Gas Prices
We all know the problem: $4 dollar a gallon gas. So, let’s talk about some solutions. John McCain will be giving a policy speech today on oil. He favors lifting the federal moratorium on domestic exploration and wants to give state’s the option to drill. But he does NOT believe in tampering with the Alaskan National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR) where analysts believe millions of gallons of oil lie. What do you think? Is domestic drilling the answer? Is ANWR the answer? (I do like the spelling symmetry).

It is part of the answer.
Very cryptic Mr. Hoff. Care to riddle us the rest of the answer?
Doing anything would be better than doing nothing…..which is what has been done….nothing!
Good morning Ms. Alisyn,
It’s nice to have you back. I hope you are feeling a lot better. Ms. Audra, did a fine job filling in for you yesterday. It was nice to have her stop in and talk to us.
The sooner we start drilling the sooner demand exceeds supply and the harder it will be for speculators to drine up the price of crude.
BUT, what it is not going to do, and this keeps getting left out, is that without more refinneries there will be no increase in Gas products. Refinneries are already running at 98%, without more refinneries the price will not go down very much.
We’ve built like 1 new plant since Reagan was President and added how many drivers to the road? How’s that working for ya greenies?
Drilling might slow down the rise, but we need new refinneries also.
Have a nice day and again it’s nice to have you back Ms. Alisyn. Hi Ms. Audra.
chas
You make a great point Chas. Why isn’t John McCain talking about that today?
Good Morning Alisyn,
we need to start drilling here in the United States, so we do not have to depend on Foreign countrys, and if ANWR is the answer, and other places in America,
lets start drilling.
Sal
Conservation
Alternative energy sources
New high tech refineries built in strategic areas
And drilling
One other big consideration, most of the gasoline is used by commercial and public vehicles. Municipalities should lead the way with the purchase of hybrids, electric and natural gas vehicles and businesses should be given strong incentives to follow suit. It is difficult for the average individual to make this commitment due to the prohibitive costs, but public vehicles have to be replaced more frequently and buying in quantity should offset some of the increased expenses.
Nice to see your back and feeling better Alisunshine,
Why is it ok for China and India to drill for oil off the coast of Florida and we can’t? They could angle drill to get very close to us. I think that oil if there is any there should be ours. Also in the great lakes why is it ok for Canada to drill natural gas wells in them and we can’t. Oh, because that might pollute the water. Like Canada isn’t doing any of that? I think precautions would be taken to be very careful about not damaging the environment. Let the oil companies invest their profits and DRILL.
Alisyn, on the comment that chas made,
John McCain should be talking about that,
and the American people would love if we start drilling to lower the price of gas.
Sal
Ms. Alisyn,
McCain isn’t going to talk about that because that would upset even more the greenies and other wacko’s that think we can just go back to riding horses.
I’m not an oil guy, but it doesn’t take much to see that having oil and not being able to reine it does nothing.
chas
We seem to live in an age where opportunists move in and artificially inflate prices for their own benefit without regard to the greater damage that may occur. Speculators have driven the price of oil up significantly much the way day traders drove the stock market in the 90’s and you can see examples more recently with housing speculators. Look at Ticketmaster! You can’t even get a decent seat at an event because ticket brokers buy up all the good seats. Soooo…I’m not sure how much that behavior has contributed to gas prices and drilling for more domestic will help but I don’t see gas prices going down soon.
In the meantime, do your part to save gas by calling in sick at least once a week to watch Alisyn. It’s a win-win.
Anyone that would sit on a public toilet seat without wiping it down first deserves whatever they get! What is the cure time for super glue? How many of us are going to sit down on a wet toilet seat and stay put long enough to get stuck? I don’t buy it!
Even if we started drilling and building refineries today it would be years before it would be in the supply line and effecting prices. What we need is some steps to stop the wild speculation that is driving the price so high so quickly.
If the law was changed to go back to limiting what institutions could buy and sell, plus requiring 50% of the purchase price instead of allowing it to be bought on spec, it would stop the wild speculation and the jumps in price.
But this would require going after the big, big money companies and institutions and we all know politicians never bite the hand with the wallet in it.
Morning Alisyn, Glad to see you back!!!!! We need to drill wherever we can, Anwar, off the coast of Florida, we need to build new refinneries, wind power… we need to do what ever it takes to stick our noses up to the middle east……Who ever get behind all this will be our next president…. lets pray it is McCain!!!!!!
Alysin,
I am ready to hit the road for work, but must say DRILL DRILL DRILL, while looking for allllllllll the alternative ways to operate the “world” without oil. Have a wonderful day and again, it is so nice to have you back on the show! And you look lovely as always. I hope there really is not a bruise from Brian’s vigorous hello this morning.
:) I am off, sadly, to make a buck. After all, it took $73.00, to fill Pearl up, and that was not high test, which is what she prefers. lol
Thanks Gini! And it’s because of Brian that I have to wear body armor under my clothing.
Alisyn,
Mike I know it would take years, but the middeastern countrys will see us drilling and they will drop the price of oil,
because they dont want to lose the United States, as a good customer.
Sal
Alisyn, Great to have you back this morning and feeling better. You were greatly missed yesterday morning.
A note to the writers of the show. If you are going to tell that the CDC has named 5 new states to the list of those effected by the tomato salmanella problem, maybe it is a good idea to name the 5 new states. Otherwise the information doesn’t do people much good.
