Oprah on Sarah: Sarah on Oprah?

Oprah says it would be “disingenuous” to have Sarah Palin on her show.  So, she’s decided not to have the V.P. nomnee on.  Obviously it’s Oprah’s preogative whom she wants to feature.  But she has used her show often as a public service — wouldn’t it serve voters to hear from Palin in that one-on-one setting?  Is Oprah worried that an appearance would only enhance Palin’s popularity?  As arguably the most successful woman in America, does Oprah have a responsibility to feature the country’s potential first female V.P.?

NOTE:  We’ll blog live until the end of the show at 10am (et).  I’ll answer your questions and comments after that (if I can’t get to them during the show).

If Oprah had Sarah on her show then I would be compelled to watch and that would go against the grain because I NEVER watch Oprah.

For 25 years I have had nothing but admiration and respect for you, Oprah. I don’t remember ever even having a negative comment or thought about you.

That is ALL GONE because of your refusal to have Sarah Palin on your show. To say that you will have her on your show after the election is a total copout. The weak excuse that you don’t want to use your show as a platform for any candidate is truly insulting to the intelligence of everyone. You have had Barack Obama on your show and in your magazine. You have had Michelle Obama on your show and in your magazine. When the Obamas get their dog you will have their dog on your show and in your magazine.

You have made billions of dollars based on the idea that you want to empower women and champion for women’s rights and successes. Sarah Palin represents everything you claim to want for women. It is absolutely crushing to learn that you are really only working for Democrat women. Sarah Palin’s story is custom made for your show from a number of angles and you won’t focus on even one of them.

I am shocked to find myself so disgusted, disillusioned and disappointed in you, Oprah.

Probably 55% of the 75% of women viewers Oprah has each day are disaffected Hillary Clinton voters. If Sarah Palin was ugly had a wart on her nose and could not string two words together or complete a sentence. Oprah would have her own in a minute. However an attractive, articulate and intelligent woman with conservative views. Who would appeal to her female audience. Will never be asked to sit on that couch. Unless it is to discuss a scandal or defend herself.

Let us face it. Watching a gorgeous, intelligent, articulate woman like Alisyn is much more appealing to both the female and male audience of a show than someone like Nancy Grace. If Oprah cried her eyelashes off during the Obama speech…imagine the depression she would go into if she thought she helped McCain and Palin win the election by having Palin on the show.

And Alisyn I would watch you even if all you did was sit and smile at the camera for three hours ;-)

Good Morning Alisyn

Comment by Boyd

Oprah, Is doing this for Obama and democrat victory. she is money hungry and a Racist

Comment by Ricardo J

Alisyn,
As you tried to not be partisan, this story is ridiculous. Conservatives (and liberals) will jump on any story to push there biased agenda.

Oprah has the right not to have any political guest on her show. I don’t remember conservatives being as agressive about Hillary not being on the show.

Comment by Chris King

I agree with Oprah. Sarah will have her day at the debates. She has already outlined who she is on national tv. Personally I am sick of her already. This is about the election and who can help this country, not about some “hot” chick.

Comment by Dale

Trying this again. Might end up being a double post…

Isn’t this the same party (Dems) that want to use “law” for their gains in radio?

Aren’t they the ones that want the radio programs such as, Rush, Hannity, Bill O. etc to give equal air time to a Dem point of view?

Doesn’t this party want to intrude in our listening pleasure to the radio people I want to listen to and not some foolish rebuttal?

Yeah, it is…

But, just let the Big “O” decide all by herself that it would be “disingenuous” on her part.

Sorry, O. Not buying it and I just bet you have alienated half of YOUR base. Time will tell…

Hi Alisyn
WOW! Seeing you an hour early on a weekend morning is a real treat.
Oprah is so far “in the tank” for Obama that she doesn’t want to give Gov. Sarah Palin the exposure on her show. It says alot about both women. Oprah is AFRAID of the positive impression Sarah would make as she captures the immagination of the viewers.
You look great this morning as always.

Comment by Debi

Dear Alison,

I emailed Oprah at her show yesterday over her decision not to interview Sarah Palin until after the campaign ended.

Yes, it is correct that it is Oprah’s show.

I stated to Oprah that she and gayle must already be planning the “O” issue of Oprah and Gayle go to the White House.

Her show has primarily been about women’s issues and we, as fans have supported her show over the years, now, at a historic moment in history, she has placed herself in a position of a man over a woman.

Why? Because Oprah, unlike the other celebrities, could deliver the women’s vote for Obama by having him on her show, just as she does author’s, chef’s, trainers, or anything else she endorses.

With her money and her personal contacts, she could put a black American man in the White House.

Perhaps, but she forgot the American women had the right to make up our own minds.

She should have reserved her show for both candidates and if she wanted to endorse a candidate, then she should have gone to a fundraiser.

She is in a category of influence unto herself and she has let her fans down.

I am highly disappointed in Oprah. When did her show stop being informative/educational for her audience and become a forum just for people/causes she supports? I cannot believe she will let this whole election season go by without any mention of Barak or Michelle, or how being in the
White House will impact their young children. Or tell the story of Biden and how he juggled his Senate career while being a single father after the death of his wife and daughter. I think that this is a blatant act on her part to show her continued support for Obama, instead of showcasing a strong woman who could be a role model for millions.

Comment by Judy

I think she is discriminating against the white race. She plays the race card often so here is her payback.

Comment by James Raymound

Isnt her main viewers married soccer moms 35-50? We do need to remember its Gov. S.Palin, This is just what Oprahs viewers would like to see. She is very energized and Has a wonderful story to tell. Small town girl from Sandpoint Idaho makes good. From PTA to Gov, who wouldn’t love that story?

Comment by Lisa

Come on people, who is Oprah anyway, seriously, I mean it. As a Canadian woman, I never ever understood the allure of “O”. Yes I have many friends who race home from work to catch her show or tape it, again I ask why? I can count on one hand the amount of times I watched her show. Her show is a forum for HER FRIENDS, HER LIKES, HER POLITICS, etc. She is COMPLETELY biased against “those” who she is not in some way “attached ” to. Example, at the top of my head, she had Jennifer Anniston on her show following the break-up with Brad Pitt. Jennifer is one of her girlfriends. She allowed her to slam the man publicly if you will all recall. What the hell is that? Don’t even get me started on the pathetic Anniston. My take on this is that Oprah is once again showing her bias. It’s no secret what she is (as most of those Hollywood types). It shows us all her FEAR that Palin will continue to shine and no amount of her ridiculous questions will rattle Mrs. Palin. THEY ARE VERY AFRAID MY FRIENDS. This is what the Oprah thing says to me. And as far as Jon Bon Jovi, remember he played for the Democrats last go round? A lot of help that was, ha! McCain and Palin will CRUSH their opponents at the polls, of that I’m convinced. I envy your love of country, your patriotism and what that affords you, my American friends. Canada could take a page out of your book. I am a born Canadian of Irish immigrant parents and often said to mom and dad – “you should have fought harder to immigrate to the U.S. instead of settling for Canada! You truly do have the greatest country in the world! For all our sakes here in North America, get out there and vote McCain and Palin!

Comment by Betty

Would Sarah even want to be on with Oprah??

Comment by Ed Reining

Well so much for poor ole Ali getting to sleep in an extra hour. I wish I hand known the show would be an hour earlier, with you on it’s worth the wake!

I don’t think Ophra’s show is much on public service but more to promote her interests. I definitly think she is showing bias and doing a disservice to her millions of fans. Sarah has a broad appeal to women around the country and would only take votes away from her canidate. I think McCane-Palen would even get a bump should she appear, and that is something Ophra doesn’t want to be a part of.

Ali next time give me call when you start early. LOL

Hey Ed,
Just check the blog next time! I tried to alert you yesterday (not via phone — that’s so 90s)

Comment by Betty

I am very disappointed in Oprah. I thought her show was an empowerment to women, and Sarah has shared joys and struggles that many of us have. A special needs child, an unplanned pregnancy, sending a child off to war…….the topics are many, but Oprah’s response was narrow-minded and politically motivated. I doubt she will go through this entire election season without a single mention of Barack or Michelle or their small children. And I believe the fact that she cannot shelver her personal politcs long eough to do a legitimate interview shows just how shallow she really is.

Comment by Nick C.

Oprah’s claim that she is all about empowering women is all gone at this point. Here she has an opportunity to interview the first female Republican VP nominee, who could actually one day become the first woman President, and she declines? Sounds biased to me.

Oprah is a phony.

Comment by Ricardo J

Maybe I’m missing something? Did Oprah say she would NOT have Gov. Palin on EVER?
If the people on this blog care so much about her story and her life, why does it matter when Oprah brings her on the show.

Or is it really about promoting the candidacy of McCain-Palin for conservatives???

Comment by Heidi

Oprah can no longer relate to the common American. She is totally Hollywood and has forgotten where she came from. I believe people will always take her free gifts but not her politics.

Good morning Ms. Alisyn,

This doesn’t surprise me. I have posted this many times here during the Dems primary and it still holds true. Race trumps gender.

This is the reason O will not have her on, this is why she has her support behind Obama and that is why Obama gets so much a pass and favor from the media.

Watch the trip home this afternoon. Stay dry and have a wonderful day.

As always it’s nice to see you this morning.

Oprah probably realizes Palin needs her more than Oprah needs Palin. Just another ploy to marginalize a female candidate that isn’t a democrat, move over Clarence Thomas, it’s now Palin’s turn to be media crucified for being the “right” type of person, but the “wrong” political persuasion which invalidates qualifications!

Comment by Mark H.

Did Gov. Palin say she wanted to be on with the BIG O, or did Ms Winfrey just pipe up that she wouldn’t invite Palin? Pretty arrogant to just assume she would be dying to appear. I would lose some respect for Palin if she even wanted to be a guest, much less be disappointed by a “snub”.

Man, you have the greatest legs ever. Was that a digression? Sorry, but you just came on my tv as i was writing. Where was I?????

Comment by Debbie Blackburn

I really don’t know or care whether this will hurt Oprah’s show. I quit watching when I heard that Oprah had attended Rev. Wright’s church and then backed Obama who did not quit until he was backed into a corner. I beleive that Obama agree’s with Wright. What does this tell us about the famous Oprah.

Oprah WILL lose a lot of viewers by not inviting Governor Palin on her show. At one time I viewed Oprah as fair and balanced, but not anymore. This gives the impression that her show has turned into the liberal left media…in the tank for Obama. It would have been a great way to bring attention to how women are being treated like second class citizens by the good ole boys club. I think her show will suffer greatly because of her decision. Oprah could always bring on the four candidates on her show if she wants to be fair, but this will not happen as this show is now officially the far left liberal media out of touch with ordinary Americans. What a way to lose respect with the American people. She had the opportunity to stand up for all American working and nonworking women, but she blew it. Oprah no longer has my respect, bye Oprah.

You guys have made the show so interesting now, I get up to watch you every weekened! Keep up the good work!

Good morning Aly…I would prefer Sarah not go on Oprah, Oprah has let us know who she is and what and who she stands for. Sarah deserves the best!!! We know what she stands for!!! Gotta Love that Sarah!!

Comment by mike

Sarah doesn’t need Oprah. Oprah already has declared her allegiance to Obama. No fairness would come from such an interview.

Comment by Paul

I think every PTA, soccer, hockey playing, child with a disability mom should get tickets to the Oprah show and stand and turn her back to her during the show. This has nothing to do with politics. This has been a women that has over the years been able to spew her vemon under the disguise of promoting women rights. This is a joke. I’m glad it will take a women like Sarah Palin to expose Oprah as the fraud she really is.

Comment by Kevin

Oprah obviously has a thing against conservatives. She refused to to bring Clarence Thomas, a minority man with a compelling story who just happens to be one of the most powerful people on the face of the earth. He is also a best selling author of a non-political book, so the “staying away from politics” line is nonsense.

But in the end it is her show, she can have on whomever she wants. One would just hope she’d be honest about it, but we know she can’t afford to alienate half of her audience.

I have nothing else to add, so I’ll just say that Alisyn gets more adorable every day. She should have her own network with 24/7 Alisyn coverage.

I’m just saying…

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Kevin,
You flatterer! Even I would get sick of that channel.

I think that Oprah really doesn’t care whether she is republican or not it is about her race.

Us weekley is a terrible rag they published a duel cover thise week and the other cover shows Obama holding his kids and the title says “Life with his Girls” or something along those lines.

That is tipical media cover completely unfair and unbalanced and always leaning towards the demecratic party wishes.

Comment by Janine

Oprah is loyal to Obama and fears a Sarah Palin interview. She knows Obama is in trouble.
I am a mother of four and very conservative…I quit watching Oprah years ago. She has no idea what it is to be a real woman. The day I quit watching the show was when she stated she changes her sheets every two days. I am sure her “maid” does that lovely duty. Also, just to let you know I am not alone on my feeling of Miss Oprah.

Comment by Paul McLean

Hi Alisyn,

Oprah is a very good communicater especially for women and that is why she does not want Sarah Palin to be on her show. Oprah is a bit racially inspired but I think public outcry will force her to have Sarah Palin as a guest. Governor Palin is absolutely the reason I will vote R this year. I do not like McCain because of the way he stabs conservatives in the back and voting D is and always has been out-of-the question. I only wish she was on the top spot.

I am 68 years old and have always voted R and Sarah Palin is the most exciting candidate I can ever remember! I also think that the bone-head of the year is Barack Obama refusing to choose Hillary Clinton as his veep. Looks like the 2012 election will be Sarah against Hillary.

Alisyn you are great and we enjoy you.. Thanks.

Alisyn,

No matter how big of a television personality Oprah is, I don’t think she has a “responsibility” to have Governor Palin on her show. She has every right in the world not to.

However, I think she had better be careful not raise the topic of the Fairness Doctrine on her program anytime in the near future. And I think the consequences of her decision will be decided by her viewership (which happens to be primarily women, I believe).

If her viewers (of which I am not one) decide they don’t like her decision, they will vote with their remote control the next time her program airs. Perhaps they’ll tune in to the Fox News Channel, instead?

