Jay Thomas
So imagine this: a 12-year-old surburban Jersey girl listens everyday to her favorite radio station to hear the voice of her favorite d.j. Jay Thomas. He’s hilarious and sarcastic. He pokes fun at celebrities and rock stars. One time he has a charity auction of celebrity items and this starry-eyed adolescent schemes, along with her bestfriend, that they’ll bid a whopping $25 on Shawn Cassidy’s jacket. She really just wants the opportunity to talk to Jay Thomas on the phone and she figures they can scrape together some cash if they win. But she’s so flummoxed when Jay Thomas actually answers the radio station phone that she bids $100 dollars! Ahh…I remember the fear it like it was yesterday (please don’t do the math). My friend and I spent the next hour praying we’d loose the bid before having to confess my impulse bid to our parents (we were thankfully outbid). After that phone call, I imagined that some day, somehow I could actually meet Jay Thomas. And then that day happened. He had an autograph signing at the mall in our little town. There was Jay Thomas in the flesh and my and I were wildly starstruck. He actually playfully bantered with me over the mall’s loudspeaker. I kept that 8×10 glossy up in my room forever. And this morning in the Greenroom I once again had the opportunity to chat with Jay Thomas (ok, stalk). I recounted all of this for him and he, of course, remembers none of it. In fact, he seemed somewhat petrified by my vivid recollections. But he did pose for a photo with me.

Ali
Well, you got to see Jay, congrats on having some great fun….the ride on his back proved you look just as going as you do coming at us…..lol The after the show show should have gone on….it was fun hearing about all of the “early crushes” of the group……
Good show today….
Doesn’t that just show that dreams do come true. That gives hope for my dream. I want to work at the fox new work network some day!!!!
It could happen! I’m living proof.
How bout that! Hard to believe he didn’t even remember your hair!
Alisyn - Now that all your dreams have been fulfilled, what will you do with yourself?
Oh, I don’t know. Nap?
Alisyn this sounds so exciting for you. I remember Jay from Cheers, he was Carla’s Husband. Great character as well!
I don’t think that was Jay on Cheers. He was on Murphy Brown for a while.
And Mork and Mindy!
Alisyn,
I was a Jay Thomas fan when he was on The Big Ape (WAPE) in Jacksonville, Florida. He was the best morning show guy that I had ever heard.
Alisyn, you look Great.
Sal
You too Sal. I imagine.
Alisyn, Sal’s right, you look absolutely terrific this morning. If my finacee had a more open sense of humor (and I was 30 years younger), I’d let you run away with me in a heartbeat.
That might require more than a sense of humor on her part.
Kathy and Marshall,
Jay was on both shows. He did lots of guest spots in the 80s.
Jay started off in radio here in Charlotte before moving on to other markets.
Didn’t remember you Alisyn??? Clearly he either has memory issues or can’t tell a goddess even when she is standing right there.
Alisyn, I heard him say that you were stalking him.
Is he gay or blind?
Neither, just misguided!
Ali,
Didn’t catch much tv in the last few days, but I did see you on Fox News Watch. You did an excellent job–as always!
You asked if my husband’s name was Harry in a previous blog. No, that must have been another guy letting you know about the misidentified heavy equipment (front-end loader vs. bulldozer). My husband is Dwane.
Jay Thomas is great! I have enjoyed him on any and every show I’ve ever seen him on. He seems just like a regular guy.
Bummer–No Greg Kelly today. I like him much better as fill-in host. Hopefully he’s still with Fox.
Thanks Gwen. I always like to know who on here is attached to whom. Yes, Greg’s still here.
Okay, okay, I was wrong. Dan Hedaya was her ex-husband and Jay was her new husband. But I do remember him better of Murphy Brown.
Jay was on the foillowing TV Shows:
Mork and Mindy (He and his sister owned the deli)
Cheers (As Carla’s Ice Skating Penguin of a husband)
Love And War (I Admit I never saw it)
and Murphy Brown
Jay Thomas is actualy a very funny actor, and has some great stories about Robin Williams. I hope that he enjoyed his time with Alisyn.
That’s a terrific story Alisyn. How cool it is for you to be in the position now to meet some of your childhood hero’s..
Great job you did hosting “Fox News Watch”. I think the show should be extended to an hour, and that you should be given the hosting gig permanently.. I liked the way you allowed the panelists to mix-it-up a bit among themselves on the various topics; making it a more lively show than usual.
Your versatility is becoming legendary: From hosting F&F, to a panelist on Red Eye…From hosting Fox News Watch, to moderating a college forum on politics..You can do it all, and you do it all well…
Love your work.

I love your blouse. Where did you get it?
I loved your blouse today!! Is it yours- or a wardrobe item? I also loved that Clayton from the weekend got to fill in for Brian. I think you all worked well with the “youngster”.
Gwen,
I agree, I much prefer Greg Kelly as a fill in also.
Glad to hear he is still with Fox. Now how about
Page Hopkins?
I’ll try this again- I liked seeing a weekend host filling in.
It seems like lot of people have been asking about this,
Greg Kelly is on vacation until further notice.
Page Hopkins is still with FNC, she probably works behind the scenes. If she was anywere else, we would have known by now.
Alysin-
I hope you were able to get an autograph from Jay also.
If she didn’t Brad…well, I am sure she has the autograph to go with the picture..to add to her many other pictures of the rich and famous Aysin has in her “gallery” of…:)
Ms. Alisyn,
Sorry I had to do the math. I still get you looking like 25.
chas
Loved your story and can certainly identify with it!
Hey Ali,
How’s that bump on your head feel. Little sore, eh?
I bet she also has an autograph of the great Chuck Norris
He was and still is one of my role models, back in the day. I still watch his show regularly.
Jay Thomas was on all those 80s sitcoms you guys have mentioned, he was(and still is) very high in demand in Hollywood. One of the best character actors of our time, just above the great Marshall Teague.
Three things that kids do:
1. Play games.
2. Watch tv.
3. Listen to the radio.

And listen we did in our very own way-
Especially at a time when we had our
favorite DJ.

Alisyn, I listen to Fox and Friends, Fox News, Fox Talk, and the Jay Thomas Show every day on Sirius radio. I would suggest you immediately get help for your infatuation with Jay Thomas. He has issues. LOL. Keep up the great work on FOX.
I dont really have Fox News Radio where i live, maybe someone can tell me what kinds of programs they have on there. Is it a simulcast of FNC?
Hi Alisyn — I book Jay’s guest interviews for his radio show on Sirius. He would like you to come on next week if possible. Can you contact me pls? Thanks, Lauren from The Jay Thomas Show.