I know the WSJ article didn’t name the 5 states but try going to the CDC website and looking. It took me three minutes to compare Monday’s list of states to the list from Friday and find out the new 5 states. But hey, I am not a professional journalist so maybe I was wrong to think which 5 states is part of the story and do the research rather than just read something out of the paper.
The 5 states, for those interested are Arkansas, North Carolina, Maryland, Ohio, and Kentucky.
A story that should be of interest that seemed to be over looked this morning on F&F is that the Red Cross’s disaster fund is broke!
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hMJ81LncZ0pZyI7ll954BwZowU6QD91BFMT00
The Red Cross is borrowing money to help those effected by the historic flooding in the midwest. Obviously the flooding crisis is not even half way thru plus we are early in hurricane season, and a record year for tornados. The Red Cross needs money and needs it now!
You can go to redcross.org to donate. Don’t forget to give blood either to the Red Cross blood drive near you.
Mike,
Are you available?? Please tell me this is your official job application. You’re hired!
No doubt there is oil in the ANWR…doesn’t surprise me that McCain doesn’t agree with drilling there. Just another example of why I have problems with this nominee for our Republican Party. Shame on the Republican party for nominating this liberal.
Malone…you are right on buddy…all of it. I couldn’t have worded it even half as good.
Oil there? Yes! Drill or not drill? As my kids would say … DUH… DRILL. It won’t effect the prices now, but it will help our future.
We simply must STOP depending so heavily on foreign oil. We need to keep things in the USA, including our clothing plants and other plants.
It all comes down to the love of money… as with almost every problem in life. Even the toilet seat story, see what I mean?
Good morning. This is my first post. I enjoy your show, except Kilme needs to understand that most of the world doesn’t care about the Yankees.
On to the subject.
We need to deal with the oil companies. We need to negotiate some solution to this mess.
The oil companies fear regulation and actually threatens us with long gas lines if we try. The last president to try was Jimmy Carter and we all know what happened to him. We should use that in the negotiations.
This is what the oil companies want: drilling domestically and more refineries domestically.
This is what we need: lower prices and environmental protection guarantees, but most importantly, a guarantee that the oil that is recovered from our shores GOES BACK TO THE UNITED STATES and is not sold on the international market. No one talks about this, but the oil market in not local. If we are going to driil in ANWAR, that oil CANNOT be sold to China.
Alisyn, why isn’t anyone talking about this? Where does our oil go if it is drilled?
Alisyn, two things:
1. I think Mr. Hoff is trying to slide a funny name by you.
2. You should use Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks” as background music for the floods today.
Love the show.
Greg
1. Nothing gets by me.
2. I’ll tell Toba.
Alisyn, thank God my last name is not Manella.
Sal
Ha! Maybe it should be Vation.
Just the announcement that we intended to drill in ANWR would impact the per barrel cost of oil. Speculators are betting we won’t and the supply will shrink over the next several years. Supply and demand are only a part of this economic equation.
The Hoff family is duly insulted!
We don’t mean any offense to little Back or Get.
Ali,
We need to try EVERYTHING. The USA can’t be in a position where we are dependant on the Middle East and South America! We listened to the tree huggers for way too long and now it’s biting us!
I think we should drill where ever we have to in order to supply ourselves with what we need. Never mind taxing the oil companies, because they will probably work that $$ into the prices they charge and a tax holiday will only last for a short time. We need to drill and have more refineries HERE. Why don’t we get the oil from Iraq as payment for all that we have done for them. I mean we are rebuilding and restructuring their country for what, nothing. I also am tired of hearing about how the Republicans are part of the oil companies, because I am very sure that there are alot of Democrats owning a good chunk of those companies themselves. I believe that the majority of ALL politicians are in the oil companies pockets.
I appreciate how someone can assume that more drilling would soften prices. However, I don’t believe that to be true. The high price of gasoline is actually quite similar to the high price of housing prior to the crash. Wild speculation in the markets and limited number of refineries is the culprit. If it makes sense that drilling for more oil would ease prices then it would be equally logical that building more homes would have softened the real estate boom. It didn’t. Hope you’re feeling better. Be well.
Welcome back Ali. Re: your US Open Story, you could have fooled me that you knew nothing about golf.
I fully agree with CHAS that we need to not only drill for oil, but we must have more refineries. Everyone wants the oil, but no one is willing to have them drill on-shore or off-shore or have the refineries built in their back yard. If we do not start drilling and building now, look for $10 gas prices.
Can you say, “Get your bicycles out.”
I say everyone should have two barrels of oil and a spotted owl in every pot!
This is why McCain will never win over the Conservatives, Moderates and why, much to my dismay, he will get stomped by the second coming of Jimmy Carter this November. It is gonna be a looooonnnggggg 4 – 8 years………………………….:(
Good Morning Ali,
Looking Good, Purple is defiantly your color…
P.S. Drill every ware we can, our children’s future depends on it.
Hello Alisyn, this is a soar topic for me, I have spent many many hours researching this topic, my question in regards to your question is why is everyone so focused on ANWR? This country is loaded with oil, you also have California, the gulf of mexico, the rockies, the dakotas and more, we have more oil here then in saudi arabia.
hello?
Hi, this is Alisyn. Can I help you?
It’s time that John McCain came out and offerred some sort of solution to the fiasco over rising gas prices. My only wish is that he would be more forceful. Listening to him has the same effect on me that it has on Brian. It puts me to sleep!