Palin needs to tell her the same thing she told the politicians, when they wanted to build that useless bridge…”THANKS BUT NO THANKS!”

Oprah must be worried about Sarah’s fast growing popularity. I also have to wonder what would happen if Oprah were white and she would not let Barack on the show. Al & Jessie would be beating down her door screaming (racism)

Alisyn;

First off, how in the world do you deal with those two goofballs every weekend?…just kidding, guys.

Anyway, as a right wing nutjob, I am ecstatic about Sarah! Oprah is making a big mistake here, but what can she do? She is being seen as promoting the black cause, which happens to be mostly liberal. If she brought Sarah on the couch, she would help add to the already swelling number of women voters flocking towards the republican ticket. I do believe McCain has sealed the election with this pick, and the biggest landslide in history will soon be upon us.

Would you agree with this assessment?

Mark

Comment by Pete

Oprah is running as fast as she can away from Palin. She is a solid Democrat, so one wouldn’t expect a fair and balanced platform for Republicans.

Her numbers dropped after campaigning with Obama.

What upsets me is that she pusjes Obama on the show, then says that she won’t have any candidates on the show.

OK, she want out of politics, but the Sarah Palin story is one ideally suited her her demographic. After all these years of bashing guys on her show, here is a chance to show a woman that really is the American Dream. Wife, mother, professional, independent, ideal traits for women to emulate.

Oprah has really become a phony. It’s put up or shut up time … and she blinked.

Sarah Palin is yet another huge chuck hole in the endless highway of liberal and far left propaganda. The mainstream media has turned to yellow journalism at it’s worst. It has gotten to where you can’t believe anything that is reported by the media with the exception of Fox News and NPR. The party is scared and really shows it. Oprah has turned out to be just another one of the herd with her biased agenda. I will never read another US mag or watch another episode of Oprah. The are all despicable!

Tell Oprah, Thanks but no thanks. Sara has a lot more to do then chat it up with Oprah between now and election day. I went to a rally yesterday in Michigan. John, Cindy and Sara all on stage only 60 feet away from me. The place, Freedom Hill. They were ready for 1000 people. More than 2000 were lined up to get in. WOW it was great. This is the first time I’ve ever given my money to help a politician. It’s not in my budget, you know. But this was more like a hand up and not a hand out because I believe McCain will budget that money and make it go as far as it can. No waste and no over the top stuff.

Comment by Jaclyn

Oprah supported Obama long before he reached national attention to my knowledge, and without an accurate timeline, I can’t say whether his appearances (and Michelle’s) happened after his campaign began or not. I have heard she’s been both a backer and financial supporter of Obama, so we know where her loyalty lies, and since it is her show, it is her right to pick and choose who she wants on and when.

That said, though, I too find it disappointing and enlightening that so-called women groups and individuals who claim they are all for promoting women in all areas, including politics, find themselves dragging their feet or finding “reasons” why they are not proud and getting behind Sarah Palin. NOW has come out with negative comments. Oprah says it’s about not getting political on her show. Obviously it is not ALL women these individuals or organizations include and support, even though they purport to in order to draw women to join or watch them. It appears they represent or want only select women who agree with their political views or goals. Sarah Palin is first a woman and second timely news. There is every reason to want to include her, which is why it is suspicious and discriminating not to include her.

Comment by SlimButtes

95% of the African-Americans in the democratic primary voted for Obama. It is clearly about race, to the point where nothing else matters.

Oprah is beyond disingenuous… this is a blatant lie. How does the network condone this? The liberal media bias isn’t even nuance or subtle, subliminal messaging- when I look back on some of the coverage by people like Campbell Brown, Wolf Blitzer, Chris Mattews, Keith Olberman, Brian Williams, et. al., it is clear that most of the cable news networks are in the tank for Obama.

Comment by Maribeth

Oprah simply can’t help herself. She is so politically biased that she has forgotten about being fair and balanced about anything.

I BELIEVE OLE’ OPIE MADE HER SELF CRYSTAL CLEAR ON HOW SHE FEELS ABOUT HER NEW SNUG-BUG, OBAMA-NATION. IT’S SAD, THAT OPRAH WON’T HAVE THE MOST FAMOUS WOMAN IN THE COUNTRY ON HER SHOW. I GUESS THAT MAKES THE GOVERNER’S(MS. PALIN) DECESION ON WETHER OR NOT TO MAKE THE MISSTAKE TO APPEAR ON HER SHOW REAL EASY.

Comment by Glenda Yeste

Good for Oprah! She has absolutely no responsibility to have this woman on her show. An unknown,
until a week ago. The Gov. refuses to answer questions, and guarded from the press, it’s very clear
she’s not ready for “Prime Time”, much less,…..Day One-as V.P…..A heartbeat away from the Pres.
If, in fact she’s so Tough,…”The Pit-Bull, with Lipstick”? She calls herself, whats she afraid of? Just
because McCains Campaign didn’t thoroughly vet her, why should that be left up to Oprah? Believe
me, the press will eventually do that. Your lady guest, Kathleen, thinks women should support her
just because she’s a woman. How Ridiculous!! Besides, she supports everything Oprah, and alot of
us do not support. Too Conservative and(I’m gentle) to say the least. If she can play with the big
boys, and earn her substance, and not just STYLE, Then women, and all americans, will take a look
and listen, until then get out of the kitchen little lady.

Hi Alisyn,
Really don’t care much about the Oprah thing. It’s her show, she already backs Obama, ’nuff said.
I like Dave, started drinking at 14, bringing Seagrams in a diet soda bottle to school. I never fit with jocks or the brains. I gravitated to the heads. Bringing booze or pot to school was a way to make friends, appear, at least a little, cool. After years being picked on and being the last picked for any sport, it felt good to be accepted.
And yes, it did cause problems in my adult life. Finally got things together at around 35 years old.
At 40, I realized, with great relief, that I didn’t have to be cool any more. I could relax.
I wonder how many kids die doing things just to be “cool”.

Until tomarrow…

Oprah definitely has many viewers, but maybe she has been made out to be bigger than she really is. Sarah Palin makes her own publicity by just being Sarah Palin. When it comes to Sarah Palin, it’s like handing the media types a bottle of nitro glycerin and asking them to set it on the table gently. Not too many will take it from you!

I have always had alot of admiration for Oprah Winfrey in the PAST. I used to record her shows as I worked and did not want to miss any. I was impressed at how she could bring alot of troubled issues onto her show and seemed to show all aspects of the story. BUT since she has started using her fame to “bully” her viewers offends me. In the past someone like Sarah Palin couldn’t be on her show soon enough. I am sure the more politically biased her show becomes the fewer viewers she will have…

Although I wish Oprah would put Palin on her show, I do not believe she should have to. It is her show after all. What I really wonder, however, is…………if Condeleeza Rice had been named as McCains’s VP would Oprah’s decision have been the same? I’m not sure. It didn’t take Oprah long to roll out for Obama when he was up against a more qualified candidate who happened to be a caucasian female and shared his political platfom. While it seemed that Oprah was showing her partisan stripes, she may indeed have been showing her other stripes.
And, as far as drinking at fourteen goes………I vividly recall drinking and smoking at the age of twelve. Peer pressure was not a factor, but I seem to remember it being tied in to job stress and concerns about my career advancement at the time.

Actually…who cares if she is on or not. Oprah has just given her more press by her comments. I am disgusted that we actually pay attention to any comments she makes

One question….as to womens comments…has anyone heard from Hillary? What does she think about Sarah Palin

I find it very hard to understand that Oprah, of all people, would refuse to have Gov. Palin on her show. She has always been a champion of women, and now she denies airtime to a woman that could be the most powerful the world has ever seen. It’s just sad and disappointing.

Comment by Nancy Burnik

I really don’t care who Oprah puts on her show and I really don’t care if she lies about why or why not she does or doesn’t put someone on her show. In the big picture it matters not. What matters is why we have starving children in our country, why we’re still in Iraq, why, after 3 years, Louisiana still suffers the effects of Katrina, why our infrastructure is in deplorable condition and why, when it so easily could be otherwise, are we still so dependent on foreign oil?

Politics and T.V. where does it stop, And why should it start? Is it right for one t.v. host to have a person running for a certain party on their show? Do they now become A political forum, And no longer A talk show? Should you not show A certain party, Even if their not officaly running at that time? Now I decide not to have A guest that stands for everything I want women to be,and seems to be what I would think A rollmodel should be for women. The problem is that she stands for everything poltical that I don’t. So now I decide not to have this person on my show untill after the election. All along I have supported the other partys politics. Most of my viewers want to see this person, because she represents all what A women should be. Now I have to decide is my show A place where I push my politics on millions of people, and decide not to talk about the other partys politics. Now I have to ask, has my show become a part time political forum for my party, and A part time talk show? What do you think

Comment by Alice Teeters

I think Oprah again has made a mistake, her soul series talks about the empowerment of women and the equality of women in the country. Now she is going to pull this crap about not providing a platform, I hope that this shows the country that she is no better then the rest of the left wing media. I hope she loses thousands and thousands of women, but we all know that she won’t because sadly most are just like her when it comes to being left winged. She should stick to her talk show and stay out of politics.

Comment by Alice

Oprah should have never brought politics into her show but she did when she brought Obama. Now she says she doesn’t do politics? I quote her:
“I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. ”

Sarah Palin is a threat to liberals. She has tremendous appeal because she looks like the girl next door and people are curious and would like to know what kind of person she is which is something that could be talked about on the Oprah show.

I have always liked Oprah but I was disappointed when she got involved in politics.

I am so disgusted with OPRAH!! She is the most racist woman I have ever seen!! I am a strong Hillary Clinton supporter and I am voting for MCCAIN/PALIN 08!! I will not support Barack Obama because he is wrong on all the issues and he flip-flops. He can’t even vote yes or no. He votes “PRESENT”!! Are you kidding? I hate him and will never support him!!

I just listened to your ” Parent Expert” who is she to say what Sarah Palin and her husband should or should not do or to offer them any advise. I found her answer to your question on teen pregnancy off track.. 18 year olds are adults seems to me the parents have raised a child to take personal responsibility for her choices. Not one word of that from your guest who in my opinion shared her opinion with a biased message. Why are some woman so afraid of Sarah? Maybe another Parent expert opinion would really be fair and balanced!

Oprah appears to be on track with liberal media to double-speak (her venue not for political purposes but has featured Barack on her show, appears with him at conventions, etc). The question should be asked (and is being asked) whether shows like hers are truly for the public in a non-biased fashion, or for the dissemination of a hidden agenda. Ultimately the decision is hers and viewers need to ask whether they should continue to support her by watching her show, subscribing to her magazine or purchase the products advertised on her show. Ultimately, the left fears boycotts by the more radical (Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton) who have threatened to boycott products and services in the face of perceived inequality. Maybe it is time for conservative consumers to “stand up” and stop letting solid moral values increasingly deteriorate over time given the media’s unwillingness to report fairly.

I’ve been increasingly horrified by what the media is not saying versus what it does say. Megyn Kelly should be given a fat raise for her interview with U.S. weekly for their smearing of Sarah Palin. The editor’s implication of “not enough time to research as the facts” as a crutch wasn’t valid as most relevent facts on Sarah could be readily “googled” within 30 minutes of her announcement as V.P.

With the anniversary of 9/11 coming up (I’m a survivor), I think any prolonged focus on its historical significance is likely to cause many to rethink casting a vote for Barack or the Democrats who let America’s security rot on their watch. It will be interesting (I fear) to see whether the liberal media focuses less time on its anniversary given this dynamic. When 9/11 first happened, even the left admitted that every year the video of the building’s collapse should be replayed so the citizens of the country know what we’re up against. Will be interesting to see if they keep their word.

Go John, go Sarah!

Alisyn, I don’t know why Oprah would not want Sarah on her show. She is exactly the kind of guest’s that she has had on her show in the past. Oprah appeals to women, and Im sure there are alot of women out there that would like to hear her story. Alisyn also about the amount of children that Sarah will have at home while she is VP is actually 3. Her eldest is going to the Army, her second oldest is getting married so actually that only leaves 3 children at home. Please remind people of this.

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Actually Mike, it’s not been announced where her 17-year-old daughter will live or when she’ll get married. Also unclear where Palin’s son will live once he returns from Iraq.

Who is Oprah? I live in S.W. IN and once believed that each candidate was given equal time on each network. Guess not. Have a good day.

Comment by Nat Watkins

It is her show so she can do as she pleases. That being said however, she is showing the world the left wing media at its best. Her saying she will not use her show as a political machine is simply a lie!

Comment by Mary

It would serve the voters to hear from Sarah Palin on Oprah but it would not serve Opra/Obama, therefore she has proven all she is working for is to have the first black president. I believe many democrats like myself are starting to realize what is going on with our party. They didn’t support Hillary now they need her to get her votes. My vote is going to McCain/Palin. I was impressed with the RNC.

What a shame- I would have expected more from Oprah, but oh how very typical at the same time. Tsk Tsk. Oprah should be ashamed. Someone in her position should know the importance of being fair and unbiased in her SHOW choices. Of course she is entitled to her opinion, but should know that her audience relies on her to make balanced choices. How very disappointing. Shame on you Oprah.

Oprah Winfrey,

She believes she is beyond reproach. In the past she has been an inspiration to millions of people. This seems to have gone to her head. The “Queen” of Talk Television needs to retire. We do not need celebrities in every aspect of our life. We are way too intelligent and educated to be influenced by celebrities. Just change the channel folks. Watch FOX News!

Hey Alisyn, just want to bring up the fact that Sarah Palin will really only have three children at home, which as you know is still a handfull. Her son is in the service and the daughter will be getting married. And of course the two daughters at home will be in school like the rest of the worlds children and IM assuming that there is no place to drill for gas or oil in Washington, so hubby Todd will be at home helping with the baby and helping with the two daughters.
It will work out like it does for all of us, we do what we have to do right? IM not sure what kind of schools are in Washington for the baby, but I can’t help to think that the resources for him will be better in Washington.
It’s all gonne be fine! and IM stoked!
Great to see you on the weekend, they realllllllllllly needed you!

Comment by Suzanne S.

