 1 There was a lot of CRIMINAL activity going on here. To misrepresent the value of “paper” and the ability of individuals to repay is BANK FRAUD, a Federal criminal offense. 2 Much of the Banking problem is not with your average community bank where most folks have their money, it is with the big conglomerates that are also Investment Banks (who were supposed to be regulated by the SEC). There are many Banks in the country that are perfectly fine and essentially unaffected. That is why many folks don’t understand why they have to foot the bill.
Also, ever wonder why companies like JP Morgan are in such a good position to buy up the failures — they had more reasonable management who didn’t bleed their companies dry. This law should have had some specific provisions for recovery of money that was stripped out by former executives and Boards. Without that ability, it rewards bad behavior.

These banks and politicians have to be held accountable for their misuse of the markets. I currently have two jobs – in the meat business and own a small restaurant. In the meat business because we work with perishable products we consider our first loss to be our best loss. What I mean by that is you don’t make the profits you’re looking to make or would like to make on product thats getting old so you sell it at a lower price to get rid of it. What banks and mortgage companies should be doing right now is taking a look at these foreclosures, reevaluating them (the homes are worth something, maybe not what they were appraised at upon purchase).
Bring the value down on the house so that the person owning the home can make a mortgage payment that they can afford. They get to keep their home and the mortgage companies still are making some money – perhaps not what they fully want but they take their best loss. The people who are responsible for selling these bad mortages from the realators to the mortgage companies should be held accountable since they all encouraged and approved these home buyers to qualify for a home they knew the home owners couldn’t afford.

What is a congressman…someone who is elected to office….have 83% of the people not like the job you are doing…yet 85-905 of them will be re-elected..GO FIGURE

I experienced it first hand under the management of AL “Chainsaw” Dunlap early in his carreer.
Usually top management is paid for their management of a companies “stockholder” resources i.e. the return on the assets or capital employed at the company. Terms like ROCE (return on Capital employed) etc. The intent being to wisely spend the money in places which will make money. Simple?
Well, Dunlap instead of returning more money on the assets of the business actually got rid of the capital assets i.e. printing presses, extruders, people, plants (needed resources for a going business) so instead of increasing the return on 100% of the resourses already being used effeciently he actually reduced the return (slightly) on 70% of the resourses thus earning him a huge bonus. After 2 years he was on to the next conquest leaving us to repair the damage. We did but it took almost 10 years to do so.

moral: be careful how you define a “successful” business. It often leads to longer term failure.

The “dollar”, Federal Reserve Note, states: “This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private.” Our government has been on a spending spree and with the blessing of the Federal Reserve our US Treasury has been printing a lot of money. It is equivalent to the crisis caused by counterfeiters. Because of the supply of money and failed government regulations and policies some Wall Streeters , overconfident and greedy, made, as they usually do, more high-risk investments. They knew they were a risk because they bought insurance to cover the risk form companies like AIG. Due to inflation caused by the excess printing of money and the issuance of loans to people who couldn’t possibly afford to pay for homes aggressive loans (sanctioned by the government), bubble burst and the market turned against these risk takers with companies like AIG (who priced the risk and profited on the front-end from the insurance) to pay the claims. The claims came pouring in putting AIG at risk until Sec. Paulson, President Bush and the Feds stepped in. Bear Stearns (another insurer) and AIG were bailed out by the Federal Reserve. Who is the Federal Reserve? The guys who hold the American dollars and dollar associated savings and investments. And, to help cushion the Federal Reserve bailout, the US Treasury, who had to borrow the money, bailed out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac who were holding a lot these risky investments on the backs of the American taxpayer. The biggest buyer and holder of these risky mortgages are foreign countries (China at the top of the list). So, yes, China and other countries are now willing to loan America 700B to bailout these investments. This bailout plan covers financial institutions with operations in the US; not just US financial institutions. The crisis comes about because the foreigners are no longer willing to buy these “toxic” assets. So the financial institutions are doing what they should do and that is tighten up lending policies. Yes, some financial institutions will collapse; but, then they are the ones who got greedy and took on more risk than they should have. But, then there are those that were more prudent and they will survive. In excess of 100 financial institutions have contacted Washington to say you don’t need the bail out proposed by Pres. Bush and Sec. Paulson. BB&T of NC is one. I cannot understand why no one is questioning these Congressman in the Democratic Party that has gotten money over the course of years going back as far as the Clinton Era. Why? Clinton should even be hauled into a commission to answer why people were given home loans that were economically challenged and they knew that money could NEVER be repaid. I was appalled at the levity and humor Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi saw in their solution for the problem – don’t they realize through their inability to keep reins on Fannie Mae and Freddit Mac that they have just strapped my 30 year old’s generation with an additional debt they have to pay back over their life.

