Alisyn in the Greenroom

80s Photos

I’m not sure why my memories of the 80’s are crystal-clear yet my photos are so blurry.  Apparently camera technology has radically improved since the 80’s and now you can actually SEE the subjects in photos.   Here’s what you need to know about these photos.  In the first one, I’m with my Mom (the woman who looks like my sister standing to my right), my 8-year-old cousin Kristin and my beloved late grandparents, Gram and Poppy.  We’re on our annual vacation to the Jersey-shore hotspot of  Wildwood, NJ.  Those were very happy, sunny times.  I often wore leopard print in the 80s, even at the beach, apparently.  The photos from Prom Night are noteworthy for the size of my hair.  It has almost as many layers as my dress.  Even my boyfriend has big hair and of course the requisite white tux.  The picture to the left of the prom pic is me with my first love Sam (doing his best Ric Ocasek impersonation).  This is not Sam and me heading to a retro costume party — this is really how we dressed to go out!  Yes, that’s a choker I’m wearing and yes, that’s a Members Only jacket on Sam.  The last picture is of course the most shocking because I haven’t seen abs like that in decades (and I’m not talking about Greg’s to my right).  I can only hope the muscles still exist somewhere under the layer of flesh I’m now sporting.  See, that was BEFORE three children.  Oh, and you can’t beat the standard-issue 80’s trademarks also seen in the pic:  the Wayfarer sunglasses and my Joan Jett mullet.  Enjoy.

Happy July 2nd to Alisyn!!!

It’s just one day closer to Friday for me and I am happy about that!!!!!!!!!!

Without a doubt the new kind of candidate is revealing himself as the quintessential politician. Not sure why so many have been so slow to recognize that fact. His whole life appears to be one political move after another.

For some reason I had my cable set to the ‘80s last night. I don’t care who you are that thar was some good music! Lol

You were a living doll in your prom dress, but your hair was bigger than you. :;

Al, your prom picture reminds me of the Seinfeld episode (The Fix-Up) where Elaine sets George up with a girlfriend on a blind date. George asks Jerry “How’s her hair, if you put your hand in her hair could you get it out?” Jerry responds “Do you want to be able to get your hand out?”

I am not sure if one could get their hand out of your prom hair. Love the “do”!!!

And that was without spray!

Not sure what the headlines will be this weekend but I bet a few will have to do with Obama and McCain. Hey, I took the easy way out on that one. lol

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Not the headlines — more like the coverage of the headlines. That’s what FOX News Watch deals with.

Good morning Ms. Alisyn,

I’ll have to wait until I get home to see the show, but I do TIVO all 3 hours today and tomorrow.

I agree with Marshall. Obama is nothing any newer rthan anyother politican. Every word, every move and every action is all carefully planned.

He still is getting a pass from most the media on his lie, yes lie, no other word for it, on using public funds to run his WH bid on.

If McCain had done that you wouldn’t hear the end of it.

Have a great day and I’m looking forward to seeing your pictures tonight. ;)

The biggest story of the week has to be the girl in Vermont and the hospital ididots who let a woman die right there in the ER. Ali dont get sick love and go to Cook County. You might get Cooked at County before we ever no what is really cooking!…So sad

Its always fun to see how we looked, in my case, way back when. I had lots of pics from the 70’s, but not from the 80’s. I guess that was my lost time?

I’ve always had a hard time believing anything any politician says. It’s not surprising they change their views or positions. It looks like Sen Obama is trying hard to make himself more mainstream. On the Gen. Clark episode, it strikes me as hypocritical what he said about Sen. McCain, yet Sen. Obama has no qualifications to be President at all.

We won’t be able to watch this weekend as we are going to Gulf Shores, AL for a few days of sun and beach. Happy 4th Alisyn!

Good Morning Lady in Red! (Wasn’t that a song in ‘86? and “Woman in Red” a movie in ‘84?)

Alisyn that you have even 4 photos from the 80s is better than me. I think the lack of photos shows we were too busy having fun to take pics. (Well that is my story and I am sticking to it. LOL)

What I was listening to in the 80s was “The Police”, “Dire Straits”, “The Cars”, “Oingo Boingo”, “Genesis”, and Eric Clapton. (Sure Clapton is more than the 80s but he was rocking it out then too!)

How has the 80s week gone this far without any mention of the greatest figure from that decade, Max Headroom? He also turned a series of commercials into a TV series.

Hey Aly, Can I be your Sledgehammer?

Opps the phone is ringing…. It is Viena Calling! Rock Me Amadeus!!

Good Morning,
Clark attacked McCains Military record and then Obama tries to look honorable by saying he doesnt endorse Clarks comments, Please, it was a cordinated attack on McCains Military record, Obamas campaign is behind it all the way,
and one more thing Obama is to far to the left to move to the center, because Obama is a Carter like candidate.