Drilling off shore and in ANWR will help but your other bloggers are right. Without more refineries it will not have much effect. Unfortunately, it takes a long time to build a new refinery and that once again is the fault of the beaucrats.
If we want to get the attention of the oil companies and the congress then we need a person in position to stand up against them and lay down the law. He or she needs to tell them we are going to uncap the wells we capped up during the 70’s, we are going to drill in ANWR and wherever else we need to drill, we are going to force an excess profits tax on the oil companioes, we are going to cap the price of gas at $2.50 a gallon, and until further notice we are going to suspend all trading in oil stocks!
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am as conservative as the next person. I wouldn’t vote for a democrat to save my life, and I do not like to hear of the federal government intervening into the free marketplace, but this has gone on too long. We are beginning to hamstring the economy. That’s probably what the democrats want so they can rise to complete power , then sell us down the river!
It isn’t until that the members of Congress take a real hit in the pocketbook, which would happen if we suspend trading in oil stocks, that things would change. Same for the oil companies, until we hit them where they live there won’t be any changes. Why would they want to see the price go down. Hell, their makng record profits!
Why is it OK for a certain select few to have the benefits that a free market economy can bring. Why is it OK for the oil company exec’s to make a fortune off the backs of the consumers? Why is it OK for certain Senators to get the discounted loans from the mortgage comapny while the hard working people of this country have to be turned down for a loan? Where do the people we call our public servants get off telling us how to live our lives while at the same time they are taking advantage of everything good.
Last time I checked they were just like me, they puts their pants or panties on just like we do, one leg at a time! Yeah, we need change! But the change offerred by the democrats, Obama in particular, means taking down the Stars and Stripes and putting the Hammer and Sickle up over the Whitehouse.
Unfortunately, I don’t see John McCain offerring anything more substantial!
Alisyn,
I would jump at the job in a NY minute but I think the commute is a bit long for me.
(Besides we both know if I was there all I would get done is following you around like a puppy and my drooling all the time. LOL)
elaine,
A lot of the domestic oil is trapped in the shale rock and takes much more effort to extract it. IN ANWR it is liquid crude, just like they pump in the Middle East. It is cheaper and less effort to turn it into gasoline and other petroleum based products.
But we do need to be working on ways to get the oil out of the shale rock. That is another legislative measure that needs to be taken that the greens are blocking.
On Gore’s endorsement of Obama last night, isn’t it interesting to see Gore after the last 7 yrs belly aching about loosing in 2000 after winning the popular vote, now endorsing Obama even though Hillary is the one that won the popular vote in the Democratic primaries?
I guess Gore has changed his opinion about how important it is to win the most number of votes.
The fact that the price of gas is not impacting things even harder gives justification for keeping high prices. If we pay, why would they lower the cost? Also, what is the real answer behind the cost og gas going up? Every time i listen to FOX News I feel like I hear different answers, from guests to the hosts. Is there a real answer?
Go to AmericanSolutions.com and sign the petition to drill now. This is an interesting Web Site and has some good ideas about our energy needs. We should drill for oil, build nuclear power plants and yes drill even in Anwar. Keep our oil in this country and not allow it to be sold on international markets. We can do this if our elected officials will get off there butts and do it. We should vote out of office any elected officials that doesn’t vote to get us out of this mess now.
Glad to see you back.
I would also like to point out about all this talk that it will take to long to build the refineries, just remember that however long the government says it will take, it usually takes alot faster then their prediction, so before hypothetically stipulating how long it will take, do research first then come up with the conclusion.
Hi Alisyn,
Can’t believe that McCain is now leaning towards legistation to permit drilling in
Alaska.
I do know that it was the Democrats that poo pooed it several years ago.
The problem now is that it will take ten years to benefit from the drilling. Way to
late, by then we should have an abundance of electrical auto’s running on water.
Ellen
Spuddy Buddy !!!
I loved watching the commercials that Spuddy did with Kulongowski … Those were a laugh riot !!
Alisyn, yes, I like that.
Sal
Something that has been done in the past that I haven’t heard mentioned is if Bush would use Executive order to eliminate all of the different blends of gasoline that are required in different parts of the country.
These boutique blends do artifically rise the prices in parts of the country. It also would take some of the pressure off of the refineries and allow them to make just one or two blends, thus reducing the cost.
But MIke, you could always wear a bib…lol
I would also like to point out that if you take all of the money the oil company has made on oil, they paid out more in taxes then they profited, now what if that was your paycheck? stop saying the oil companies are making all this money.
Mike, I didn’t see the endorsement of Gore because I havn’t paid much attention to the Obama campaigne, but that would be ironic huh? LOL I wonder if someone should remind him of that. LOL oops, you just did. LOL
I would say the oil companies have us over a barrel, but that would be too obvious. There’s no reason not to drill in the ANWR. It will be interesting to see what Sen. McCain says.
Drill here drill now, and Drill Alaska. Cuba, China and I think Russia are all drilling off the coast of Florida we are definately behind the times.
Independent oil is the key to our future, anywhere in the USA needs to be drilled and quickly.
Buut elaine, building refinneries would in the long term be an investment. Because as demand continues to increase, we could reap the reward of being able to meet that demand.
elaine,
Last year Exxon set a record for profits for any company worldwide. They made so mcuh money that they are selling off their retail gas stations that made $50 million in profit last year because they said the profit isn’t worth the trouble of the stations.
When a company is making so much that they can afford to say $50 million/yr isn’t worth the trouble then you can’t convince me they are hurting.