Just watched the Obama talking head Maria Carbona on the show, as she tries to argue what Obama said or didn’t say. yadda Not only should we have the Biden “gaff-o-meter” going, but we need to start the “back-peddling-o-meter” for Obama.

I’m so very tired of watching Obama say something one day, and the next day claim he said something totally different (after he learns which answer is most popular).

My husband and I are against the bailout in its present form. However, if it goes through as outlined and IF there is a payback at some point, those proceeds should come back to the taxpayer by relieving the national debt – which would reduce our tax load – rather than going to community organizations such as ACORN.

Wish there was just as much energy trying to get GAS to the southeast, as much energy is being spent on dicussing and debating this bailout issue.

Now there is a supposable agreemnet has been made in congress, it sis my opinion that politicians should be utilizing this same energy for the people everyday, maybe we would not be in the economic disaster that we a people and taxpayers face today.

I mean these Politicians, Wall St., CEO’s and economists are elected and hired because they are smart and best person for the job. Have these people just stepped away from what has been expected of them. These are the smartest and intelligent leaders in America-their actions say otherwise. Alot of these people need to be facing charges, and jail time. Seems they are far grater criminals and no one is doing anything about this, except media discussions.

1. Does the bail out plan still include a hand out for ACORN? Great job keeping this issue in the news, I wish more media were giving this organization a tougher look AND Sen Obama’s connection with this sleezy organization.

2. What, if any, criteria will be used to ‘help keep people in their homes’? For the guy who should have never been given a mortgage in the first place and can’t possibly afford mortgage payments, do we just give him the house (who pays for that)? How about the speculators who guessed/timed their purchases wrong? How about second homes? How about second/third mortgages that went to pay for big boats or other frivolous luxury items? How about some help/$$ for the other 90% of us who have mortgages and have been paying on time? Don’t we deserve something too?

3. Will/can there be civil action taken against these CEOs and other top people in these failed companies?

4. When will the Democrats admit to ANY responsibility for this mess? There’s plenty of blame to go around but so far I haven’t heard a single Democrat even remotely take responsiblity for any of it–it’s the Bush Admin, it’s Republican deregulation, it’s the companies…you’d think that the Democrats had been living under a rock for the last 30 years.

This bail out isn’t going to change things and the same thing will just keep happening again and again until we have no choice but to go to a “one world banking system”. There should be no bail out. I have the exciting news to report that Congress plans to lift the 26 year old ban on offshore drilling. This is an enormous victory for the American people and the 1.5 million members of the American Solutions’ “Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less” movement who have been hurt by the high cost of gasoline and diesel.

This news proves, once again, that when the American people come together, we can create dramatic and positive change.

Whenever someone prints a negative headline with even a tenuous connection to the Bush administration, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid leap to the microphone. They howl “Incompetent!” and “Failure!” like a pair of kindergardeners. They’ve been strangely quiet over this bailout. Hmmmmm.

With single digit approval ratings on Congress, how about a constitutional amendment imposing some term limits? I’m so over these “professional” politicians. If these clowns know that they’re going to have to go live in the world they’re monkeying with in just a few years, maybe they won’t screw things up so thoroughly.

I saw Lauren Green on the Strategy Room several times last week and she always brings a new perspective to the topics of the day. I really enjoyed checking out the Strategy Room throughout the day last week and would like to see it going on the weekend. Maybe Fox could give an opportunity to some of the newer faces at fox News and Fox Business over the weekend. Could be a win-win situation.

Does any one really listen to what Mckain and Barack are saying. Or do they just hear want they want to hear. I became a citizen of the US in June of this year and have been trying to follow the Presidential race as it is my duty now to vote for the right person. For now my husband and I still have a job and our house, my kids still have food on the table and clothes on there back but that could change really soon. All these people in Congress and the House have no idea what the citizens of this country are going through. They still have their millions in the bank. They do not have to worry about living pay check to pay check and having to use credit just to buy grocerys. I want to know how they think they can help when they have no clue.

The Senate Dems, led by Chris Dodd killed S.190 Federal Housing Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, saying there was no problem. We have seen clips of Barney Frank and Charles Schumer saying there’s no problem with Fannie and Freddie and the reform is unnecessary. We now find out that the top 3 recipients of “contributions” from Fannie and Fannie are Chris Dodd (D), Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, Barack Obama (D), Democratic nominee for President and John Kerry (D).

We also now know that the Republicans, including President Bush (beginning in 2002), Chuck Hagel, John Sununu, John McCain, Elizabeth Dole and Alan Greenspan were literally begging the Democrats to join them in taking action to stop an impending disaster with the Housing and Banking industry and outlining the snowballing situation that DID cause this potential 700 BILLION dollar bail out.