To be a bit more serious this morning I would like to point out that the two news lead stories this morning, the bulldozer terrorist attack in Jerusalem, and Sheley & the 8 murder spree case, show that for those that want to kill a gun is not needed. They will find a way.

Alisyn, I think this morning you already hit on the big story of the news stories for this week is the flip-flops by McCain and Obama on campaign issues.

How can you show the 80’s without playing JOURNEY music. They were the hottest in the 80s. The music I have heard thus far isn’t anything I even remember hearing and I don’t remember those artists. Try some Steve Perry (the voice) music.

I love what you are doing for “Patriotism”—-totally fantastic. It is wonderful that you all care and show you care about this country and it’s values and what makes it a GREAT COUNTRY—-THANK YOU!!

I am a big fan—watch from 6:00 am - 9:00 am EVERY DAY!!

Please play some JOURNEY music.

Good Morning Alisyn:

Have you noticed how angry the liberals media types are? That liberal talk show host looked like he was constipated, and his rhetoric was just reeked with anger. The same goes for Al Franken, Ariana Huffington and the chick from Minnesota was was fired for her comments about Hillary.

Can they not come up with any reason to support their positions, or do they think that anger alone will convince independents they are right?

(This is not to say that the conservative side doesn’t have people who come across as kooks, they just are not anyone who sticks in your mind for very long.)

Have a great day.

Comment by Mike Malone

Has there been any mention this week of the “Brat Pack” from the 80s?

I don’t think there was a movie made in the 80s that wasn’t either an action movie or something with members of the ‘brat pack’.
“The Breakfast Club” & “St Elmo’s Fire” are two of the biggest ‘Brat Pack’ movies from the 80s.

Good morning Alysin and a big ole Hi to chas who is my favorite guy,

I have to admit I do get tired of the same news stories over and over again. But that is the way of the world right now. I try to tune out the election stuff. After the convention is over—-I will do my own research and then decide who I think is the best choice. But I was amazed to see James Dobson in the news. When my kids were young he was known in our church family as a good author about families. We had a film seriers by him about raising children. I had no idea he had gained such fame.

My heart breaks for the family of the missing 12 year old girl in Vermont. I am not even sure more coverage is in the best interest of the family—-but I would like to think it may warn another family of the dangers of the internet. It is very easy to get sucked into a relationship that does not really exist for any good reasons. People are lonely in our over crowded world and women seem to be the most vunerable.

The Democrats have planned this strategy to smear McCain all along. Oh, now John Kerry–he was a REAL war hero. BLEEUCCHH….

The 80’s–I had 4 kids in 7 years. I have no recollection of ANYTHING until 1988 when the motherhood fog lifted. Even in pictures from then I see myself but have no recollection of ever being there. Those were the years I drank my bourbon out of Tommy Tippee cups (cuz I couldn’t find a glass). By ‘88 all were potty trained and could brush their own teeth and life could go on.

That prom dress Ali–it looks like Joan Collins revenge and you certainly can’t say that “do has fallen and it can’t get up”

That poor little girl in VT didn’t have a chance, being surrounded by so many creeps and apparently women that didn’t much care what was going on right under their noses. I read that affidavit given by the other girl and that turned my stomach! Made me think of the odd timing with the supreme Court’s decision about child rape.

Comment by Harry osborn

Alisyn, please quit calling that piece of equipment used in the attack in Jerusalem a bulldozer. A bulldozer is mounted on tracks, and uses a blade to push earth. The actual weapon used was a Caterpillar rubber tired front end loader which uses a bucket.

Good Morning Eileen,

As long as the 12 yr old Vermont girl is missing I don’t think coverage is bad.
Knowing that there seemed to be problems with her uncle and step father leads me to think she might have run away from home to avoid the danger that they posed. She may still be running/hiding afraid of them. Maybe she doesn’t know they have been arrested. Or maybe she doesn’t feel that will keep her safe, knowing how the system sometimes treats the victims of sexual assault.

Some newsworthy events this week to cover on the weekend:

1. 15 of 18 benchmakrs achieved in Iraq and goes largely unnoticed by mainstream media and Democrats.

2. Harry Reid’s comments on “coal makes us sick”

3. Obama’s rush to the center and his continued flip flops. Rush Limbaugh did a great comparison of this on his radio show yesterday.

4. Dying man in emergency room at hospital.

It will be good to see Alisyn this weekend. Who normally host that show? Btw, where is Ali? Is she trapped in the 80’s?

Comment by Laurie

I don’t think you want to see my pictures from the 80’s. Had way too much fun.

I think the talk will be about the Obama/Clark comments. I think Obama knew exactly what Clark was going to say so he could look like the big man and rebuke such terrible things. Especially if it has to do with being patiotic. After everything that everybody has said, it seems to be a trail that leads straight to Obama’s campaign. How can he not know about these things.