A windfall tax is not the answer but the big oil companies are making record profits at the same time the record gas prices are hurting people and the national economy. I don’t think anyone is sheding tears for them.
Let’s see . . . everything I learned I learned from Star Trek so . . . .
1. we need to develop warp engine technology
2. we need to develop tranporter technology
3. we need to develop replicator technology ( ahh this is the one – then we just take a gallon of gas and replicate 1,000 gallons – don’t need more any more stinking oil !)
Just kidding, of course. I say DRILL DRILL DRILL DRILL DRILL !
Lots of great ideas–but we’ve got to be able to refine what comes out of the ground. Build refineries, drill-drill-drill, oil from shale, wind power, solar power, nuclear power, more efficient vehicles. I’m for all of those. Allow the oil companies to do their job and don’t tie their hands behind their backs. But we’ve got to start NOW. We’re years behind already. Our Congress needs to get off their lazy butts and get something done. They work for us, and they should be held accountable if they are a roadblock to this mess we’re in with energy. It irks me to depend on the Middle East–to have to go to the Saudis hat-in-hand and ask them, pretty please, will you pump more oil. We’ve got oil. We need to get our own and tell Saudi Arabia just where they can put their oil.
Go to AmericanSolutions.com and sign their petition. Maybe that’s a step that will get our Congress motivated. Yes, Luis, if we are subjected to the 2nd coming of Jimmy Carter, we’re headed down the road to ruin. A very, very long 4 – 8 years. I fear for my children and grandchildren.
Gwen
We need to get away from oil, period. How about getting our great engineering schools like Michigan, Penn State, MIT together and give them an assignment for their best undergraduate and graduate students–come up with a new form of energy not oil based as soon as possible. It is out there-we need to just look for it.
You want to punish ExxonMobil-put them out of business with a new form of fuel!!!!!
This is interesting. We only get excited when gas prices rise. Why don’t the Europeans get excited like we do? They are paying twice what we pay.
In Iraq, it is estimated that there are 112,000,000,000 barrels of oil in the ground, and that is only what we know about.
I figure since we went over there and are still there, why not add more protection to the oil facilities, start a job program like we did in the 30s during the depression but do it with oil. This will jump start their economy, the people will start making money at their jobs, be happier with their lives, tolerate the terrorism less, and start selling oil around the world.
More oil on the market, means more competion, means lower prices.
Meanwhile, have Congress start mandating percentages of power (i.e. California Power 20% Solar, 20% Wind, 20% Natural Gas, 20% Nuclear, 20% Fossil Fuels). Something similar to the Clean Air acts. Over time, the standards tighten, technology is forced to work on new, greener ways of supplying power, and in 100 or so years we are weened off of fossil fuels, which is about the time Iraq’s oil will run out.
It’s all very simple.
Under a previous topic I see that Mr. Bill Fahy promises to give us the whole uncensored TMZ type story about Fox & Friends! When will we be reading this untold story, or will it be out in paperback first?
Why can they sell gasoline in Mexico for $2.50 a gal. when we can’t sell it for under $4.00, and some countries in Europe can’t sell it for under $7.00? I’d like to see a comparision between the countries showing who gets what from each gallon in each country.
If we were to just say “Okay, we the United States are now committed to drilling for oil off our shores and inland so we will never be reliant on imported oil again” this would immediately have a worldwide impact. It would automatically force Canada, Mexico, Opec and Venezuela to come to the table. Most, if not all of them would increase production and the price would go down dramatically. They would get the message that we are America and we can and will do this. But our politicians, who aren’t just part of the problem, they ARE the problem won’t get together and do this. Most of them are slaves of the environmental mafia and don’t have the decency, honesty and courage to tell these enviro”mental”ists that they are wrong.
Yes. Drill here and do it now, even in ANWR. Drilling can and should be done in a responsible manner. As others here have said, the problem is not only the supply of crude oil but our ability to refine it into motor fuels. The supply of crude actually is right in line with current demand. Just the announcement the the U.S. will begin a massive drilling initiative will have a desired effect on the overall crude markets.
The environmentalists have demanded over 25 different blends of fuels to satisfy local and state environmental regulations that have placed demand on refineries that are already stretched to capacity. A refinery has to run in the high 90’s in terms of efficiency and capacity to make any margin at all. The environmentalists have also blocked applications or at least made regulations so onerous that we’ve not built new refining capacity in 30 years. We’ve only to blame ourselves for electing these nut cases to Congress in the first place.
I do believe in the development of alternative sources of energy. However, none have proven economically viable yet. Research should continue. I’m not all that worried about my kids future in terms of energy availability. I’m worried about next month and next year if we don’t do something now.
What were you saying to the camera(man) before the show today at 3:59AM. ?
glad you are back!
most oil drilled here,as i understand it, ends up in another country. I say drill and build new refineries but allow drilling only if the oil stays in america. however we MUST develope an alternative fuel. Oil cant and wont last forever.
Yes drill away
We need to drill our on oil. Get away from depenance on middleastern oil. Someone needs to put a harness on the furtures stocks guys, they are a big part of the problem!!!! Money/ Greed.
Larry
Definitely drill closer to home and if that means tapping into Alaska, then so be it. I don’t want one cent going to terrorists and there’s just no sure way to know for sure, unless we provide our own crude oil……………………………..Tree huggers, SHUT UP!