I stopped watching Oprah years ago as she is the most biased of all the talk show hosts. It is no surprise that she isn’t going to have Gov. Palin on her show. She is afraid of Palin and knows, deep down, if no showing it publically, that Gov. Palin is going to throw the Republican ticket over the top. She knows that Gov. Palin has not only the “female” appeal, but the intellect; and is on the right side of the issues before our country in this election. Simply, Oprah is a coward and biased.

Comment by Cheryl

Oprah and NOW are two of a kind and I don’t need either of them. I doubt Sarah Palin does either.

Comment by Candace

That just proved to me that Oprah is supporting Obama for one reason only. Because he is BLACK. She would be all over this female VP if not for that. I just deleted her off my DVR. DONE!

Comment by Ole Phil

Sara Palin has the Democrats so discombobulated that they are unable to respond coherentlt. That they can only reach down into the depth of their campaign cesspool to try to bring her down is clear evidence of this.

Comment by Laura V from Canada

It is fianally obvious to many that the feminist movement has NOTHING to do with the empowerment of women and everything to do with the agenda. Tow the line and you are in; have a different view of the world and you are out of the club. Just look at all the feminist celebrities coming out against Gov. Palin. She doesn’t fit the mold. And it comes down to one topic–abortion. Nothing more, nothing less.

Comment by Alice

I have always liked Oprah but I am disappointed since she went into politics. She brought Obama and his wife on her program and now she says she doesn’t want to provide a platform.(?)

Sarah Palin poses a threat to liberals because of her next-door-mom appeal. This is why Oprah’s viewers would like to see her on the show so they can know more about Sarah Palin the person, not the politician.

Big mistake.

Hi, Ali! Say Hi to Clayton and Dave, too! You all energize my weekend mornings!

Here’s my observation: If Sarah Palin was actually applying for the “job” of Vice Presidant of the United States, and the Democrats and main stream media were doing the actual interviewing, they would be in violation of the Equal Opportunity and Civli Rights laws.

The way they are questioning her ability to be a mom and do a job is in clear violation of U.S. laws that protect (supposedly) us regular working folks. Maybe the laws really only protect Liberals.

Just food for thought.

If Oprah was a true talk show host she would have Palin on, but since she uses her show to further her political agenda, she has proven once again, that it is all about Oprah. I am sure if it was any other women who believed in Oprah’s politcal agenda she would be on the show. The more the press brutalizes Sarah the stronger she shines.

Comment by Claudette

Oprah made her show political the day she endorsed BHO and shortly thereafter her viewership dropped. Oprah is not alone though in her “I am for equal rights for women as long as they agree with me or are Democrats.” Yesterday, I read that Barbra Streisand put out a statement that John McCain thinks he will get women voters by putting Gov. Palin on the ticket and Barbra then said, “Women are not THAT stupid.” Does that mean she thinks woman are somewhat stupid!

Good Morning, Alisyn! Love being able to watch you keep Dave and Clayton in their places!

Everyone left of center is terrified of Sarah Palin. Terrified. Remember – as soon as she was announced as the Vice Presidential candidate, Obama came out whining about having more experience than she. Didn’t Axelrod – who usually instructs and guides everything but Obama’s breakfast cereal (and likely that, too) – remind Obama that HE is running for President which is against McCain? His inane, egocentric second banana Biden is running against Palin. Moreover, he’s running FROM Palin. Even Oprah is terrified of her. Oprah has chosen race over gender – and little makes a woman angrier than having one ot their own betray them.

This is a blatant example of Oprah countering all the warm, loving, non-ego-driven “teaching” of her guru Eckhardt Tolle. She is like all the other Elites – terrified of someone honest, hardworking, unafraid, and genuine. Sarah Palin would eviscerate Oprah not unlike she has already destroyed Obama.

This is so much fun to watch…

Comment by d wiles

I stopped watching “O” some time ago, figured out then where she was coming from. Now my wife of 45yrs knows and will not watch her. We don’t like the corner she has put herself into.

Comment by Ryan

With Oprah being a supporter of Obama, does that necessarily mean that she deserves negative feedback in regards to not having a republican rival on her show? But on the flipside, it seems to be that Rush Limbaugh is a strong supporter of the Republican ticket, and I’m guessing that he would enjoy to have Obama on his radio show.

If Oprah stands on this decison, she desereves some respect, as she does show being strong of whom she supports. It could possibly be a humbling experience for Oprah if she decides to have Palin on her show, as Palin may pass Oprah and become the most successful woman in America.

I hope that Oprah changes her mind for the public’s best interest.

Comment by Georgia Girl

I have been a life time fan of Oprah – that is until recently. It has become increasingly clear that Oprah has one mission in life only. That mission is to promote her race, and of course that includes supporting Obama. If she cannot be objective enough to have this wonderful woman on her show no matter her politics, tells it all for me. I’m done with “Oprah”! My DVR will be tuned to FOX NEWS during that time slot beginning Monday.

Comment by Brenda Rider

I just love your show – it is nice to hear facts not just constant bashing. I WAS pretty worried about
the election, but now I have hope. I am, it looks like, a concervative- I really could care less what
someone IS – it is more of, what they SAY. I wasn’t totally happy with McCain but was starting to
read more about him and what he had to offer, I would NEVER vote for Obama. I am stunned that
so many people are so taken with Obama – It always matters in any other situation WHO you have/run
around with in your life when you are applying for any job. THESE are my interests – God- Constitution
National Security, and THEN Economics etc. I will vote for the person that is closest to my views, and
Obama can NEVER fit the ticket! Waaaay too far from what I call the REAL America. I am a Gun
toting, Bible believing, strong independant women and I was TOTALLY thrilled to hear Sarah Palins
speech. I only had heard of the Alaskan Gov credentials before I knew she was a woman- THEN I
was ecstatic. This woman could be ME, my SISTER, or one of my FRIENDS. You betcha Oprah
doesn’t want to have her on– eye lashes falling off for Obama? I am sickened by Oprahs performance.
Very hypocritical of women organizations to spit on Palin-how dare them. And as for mud slinging? I
think Palin gave back to what was dished out to her! AWESOME- I am PROUD of the McCain/Palin ticket! Thank you for letting me VENT my beliefs here!

My feeling is Oprah won’t invite Sarah Palin to appear on her show for a lot of reasons, but I think the 2 most important reasons are is that she is pro-life and most of Oprah’s viewers are not and the fear of Sarah Palin becoming even more popular and likeable therefore she and John McCain would be elected. All the Fox programs are great, but Fox and Friends is my favorite. You Rock!!!

Comment by JD

Greta’s vote last night was like 97-3 yesterday that people thought Oprah’s reason was less than honest, and I agree. Oprah could invite her on and talk moose hunting, her favorite books, fashion, hair design, and child care, while none of these issues alone would get Gov Palin elected, it would at least give her audience a taste of what she’s like off the stump. The same taste Obama got, because lets face it Obama has been running for president since he was a community organizer. I hope Oprah does the stupid thing and not invite her she deserves having her ratings suffer.

BTW Alisyn, I thought your wing men on the show were pretty dissmissive of Sarah Palin’s experience, (last week), of 16 years of exp being a Mayor, Councilwoman, and Governor, especially when we’re talking Alaska and it’s critical role in energy and defense of our country.

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Not sure what segment you’re refering to JD. I’ve never heard them be dismissive.

Comment by Chris DeCapua

My wife and I were at a party last night, and I can safely say that “Palin Power” is alive and well. It was all people were talking about. It’s all people wanted to talk about. America is smitten wit Sarah Palin.

The left doesn’t get it. Her popularity is not because she’s a woman. People like her because she’s real, she’s confident, and she’s not afraid. I heard that prior to her acceptance, the largest crowd she had ever spoken to was 700 people. If true, that is amazing.

Anyway, in all my years of following American politics, I have never seen anything or anyone like Sarah Palin. In one short week, she has become a household name. The people that I spoke with at the party were enamored with Sarah. They can’t get enough of her, and they are motivated to vote. The irony of the Oprah issue is that Oprah is one person that I’ve seen the same devotion to. But if last night was any indicator, Oprah has lost alot of viewers, and US Weekly has lost alot of subscribers.

Ali, this is my first attempt a blogging and I apologize if my lack of skills in the high tech society fail miserably.
I really feel that Oprah has a sense of loyalty to Obama to where her unbiased journalism takes a back seat. She just might find that she likes ands admires Gov Palin as much as we do!!! I also think that it goes against everything that this country represents especially since Oprah is depriving Gov. Palin of the same equal opportunity that she herself has been given in this wonderful country. Jamie Wilkins from NC

Hi – this is my first time to write so I may be doing this wrong but I wanted to send what is probably a very insignifican comment. It’s not related to the Oprah comments but that’s the only place I could find to send a note. I’ll study the website better when I have time to see what I’m doing wrong. Anyway, I just wanted to comment how I think it is so kind of John McCain to always keep Cindy beside him or at his side especially since Sarah has come on the scene. You can tell he is thrilled to have Sarah on board but he is so considerate to keep Cindy right up there with them so as not to make her feel left out of the picture. Just an observance from a huge Fox and Friends fan and a huge John and Sarah fan. Cindy too. Thanks. Love the weekly show and the weekend show. You’re great.

Oprah is a very accomplished woman and a great role model; however, I believe she does not want Sarah Palin on her show because Sarah will steal the show from her. In Mr. Obama’s appearances he appears to pay homage to Oprah as if he was greatful to appear on her show. I do not think Ms. Palin would do the same.
I read in the past the Oprah’s percentage of viewers has decreased after she came out in support of Obama….this decissionmight contribute to a decline as well.

Does Sarah Palin even care about going on the Oprah show? Even if she was invited, Sarah should say “thanks but no thanks” as she did the bridge to nowhere. WOW…Oprah is truly missing the greatest opportunity to help America and women (all women no party lines) to show girls can grow up and lead the greatest country in the world. But yet she choses to only support the liberal agenda. How sad. I thought she was one of the few journalists left in the media that could or would allow America to see who Sara Palin really is in an unbiased interview sitting on Oprah’s sofa just talking one on one with all America to see.

On another note: the Obama GA grassroot organizations are sending out mass email asking people to join their forces. Below ia my reply to the email:

I have received an email requesting my help to join the forces of the grass roots level for the Obama group. “No experience is required.” was stated below in the email for a community organizer, isn’t this exactly the qualifications of Barack Obama. NO EXPERIENCE and yet the Democrats want to put him in office to lead our country…No thanks.

I am a middle class working mom (middle school teacher) who will vote for McCain/Palin and help get out the vote for REAL CHANGE! Finally a ticket that truly GETS IT! Thank goodness McCain had the vision to have Palin join him to CHANGE Washington! I’m so glad to finally have a woman who can truly represent middle America and understands what families really need. Middle Americans do not want handouts. We can provide for ourselves…we don’t need the big government making decisions for us.

I think there are many reasons Oprah doesn’t want Sarah Palin on her show. The 2 that I think are the main reasons are 1) She is pro-life and most of Oprah’s viewers are not. 2) She is pro-Obama and she fears her fans will see how likeable she is and vote the McCain Palin ticket. Fox and Friends Rocks!!

let Laura Ingram interview her.
As for US magazine I own 2 Supermarkets in Michigan and have taken all the magazines off my shelves and will never sell a US magazine again or any other magazine they own.
Go Sarah kick Obamas butt

Comment by Jean MacKenzie

Ms Palin doesn’t need Opray, there may come a day – very soon I hope – when Opray will regret this decision and will need Ms. Palin. Who is Opray? Talented, wealthy tv personality, but that doesn’t mean she is more intelligent than the many millions who dedicate themselves to her show. Her audience may trip her up yet with this obvious slanted political position. She’s just like the rest of that Hollywood crowd. IF she remembers her roots, IF she believes in equality, IF she is honest with herself (doubt that) she’ll gladly present Ms Palin to her vast audience and let the chips fall where they may.

I sure do miss you on the weekday morning program. Hopefully there will be a transition and you will return. You are far more interesting, I believe intelligent and have a great sense of humor. All of which are missing with the present morning gal. Good luck.

I hope Sarah never goes on her show!!! Oprah is an obvious racist on top of her other qualities of narcissism and ego mania. Yes, she is plenty rich and she may buy Barak a trip to the White House but, the good news is that on election day she only get one vote just like the rest of us

Comment by Rob Gaudet

Sarah Palin is becoming a polarizing eye opener for average Americans. She is going to expose how those who have claimed to be pro-woman are actually simply pro their own liberal agenda. And have been hijacking the pro-woman cause to grab womens’ attention, cloaking their true intentions.

I sense a backlash coming to oprah for her under radar liberal leanings, watch out all of you in the media who have been fooling the un-enlightened. A few other names come to mind, katie couric, martha stewart will any of you stand up for Palin?

One honest American woman is going to bring down more than the glass ceiling, she is going to obliterate the iron curtain of the media bias with the truth, oh and it could only be done by a woman!
THAT IS POWERFUL!

Comment by Liz K

Hillary Clinton’s campaign claimed sexism during the primaries. I would have a lot more respect for her if she would step up and decry the treatment many in the media are giving Gov. Palin. Instead, she is apparently going to go to Florida to campaign for Obama whom she clearly can’t stand. Apparently, it’s Party first for her. Gee, maybe she’ll get invited to go on Oprah since she is no longer a candidate.

Governor Palin represents the total package for women; Charisma, Character and a successful, smart working mom, to me represents what women have fought for many years. Ophra obviously has double standards when it comes to representing women! Perhaps her viewers will see that she has a stronger support for democrats than she does for women.

I know nobody wants to say it but the reason why oprah doesn’t want Sarah Palin on her show is because she is a racist. She doesn’t care about politics she just wants to see a black person in office no matter if he is qualified or not. I mena if she wanted to help people she could of built a school or a hospital in chicago instead of Africa.

just my opinion i could be wrong.

Oprah endorsed Obama on her show, and was a member of that church with Obama, and when she left the church thats when Pastor Wright started to call her all kinds of names, but Obama stayed, only left when the media started asking questions about his mentor and his racist views,
and if she was really for women, what happened with Hillary,
she agrees with her political views,
I dont want Sarah Palin to go on Oprah, Sarah Palin is a conservative woman and Oprah doesnt agree with her, so why bring her on her show,
but many of her viewers are conservative women, and Oprah will lose a lot of viewer over this, and Im glad because most people always thought that she was fair and balanced, yeah untill it comes to race.