I want to see the Democrats who are on record as receiving the top amounts of “contributions” from Fannie and Freddie and who were instrumental in blocking reform, investigated by the Justice Dept and FBI for possible collusion and office selling, to enable these Company Officers/CEO’s to cook the books for their huge bonus’s.

I want to see heads roll and not just in the Companies. Our Congressmen and women are in a position of public trust. I want them held accountable. Dodd, Frank and Schumer are hypocrites to name the least and
are now on interviews lamenting how NEGLIGENCE in passing reform has led to this catastrophe! Well the Republicans tried to get reform through and THEY and their Democrat compatriots blocked it when it would have prevented this disaster. They need to be publicly called out and made to answer the people as to why they blocked the very regulatory reform they are now trying to blame the Republicans for not putting into place!

Moreover, I am furious that ACORN has not had whatever license to operate revoked and any voter registrations they have submitted confiscated in ALL states for review and validation by an independent entity. They were in the parking lot of a local WALMART a few days ago having people fill out voter registrations! Now how did they know these people were eligible to vote?! They were not asking for driver’s license! There is a known, LARGE illegal population in this area! I DO NOT want ANY money going to ACORN or ANY Community Action entity. They can operate on private or State money.

I am so disgusted with this decision. When our jobs were exported, many of the American people learned how to adjust. We did not have a choice. Those with children had no choice but to turn to the government. What did they give a family of 4, maybe 400 bucks in foodstamps,(try to feed a family of 4 3 balanced meals a day on that amount, no wonder why so many Americans are overwieght), a small budget to live on and had to be redetermined in 6 months. Grant you, they never took into consideration the extras such as insurance for the car(mandatory in many states), gas to get to the doctors, buy food and find that low paying job. Many were told by the administration, “You can always get a job at McDonalds, Burger King or any fast food. Those did not receive any help. I know I was one of them. Sure I used all of my 401 to survive and help my children. That is gone now. Funny thing is I learned how to live within my means, for the middle class and those who fall below the poverty level, they always do. Let them fall and see what the real America is like.

Alison, As regards Obamma’s negotiation without preconditions, what everyone seems to be missing is that Obamma very adroitly redefined his position during the debate. In the past he was clear that he, as President, would negotiate without preconditions just as McCain stated in the debate. During the debate Obamma reframed his position as allowing lower level discussions without preconditions. Lower level discussions without preconditions is of course required to establish the preconditions for presidential level conditions so stating that this was what he meant all along is absurd.

As regards Palin in the upcoming VP debate, she needs to bring out a point McCain missed during his debate. During the McCain-Obamma debate McCain allowed Obamma to get away with blaming Republican philosophies as the reason for the economic failure. In fact, the economic failure is due to actions led by the Democrats and many Republicans (including the administration) forgetting their basics and voting with the Democrats. A case in point was the effort led by Dodd and Frank (and Obamma?) to pressure the making of loans to low income persons that were above their ability to pay (see the Community Reinvestment Act as an example). Palin needs to hammer the point that the current economic situation is a result of Democrat social engineering, not true Republican principles.

One thing for sure, if and I mean if, Obama should happen to become President because idiots voted him in – there will be NO money for health care, tax cuts for the middle class, free college tuition or anything else he wants to hand money over to the “low income” people. Because the Democrats along with a few spineless Republicans voted for this bail out.

In VP debate, Pallin needs to demonstrate her view on current topics is closer to the American view.
Unlike Biden, she has not been buried in bureacresy for 30+ years. She should demonstrate a fresh perspective.

Obama poll numbers in PA are not true. For one, I saw a increase in voter registration to the Democratic party during the primaries so they could vote for Hillary Clinton, because they did NOT want Obama to take PA. Now the registration has gone back to the Republican party for the general election. The reason, they want McCain and a good showing for the party.

Obama may win Philadelphia and Pittsburgh but I know for sure the rest of PA including Scranton where Biden is from will NOT vote for Obama.

I also want to know just who placed the ACORN 20% into this plan. Names, accountability, why? OK, so have a confession to make… I have always been an accountability freak, so here I am with all of you: I am one of those who got into a bad loan and lost my home to foreclosure. I am a contributer to this mess. Having said that, I have no need for the US government to pay me money for my bad choice. I believe that of the several contributers to this TERRIBLE situation, I, as an individual that is part of the bigger picture, am surely as responsible, with my $269,000.00 mortgage, as is Fannie, Freddie and the rest. I also believe that in order to keep the economy rolling, the larger institutions, including banks and investment firms, need to have some accountability… and assistance… in the form of loans, insurance and even grants.