Something that I think would be an interesting segment on ‘Fox News Watch’ would be a comparison of the way the media has covered the flooding in the upper midwest as compared to the coverage of the flooding in New Orleans.
The mid-west flooding coverage has been much less dramatic. We haven’t seen Shep or other news anchors on the ground covering it. Could it be that flooding in many, many small towns isn’t as “sexy” as one city being flooded?

Only 2 minutes until our Queen of the blog shares her photos. Not that I am counting down. :)

Alisyn,
Technically, the terrorist in Israel was on a front-end loader—not a bulldozer. So says my husband who has worked in construction for almost 40 years. Just a minor item.

Also, the Mike guy from Air America is a real idiot. Just thought I’d tell you in case you didn’t pick up on it by yourself.

Comment by GaryT

Actually John McCain must be getting a boost from all this talk about his military service record! I would only imagine that the rather proliferous coverage of this story is only serving to make people realize that the Obama campaign is orchestrating it and they are going to begin to see what type of underhanded people the Democrats are. John McCain is getting a lot of free attention in the media right now!

Another failed attempt by the Democrats to run down the Republicans, so they can get in power and accomplish just what they have always accomplished, “ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!”

I’ve listened to all the conversation about what Clark, and I’ve read available transcripts. I did not see an attack on any part of McCain’s service. I herd praise from both Clark and Rangel.
Enough, this has gon too far. Let’s find another topic for political bloviation!!!

Gwen, you are absolutely right about “the Mike guy.” I recently listened to the left station on Sirius — just to be fair and balanced. I couldn’t believe not only the hatred with total lack of substance but also the disgusting language. I even heard someone call Jenna Bush a vile name because of the publicity at the time of her wedding! We listened all the way from Denver back to Kansas — I was in the back seat and had no control over the radio! During the entire drive I did not hear one logical argument or specific plan to solve our problems.

Hot D__! I knew those photos would be worth the wait!

Once I pulled my tongue back in to my mouth (Although the drooling continues!)

A huge hit from the 80s immediately came to mind! “The Boys of Summer”

“I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin in the sun
You got your hair combed back and your
Sunglasses on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you
Will still be strong after the boys of
Summer have gone”

Don Henley’s “Buliding the Perfect Beast” was a huge album in 86 with many hits.

Good morning Alysin,

I don’t remember John McCain talking much about his military service. Hummm….so whatsup with these people? Ah! Yes, politics as usual, of course. His service speaks to his character I must think? Yes, of course, and nothing else. Did he decide to make the military a career? Well, no he didn’t, but it is a part of the fabric of the man we see, me thinks? Is it necessary to have made this particular journey to be qualified to be president? I don’t think so. A person can be of good character and honorable without having experienced being a prisoner of war. Like most soldiers, he doesn’t like to talk about it much, and doesn’t consider himself a hero….and that is very normal. None of the soldiers I know, and I know a few, talk about their experience. It is tucked away, and although a part of their fabric of life, it does not define their life. I hope we are all aware the General Clark is not a man of character or honor? He is a general…and will always be a general. With that, his responsibility is greater than the average citizen, perhaps, and he has demonstrated that he, indeed, is neither a man of good character or honor. He has successfully changed the dialog from the important issues this country faces, to whether or not the journey has made John McCain a better man. I suppose if the jr senator from Illinois doesn’t have to do anything but make pretty speeches, this serves his run for office very very well? Yes, I think so. To believe that it is not orchestrated by the jr senator and his minions, is ridiculous, and does speak volumes about his lack of character and honor. We are reminded yet again, we simply must listen, think and discern. These are not anonymous people, after all. They are part of his campaign, and he is responsible for their behavior. As we enjoy the birth of our nation, and celebrate the hero’s of…we need to look closely at these men, and decide just who brings to the office the tools needed to protect this land from the evil that lurks just beyond our boarders…and decided that New York was an excellent target as a first strike within our actual boarders. We know it wasn’t really their first strike, but it certainly got our attention!!! We must be able to protect and defend, or all is lost for sure. I just paused to fix my hero father breakfast. He is eighty five now, a war hero. His aircraft was shot up, he was wounded, and his spotter was mortally wounded. He managed to fly his crippled aircraft back from behind enemy lines, and land on an obscure field dug out of the side of a mountain. Does this experience qualify him to be president? OF COURSE IT DOES!!! I admit, however, a huge huge bias. He is more qualified today, with Alzheimer’s, than the jr senator from Illinois will ever be, however, and of that I am positive! lol

I second the writer about the flood coverage on News Watch (which I never miss). The people in the midwest just seem to suck it up and get on with the cleanup. No mass exodus to Houston I notice (or Chicago or Omaha or wherever). I do think the footage was dramatic (family gasping several times at coverage) but the hysterics (or hystrionics I should say) on display continually with the Katrina debacle were just too much sometimes and over the top.