I am not surprised that Oprah will not have Sara on, it only furthers to show the elitist following of Obama and their fears. On a separate note I wish Fox would get out of the gutter (Alisyn) about Sara’s ability as a mother etc. here are a few answers to your report this AM. For one she will have 3 not 5 children at home ( 1 married 1 at war) and her husband will do just fine. For another who in the position of VP would not have house staff to help? As an Alaska Resident you can beleive that my wife and I would not hesitate to have her as President with her family so VP should be a snap!!

Thanks Allyson for covering this issue. I’m not really surprised about Oprah. I think she is really missing out. We all want to know more about Sarah. We would all certainly tune in, and she can’t have that. After all, she is probably Obama’s sugar mamaaaa!

Hey, did you see people at the RNC convention in red t-shirts that said SISTERS FOR SARAH? I’ve looked online and can’t find them. Can you check that out or does anyone know? would appreciate it.

Great job Allyson! We love you.

ok so can you tell me… did anyone ask Biden what kind of horrible father he was because he left his boys right after they had been in a bad accident that killed their mother and sister to go work in DC? Or tell me anyone think of saying that to McCain? Or hey how about Nancy Pelosi who leaves her 5 children in CA while she travesl to DC? … in case no one paid attn. VP lives in DC… lik 5 minutes from their home. Who would dare to say that Hilary, Rosalyn Carter, or Jaci didn’t step up and take care of the children? But you will say that of Todd?

Oprah has a right to her opinion, can showcase whomever she wishes, and there’s little doubt she is backing the charismatic Obama. I do, however, believe it will be shown she’s sold her audience a bill of goods… again. No thanks, Oprah.

As for the lightweight Obama, I can only say, “talk’s cheap”. Just being “present” doesn’t get it when you are president of the most powerful country in the world.

I found it interesting that Joe Biden had the expression of a deer in headlights the day after Sarah Palin’s convention speech. His face seemed to say, this isn’t going to be as easy as I thought and perhaps I should have kept my original stance of being nobody’s VP! Or did he just realize that if they do win, he’s going to have to make all the decisions because the tough ones are going to be above Obama’s pay grade?

I wonder if Sarah Palin had never been chosen as a VP canidate, and was just doing her job as govenor of Alaska, if Oprah would elect to have Palin on her show. Palin faces alot of challenges as a mother, ans she has an inspring life story to share. Being picked as a VP canidate doesn’t change who Palin is and what she stands for.

My vote is for McCain & Palin (and so is my mother’s & grandmother’s)

Humm. Finally people are seeing Oprah for what she really is.Sarah is a heck of a lot classier of woman then what Oprah wants to be.I am a independent but i will vote for McCain.Think its kind of funny that Oprah might be losing her chance to get her flunky in as President so she can rule without running.I also noticed the difference in the way Repub. and Dems people dress differently. After watching both the week long shows(Ugh)i think the Repubs dress more elegant and act better.I think people ought to boycott her show pubicly.
Oh and by the way if those young men on the stage were not married i would go after them in a heart beat.I always tell my daughter that when i am 90 i will be sitting on a bar stool,no teeth, wearing a depend, with my walker beside me, flirting with young men like them lol

Alisyn: I am a Fox News Junkie for sure and really enjoy the morning guys/gals!

My comment is about Sarah Palin’s ability to juggle five children and the VP job. Shouldn’t it be noted that her eldest son is in the Army and leaving the homefront at this time? Shouldn’t we consider that we have a 17-year-old who might be leaving the nest or is, at best, a great mother’s helper if in the household? That leaves three at home with a 14-year-old, who can also help considerably, and a husband/father, who has been helping quite well to date. None of the older childrens’ ages should diminish the need for support and guidance from a parent, but their one-on-one needs are different from the two younger children, who are definitely more hands-on.

For a 4-year commitment to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity serving in the highest office of the USA, I think the Palin household will be just fine!

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Judie, I like your logic until the 17-year-old mother’s helper part. Isn’t it more likely that as a teenaged mother, the 17-year-old will need her own mother’s help?

First, I think Sarah shouldn’t give any credibility to OW who is a racist!

And secondly, the next time one of them (democrats) asks you about Sarah Palin’s suitability tell them;
“Even if your question about Sarah Palin’s credentials had some merit (which it doesn’t) what difference does it make to you? If you are so confident YOUR guy will win, it shouldn’t bother you a bit?! Unless you know your guy is an empty suit and she is what WE know she is, which is a BIG threat to beat you!”

I came in on tail end of Oparah conversation. Did Gov Palin ask to be on Oparah? If not who cares. Yes Oparah is a successful TV personality but I think she gives herself a little too much credit. At the end of the day most people dont say WHAT WOULD OPARAH DO IN THIS SITUATION?

Oprah is biting the hands that feed her. I work full time and do not TIVO so I do not have a chance to see her show that often, although if I am home I do turn her on. No longer. She was so so supportive of Bill and Hillary Clinton, until Obama announced his run. She is being disengenuous. you hit the nail on the head. If she has Paln on the show, McCain’s poll ratings will go up. Oprah is losing viewers and subscribers, right along with US weekly. Her BFF Gayle King constantly gushes about Obama on her show- (XM, OPRAH & FRIENDS). Gayle campaigns along with Oprah and each day makes a point to talk about Obama- where he is in the campaign, what he said, How wonderful he is….and Michele too.
So, to say that Oprah doesn’t want to get into politics on her show is just a complete farce. The Oprah and friends station is hers. And they constantly campaign for Obama on that channel.

Another point– Let’s discuss McCain’s and Obama’s designer dresses and hairstyles….
not just the female candidates and the wives….

Comment by Heector Ballon

A women’s show that is not correcting the record when women are attacked?

It is not only the fact that “O” is not having Sarah, but now that we have all seen who Cindy McCain is, the daughter of a self made Millionaire who did not become an air head but the President of her father’s empire while doing so much charity work. The Dems should add the hospices and hospitals to the McCain’s homes.

McCain has the total package:

The best candidate for President.
The best candidate for Vice President
The best First Lady.
The best First Dude, Sarah’s husband, the real macho man who pitches in to further his wife’s career.

Please…. Sara Palin has 5 children… but frankly Democrats… do the math.

As of September 2008, lets look at the ages of her children and the parenting involved:

– son Track (b. 1989) is 19 – old enough to go to the military. The only mothering Gov Palin is going to do here is to worry about his health and welfare.

– daughter Bristol (b. 1991) is 17 – clearly this young woman with a finance has taken a great leap towards marriage and becoming a mom. Gov Palin is not about to be spoon feeding this young woman.

So we’re down to three children… By comparison, Sen Obama has two children, a working wife/mom.. and he’s vying to be President!

– daughter Willow (b. 1995) is 14 – 14, I remember our four kids being 14, and the last thing Willow wants is an overbearing parent. Besides Dad is alive and involved.

– daughter Piper (b. 2001) is 7 – this little charmer, evident by her show stopping appearance at the GOP convention (loved her wave), will have the Secret Service running around playing hide n seek. Didn’t John John and Caroline get the run of the White House, and that was just so cute with the Dems.

– son Trig (b. 2008) is 4 months old. Ok, so we’re down to one little baby. He’s a doll, cute as a button. I think that between Sara and Todd, they will dote on this beautiful gift.

So we have a working mom, living in means, with lots of help from Dad, Willow, Piper and Bristol. It’s called a family.

Let’s not forget you Alisyn… three children under 5 and you get up at the all important 3 am to do the show!

I am not surprised at her decision to not have Sarah on her program. Opra has become so powerful that she like Obama has become arrogant. It appears that in her position she can dictate who and how her show is presented. I’m sure in her beginnings she would not have chosen her show as a political platform for what the back lash would have been. She is just following in the footsteps of most celebrates now days. I don’t believe the female issue has anything to do with it. Putting a black man trumps anything else for most black people. This may be interpreted as a racial statement but it’s true. You were asking on your program this morning questions if Sarah could handle being VP and taking care of her family. I found this very offensive but you felt it had a right to be asked and discussed. I have a thought for you; what if God forbid something happen to Sarah’s husband or someone like him through a natural disaster, illness or divorce would that mean the remaining female spouse would be presented with this question? Would this person be expected to go on welfare so she could stay at home and take care of the kids? This happens to many families every day and the one’s I know would not have been told you can’t keep your kids or work because you can’t work out and raise your children properly. At least she has her husband but it sounds like the lady on your show really pretty much dismissed him as the major caregiver. Do people not think before they make these statements? Why does the media keep this question in their talking points? Can they not find anything more relevant to discuss? One more thing most of her children are old enough to help out. Everyone keeps saying five children like they are all at the age they need constant care. Please, stop insulting our ability just because we are females.

Comment by Nan

Can anyone answer the question as to WHY Obama claims to be black when his parents are both black and white and his black father walked out leaving his white mother and white grandparents to raise him??? I am offended at this as I feel he is trying to manipulate this election by trying to become “the first black president”! He can bring up his white relatives when he needs to – but he always claims to be black. Does this bother anyone else????

Well, Oprah has proved what I have said about her for years. She is a self-promoting wind bag who only cares about her own agenda and not the women she professes to care about. She really is a non-entity in this matter and I don’t really care what she thinks. Sarah is far better woman and more classy and smarter than Oprah will ever be. Oprah may come personally to regret her decision.

Can you imagine the life of Sarah Palin – mother to a 19-year-old boy headed to Iraq on 9/11. That alone would kill me. Then the unmarried pregnant daughter engaged to the teenage boy, the Down syndrome baby boy, the handsome ‘first dude’ as she calls her husband, the other beautiful daughters – that adorable little girl who was all over the place as the convention, kissing the baby, waving to the audience like a queen, grabbing Senator McCain by the leg…

And to top it all of she is on the cover of all the magazines, the subject of all the blogs and TV news shows, jetting all over the country with a microphone in one hand and a burping cloth in the other. And gonna be Vice President on top of all that! She must be torn in a million directions and floating on a cloud all at once.

From the moment I saw her make her intro the day McCain introduced her a week ago, I have been in awe! Thank You God for sending us this amazing, staunchly conservative, brave woman and I cannot wait to watch what she does next!

Good morning Alisyn,

Oprah, and other people in show business need to stop wasting perfectly good air time by forcing their political views upon the American people. That includes their choice for Presidentail candidates. When will they ever learn that
1. Show business is show business
2. We don’t care who you support
3. We actually read, hence, are capable of making our own informed decision
4. They place their own professional career in jeopardy by endorsing a candidate

Oprah is a racist. I called her show years ago when she had a fashion show on. When a balck woman was modeling she was intentinally drooling all over them telling them “sister you look fantastic” and the white woman just walked the stage. When Sarah gets in the White House I hope Oprah remembers how she was in the tank for Obama and “it wouldn’t be right” to have her on the show. She doesn’t want her now she shouldn’t want her later. How can she interview Paulin the Vice President with an open mind?

Comment by Bob

It was just mentioned on the show that the corporate jet was sold on Ebay. The jet was listed on Ebay but not sold because the minimum bid wasn’t reached. It was then sold to an Alaskan businessman. McCain incorrectly said it was sold for a profit but they lost money. Trying to sell it on Ebay is a great story but they are spoiling that story by getting the rest of it wrong.

Well, this is interesting. Oprah is the creator, owner and star of her show and therefore has the right to host – or not host – anyone she wants.

That said, did anyone else get underlying admission from a very well crafted statement – I am not capable of objectivity.

That is what I got out of her statement.

Comment by Linda Lovely

Hi, Alysin, I enjoy your show very much and wouldn’t miss it.

Re: Oprah and Governor Palin, one must remember that Oprah is an entertainer (just as Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Barbara Streisand, etc. are) and not a news anchor or even a reporter. She has become someone who makes her living influencing public opinion by plastering her own opinions in every communication medium she can including television, magazines, books, and thereby becoming a public personality. This public persona has nothing to do with her native intelligence or educational level or sophistication. It has everything to do with marketing and publicity, the same avenues through which her friend, Barack Obama, has become a public personality.

No one should expect that she would be fair or impartial, unless they don’t understand her role which is simply enriching herself by attempting to influence the public. She has no responsibility to be fair unless she chooses to be and it enriches her pocketbook.

That’s part and parcel of how the American public has been duped into thinking that the opinions of entertainers have any more merit than the opinions of the man on the street. Entertainers have taken advantage of their positions in the limelight to push their opinions, sometimes infantile, nasty, and useless opinions, on the American public who are foolish enough to watch or listen to them.

It is distressing that even the mainstream media who are supposed to be professionals have abandoned their responsibility to the American public for fair reporting, except for Fox News. Little surprise that Fox has the largest audience today and will continue to have as long as the public perceives that they are responsible in their reportage.

Sad but true.

A person as refreshing as Governor Palin would never appeal to Oprah because Oprah knows she cannot make a fool of her nor exploit her for Oprah’s own purposes, in fact, Oprah might well come off second best, a position Oprah would disdain!

Thanks for your great shows on Fox — OReilly, Hannity (& Colmes), Fox and Friends, Fox News (Megyn) Neil Cavuto, we enjoy them all!

Good Morning Alisyn, Oprah has exposed her true character. Gov. Palin has emerged as a strong, intelligent, patriotic, self made Lady that embodies the “Traditional Values” of America. Oprah can not risk 2 things:#1. Gov. Palin would take her place as “America’s most Successful Woman”. #2. Women would tune in, like Gov. Palin and vote for her ticket instead of Sen. Obama’s.

Oprah! Oprah! Oprah! What have you done? This is just another time in the media coverage that the celebrity biased comes out for Obama. As coverage comes and goes on stations and television talk shows, the liberals never want two sides to the story. Believe in theirstories or nothing! I wonder how popular Oprah will be once this is all said and done! I hope folks wake up and realized just how much we all are being brainwashed by the media.
I was on the fence during this election but I am not now! After her speech from the convention, and the days that followed the entire office where I work is talking about her-the and change is in the air! And as I wrote before; “Hollywood, will hate her, the media will do everthing in their power to deface her, but the American people have already embraced her into their hearts!”
So no matter what happens the word is out!!!!