I dont believe that our lawmakers will build a relief package that is not unlike the Chrysler “bailout”. This relief package will stimulate the economy on the macro scale, which will in turn, assist me, the “Fundamentally Strong American”. I made a mistake, however I continue to work hard for my employer, and will not become a collateral casualty of these rocky economic times because I choose to be a necessary, hardworking component of my employer’s team. I am investing my income, and putting my monies back into the system now, in a way that will boost the economy (in as much as I can).

Just because I fall into that middle-income category, it does not mean that I don’t have a responsibility to myself, my family, and to my country.

I am sorry for my fiscal mistakes which contributed to this national crisis. I am hoping that my actions from now on will only help to build the economy.

If I hear Obama say one more time that it was “this administration’s (i.e. republican) failure to regulate I think I will have to become a grafitti artist so the average “Joe” can read about about Dood and Frank’s pitiful reassurances! Just heard lead negotiator for Republicans on Senate compromise. Sounds like nothing changed. Sec. Paulson still has complete control and discretion and we are going to spend $700B with a assurances from Sec. Paulson that we are buying them at a discount and will make money. The Senate has sold out the American taxpayer, plain and simple. Politics as usual in Washington. Don’t they hear us. Let it correct itself. We need to live within our means. The solid businesses will get the credit that they need. Yes, the banks will avoid bad credit practices and that is what they need to do. They say that these “toxic” assets will rebound in maybe 4 months, maybe 2 years; but, much less than 10 years. Sounds like speculation to me on the backs of the taxpayers on a fragile dollar. Are we to borrow more money from China. Are the Feds going to allow the Treasury to print more money? And, is inflation going to trickle down to us?

2009 might be the end of the United States of America. We could quickly become the United Socialist State of the Democratic Party.

The federal government does not have 700 billion dollars to pour on this financial fire, so it will have to borrow it or print it. Either way we lose big time over the long haul, because our dollars will be worthless!

Shut up Nancy… I can not stand that woman! Anyway… I really hope that someone takes a hard look at what is in this “bailout” and keeps the pork out. No one but the American taxpayers should benefit from any profits. I could care less it some CEO gets his bonus, in fact they should have to pay back these bonuses. And here is a thought… how about if congress gives back its last raise to help fund this mess. There are alot of people who need heavy fines and jail time. IF any of us “average” Americans had tried this we would be going to jail. No one bails us out when we behave reckless with our finances. Maybe we all need to send our bills to congress and request a “bailout.”

Palin will be fine….she can hold her own and if she is honest and says ” I don’t know if she doesn’t know something rather than dance around it she will come off better. I would rather have someone tell me they don’t know the answer but will get it than try to feed me a line of bull…I can respect that. Biden will probably step on it anyway… He can’t help himself. You can bet that is Gov. Palin had told someone in a wheelchair to stand up… the liberal news would have had it on non-stop.

As far as the debate… Senator McCain won hands down in my opinion and more important than that I trust him a lot more than I do a lot of the politicians.

I see from some printed reports that the ACORN Slush Fund was taken out. But its not yet clear whether the “mortgage cramdown” provision were removed. If they are still in this gigantic turkey, I highly recommend you get some SME’s from the mortgage industry to assess the impact to the mortgage market. I don’t see anything good coming from a bankruptcy judge’s ability to abrogate a written contract and modify an existing mortgage to vacate or partially vacate a mortgagee’s requirement to pay.

How about those people who bought houses at inflated prices but have made their mortgage payments on time? Any help for those folks in this bill? No.

Mr. Kurtz has only uncovered the tip of the iceberg. Obama was first hired by the Woods Fund to run the Developing Communities Project as a “community organizer”. It was actually funded to push for Local School Counsils where you eliminate the school boards and have a local counsil run each school. The other person who worked on the project was Ayers. The Chicago Reform Act of 1988 passed creating those Local School Counsils. When did Obama first go to Havard? 1988 Which foundation appointed him a director when he came back? The Woods Fund. Who’s still on the Woods Fund as a director? Ayers Without the Local School Counsils, Ayers would not have done his foundation to push his ideas in education.

Listening to the congress and how they have ” worked so hard over this bill”, quite frankly makes me nauseated. Perhaps if they had worked a little harder in the beginning we wouldn’t be in this mess. Let me enlighten them on the middle class. I am educated, I am an RN, most days I am on the floor by 6 a.m., putting out one fire after another, all with a smile on my face, communicating with professionals all day long, taking care of people who have no financial concerns, because.. get this , we are already taking care of their medical care through gov’t funded medicaid/medicare,which we working americans are also paying for. There is no coffee break, occasionally you may get lunch, you leave after 8-12 hours and wonder when the last time you had a drink of water or bathroom break, only to fall into your house with no chef, no maid, and a hungry crew waiting to know.. What’s for Dinner!! Its time for them to really get to work and they have to let us know on national TV.. how they’ve WORKED HARD!!! Get a Grip!!