I’ve been riding my bike to and from work for over six months now. I sometimes take publich transportaion and aside from trips on weekends for golf or groceries, I just hoof it and don’t drive when I don’t have to.
I’m fortunate that I live in a wonderful area that has a wonderful climate and allows me to walk or ride my bike. I’m losing weight, I feel better, I’m playing the best golf of my life, and I think I owe it to gas prices going sky high here in the SF bay area because it forced me into these changes.
But there is no excuse for us not being able to provide our own energy resources, we have to stop relying on foreign oil, we’re vulnerable this way.
What do you think of HR 6107?
The President should declare a national economic emergency and by his authority set aside the laws, rules, and regulations that have prevented us from accessing our own proven reserves. And as one commentator suggested, the President should announce the immediate release of 1/2 of our Strategic Petroleum Reserves which would have the immediate effect of punishing the speculators who are said to be driving the price of a barrel of crude up. They would lose millions of dollars almost overnight. These two things would show the world that the U.S. is serious about energy and the American dollar.
Too many people think that if we just wave our majic wands and assert that we will drill prices will tumble . Not a chance. The rest of the world has discovered capitalism and its benifits. What we say will do nothing to ease demand. We need to drill. For now treat ANWR as a dead horse and focus on where we can increase production in the shortest amount of time. The new field under North Dakota, Montana, and southern Canada is one such place.
We can do three things there simultainously: drill, build a number of refineries, and construct a pipeline(s) to merge into our existing system. We can also build year round, something we can’t do in the Artic
In short, do what we have a chance to do, not what we can argue about.
A do-nothing congress has done everything possible to make us think this is the present adminstrations fault. I don’t buy that! ALSO
Sometime McCain comes across as “wishy-washy”. And sometimes B.O. comes across as simply too hateful.
So much depends on their running mates–who, I hope will be just that, “Mates”! People who will contribute, intelligence…………..
hi alisyn
glad you are back and feeling better the show is just not the same when you are not there
regarding drilling and refineries if all we do is talk about it nothing gets done if we would have started building refineries when all this was started they would be in operation by now so now we have to wait again and see if some intelligent person understands this we need to drill her anwar or off the coast or wherever the oil is and we must start building refineries NOW not talk it to death
there is no short term answer but drilling and building refineries in my estimation is the way to go
Yes, we must drill–what is Congress thinking of? It seems as if they WANT to make us dependent on foreign oil–I can’t understanding their reasoning–so called.
While off shore is a choice, there is a question: how many shipyards have the capability and spare capacity to build the rigs? One more, what is the build out time for a off-shore rig?
OPEC charges the United States $134.00 for a barrel of oil, the United States charges OPEC $7.00 for a bushel of grain, Let’s play by their rules and charge them $134.00 per bushel of grain and see if the price of oil doesn’t come down! I suggest as the price of oil comes down so will the price of our grain!
Hi Alisyn, yes, why don’t our representatives start thinking more like the people they represent. the majority of Americans are in favor of drilling off our coast and in Alaska. When we purchased Alaska, we did so for its resources—remember. Judy
Whose land is it anyway? Doesn’t it belong to the American people. Aren’t the American people sick of paying through the nose and our country is no further along with any type of drilling project that it will still be years before we can see a single barrel of this black gold. I am so sick of hearing people talk about protecting the polar bears and the pristine environment of Alaska. Guess what – the terrorist Muslims that are holding us hostage to their oil don’t give a fat rats -ss about the bear or land. They have made this clear by ravaging their own homeland and killing their own people. Do you think that they will respect ours? Why shouldn’t we drill what is ours. I am not saying to destroy the environment and all that it encompasses. Duh people its like having a beautiful garden and a hungry family but you won’t pick the veggies because it will disturb the bugs. You would rather your family starve than do something that might be interpreted as politically incorrect. Get real these times are publically incorrect. The Al Gores of this country need to wake up.
We know that the auto makers and others are trying all different type of alternative fuel. I beleive that something is going on behind the scenes that we do not know about, which is going to replace or require less gas in our cars subatantialy much quicker then the oil companies would like to see.
Much is already in the works, but I think we need to drill where ever we can and as soon as we can!
Ray
Oil used for power will be always in demand. Whether we drill for it here or not , the whole petro- chemicals industry needs oil to manufacture many products we all use .(plastics /solvents/ drugs/ medicine/ ink/ glue/lubricants etc! etc!
Simply suggesting electric powered vehicles as an alternative, is simplistic, since to generate electricity, we must use oil gas or coal.(There is no free lunch) Hydro electric generation, while not dependent on oil, only furnishes a small part of our energy.
The ‘enviromental cases’ who stymied nuclear power plants/ oil drilling/refinerys/ electricity generation/ pipe lines, etc!,etc!,have unwittingly(or, by design,) hog tied our courts, our industry, and our economy and with political correctness and Global warming scares have reduced our citizens to third rate mind numb robots.
Our congress , Hollywood and our left leaning media have created a perfect soviet state to shackle our children and grand children to a life of Marxist collectivism.
ED FROM CT.
Alysin…
I am home now and hope you are still getting a little rest in between everything you do all day.
Mike M…yes, we allllllllll need to support the Red Cross. Thank you for the reminder. Please resend me the video. I get soooooooo much spam stuff, I think it got deleted by accident! Yikes…I am not as accomplished as I should be I guess!!!! Went back to find it, and couldn’t. Thanks
No Brainer – Drill!! OPEC is charging the United States $134.00 dollars for a barrel of oil, The United States is charging OPEC $7.00 for a bushel of grain, lets get on the same playing field as OPEC charge them $134.00 for a bushel of grain and see how the price of oil drops. As the oil price drops so would the price for a bushel of grain!!