I went on to Oprah’s website where there was a blog regarding Oprah’s statement with regard to Palin and being on the show. I was shocked at how many had responded to the blog. Most were that they refused to watch her anymore, subscribe to her magazine, or purchase anything that had to do with Oprah.

What I am upset about is, for over a decade she has wanted women to have a voice. Now she wants to silence a voice in Sarah Palin. We need to hear a successful woman that has been propelled into the spotlight of American history. Oprah wants us to just do what she wants, vote Obama, get a black man in the White House. Sorry if that came off racist, but I was personally told by a family member that if I did not vote for Obama, I was a racist. That is where we are at in this election. Either we are going to be a racist or a sexist.

Oprah wants to influence us with her new age religion and her liberal politics and I for one will not be drawn in to this thinking anymore. I am my own person, and I look to Sarah Palin as someone that I admire for having 5 children and a wonderful husband probably is having the most wonderful time of her life. I wish her luck and if I was her and Oprah did decide to put her on her show, if I were Palin I would say “Thanks, but no thanks, you made your decision with Obama”.

Your denigrating discussion about Gov. Palin this AM was way off point. You and your guest acted as if she just discovered she had kids and didn’t know what to do with them. Five kids? not six? Her son is in the army. Her daughter is getting married. Yes she has a new baby that will be tough to raise, but if you eliminated from important jobs all WOMEN who were in tough situations then how many would be left. Dad’s there! He’s a real parent!

I am glad that Oprah is not going to have Sarah Palin on her show… she soon will be able to understand the pains that US Weekly is currently experiencing. This morning my wife had me reprogram all the Tivo’s in the house to no longer have Oprah on the season pass and then to place 3 thumbs down so that it will not record no matter what she may or may not be talking about.

Oprah decided to draw a line in the sand… now we have a chance to show her just how many people are on the other side of that line.

Just a quick note… if I were a scheduling manager, I would book her for Ellen ASAP.

I remember a couple of years ago when Oprah had Obama on her show. I remember thinking…”she’s setting him up to run for President of the United States.” She is so biased now that I can’t really trust a lot of what she says. Her credibility with me has definitley waned.
Oprah has shown poor judgement a few times in the past.
Oprah and Gayle are backing Obama so I do think it would be silly for Oprah to have on Sarah Palin. But at the same time, if Oprah could have her on without showing any bias and be the professional she claims to be that would be awesome! By not having Sarah Palin on the show Oprah is proving that she is just another Hollywood lib and that she is afraid that she may be helping Sarah Palin.
Oprah does show a bias toward her race and that’s fine, but she can’t have things both ways and expect everyone to be ok with it.

Comment by Melanie

Disgust is the only word I can use in regards to Oprah’s decision to “boycott” Sarah Palin during this election campaign process! Oprah has played the card of a free and fair player in the world of television. I think this has become a simple case of fear on her part. Oprah has a fear of making a solid real person take the opportunity to completely win the American public on her show. Having made her choice in Barrack Obama, this could put Oprah, a female African-American in the posiiton of choosing between her female perspective and her African-American perspective. Can we dare say that the issues be put on the forefront? Wow, wouldn’t that be unusual for mainstream media. I have watched Fox News daily since March of 2003 for the very reason Oprah has defined now, media bias. Little does she realize, she has made her statement and bias open and obvious by making this announcement! Shame on her! Any respect she has had from me is gone and I know many others as well!

Out of curiosity, and never having visited Oprah’s website or blog previously, I looked in on it this morning. It would seem that Oprah’s decision is not running well with members of the board (of which I am not and so can’t and don’t really wish to comment on it). One Obama supporter even questioned Oprah’s statement in this comment:

“You mean the subject hasn’t even come up? You mean that some of the staff don’t want her on? BTW When you campaign for a person you ARE using your show politically because The Oprah show is why you have the clout to campaign. That being said… OBama ‘08″

It would appear even her fans question her motives and the fact that she publicly displays her support and uses her clout for a particular candidate. It may not be a question of gender or race, but it is a question of politics. And as all personalities should know, it is the fans who make it possible for the star to have the clout.

Alisyn, I will support McCain/Palin ticket,
McCain picked the best candidate for this job,
Governor Palin, is a breath of fresh air, in touch with reality, down to earth,
a fantastic woman, beautiful, a true conservative, a talanted politician,
an Intelligent speaker with knowledge, commander of the national guard,
with executive experience,
more then the other side, Obama/Biden put together,
I cant wait till they come to Ohio,
I will go see them, and McCains speech was fantastic,
I will fight for you he said, stand up and fight with me, he said, stand up and fight with me, stand up and fight for whats right for the American people,
I loved it.

Sarah Palin is running for the second highest office in the land and she does not need to subject herself to Oprah. The news media will give Mrs. Palin more than enough coverage to get her message out.

Comment by Redd

Oprah has the right, in America, to say who she will or won’t have on her show. However, in America, I have the right to say who I will or won’t watch. And I will not watch Oprah! Oprah has opted to support a candidate as have several of Hollywood elite (how much will your taxes go up Oprah?) It is their choice, but my husband and I don’t go to movies or watch certain TV shows, not because an actor/actress have come out for or against someone, but for the total bias in their presentation. There is also so much hypocrisy. How dare David Letterman question whether or not Sarah Palin had a “sex talk” with her teenage daughter (and by the way hooray for Dr. Phil on setting him straight). Did Dave ever marry the mother of his illegitimate child? By the way, I don’t watch his show because of his bias (he’s no Johnny Carson)…saw the clip on Fox! I don’t buy our local newspaper because they are biased. I won’t buy a US Weekly (therefore I won’t see their advertisers), and I won’t watch shows on the obvious biased news shows. (And I used to). I am a big FOX FAN!!!! Thank you for bringing the truth!

All I can say is DUH! Oprah is as about as liberal as they come! And, get a clue, she is totally for OBama. Just another comment Alisyn, I cannot believe that you went on and on about Palin being a full time mom and working full time this morning!? That totally disappointed me. Maybe you should stay home with the twins because women are not capable?? As a full time Registered Nurse, a full time mom and a full time caregiver for my disabled husband, I am totally disappointed in you comments this morning. Just a side note, I choose to work. My husbands income is more than enough to provide for us. Sarah Palin is more than capable of following her dreams if she so chooses! One last comment who cares what Oprah thinks!

I think Opra is not having Sara on her show because she’s White. If Palin was a black women she’d be on her show. You can bet on that.

Comment by Julia

I understand why Oprah would not want to interview Sarah Palin at this time. The governor is much more than a hot chick. She is a sophisticated, honorable, intelligent, well spoken person that has already made an incredible positive impression on America. I am looking forward to the impact she will have on American government in the future.

I have no idea why this issue is “an issue.” Who cares what Oprah thinks? Sarah did not ASK to be on the show. Why has this risen to this level? I’m confused.

Since the Media keeps asking ” God Forbid ” if something happens to John McCaine ” Is Governor Palin ready ? I want to ask ” God forbid ” If something happens to both of them is the Speaker of the House ( Nancy Pelosi ) been “properly vetted ” and ready to be President ? I wonder how far we should go down the line with this vetting process ?

If Oprah doesn’t want to have Sarah on the show, why doesn’t she have Sarah’s husband. When was the last time Michelle Obama was on Oprah?

Finally everyone is seeing Oprah for what she is. She is racist, and has ALWAYS been racist. No *champion of women* -jsut a champion of blacks

Comment by Jeff Carlin

Alisyn – You and the guys are absolutely correct that having ALL the candidates appear on Oprah would be a tremendous gift to the voting public, except for one thing. Oprah is not a neutral playing field. As a result, could her interviews avoid the taint of partisanship? I think not. And, because she understands that, is why she’s the smartest woman in America.

Comment by Lisa

You know if viewers of Oprah turn off their sets at that hour I bet she’d get the message :)

Alisyn, you look great in the up-do! But you always do! I’m glad Sarah is not going to be on Oprah because then I would have to watch and I can’t stand Oprah. My wife and I love the show.

Comment by Sue Kariker

Oprah, get over yourself. Sarah Palin DOESN”T NEED YOU!

Comment by Melanie Haley

Everyone knows that Oprah is a racist. Her real priority is not about women, equal rights or anything else it is simply all about being black. She is prejudice, and most people who are honest and not “politically correct” agree with this statement. Furthermore, celebraties should stick to their trained dog shows and leave politics to the people.

Sarah Palin in the modern day equivalent of Ginger Rodgers…she can do everything that Barak Obama can do but backwards and in high heels.

I guess that conservative women are not women according to NOW or the liberal press. We’ll just have to rewrite all the biology textbooks and create a new category.

Comment by Tracey

I would be disappointed if Gov. Palin went on Oprah. I don’t watch Oprah, haven’t for years. I thought Oprah and the feminists were for strong, successful women. I guess it’s just strong, successful LIBERAL women. What hypocrites.

Maybe Martha Stewart should have Sarah Palin on making Moose Stew.

Comment by Norm

Gov Palin is a CANDIDATE. Aren’t there FCC regulations requiring equal time for candidates? Maybe Oprah doesn’t want to inflict Joe Biden on her viewers as a contrast to Palin.

Comment by Natalie

I think that Oprah’s comment was a “diss” to Sarah. She indicates by her statement that she “will talk to her after the election”, that the McCain ticket will not win. After the election, Sarah will be too busy to be on Oprah’s show….she will be Vice President Sarah!

Comment by Cindy M

I hope Oprah caves and Sarah’s response is, “I’m a little busy right now, raising a family, running a state, and trying to get this guy elected President of the United States. Check back with me after the election, and I will TRY to fit you in.”

Comment by Mary Haynie

It’s blaitantly obvious that since Opra campaigned for Obama, she doesn’t want to do anything that would give any advantage to “the other” candidate. Opra is a hyppocrite and should take a lesson from Fox News and be “Fair and Balanced.”

Comment by Charles Blakemore

Alisyn gives “hot” its definition. Okay, okay, I know, I know. I’m a kiss-up. But, seriously, folks, make no mistake about it, Fox News has the most beautiful women anywhere in the news business. No, I’m not trying to win any kind of wearable from the show. But, for the record, my birthday is the 28th of this month and I wear a large for shirts and jackets. *winks*

Comment by Michele Trapnell

Sarah Palin should not be on Oprah’s show because it would indicate that Sarah thinks she needs Oprah’s approval power–which she does not. Also, Sarah’s core values are so opposite of Oprah’s that it would be impossible for Oprah to win any points against her (which is probably the real reason that Oprah doesn’t want her). Finally, an appearance on Oprah’s show would imply that Sarah is becoming a “celebrity” in the worst sense, but she is much more appealing to her voter base and women in general as the “common woman” success story that she already is. I think Sarah Palin is above all the hype and should remain true to herself and her admirers.

Comment by Cathy Cryan

To me Oprah has already made her choice of candidates by having Obama on her show and going to the DNC..not having Sarah on her show says to me there maybe a little jealousy on Oprah’s part and those that criticize her, they claim women should have more say in this country and we can do anything, then when someone like Sarah shows up and CAN do the job, they all back down and start to back track. Everyone talks about change, well to me this is the GREATEST change for Americans as a whole. Sarah has proven that we Moms can have it all if that is what we want. I just dont get what the problem is, Sarah has shown she is just like all of us, we all have dreams and its up to us to decide to go for them or not. I for one will gladly welcome Sarah as the Change we all need!!!

Comment by Lyn

Funny that Oprah didn’t have the same reservations when she had other presidential candidates on her show in previous elections. It’s only the election that she has chosen to coronate a candidate that suddenly she can’t involve her show. Well, isn’t that interesting. I don’t think Sarah Palin is going to need Oprah’s show to reach anyone. She has done fine so far without her!!!

Comment by Colleen

Good morning, Alisyn.

How is it that people were allowed to donate $31,000 each for an Obama fundraiser at Jon Bon Jovi’s home when U.S. campaign laws only allow contributions of $2,300 each to presidential candidates?

Best regards,
Colleen

Comment by Paige

Oprah wants us to follow her and her pick for the new President which will be Obama. She doesn’t want women to have a voice any longer, which is something that she has advocated for many years. I say, Sarah Palin does NOT need to go on Oprah, she is getting plenty of coverage as is. This is better than Oprah.

Who needs Oprah anymore?

Comment by Jennifer

I am not surprised that Oprah doesn’t want Palin on her show – it would be disingenuous since she has been so public in her support of Obama – of course, I’m old enough to remember Oprah earning her reputation and fame as independent and courageous when she did take on really controversial issues. Nevertheless – I prefer that Palin NOT go on Oprah. Please let’s all resist the cultural urge to marginalize Sarah by making her into a “media darling”. I don’t want us to focus on her look, her hair, her clothes…let’s focus on her message and her strength. Do we really want to create another superstar, celebrity candidate?

Comment by Paul Kreuzer

Lets be honest, If Obama was a Caucasian man and Palin was an African American woman I do not think we would see Oprah act in the same manner that she is. I think she is eager to see an African American person in office more so than a woman. I also believe that if Obama was not on the dem. ticket and it was a Caucasian man, Sarah Palin would have been Oprah’s premier show. I love Oprah, but I do not understand why she has chosen to lose viewers by backing a candidate. I have not watched Oprah since she announced that she backed Obama. I am Caucasian, but no, I am not raciest, I am just giving an opinion.

Comment by Nancy S.

As a working woman, I don’t watch Oprah; however, Oprah knows how powerful and influential she is–otherwise she would not have endorsed Obama. I think she may have consulted with the Obama campaign and they advised her not to have Governor Palin as a guest. Why else would she forego having a guest that would send her ratings through the roof? I agree with others that if Governor Palin were a plain looking, unarticulate boring woman she would be invited to be a guest on Oprah in a heartbeat. Even Oprah is not above playing politics to help her candidate, and this proves it.