I would like to thank “Pogger” for the You tube link showing hearings in 2004. I have been hearing snippets of information about these hearings. But never in entirety. I am sure that liberals and Democrats will spin it and say you but things out. But I am afraid you can not spin their own words.

The bailout I disagree with and there should be no golden parachutes for anybody unless they’ve actually have taken the reins on a upheaved company and turn it around and can make a profit and spread that profit to the American Citizens. It’s really sad that when someone like Senator McCain pointed out years ago that this was going to be a crisis and he was completely ignored. Then Obama jumps up and said that he alerted this to. I find that really hard to believe when he’s in the top 3 that received millions of dollars from these companies that have failed. Talk about cutting your nose off despite your face.

When this mess on Wall Street did finally happen McCain did what a real leader should do and is getting paid to do. He went back to help and perhaps he made waves because he didn’t let them entirely do what they wanted to do. I guess he should have just waited for a phone call huh? Here’s the thing all these senators/congress that received money from Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Acorn should be brought up, throughly investagated and dealt with. The last thing we need is a President to receive bribes and get by with it.

I did like Obama’s economic plan…it was almost word for word of the plan that McCain released a couple of weeks ago. I guess if you can’t come up with your own plan copy someone else’s but change a few words to make it your own. All that’s happening is showing the younger generation that it’s ok to cheat and lie and you’ll get paid well for being dishonest.

Maybe I missed this on Fox but what about when Nancy Pelsoi closed down the house at 11:23 am for their 5 week vacation while the energy plan was on the floor; turned out the lights, turned off the mics and then sent security in to make sure they remained off while at least 14 senators/congress remained during their 5 week vacation. These guys are the ones that truely care and did not take their 5 week vacation and still haven’t. Then when the senate/congress returned the Democrats came up with a stupid bill on energy trying to make the general public think they had this great idea. Alot of these senators/congress thinks the general public are stupid; the fact is they are stupid and the general public is getting sick and tired of sending these people to work for us and they do what ever they want to. Then when you do get a senator/congress person (male or female) that actually does want and try to do what he’s being paid to do they are critized. You know if you don’t perform well at your job you can get fired…why should we continue to keep non-productive senators/congress in house when they don’t perform their job and are guilty of lying and bribes?

Savatore, I work for a small business. All we hear as employees is they can’t give us cost of living raises, they can’t give us just plain old raises. We are in the agricultural business and the receivables are harder and harder to get. People who like chicken, turkey, pork and vegetables will continue to pay more just to feed their families. I deal with farmers who make $250,000.00 gross a year and more but the overhead (feed, electricity, gas, water) is astounding! A few years ago I heard a woman on the news say she didn’t care what happened to the farmer because she got her food from the grocery store! Sometimes I wonder if our politicians think that too.

I think O’Bama has no clue how to come to my level of survival. I think Biden is a professional paycheck. I think McCain has his problems, but I think he can talk to me without talking down to me. If you tax the rich, then the middle class with loose their jobs cause its the rich companies that provide the jobs, goods, and services. My daughter & son-in-law bought a house last year. The went to the bank and wanted to get preapproved for a loan so they would know the price range of houses they could look at. He is a police office just starting out and she works part-time (20 hrs/wk). The bank told them they were preapproved for $150,000.00! They bought a house for $90,000.00. When they went to the bank for the loan the bank officer said they could pick a better house because they still had another $60,000.00 they were approved for! My daughter said, “but we want to keep the house, I don’t want to loose it to foreclosure a year from now!”. I’m so proud of them. But this is a prime example of what the banks, mortage companies, loan officers, whoever have been allowed to get away with.