It is NOT the answer…but is a step in the RIGHT direction.
Doing NOTHING is only making us more crippled. Watching other nations tell us that they are or are not going to increase production is ridiculous.
Then, being at the mercy of the weather in our hurricane season and wondering if one or more of our very few refineries are going to be wiped out?
Environmentalist junkies need to take a step back.
Building new and better functioning refineries, coal fired plants and nuclear facilities are also an answer to our oil issues.
Functioning on old, tired, dirty and costly refineries and power plants are costing this nation a fortune in money and in pollution.
COMPRIMISE is an issue…but the environmentalists will not comprimise at all.
I think the reason our congress drags their collective feet is because they’re lining their pockets with kickbacks. Does anyone really believe that our political figures act in our best interest? We aide nations that have some type of benefit to us, we won’t help nations that have nothing to offer us. Who should we blame for all of our energy woes? Politicians, all of them, democrats & republicans alike because they’re all in bed together.
Our politicians are to blame for the majority of our troubles, remember that when voting next time. If they don’t have our best interest at heart, then we don’t need them as public officials.
Well since we are already in the middle east and our men and women are dying over nothing, maybe we should just march up to Saudi Arabia and take what we need. I mean we are the military super power and seem to fight wars over nothing, why not fight a war that will benefit everyone instead of just the powers that be.
Also we should go to work immediately building our own refineries, and pumping our own oil and processing it. Have you seen what they are paying for gas in the Middle east? Or perhaps what they are paying for gas in South America? Something is wrong there. If we were to build our own refineries not only would it eventually help us on our gas prices but would as well create jobs and help us as a whole.
It’s obvious that any energy plan must include:
Drilling
Nuclear
Cleaner coal plants
Wind
Ongoing research on solar
Conservation.
Everyone complaining about 4 dollar gas is guilty of creating the problem by voting for idiots who won’t let us extract our our domestic resources, driving guzzlers etc..
Now we are beholden to oil producing countries who hate us.
I’m actually GLAD that gass is $4. I hope it goes up to $10. Then the American people and politicians will get off their a$$es and take the action that should have been taken 10 yrs ago. We always seem to wait unbtil a crisis because the avg American can see past next week.
Social Security and Medicare are other upcoming crises that if addressed now, would not be the disaster they eventually will be.
Every congress ( for the last 30-35 years ) has stood in the way of this important effort to protect their overly fat wallets ..This congress is just as corrupt as the preceeding groups…. “Little Nancy and Sluggo Reid”,I will have to ad mit are a little more disgusting than most……..
ANWAR is not the answer it is just one of the answers…..
Yes, Le’s start drilling fifteen years ago.
Peter, please don’t wish for $10 a gallon. I drive approximately 110 miles a day to get to and from my job. That means I use about 1 1/2 tanks of gas per week. To cut back on gasoline, I rarely make unecessary trips, I don’t use my car air conditioner much even though I live in the dessert. The cost of gasoline reduces my ability to purchase other commodities. Currently I am supporting 2 other adults and 2 children. And I make probably far less than you. Do the math.
We should take all the oil out of Iraq while we are there and then do some slant drilling into Iran!!!!
I dont think we should tax the big oil companies, it will just make the problem much worse. I think we should try and drill more here in the US, also in ANWR. I am all for it as long as its done in a responsible manner, and doesnt harm nature and wildlife. Another temporary solution would be to increase the number of biodiesel plants, its all natural, anybody can do it, they just need the proper equipment, and its a good way to use old cooking and frying oil.
ANWR is part of the answer, expand drilling there. The rest of the answer is drill, drill, drill, here in the US and expand coal and nuclear energy. Use oil shale and build new refinerys.
The most usefull remedy would be to get rid of congress and allow no more than two terms, then send them home.
Let’s charge the OPEC countries $134.00 a bushel for wheat. this message was brought to you by Canada, Russa, Ukraine and any number of other wheat growing countries
Ah Jman…over nothing? grab the oil from? Well, you are just cross aren’t you? And you are qualified to decide that, huh. Hummm…I am sure my nephew thanks you, as does my brother, and my father…and all those who have fought for your right to come on this blog and be just, well, so stupid. My my…and oh my. I guess you could have said the same thing in German perhaps…OH! that’s right…wouldn’t be sayin nuttin honey if that were the case perhaps??
I would agree with, however, that we should be drilling and refining our own oil, and should have never stopped it would seem, and we could/would, all agree with that.
Jman…you may need a course on History of the USA, perhaps. lol
Gee- what more can be said? I gotta start checking this blog earlier than 4:00 pm!
Rather see us drill ANWR than the gulf…..even if it is on Florida’s less attractive side…
Senator McCain is dead wrong and so are the Democrats. We can drill in ANWR without adversely affecting the environment. We should be drilling in all areas where oil is known to exist. It is a national problem and should be a national decision, not a state by state issue. Come on McCain, wake up. Dems say we can’t drill ourselves out of this crisis. They maybe right. But, each barrel we produce locally saves $140 from going to OPEC. Some of that money undoubtedly supports terrorists trying to kill our soldiers and other Americans (not to mention hurting our economy). Congress should be ashamed for that position. So should the presenditial candidates.