Comment by Denise

Geez, isn’t anyone as tired of Oprah as I am. She is over-rated! I find her to be phony and unintelligent. I don’t need Oprah to enlighten me on any issue. She is given way too much power and that is based on her wealth, nothing else. Most people can think and make decisions w/o her help. And quite frankly, why do all those grown women who attend her show carry on and scream like they’re 20 at a Bon Jovi concert!!!

I am as fair as fair can be and a huge Oprah fan. However; I will voting for McCain/Palin in November for issues similar to that regarding Sarah Palin not being able to appear on her show. The world knows that Oprah is popular and very strong in the tv/media markets but it is shameful that she will not allow Mrs. Palin on her show. I like Sen. Obama very much but Oprah’s attitude in this scenario is not fair or what we viewers expect of her.

Comment by Beth Garner

I have been a fan of Oprah for many years and have always watched her show for interviews with all kinds of people who are in the news and I am terribly disappointed that Oprah is not interviewing Sarah Palin. To be the fair minded person she pretends to be she should interview all the candidates, but her bias is showing, big time!! Last night I cancelled my long standing subscription to her magazine.

Comment by Mary Beth Carrier

Wow! Oprah has seemed to taken on a bit of a ‘holier than thou’ attitude on this one!

I do see how the entertainment value in such an interview and/or debate could be historical in its effect of women. I say this because I truly see Gov. Palin as a woman perfectly capable of enthusiastically yet eloquently telling Ms. Winfrey that there is an entire population of American women who strongly believe in Republican values and won’t allow their beliefs to be talked down to by even the ‘Queen of Talk.’

If you want to see Palin on TV have her on your show.

I really don’t want to see her on Oprah spouting her double standards regarding her daughter a pregnant 17 year old teenager. This is an tragedy thank goodness she isn’t black and a child of a Democrat, just think of the Republicans spouting off about Family values

Instead of being n Oprah, she needs to home taking care of the dysfunctional family of hers, can’t wait to see what else will be uncovered about her……

Comment by B Wood

I am so excited by Gov Palin’s decision to honor us with her service to our nation at a time when more strong-willed, talented, intelligent women are so desparately needed in leadership.

As for Oprah, SSDD…. Same Stuff, Different Day !

As I understand it (I do not watch), her show has become a showcase for her own far left wing agenda and only features those guests and subjects that further that agenda.

As she certainly will never be hurt by her fans using the remote (the woman cannot possibly LIVE long enough to spend what she has now !), the best we can do is recognize her for what she is… A biased, racist, left wing radical who uses her influence to further her own view of what this nation should be.

One reason O has become so popular over the years really has little or nothing to with her, but with the fact that many women were looking for a woman of influence to admire and respect and the choices were few. Now we have one who is earning that respect and is doing so quickly. Soon “S” will be so much more influential than “O”, and that clearly scares the you-know-what out of “O”…..

Thanks for your time.

I have a son in college, (who had Sarah Palin on his list of best candidates for V.P. 4 months ago), who has been encouraging me for over a year not to watch the Oprah show for various reasons. Long ago I realized that I choose much better works of literature and “good reads” for myself than she ever could. This; however, makes the choice to never tune in again quite easy. Oprah really is out of touch with the great portion of her viewing public that see themselves in Sarah Palin!

Comment by Kathi

Alisyn, It’s Oprah’s show and if she chooses to not have on a particular person, that’s her decision! The news media shouldn’t be making such a huge deal out of it! If I was supporting a certain candidate, I sure wouldn’t want to give the other party any extra exposure.

This Anthony case just blows my mind! I think Caylee drowned in their pool, by accident and Casey totallied freaked out. I also think that Casey has gotten away with her lies for her entire life! I can understand sticking up for your kids, but Cindy & George seem a bit strange in this entire case!

Comment by Janet Golay

I have lost all respect for Oprah over this situation. Has Oprah never had any one on her show that she’s disagreed with their politics or beliefs? Oprah is certainly entitled to support Obama but there are many of us women out here who do not support him. We’ve helped make her program a success and we can and will withdraw our support.

Comment by Becky from Ohio

I am not surprised that Oprah will not agree to interview “Barricuda Palin”. Sarah no doubt could chew her up and spit her out. Oprah is very biased towards Obama and will not do anything to jeopardize his chances of becoming president. I gave up watching Oprah years ago, her rhetoric tries my patience. It is obvious she is not the feminist she proclaims to be, unless it suites her purpose.

Comment by Gerry

Hi Alisyn

I am not at all surprised by Oprah’s decision not to have Gov. Palin on her show. Oprah is so racist that I quit watching her show a long time ago. After she announced her support for Obama she lost a good percentage of her viewing audience and also her magazine subscribers. I believe this decision might also cost her too. Gov. Palin does not need Oprah, but Obama sure did.

Comment by Paula

Sick of Sarah Palin. Media gone overboard to popularize her and try to make the media not look like they have been hard on her.

She shouldn’t be on Oprah. Thank you Oprah for being honest. Oprah would bring up topics that people don’t want to hear like Palin left her city in debt after being mayor. The state of Alaska has dropped from 44 to 46 in education. Etc….

Then everyone would say Oprah is hard on her. Be real. It’s a no win situation.

I’m feeled with sorrow I thought we were better Americans. We know the truth, we know issues, we know justice but with an obvious bias with the media spouting non truths.

Comment by Dan Snyder

Alyson,
You are right that Sarah Palin is “everything” Oprah has championed over the years.
I do not beleive she said ‘NO” to Palin to keep her show non political. She is using her notoriaty earned from her show to promote and fund raise for Barak. I do not believe she said “NO” to Palin because she is not a Democrat either.
I believe Oprah has never had a strong successful woman on her show who is principalled, has morales, charachter and judgement, who will, and did, stand up to the establishment and successfully defeat them on several fronts.
Oprah is SCARED of Sarah. Oprah knows Sarah is as strong or stronger a woman than she is. And Oprah knows she is no match for a strong woman with principals, morales and charachter. I believe this is the real reason Oprah said “NO” to Sarah.

Are you kidding? Does ANYONE at Fox News & Friends know what a feminist is? A feminist does not vote for a woman because she is a woman. A feminist votes based on intelligence not gender. The feminist cause is to have equal access, equal compensation and respect for the choices a woman has to make. WHAT AN INSULT by your crew this morning that Sarah Palin (because she is a woman) should be on Oprah. Sarah Palin is not necessarily an inspiration to women. It is the fact that a woman has become a Republican VP Nominee that MAY be an inspiration – to Republican women. Sarah Palin herself is not an inspiration. Sure she has five children (per Steve of your show – that makes her a great choice for VP. – btw Steve – my mon had 9 children – she’d be a better choice -don’t you think?) Good for Oprah for managing her show her way. Talk about media bias – i cannot get over the hypocrisy at Fox News regarding other news outlets when Fox News is clearly catering to the Republicans. Thank goodness for Sarah Palin and the rest of the Republican pandering – what else would you guys talk about?

Comment by Linda

Alisyn,

I think Sarah Palin was an awsome pick, don’t underestimate the working and stay at home
housewifes/Mom’s of the world. They are the glue of the family and “GET IT”. I think I can speak from experience, mother of 6 kids. (1 College Graduate and 5 presently in College)

Oprah should re-evaluate her decision and put her on her show. The women across America have been supporting her show for years!! But on the other hand, I don’t think Sarah Palin needs
Oprah – the McCain/Palin ticket can win without her show.

I’m so PROUD to have a women on the Republican ticket – the sky’s the limit!! GO SARAH!!!!

Comment by Greg (North GA.)

Oprah has over the last year or so went off the deep end on a lot of things including, but not limited to, her conversion to the Hinduism religion, her using her platform to promote her religious views as well as promote the liberal agenda and Barrack Obama. She probably doesn’t care because she has more money than she would ever be able to spend but I predict her show will continue to lose viewers that she has had for a long time. I have a personal friend that absolutely loved her before and now will not watch her show. If this is a trend in the country then I would say her dynasty is pretty much over.

Comment by Ken Leib

Isn’t it obvious that Harpo’s response that she wasn’t giving a forum to any candidate is just a ruse? She had both Hillary and Barak on a year or so earlier and drooled all over them when each looked like the probable Democrat Presidential candidate. If Harpo interviewed Gov. Palin on her show she would be giving Palin great access to her largely female audience and the potential ability to change their minds and hearts.

Good morning Allsyn, great show. I can count on two fingers how many times I have watched the “O” show and they make a ZERO. I do not have the time or the will power to watch trash like that.

Did it ever occur to anyone that just maybe Sarah Palin doesn’t really want to be on Oprah? Why should she lower her standards to sit across from a woman who doesn’t support other women and who can’t identify with the “middle-class hockey mom”. I haven’t watched her program for years because I think she’s an idiot who shares the same ego as a certain presidential candidate, i.e., I am here to save you. Sarah, don’t lower your standards!!

Comment by Kathy Torkar

Oprah has made her decision, and I respect it. What I don’t respect is the reaction of those in the entertainment industry and Hollywood “know-it-alls” who are quick to put down her capabilities as a VP, since she has 5 children. Aren’t these the same brains that gave us Geena Davis as the first woman/mother VP who becomes president? Wasn’t that series supposed to set us up to receive Hillary’s election in 2008? Sadly, VP Palin will have a much easier time raising her 5 children, given a resident husband, the staff and personnel available to the office, than most working moms who are doing it all.

AC,

Not surprised that Oprah has decided not to have Sara on her show. The more America sees of Sara the more they may love her, and swing votes away from Obama. As Govenor Sara Palin has taken hard stands against big oil companies, has stopped the bridge to nowhere that would wasted tax dollars, and has also got a gas pipeline project that will bring prosperity to her State. Could’nt Washington use someone like her? Thats Change!
Oprah has injected herself into the political landscape. Her show has always been grass roots, but now her person her brand is now in the political arena.

Oprah has made her fortune with women followers. With her endorsement, she expects the sheep to fall in line. So, having Palin on would disrupt that flow. I encourage women who have followed her in the past to think for themselves.
Her shows lately have been less helpful as it is and have become endorcements of one kind or the other.
Glad to say that I’ve found better things to do with my time.

Comment by Ginger Ferrer

You must really think that because you decide to express your slanted comment regarding an alleged fear that Oprah may be threatened by Sarah Palin is ludicrous beyond measure.

She has the right to have whomever she wants on her program. She makes the decisions, not unlike the ones made for you by your media controllers.

Sarah Palin being a female candidate carry’s no weight for me. It should not matter if it is a he or a she running for office. It should not matter what party they align themselves with and too. It should be strictly about integrity, honor, justice and respect for the Constitutional rights of All of the people, All of the time. Until you in the media understand this and your media moguls who have very personal stakes in what they allow to be aired, this country will continue to be held hostage be misinformation, personal offensive opinions and inflammatory rhetoric that hits below the belt every time.

Sarah Palin may be all you believe she is. Also she may not. She does not walk on water and all of the facts are not in as to the irregularities going on in her state of Alaska. As Governor she should have a better handle on the misdeeds going on within her pervue.

So while you may be entitled to your opinion, if it is solely your opinion and not that of your media bosses, so be it. But I am not convinced Sarah Palin is the right person for the job, should John McCain become incapcitated should he win the election. She has no more experience as a politician at age 44 then the others of her age who are in office. Annie Oakley with a gun in the White House. Shooting defenseless creatures in Alaska. Gee, is that a qualification for running for the second highest office in our country? Hum!

Alisyn, Dave and Clayton -

I am glad Oprah has no intention of bringing any of the candidates and their running mates on her show. Her opinion is powerful, she knows that, and I think is acting professionally responsible because it would be extremely difficult for her to not show favoritism, and I appreciate her acceptance of that reality. She doesn’t have to be explicit about it, as some of you would like. In fact, I appreciate her not taking the opportunity to remind the public who she favors.

Post-election, Oprah has great interest in having Gov. Palin on her show, and that seems to me to be the best timing. We, the public, will have plenty of opportunity to get to know Gov. Palin through the typical electoral processes and media coverage.

Have a great day!
Marissa

Comment by Shirley

If I were Sarah Palin, and Oprah contacted me now after saying she didn’t want me on the show, I’d tell her no. Oprah would only put her on because of the public pressure and she would more likely beat her up with personal questions that are nobodys business, unlike questions that she would never ask Oboma. I use to admire Opra, but from now on when ever she comes on the T.V., I’ll turn her off. A champion for women my ass. Now we see who Opra really is.

Comment by Marissa

Oprah’s show is not about promoting one political agenda over another. To bring Gov. Sarah Palin on before the election, or any of the 4 running mates for that matter, is simply too political in nature. One would be drawn into talking about political issues rather than learning more about the individual.

Oprah’s show is more comfortable when it is educating others, predominantly women, about different lifestyles through access to real people and discussions about options and choices. My suggestion to Oprah’s producers is to consider the possibility of a panel of all 4 spouses to the Pres and VP candidates. That would be interesting, educational and in close alignment with her mission.

Comment by Ann-Maire Horcher

I work – and it is not optional. My children are very adequately cared for by a parent – their father.

Oprah can say what she wants about her reasons – but no one is fooled. If she could make Sarah Palin look bad, Sarah Palin would already be booked. But that won’t happen – Sarah Palin is so articulate and honest that even Oprah might be convinced.

I was actually watching Oprah before O’Bama announced he was a candidate. . . . He and his wife were on and I was very impressed with both him and his wife. My comment is about her saying that she did not want to use her show for a political platform. I specifically remember her asking O’Bama if he would run for president, he said he had not made a decision. She also asked him to promise to come back if he did decide to run and make the announcement on her show. If she doesn’t want to use her show for a political platform, why would she ask him to announce his intentions to run for president on her show?

Just wondering in Oklahoma???

Comment by Maria Catalano

Oprah made a huge mistake when she endorsed OBAMA publically. As one of her fans, I have not watched her show since that public announcement. If she wanted to inject millions of dollars into his campain, she could have done it all behind the scenes.

She had him on her show twice before he entered the race, but being on her show was Oprah’s way of introducing him to us. Feeling the women voters out. Her show attracts women voters, that is women that actually vote.

I respect Oprah and all the good she has done with her Angel Network. However, I strongly feel that Obama is another project for her. She has power, and I feel that with OBAMA she is exercising her power by seeing if she can put the “black” man of her choice into the White House.