I am not only angry but down-right outraged after hearing a smidgeon of the details of this “bail-out” package.
The fact that 20% of profits are going to be directed, in part, to the Acorn Group is reprehensible given the fact that they set in place the zero% financing which got us into this mess to begin with. Also the fact that they have been and still are under investigation for fraudulent voter registration, with some employees already serving time……..are they totally crazy in Washington? Another earmark rides again!!
I find it insulting to see Barney Frank’s face on television, being the pompous, arrogant a__that he is and taking no responsibility for this mess and even worse taking political pot shots along with those other creeps Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. The American public is outraged over the mess we are in and waiting for significant information from congress, yet every time this group of Democrats gets in front of a microphone, they can’t resist posturing, spewing rhetoric and vitriolic name calling. WE DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT!
In a time when Wall St and the stock market hung on every nuance of Alan Greenspan’s words, Barney Frank totally ignored his warnings in April of 2005. He was obviously able to convince every Democrat that his judgment was superior to Alan Greenspan as they all (100%) of the Dems voted down the bi-partisan bill put forth to address the issue of regulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. This was all done with power , not with pi-partisan discussion and debate. The Democrats have killed the two-party system giving rise to the worst and ugliest presidential election I have witnessed in my entire life.
I hope and pray the FBI investigation starts at the top with Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. The Chairman of the Banking Commission taking the largest amount of money from the entity he oversees is at BEST collusion and at worst fraudulent and if it isn’t it should be. It is strange how these great minds in congress could parade sports figures through Washington for months on end and investigate “spy gate” ad nauseam but not a hint of investigation came from congress regarding this matter. It couldn’t be a form of cover up could it? In my opinion, some pretty big heads should role on this one.
One more point – the vagueness of the CEO compensation irritates me also. Senator McCain had mentioned that no CEO should get paid any more than the highest paid employee of the government – what happened to that? I’m sure it was a necessary compromise with the unrealistic and unreasonable democrats. Out-going CEO’s should go to the unemployment line and in-coming CEOS (who have to fix this mess) should be granted some latitude.
God help us – what else have these crooks committed us to??

When I heard some of the “details” of the bailout bill, my anger rose even higher. Just what in the heck do you mean by “reasonable” limits on exec. compensation. Why on earth would you give money back to the groups that started this whole mess in the first place; ACORN at the top of the list? Why on earth would you allow mortgages to be re-written? Frankly this bill is nothing more than Congress trying to act like they give a crap when YOU ALL are the reason this happened in the first place.

WHAT I WANT TO SEE IS “ACCOUNTABILITY”!!!! I want the name of the Senators and Representatives who helped pass laws that allowed people to obtain mortgages when it was clear they wouldn’t be able to pay them back! I want them to RESIGN publically!

Second, I want to know WHY on earth do you think the American people, those who work hard and pay their bills on time, including their mortgages,are going to willingly pay more in taxes on everything they earn, buy and invest? Frankly we aren’t going to take this and it will show come election time.

Don’t we all get our food from grocery stores? Wow I cannot believe that people actually do not know how the grocery stores get their food? However, I will admit this though, my husband grew up in the city and when we moved to NH, he was very surprised to see that trees grew out of the ground and not out of cement! I am totally serious, tis sad though that people really do belive that supplies of everything are endless. Should OBama get elected, those supplies will soon dry up and frankly I think there will finally be a revolt against the government.

There’s some crazy stuff coming out of Kansas Gov Sebelius when she spoke in Iowas implying that “code language” is being used to raise doubts about Oblahma. A woman from Overland Park responded to that today in the ULTRA liberal Kansas City Star’s Letters to the Editor section, and I quote: “It may come as a shock to hear that a more conservative person like me would base this decision on something more than the color of this candidate’s skin.”

I, for one, just don’t agree with Oblahma, I highly question the cronies the man has chosen to affiliate himself with, not to mention his affiliation with ACORN (when is someone going to unearth something about that?), and I could go on and on and on. Not to mention the statement that only “uneducated” women will vote for McCain. I guess my Honors Student classification should be rexamined….4.0 GPA must now mean uneducated to the Democrats. Who knew?

I have to laugh because everyone is arguing about where all the profits should go after the 700 billion bailout is paid back and then some…Even Pelosi and Reed and Frank’s and all the Dems say they want 20% should go to their favorite political action group, acorn…what a joke…duh, ya think?..And where do the gop’s want the profits to go?…hello? How about we break even first?

I say, let’s first get the markets settled and some cash in the bank vaults, then hope we get @ least 9/10’s or so of that 700 billion back. We should be happy w/that because we won’t lose that many jobs in that case and we’ll just be in a light recession.

If there is a profit, I’d like to see the monies returned to us the tax payers, but only if it’s a substantial amount…Like $1000 or so..If it’s only like a $1, it would cost more to cut and mail the checks.

Hmmmm…$ 3100 in my pocket to shop for whatever I want-or- Save our country from what could quite possibly be a very painful, deep and long recession?..Well, as much as i’d love to have a brand new 40” or so LG flat-screen HD TV, i’d much rather save my countrymen from the hardships a deep and long recession would inflict on them (and me) instead.

I think Hillary should be running against Newt for the presidency because they are the best we have and the debates would be interesting and informing because they are so intelligent, unlike the one we had the other night. However, I do like the VP picks. Sara and Joe are great.