Obviously, we should be exploring all other alternative methods for conserving oil and moving towards oil independence.
hello?!
this country is not in any trouble due to the citizen and intelligent minds that live within these borders, as proven by the many folks to write in to this blog. There is clearly a resolve within the people and we would not be in such dire staights if we tapped into the minds of the many Americans that do have viable solutions for our troubles…………….but throw in a government and blam! We the people are okay, its our government that is failing us desparately.
Hello, I am a 20 yr old college student and new to the issues that face our country. I am fed up with arrogant, selfish republicans. I am not liberal, i listen to both sides of the argument. Why doesn’t anyone point out that we drive huge german cars with poor gas mileage. Our trade deficit and energy dependence is in part thanks to this fact. Americans have no sense of self sacrifice, especially the rich elite. If Americans started to drive smaller cars and conserved energy, prices could go down. Yet nobody in our Rich country is willing to drive a small car. People are so obsessed with themselves, our ancestors will loathe every American unwilling to change for the betterment of the country.
There does not exist a “the answer”. There is a multifacited answer which cannot possibly exclude nuclear power and extracting added supplies of our own oil from our own lands and coasts — as well as from ANWR which is a parcel the size of a major metropolitan airport. Amazing what idiotic solutions are proposed by many politicians; e.g., US control of foreign stock and commodity exchanges, or banning all futures trading, or banning all speculation, etc.
Insane
Cheers,
Drilling NOW is the answer! Obstructionists in the Congress will try to stop this under the guise of protecting the Earth. This will be remembered on Selection Day! The Earth does not need protecting. If the Earth wants humans out, Humans will be out. Ask the poor folks in Iowa. The Sun is the cause of Global Warming and the current solar cycle ends in 2012. Then starts Global Cooling. Its a cycle that is as old as the heavens. Ofcourse there always has to be people screaming that the sky is falling. Right AL Gore?!
Sure we need to not trash the planet but these folks have gone over to the absurd.
Drill Now and lets put OPEC out of business. They don’t want that and that is why they are increasing output at this time.
Additionally, Wall Streeet should be banned from trading in petroleum futures.
About the oil issue, we need to drill offshore and in Alaska. If this had been done in the
Carter era, what a difference we would see now. Also, we need to quickly turn to
alternative fuel sources. We need to wake up our Congress, they are asleep.
Alisyn, you may look good in purple, but you could see up to your ………
I have stopped watching you guys, because Fox and Friends , at least the girls, are
showing more and more of themselves. Maybe you do this to get the rating, but
believe me, what goes up can come down.
May God open your eyes,

Yes indeed!!! Drilling what we have is the answer. Now, if someone will just explain it to those nitwits in Congress, we can begin.
We need to do away with the laws that started this whole mess of us not drilling for our own oil. The “tree hugger envrionmentalists” got hold of the Democrat party, and some RINO’s, and once they got the ball rolling we went from somewhere around 83% American oil to now, I believe, around 55 to 60% foreign oil. It’s not the oil companies who got us into this mess, IT’S OUR OWN GOVERNMENT!!! There are BILLIONS of barrels of oil in ANWR, offshore, and the shale in the Rocky Mountains. Yes, as someone pointed out, it will take years to get this oil to market, but in the meantime we can be working simultaneously at finding other methods of fueling electricity and our vehicles. It may not solve the problem but it sure as heck won’t hurt it. The sooner this country gets to drilling and building refineries, and switching to nuclear, solar, and wind power, the sooner the prices start to drop and the sooner we become independent from other countries insofar as depending on them for our fuel needs. Something to think about, if the Middle East decides to shut off our current oil supply, you better have a bycicle handy. If not watch the price of them skyrocket. We did it to ourselves by placating a group/groups of people who, other than reading in books don’t know “squat” about living off God’s land. Time to move out of the city and learn where vegetables and meat come from. Furthermore it might be a good idea to learn how to grow and harvest your own veggies and meat. Might not be quite as easy as going to the nearest supermarket. Hello? Lights on, anybody home?
Let’s drill where we can and let the oil companies build refineries with their profits. I know the environmentalists say”not in my back yard” but there are plenty of unoccupied deserts that could be used.
On a different subject, why does Wm.”waders” Lajeunesse stand in the middle of really stinky water to do his reports? I know French people aren’t really brilliant but they should be smarter than that.
By the way, welcome back.Lookin’ good!
I hope the people who are complaining are the ones who elected these CLOWNS. The CLOWNS in Washington dont make the decision to drill or not, They only get in the way with excessive legislation. I used to believe this was a free country.
A few years back we had a big fire 400,000+ acres here in Arizona. We could have saved some but the “tree huggers” wouldn’t let the forest service thin the forest. I don’t think it matters if McCain is the pres or Obama, those bunny/tree huggers will block any drilling no matter what state! Don’t we already have a big oil reserve stock piled? Plain fact is we need more refineries.
make a contract with the oil companies to cut the prices in 1/2 or better than drill. otherwise they will continue to inflate the price while getting the oil from our own land. The Saudi’s are going to keep the price high in order to share the wealth with our american owned companies. Bush walks around holding hands with the king of the same people who attacked our country and does not pressure them to get the gas price back down. The sooner he is out of office the better for the country

Hello to the lovely Alisyn
Love your show and watch it everyday from the land down under……It is really strange for me to hear this debate as the Australian public discussion has moved past the “don’t listen to the crazy climate changers” (we don’t need convincing as our climate challenges are bigger, more frequent as each year passes).