Wihout Oprah, Obama would not have had the “celebrity” status he is so blinded by.

What will Oprah do when he loses in November?

Sarah Palin’s charisma, is too much of a threat to Oprah and Obama alike.

Just my 2 cents.

Comment by tammy c

Has nobody noticed that Oprah did not have Hillary on her show? I know that she supports Obama but when he was on he was not a candidate- and no we regular folk don’t always have your insight that he would become one.

I find Sarah Palin interesting- she actually offers life and hope for the future to the republican ticket- but she is not the first woman to be chosen as a VP candidate. That honor is held by Geraldine Farraro. Although, if we want to say that history is being made in that the Republicans have finally realized that a female can handle the job, then, yes Sarah should be idolized.

Maybe Sarah just needs to speak to the media to share her story- her choice of interviewer.

Comment by Janine

Why does Oprah insult our intelligence? She should just be truthful and admit she is for Obama and that she is prejudice. If this was a white talk show host, it would be all over the news about how racist they are.

Comment by Jill

Hi!

I think Palin was a brilliant choice for McCain (actually my hubby picked her back in April!) ….anyway, what I’m getting at is — I think the democrats, including Oprah, KNOW she’s a brilliant choice (will never admit it publicy) and will come up with every excuse known to man why she shouldn’t be on Oprah!

Love you guys!!

Comment by Linda Oliver

Will Oprah’s TV show and magazine be dissed? Like US was for their treatment of Gov Palin!!!

Comment by Jeannie

Oprah is showing her “true colors” by refusing to have Sarah Palin on her show. Isn’t it interesting that the first and only time she endorsed a candidate, he happens to be black – quite a coincidence
isn’t it?

She is so in love with Barack who also comes from the Chicago area, and they both attended Reverend Wright’s church where they both were exposed to the “black agenda” plan. She is part of the left-wing, liberal media.

This is all going to backfire on them – Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air. She makes me proud to be a woman. The Democrats are running scared! When Sarah debates the nasty Joe Biden, she will “knock his socks” off.

Comment by Charles Blakemore

About the comment concerning Obama and he being an African-American. No one has contested this in the media so far. He is, in fact, a biracial person. His mother was Caucasian and his father, being from Kenya, was an African. That would make him half Black and half White. I am amazed that he, being raised by his White mother and White grandmother for the majority of his life chooses to deny that part of his heritage. It seems to me he plays the race card by omission. Sometimes what a person doesn’t say is just as, if not, more important than what they do say. Further, I am also surprised at how the media hasn’t called him out on this. Frankly, if I were his mother, I would be appalled and ashamed of him for not owing up to both sides of his genetics. I am half Lebanese and half English. I would never go into denial just because Middle Eastern people aren’t the most popular people on the planet at the moment. Enough said…for now.

Oh by the way Alisyn, as good as Sarah Palin looks in those glasses, It is nothing compared to you, glasses or not!

Sarah Palin, is the type of woman that Oprah’s show caters to. That being said, the Political Left has brought up the Fairness Act quite a bit lately. I can listen to Talk Radio and hear many a Left Point of View on Hannity. I can not get a Right Point of View on Oprah, or The Main Stream Media. I must say and have to admit that the Fox News Network is “Fair & Balanced”. Thank you for being there.

I’m chiming in late but Oprah is afraid what’ll happen if Sarah was a guest. First off she’d out smart her and we know she’s just going to steal the women votes!
Nevermind gong to Bon Jovis Alisyn, I’d love to have you here or take you out to dinner there!!!
Sorry to say but locals in Florida need to watch there local news, they know where emergency shelters are set up and stuff, tell that to the guys………..

I enjoy the show, especially you Alisyn, here my heart”pitter-patter” :)

I work – and it is not optional. My children are cared for very well by a parent – their father.

Oprah can say whatever she wants about her reasons – but no one is fooled. If Sarah Palin would make a bad impression, she would already be booked. But Sarah Palin would make an amazing positive impression on the viewers – maybe even Oprah would be convinced.

Comment by Ann

Over twenty years ago I became a regular viewer and fan of Oprah’s while I was a stay-at-home mother. I felt she opened up topics that I knew nothing about.

However, over the years as I returned to college to finish my degree and returned to the workforce, I have not been able to watch as much as I once did. The few times I have been able to watch over the past few years, I have been struck by how self-serving and biased the shows I’ve watched are. I do believe she is can still be very informative and helpful, but I do question her ability to conduct unbiased interviews.

That being said, Oprah has only two clear options, either interview both presidential and/or vice-presidential candidates or forego interviewing either side.

Personally, if I were McCain or Palin, I do not know that I would want to appear on her show because of her very public backing of Obama. But because of their public positions, if Oprah were to make the offer, they should be able to stand up to her interview.

Comment by Debby Raley

I am sure Ellen Degeneres would be happy to have Governor Palin on her show. Michelle Obama is scheduled to appear Monday. Let’s be fair and balanced!!

Comment by Ginger Ferrer

This is a second effort at leaving a comment. I am not sure what happened to the first one I did.

With regard to Oprah deciding not to interview Sarah Palin. This is her right. She runs her own program. Unlike you whose material is supplied by your media controllers on teleprompters and prewritten dialogue.

Sarah Palin does not walk on water. The fact she is female holds no weight with me. History is full of women who have acted as heiniously as men. Some even more chavenistic then most men. So please, this Glass ceiling b.s. has been done to death. Much to the detriment of the original reasons these issues came into being.

We the people do not know all that is required to be known of Sarah Palin. She is being hawked as Mom, apple pie and Annie Oakley which has nothing to do with running a country of at least 300 million people. People that the Bush/Cheney administration has abandoned overall. Should Mr. McCain not survive his presidency while in office if he wins the election, Sarah Palin has no more experience then any other official of her age and or gender.

Being a woman just does not cut it for me. Will she act with integrity, honor, justice and respect for the Constitutional rights of All of the people, All of the time should be the concern. Not whether she loves her family and her country. That should be a natural given. So please, stop this sickening slanted viewpoint regarding your perceptions that Oprah is afraid of Sarah Palin’s alleged popularity.

How pathetic is that thought process? More high school level mentality, then that of a fair mindset.

It seems my entry did not post earlier…

Wow! Oprah has really shown us that she has an attitude that is a bit ‘Holier than thou’ on this one!

I believe we may all find an Oprah episode featuring Governor Palin as one of the most entertaining hours in day time talk ever!
If any American woman were to use her gift of grace under fire, along with enthusiasm and eloquence in a battle against Ms. Winfrey, surely Gov. Palin would be my choice! Maybe Oprah doesn’t understand that we don’t really care who she chooses as her guests but many of us do care that we make the right choice for our Nation’s leaders!

Ms. Winfrey may not understand that many of us American women can form our own thoughts and that we follow the morals our parents instilled in us. We are educated thinkers and we do not need even ‘the queen of talk’ to tell us what to do.

The bottom line is that Oprah Winfrey is simply no match for Governor Palin! Ms. Winfrey certainly must be aware that she would come out of the interview looking like the overtly democratic and unfair woman she is. I might suggest she stick to using her money and power to helping South African girls instead of attempting to tell adult American women what to think.

I think Sarah Palin also banned “O” magazine from the library, just like the first 2 Harry Potter books were banned by Sarah BEFORE THEY WERE PUBLISHED.

These nuts on the far left never fact check!!!

I have watched the coverage of Sarah Palin’s speech everyday on Fox. I am amazed that no comments have been made about Sarah Palin’s statement about being a friend and advocate for special needs families. I do not have this challenge in my own life, although I am an educator and aware of the struggles these families endure. This is a tremendous asset for these families, as well, as an opportunity for Oprah to draw attention to these families.

OPRAH IS ON THE WAY OUT. SHE DECLARED THAT SHE IS GOD OF ALL AND MOST OF AMERICA IS THREW WITH HER. IT IS SO TYPICAL THAT SHE WILL NOT ALLOW SARAH ON HER STAGE BECAUSE SHE KNOWS HOW WELL SARAH WILL DO AND THAT THREATENS HER PRECIOUS OBAMA.

Comment by Margaret Ann Minchew

Oprah is showing that her own agenda comes first–say and do whatever it takes to make money. Standing up for “women’s rights ( all races) looks bogus in light of her deciding not to have Sarah Palin on her show. “Women’s rights” is just another one of Oprah’s money-making schemes/themes.

I have never been very interested in politics, but Sarah Palin has added such a freshness to this election for me. I have NEVER thought about getting involved in volunteering, now with Palin on the ticket, it has crossed my mind.

Comment by Dave Warfield

Oprah’s pretty much in the tank for Obama, so I’m not surprised that she won’t have Sarah on her show. Oprah’s ego is about to kill her show and her magazine.

Has anybody heard if Ellen, Jay, or Dave have invited him to be on their shows?

I think that she’s afraid that if Sarah gets on the show she’ll destroy the caricature of Sarah Palin that the libs are trying to create. If you have time, take a look at the Youtube videos below. They show that Sarah is no shrinking violet, and that she’s a very independent woman.

Just emailed Oprah on her website –

From your website – “I believe that one of life’s greatest risks is never daring to risk. – Oprah.”

Oprah, you missed a chance to show how you live by your own advice by not having Palin on your show before the election. You should reconsider quickly and show the world that you are truly racially and politically unbiased and only interested in advancing women’s causes.

One thing I noticed between the two Conventions was the rally cry’s.

It seems to me that the most often cry at the Democrats Convention was O-Ba-Ma.

On the other hand at the Republican Convention USA was the most often heard cry.

Now I only watched in bits and pieces but I pretty sure it was enough to get a real feel for the whole show.

Did anyone else notice this?

Lower Terrebonne and Lafourch parishes may be without power for a month. Why doesn’t the national media care about us. From what we hear because we can’t watch the national media is not even talking about recovery way down south. Local media is worry a/b new orleans and they are getting power back. This is just another bitter attempt to marginalize a strong, intelligent, conservative woman with values and principles. Palin doesn’t conform to the left’s view of what a woman should be. She’s pro-life, pro-second amendment, anti-big government…looks good in a dress — obviously not a real woman.

Just as Justice Thomas was electronically lynched, Gov. Palin is being electronically raped for having views that don’t coincide with the left’s view of the world.

Palin is a strong woman with a great personality and wit. She doesn’t need Oprah to deliver her message.

I can’t believe anyone would feel this topic is news worthy and put so much time into it. I’ve never watched Fox and Friends on the weekend and I am so disappointed. More time has been spent on Palin and even her glasses. I don’t know about you, but spending $300-$700 on a pair of glasses does not sound like a person who is in touch with me……fair and balanced must not apply to Saturday mornings….especially the guy who sits on the left.

Comment by Bill

As a talk show host, it may be better to stay out of politcal endorsements. Present both sides equally and fairly and having issues like this would not arise. It will be interesting how her viewrs will react to this? By the way Alisyn, your wearing the glasses and ‘do’ this morning, was a great look for you!

Comment by Sherita

No I don’t think Palin should be on Oprah! Ophrah cannot be fair and unbiased no more than you guys are. As an independent it is extremely hard to get a fair, unbiased opinion on the cable news channels. Fox News gushes over Palin and bashes Obama every chance you get. While MSNBC is the opposite, they gush over Obama and bash Palin. You each have the audacity to comment on how the other unfairly reports the news when you both do the exact same thing in your coverage of them……its favorable for the candidate you like and it’s negative towards the candidate you don’t like but neither news channel will ever own up to that FACT.

Anyone remember Geraldine Ferraro? She was just a three term congressman (no experience beyond that) compared to Sarah who is a governor–much more responsibility and experience than a congressman or a senator, including Bloviating Joe. I remember the election when Ferraro ran and I didn’t hear the feminists crying about lack of experience then–they were cheering the fact that a woman was on the ticket. Liberals are masters of doublespeak.

Comment by Liz K

I will try to get this in quickly. I went to the archives of the Wasilla, AK newspaper. By going back several years, I found the article about Sarah Palin and the supposed request to ban books. You can read it for yourselves. Basically, it said she never requested any books be banned. When she became mayor, she asked the librarian how she would deal with requests to take certain books out of the library. They discussed it on apparently two or three occasions, but no request to do so was ever made.

There are also interesting articles regarding the state trooper.

When reading any of these articles, be sure to note that some of them are opinion pieces; others are news articles.

To Claire at the 9:46 a.m. post. Your are right, since the Democrats took over in Nov. of 2006, our country has gone downhill with the rise in unemployment, foreclosures, etc. It started with: raising the minumim wage. Now everything costs more, small businesses have been forced to pay more to their employees and it is a trickle down effect. We have seen it for almost 2 years now. It is not Bush’s fault as the left wing liberals want us to believe.

So let Oprah back Obama and you will see this country in a depression like we have not seen since 1929.

Comment by Keith

Hi Alisyn,

This is no more than the typical arrogant, two faced, liberal Opera. She sure doesn’t want Sarah Palin upstaging her, and showing she has more smarts in many areas than does Obama. Plus this would show alot more women, who still watch her, just what the RNC has on their side. Not just a do good talker, but a tough talker who will do. I lost any respect for Opera after her foney car give away a few years ago, when she wante people to believe she gave those cars away, when actually Chevy gave those cars to promote a new line. That too blew up in her arrogant face.

GO SARAH…GO

Comment by chas

Ms. Claire,

This is no surprise that unemployment went up. Every time Liberals talk about raising the min wage we say that it will cost people their jobs and it does.

It never stops them from doing it again later. Problem is most Dems haven’t figured it out yet.