As I heard about the bailout draft, etc. and that the Dems MANDATING that 20% of profits made from selling assets would be given to government organizations that “funnel money” to housing advocacy groups, I was a bit, well more than a bit, angry. With all the ramblings about ACORN being at the top of the list for advocacy groups and Obama’s connection to them, why hasn’t anyone raised this point…(taken directly from ACORN’s website:

“To maintain independence, ACORN does not accept government funding and is not tax exempt.”

So why on earth would they accept money funneled to them through the government? Well I think somebody was a bit sleepy when they put that little tidbit in the draft and I think it raises more of a red flag about just what exactly does ACORN do and where do they get their money.

Why hasn’t anyone raised that question in the media? How on earth are the Dems going to wiggle their way out of that statement?

I hope this is brought up on all the responsible news networks and that some heat is applied to remove that part of the bailout bill.

The Realtors would encourage buyers to purchase houses they could not afford, push them to there vested interest mortgage companies and title companies. Builders and Realtors getting additional kick backs. WHY WAS THIS NOT CONSIDERED A CONFLICT OF INTEREST! IT DISGUSTING WHAT WENT OWN I WITNESSED THIS FOR 2.8 YEARS – UNTIL I WAS TERMINATED ON AUGUST 8TH 2008 FOR NOT LYING TO MY CUSTOMERS AND FOR ALWAYS GIVING MY CUSTOMERS THAT LOWEST ALLOWED INTEREST RATE WITH NO POINTS – SO THEY DID NOT HAVE TO REFINANCE! We should be so lucky to have ACORN benefit from this “bailout”. Because it would mean that it actually worked and the 350 billion (or whatever it ends up being) has been paid back to the government (us) with a gain no less.

The bill must specifically exclude organizations like ACORN! This is absolutely absurd. Obama needs to be asked by the MEDIA specifically about ACORN organization again! The American people should atleast know the truth! I just listened to Nancy Pelosi blame the entire wall street mess on President Bush…unbelievable!! How quickly we forget that it was in fact Clinton in ‘94 who pushed the changes to FORCE our financial institutions to provide subprime loans to those who knowingly could not afford to pay them back. Just because President Bush is in office doesn’t mean it was HIS fault this happened. Our leaders need to take responsibility and own up to their own mistakes!

I had no doubt that congress (both parties) would pass the bailout bill. To do nothing would have cost them millions. The money they have rolled up in stocks and connections to the failed companies would have cost themselves and their spouses a loss of a lot of money. They have done 2 things with this bill, 1. They sold to the American people that they care for them, and 2. Without telling us what they have financially at stake, they have protected their income. All they did was to protect them, while at the same time make it look like they care for us. One thing to remember with Congress is a saying from a film about the Trojan War which I find to be true every time Congress does something. Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.

I hope the Republicans don’t vote for this bill, if the democrats have put any of their earmarks on it. We are sick of their spending. SPEND, SPEND, SPEND.

For too long, we have sat idly by and voted greedy people back into office time and time again. I am so concerned about all of these young people signing up to vote because of the “Charisma” shown by one of the candidates and the promises he makes without taking the time to closely examine his past voting record and scrutinizing his connections to disconcerting people and organizations. and they don’t realizie that people can “promise” the sun, moon, and stars to get votes and “deliver” something quite different when elected. If you’ve never been “politically involved” before, the time is now. Each and everyone of us need to start “talking up” McCain in our neighborhoods, at work, ballgames, shopping, everywhere we go, because of the two candidates we have to choose from, McCain is the safest bet – and while it is true that he has some faults – don’t we all? He has spent his lifetime “serving” this country – and I believe it was because “he cared”. He hasn’t ask for pork barrel pet project money – he tried to warn about this horrible mess a few years ago – he has tried! Let’s get out and work hard to get this man elected. It is going to be hard work because Obama seems to be moving ahead in the polls at this time.
Wouldn’t you love to see this scenario play out. The network has rushed to air a promo which reminds viewers that while FBN was live covering the weekend news events related to the bailout bill, CNBC spent the weekend mostly in infomercials.

FBN’s EVP Kevin Magee thinks this weekend “could well be the defining moment for Fox Business.” He tells THR’s Paul J. Gough, the decision to blow out weekend infomercials for live programming was a no-brainer. “We decided we needed that approach for what we think is the most important business story of our lifetime, and come at it as newspeople.”

Friday night’s preliminary ratings for the first presidential debate are in.

FOX’s debate coverage drew a 2.4/4.