I Applaud OPRAH! .. Her Show is not a platform for this election..and after reading some of your blogs…
I am so disappointed in us .. Americans .. trying to make this race racial..let’s
vote on the issues! OBAMA went to WASHINGTON DC and immediately saw the need
for CHANGE!! ..Unlike Mccain, who with his 26 years of experience has voted 90% of the time with BUSH.
Well horah for the Maverick Sen John McCain who is a Magician that pulled a gun tote’n, moose eating, small town Veronica Rabbit out of his hat, Gov Palin!.. It’s an illusion, a slight of hand to make us lose sight of the real problems we have in this country.. the jobless numbers are soaring, the cost of food and gas are at an 8 year high and we are in a mortgage crisis to name a few issues facing us
within our boarders… In addition we are in a war that surge or not we should have never
entered! …. thankyou Senator McCain but NO THANKYOU! ..Gov Palin or not you do not have my vote!
Having lost my job a year ago due to my former company’s mandate to outsource 80% of it’s workforce overseas and at risk of losing my home to foreclosure .. I can’t afford 4 more years
OF THE SAME .. so .. as in the words of my hero HILLARY CLINTON “NO Way, NO HOW, NO MCCAIN!”

Take your news crews to the next local job fair and you will be amazed at the number of people out of work!

Oh and FOX NEWS try to be a little less biased! You’ve make it very clear you’re Rebublican

I do not think Sarah Palin reflects the views of most women. She reflects the views of most men. She is much too aggressive and politically ambitious. Her views on gun control and abortion, lack of experience needed for the highest political office, no foreign affairs experience, etc is very worrisome if she makes it to Washington.

What I do not understand is why she agreed to run for VP rather than caring for her very young, handicapped child. It seems odd to me that she gave birth to this helpless baby and months later she is running around the country campaigning rather than devoting more time to him during his first year. I do not mean to be judging another mother, but she does have quite a bit going on in her home life, and frankly, I would admire her more if she took care of her primary responsibilities as a wife, mother and grandmother. The country can wait a few years until she gets her personal life sorted out and she gains more experience.

However, I really thought Sarah Palin’s speech was excellent. Perhaps her talents would best be used presenting a conservative and biased talk show…she could be a good replacement for O’Reilly when he is on vacation!

Comment by Teri

Let’s be realistic…..television has made Oprah so rich (net worth 2.5 Billion but only 165/400 richest Americans according to Forbes) she doesn’t need viewers or readers which is one reason why she can thumb her nose at Sarah. Oprah’s laughing all the way to the bank and doing it to all conservative women that watched, sat in her audience, and made her rich.

……She’s got the POWER!

Comment by Bob

Bill Clinton had no foreign policy experience as a candidate and democrats seemed to be fine with it. I think Gov. Palin will get up to speed on world affairs quickly. Sen. Obama picked Sen. Biden to help him with his lack of experience. If for some reason Gov. Palin had to step in as president right away why couldn’t she then select a vp who has foreign policy experience? Problem solved.

This is just another case of the liberal media pandering to the left-wing Democratic ticket. Of course Oprah won’t have Palin on. She probably can’t handle an assertive straight talking woman. By the way, what’s with the Bill M. show on HBO last night. If that wasn’t defamation of character, what is? And, they should layoff the kids!

Alisyn,
Could you have been more insulting and childish in your treatment of Sarah Palin at the close of today’s show (9-6-09). Making fun of her hair and glasses is something high school girls would do. You are nasty, mean and not at all funny. If you aren’t object stay home. Do you teach your kids to treat people this way?

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

You must be joking Annie. We made the point that the country is so enamoured of Palin’s look that the Kawousaki glasses are flying off store shelves and there were none left in all of NYC. We had to get them from the distributor. I’d call that a compliment.

Hi Marie LeBlanc, This is exactly what happened to us after Rita. Southeast TX was devastated; 80% of the homes here were damaged. No infrastructure,95 degree heat, no Red Cross for abt. a week, all stores closed, and where was the national media? New Orleans.
With Gustav headed our way we were issued a mandatory evacuation order. We were told ahead of time that IH 10 would be closed from Lake Charles for a period of time and contraflow would be activated to avoid the repeat nightmare of Rita evacuation. DID not happen! The media only cared about New Orleans. Yes, we were spared being hit this time and now Ike is headed into the Gulf.
Like you, we were not flooded by water and not on our rooftops, however we did get out when we were told and yes, I took 3 dogs, 1 cat, 4 birds and a guinea pig. It was a living hell>the national media didn’t care. Like you I have been a loyal Fox fan for several years, but they never came came around here either.

Comment by ClaudetteintheBigEasy

You know it’s a funny thing. Oprah has never as she put it “took a political stance” before BHO. And although I think everyone knows she’s a Dem — it’s truly a no-brainer that she decided to take a stance for the first Black candidate. She didn’t even consider Hillary so her Oprah for women BS went out the window then. But, having said that, Oprah is a lot of things, but I didn’t think she was a “COWARD” and that she would be so threatened by giving Gov. Palin air time. What would it hurt really? Gov. Sarah Palin is already more popular than BHO, Joe Biden AND John McCain and I bet if polled today she would be more popular than the Big O herself!

Comment by Kathy Hilker

After watching Fox and Friends weekend show this morning and hearing the Oprah situation of not having Sarah Palan on her show, I emailed the show and told them I’m taking it off TIVO and I cancelled my subscription to O Magazine. After being a loyal viewer of Oprah’s for the past 20 years I can’t believe she’s not supporing someone who came from nothing and has made her way in the world much the way Oprah has.

Comment by Helen

If it’s appropriate for the media to discuss McCain’s cancer history and the probability of it recurring, isn’t it appropriate to discuss his running mate’s risk of health issues during a term in office?

If Palin conceived at age 42 or 43, she may well conceive again while in office. She could even be pregnant now. At her age that pregnancy will automatically be considered a high-risk one. It would be highly intrusive to ask whether she’s now using birth control (except maybe her hyper-conservative base would be interested in that information too).

I will leave it to the media to figure out the best way to fair-and-balance this one!

Comment by José Ponce

If Oprah decided to not have any running candidates on her show, why would she then have Sarah Palin and not the other candidates specially when she doesn’t support her? Since there’s not always a name tag under you guy’s name, but the new younger guy on the show was pushing that Palin should be on Oprah’s show and when one of you reminded him that when Obama was on her show he was not running at the time his remark was “well everyone knew he was going to run anyways.” ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Is that the kind of fair and balance show you all want to have. I wouldn’t mind that he supported Sarah Palin if he were open about it, but with this type of remark it seems that he wants to turn Fox News to the Sarah Palin channel. You all seem to try hard to not appear as a conservative tilted show, but this doesn’t help to the show to achieve that.

OBAMA SAYS “IT’S NOT ABOUT RACE”……EXCEPT HE FORGOT TO TELL OPRAH!

Comment by Andy B

I believe this will be Oprah’s loss and Sarah’s gain. Oprah supported Hillary in the beginning but jumped to Obama when he got into the race. Anyone want to guess why? So, looking at things from Oprah’s view, which is the most oppressed people? Women (the majority of her viewers) or blacks? It has become divided down racial lines unfortunately. If I were Sarah Palin, I would say thanks but no thanks and pick a different venue than Oprah’s – but as we know, it would be extremely hard to find an unbiased show to go on!

As a working woman, through the years I’ve caught glimpes of the Oprah show whenever I could thinking she supported the average woman’s hopes & dreams, our equal right to both care for our families and successfully work, to achieve, and give our all as Americans in a colorblind society. Now its a bit of a big “O no” to find her view doesn’t support women first, she is frankly bias.

Rather than saying ” while I’d love to showcase this successful woman on the show, I have taken a postion not to have any canidates appear… perhaps her husband (or some other person close to this remarkable woman) will accept an opportunity to tell us about Gov. Palin on my show.”
If she offered anything close to this it was not reported.
How do you think the show sponsers and her viewers will reflect on this occurrence of “true color doubletalk?”

Comment by Audrey Chambers

All of the stuff about Oprah having Sarah Palin on her show is nothing. I haven’t watched Oprah in years and have no intention of starting now. All of this uproar just empowers her show and she is nothing more than a ” hollywood empty head”. Her support of Obama is pure racist. She has not analyzed his policy plans thoroughly or she would see that his taxation plans would dramatically impact her finances. Perhaps she just expects him to protect her and all of their other hollywood cronies.

His plans are pure Marxist and if anyone would read Marx’s writings they would see that. Everything else is out of the Communist Manifesto. Socialism does not work. Everywhere it has been tried has developed a society of dependant citizens who no longer know how to do without the government support. From cradle to grave these people are “taken care of” by their government. That is why the United States is still one of the most productive nations on this earth, we allow our citizens to better themselves. Oprah would not be where she is if she lived in a socialist nation. The government would have redistrubuted her wealth. They would never have allowed her to accomplish what she has. She probably thinks the governing power would protect her but history shows that is not the case. There are a few who are protected by selling their souls but the majority are used for their ability to produce wealth for the govenment.

This is what Obama is trying to establish and all of the socialist, marxist, liberal politicos who support him think it is wonderful because they think they will never be subjected to the same limitations and suppression of belief as the rest of us. They are elitists and think the rest of us don’t have the sense to take care of ourselves.

They are dangerous and there is no way I could ever vote for any of them. I have said for years that the greatest danger to the American Republic and democracy itself is the US Congress. I still stand by that statement and Obama is a prime example along with that dim bulb who is third in line to the Presidency ( God help us) Nancy, snake eyes, Pelosi.

This proves what many have know all along: Oprah Winfrey is a racist.

Hi Aly! I liked your impression of “The Sarah Palin look.” I wish she had your voice!
She is obviously a strong-willed woman with a great ambition, to make things better. I find her refreshing and very inspiring. She is the type of person we need to get the attention of the “Do nothing but cover your own butt professional politicians” in Washington D.C. and I hope she inspires more to follow her lead.

I, like so many others am disappointed with Oprah… that being said, and more importantly, are the recent tasteless jokes Bill Maher made in reference to Gov. Palin’s Down Syndrome child. Is this what the left has come to? Desperation at winning this election at any and all cost? I’m apalled by the lack of common decency displayed by this “bottom feeder” and as a result have cancelled my HBO supscription. I know some will say he’s a comedian and this is what he does. Well folks, guess what…. this time it just isn’t funny-just pathetically sad.

To Oprah — Not only white people can be racist. You are a racist and a bigot. If Sarah Palin was a black woman, you would have her on in a heartbeat! You are afraid that she is more popular than Barack Hussein and that she would overpower you in front of millions of viewers…I will never watch your show again!

To Allison — The media (FOX NEWS included) is trying to be “politically correct”. They are afraid to call her a racist. It makes me angry to see how Oprah is flaunting her racist views. From comments I’ve seen here and on Greta’s Blog, I would surmise that the “O Show” will lose around 50% of its viewers. They should also boycott her advertisers. I’d like to see Rasmussen and Gallop take a poll on that!

I don’t know why their political party still uses the name Democrat. They are Socialists! They want to turn the good old democratic USA into a Socialist country. That is the only way they will be satisfied. They want to have everyone subserviant to the government and have equal economic status. I’m “middle class” and each time the Democrats say they are giving a tax break to the “middle class” my taxes go up! How dare they give our HARD EARNED tax money to those who don’t even pay any income tax!

Oprah would probably be the Secretary of State under an Obama presidency. She can say she had Obama on her show before he was running for president, but she is lying. She knew what his goal and mission is.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to vent our opinions!

Oprah lost all credibility when she had Obama on her show and endorsed him. It is clearly all about race with Oprah.
I do not think that Palin should go on the Oprah show because Oprah would probably not want to talk about issues that are relevant but try to make her look like a bad mother like the rest of the liberal media. Oprah would talk about anything but the fact that Palin is more qualified than Obama and she is just the VP nominee.
I am a registered democrat and am disgusted with the liberal media coverage and the Obama campaign.

She doesn’t want to make a political statement on her show but not having this VP nominee on the show is just that a “political statement”. You can’t have it both ways. Though in her case it seems you can.

You know Alisyn, it is sad that so many people don’t understand that what they see and more importantly don’t see on TV is controlled by so few people who are ultimately pushing their agenda’s or beliefs. It doesn’t necessarilly show that someone is being fair by not having someone on. In this case Oprah is being just as wrong by avoiding having this VP nominee on.

Really enjoy your show! Always good info!

Tks

It could be said that Oprah is being racists.

I find it interesting that the liberals only believe in the Fairness Doctrine when it applies to getting liberals free time on shows but not when it comes to giving the same free time to Sarah Palin. Typical of the democrats. Oprah and her silly insane show is not worth Sarah’s time and talents anyway. She does not need Oprah’s help in getting her message out to the voting public anyway. She is too classy for Oprah.

Oprah claims she doesnt want have any of the candidates on her show, but she has already had BHO numerous times. It really doesnt matter if its before he announced he was running, its just yet another example of the liberal left wingers giving this experienced guy more publicity.

I do know one thing, i will no longer be watching her show, and her ratings will probably drop dramatically because of this, especially among women viewers.

Plus Sarah Palin will have her change to show off her skills to lead this country during debates. She should just stick to doing interviews on network like FNC, and possibly on other conservative media outlets and radio programs.

Oprah’s show is hers to decide whom to have on; however, dissing Gov. Palin until after the election points out just where her political affilliations lie. She would be better served to bring the Governor on and let the chipps fall where they may.

Oprah is a charlatan and fraud and her covert racism is catching up with her with this decision of not having Sarah on her “family” show — The Lord is judging good ole Oprah and that so called church she created where she thinks she has become some god to be worshiped. Every knee shall bow Oprah. Every knee shall bow…

Hello!
I have been entertaining myself today (in between watching college football) on Oprah’s website. I wish I could take credit for the following post that spoke to many of us:

I am a 60 year old woman and not a Repub. or a Dem or an Indep. I vote for the best candidate. I don’t vote along party lines, I would NEVER vote for someone just because they are Dem or Repub., black or white, man or woman, but by what they stand for and what they want to try to do for our country.

I have been a loyal fan of Oprah for too many years to count. I watch her show almost religiously, I buy her magazines and I subscribe to her newsletter and often visit her website. I have loved Oprah and what she stood for. I loved how she fought her weight battle openly and helped the rest of us face ours. I loved how she kicked off her shoes when her feet hurt. I loved how she fought the cattle men….and won! I loved how she used her show for the betterment of all people.I would have voted for HER as president! But now I am heartbroken and feel betrayed by Oprah and good folks at Harpo.

In the beginning, I was enthralled by Barack Obama and brushed aside worries of his inexperience and