So my credit card company charges me 3.9% interest on any borrowed “credit” money. However, if I miss one payment by an hour, or if I am not credit worthy, my interest rate jumps up to 23.99% without any explanation or notification. Sounds to me like the bankning industry is not credit worthy, so why are my taxes going to bail them out with such a low interest rate? Doesn’t seem fair and balanced to me!

I understand trying to stimulate the market, but I do not understand on how the bailout will give releif to the homes that are sitting in foreclosure or the citizens that have lost their home. Will there not be a “glut” in the housing market which will continue to drive the value of owning a home down?

It’s not just the young folks that are buying Sen Obama’s rhetoric. My 24 year old daughter is voting for McCain; two of her grandmothers are voting Obama–and won’t hear a bad word about about him.

I’ve been an Independent all my voting life. I frankly didn’t care what party a person was if I thought they would represent my interests. That’s all changed this election cycle (actually I started seriously moving toward the Republican camp when Nancy Pelosi became Speaker). The Democrats are so negative and nasty. Their favorite refrain seems to be “It’s a lie!” for any issue they don’t agree with. FOX does a good job pointing out that most of these “lies” are in fact true but the main stream media never point it out and so the voters getting their info from those sources believe it. I find it laughable that some people think FOX is right wing for being fair and balanced. I guess they are so far to the left that the center is far right to them.

I never back the bailout plan. Shame on the banks for the greediness and shame on the folks who did not use common sense when buying a home. It makes me furious that those ceo’s got so much money, now we bail them out. As for the canidates its vote for the lesser of the two evils. They may talk a good talk but once they get in office they do what they want not what they promise. I feel like we are headed for a communist country not to far in the future so much for capitalism and free trade, goverment owning banks, mortgages,and involved in healthcare. My goodnessiness who is this bailout helping? I have worked everyday in my life, since 1997 I have worked two jobs. The root of the problem is the mortgage fallout. The banks/mortgage lenders are not trying to solve anything. They could modify a lot of the mortgage loans. They choose not too. They say your credit score is low you have some late payments. Oh! you think? of course I do my house payment went from $1400.00 to $3000.00. I can’t sell it. I have late payments due to a huge mortgage payment. Not on my mortgage but on credit cards, I have been making on time payment on my home for two years. If the mortgage companies wanted to help the country they could reduce interest rates and modify mortgage loans. That way they would be getting paid and saving people homes . No the big companies want to get bailout. I made a poor decision accepting the type of mortgage ARM. I’ve paid for it. My marriage of 24 years could not handle the stress. My husband left without telling me, got himself an apartment and left me to handle this mess. Somebody bail me out of this mess.

A group of us took a look at our 401ks and guess what? RED, RED RED!! It is not just Wall Street my friends, it is all of us. For once, Obama did have the political sense to say Congress get back to work and fix this mess and John McCain, where is he? We haven’t heard from him since the debate. If he wants to be President, we had better hear from him. I didn’t think hiding under the covers was his style. Maybe I am wrong. But, if there is a time our country needs adult leadership, the time is now.

Senator McCain, get up out of your corner and reassure the American people! Suspending your campaign doesn’t mean suspending common sense and being a stand up leader! Suspending your campaign doesn’t mean putting duct tape on your mouth! Stand up and fight, not sit down and hide! and as for Congress, get to work and do what is necessary to pass a bill the country can accept. Stop the name calling. Stop the finger pointing, and for once, act like grown-ups instead of whining kindergarteners who missed out on their milk and cookies!

Why well I guess he bought property out of the country made $75,000 and didn’t pay taxes on it. His excuse I didn’t know I had to pay taxes. Hmmm that’s very interesting since he is the chairman of the Ways and Means which commiteeover sees the IRS. and btw what about Jeffers or jefferson (another Dem) that got caught with a 90,000 dollar bribe in his freezer. OH MY GOD should you imagine the headlines in the Media if that had been a Republican. Not saying the reps aren’t all that great either but their are good ones. I say let’s get rid of them all the bad ones and get them out of Congress and in jail. (TBATP)

My husband and I were discussing this whole package thing earlier today. We came to the conclusion that if all these CEO’s of the companies this package is supposed to help were all “fined” and forced to live on only $40,000 a year, it would take care of this mess. It would give the CEO’s a much needed dose of humble pie too. Quite honestly, I’d LOVE to see the Congress and Senate voluntarily give their pays back to live like middle america to help their own understanding of those of us on “main street” as they say in DC. It seems that if they did that, it would help them understand better what our REAL concerns are instead of what they “perceive” our concerns to be. *sigh*

Could you please explain to me why people in congress should not have term limits. Presidents have term limits, this should also apply to congress. We want politicans that put their country first, not their personal ambitions. We need to ban together and demand accountibility from our leaders or demand they look for a new job.