A question that gets asked when having the nucleur debate here is, will you be happy to have a nucleur plant in your back yard? The other issue for nucleur in Australia is the environmental impact of running the plants (in particular the huge amount of water needed)
Hurry up our great American mates……………….you don’t need to keep buying into the oil addiction by drilling……we want you to be a world leader again………don’t go backwards.
Good morning Alisyn:
I see you have RFK, Jr. on your show. It is politicians like him that have nearly bankrupted my family. I watched as his uncle left Duke Medical Center in his HUGE black SUV. Then he flew home in his PRIVATE jet, and then went out on his YACHT. His trip used more fossil fuel than we use in an entire year. How did RFK, Jr. get to your studio this morning? By limo?
I go to work and back, and I combine my trip home and grocery shopping. I haven’t taken a vacation since 1990, and we do without the A/C at home because we need the money we would spend on the electric bill to buy gas to go to work. I pay my bills online. And this past year, I took my girls to school on my way to work. This is all because of the environmentalists, who have made the environment their “god”, has effectively made it impossible for us to become energy independent. I believe in being good stewards of the earth, but this entire “global warming” bit is ridiculous.
I have nothing against the Kennedy’s wealth, but until the practice what they preach to the rest of us, well, they can shove their environmental, hypocritical crap where the sun doesn’t shine.
The Democrats blame all of this on Bush, but it’s funny, because that was one of the reasons the Dems were elected to Congress, to reduce the high cost of energy. Since they’ve taken over Congress, the price of everything has nearly doubled. We cannot afford the continued increase of fuel. So, I blame the Democrats for nearly bankrupting my family.
I have a car motor design that will break though through to the future and it can be put in truck’s as well as small cars three weld bike maybe as Weill and it is powerful motor with talks an even disproportion though out rpm more talk more disputation power to weight at a higher rpm ! = smooth flowing acceleration move = motor will sound like a electric bus together with the sound of a straight incline six cylinder it is half petrol and ethanol or diesel powered and half electric running as one unit at one time.
Gini,
What video are you asking me to resend you? I didn’t send a video to anyone.
Good Morning Alisyn,
You gave us a scare missing the opening shot. Thought you had a relapse and were going to be out sick.
Was a relief to see you were there.
The debate between Robert Kennedy jr and Mike Gallagher was interesting this morning. It would have been more interesting if Mike could have held his tongue and not tried to talk over Robert. Note to Mike Gallagher, loudest doesn’t equal correct on a topic.
Was interesting to hear Robert Kennedy jr talking states rights. Seldom a topic we hear from someone on the left.
I would have liked to hear more from Robert Kennedy jr and his ideas for what to do. We know all of Mike Gallagher’s ideas; drill, drill and more drilling. We are going to need more than that. When Mike Gallagher is willing to store nuclear waste in his backyard I will begin to seriously consider his arguement about it being safe.
It would be nice to see Congress spending the $900 million spent last year and this on subsidizing European gas prices instead on helping US citizens save and produce our own energy. How about encouraging solar water heaters? Cheap, easy and very cost effective. The water heater is one of the top energy costs in US homes.
I would like to comment on June 18 interview with RFK Jr. about alternative energy sources. I wish someone had asked RFK Jr. why his Uncle Ted Kennedy inserted amendments into wind power legislation to effectively kill the largest wind power project in the country that was to be built in Boston Harbor, overlooking the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port. It was very hypocritical to support alternative energy projects, as long as it is not in my backyard.
Good Morning Allisyn:
During your absence Brian made an honest, startling announcement when it was time for the news. Steve said that “Allisyn is not here today and so Brian and I will be doing the news!” Brian responded that, “Yes, it takes two men to do the work of one woman!” That’s probably the first honest thing (well maybe) I’ve heard Brian say for the past 10 years. (Just kidding, Brian) It was a nice complitment to you, however.
As to drilling off shore and in ANWAR, it should have begun many years ago. Congress is a fault for this and Clinton for denying drilling in ANWAR years back. Congress, combined with the special interest groups like the “Greenies”, have, unfortunately, stripped clean the pocketbooks of middle America. The entire Country has been hurt and hurt badly. Couple this disaster, with the natural disasters happening in the middle of the Country, the housing bubble and the “Earmarks” that Congress so loves, and things don’t look too good to the average taxpayer. It’s no wonder most Americans are angry. Every morning when I wake up I here about some member of Congress spending more money in one day than most
people make in a year. Then there is Gore, flying in his private plane, using 23 houses worth of energy to run his private house, the Kennedy’s with all their SUV’s. I don’t deny these people the right to live like this but, if that’s the way they choose to live, they should refrain from dictating how the rest of us should live. There is not one of them that is aware that we ship BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to the middle east, each day, for the privelige of paying $4.15 per gallon of regular.
And, while I’m at it, Obama scares me to death. I live in Michigan and our lady, socialist Governor mirrors, somewhat, Obama’s belief. Michigan is in deep trouble. I’m afraid The Good Old USA might be headed for the same black hole if he were elected.

PS: It was a rotten deal to take E. D. off the air!!!
The current policies on drilling and nuclear energy sre bringing this country to it’s knees. Kennedy has his own agenda and it is not to put this country’s goog before his own goals. That Gallagher guy was right on. Good for him taking on that creepy Kennedy. Aly and Brian looked terrified of creepy Kennedy.
We need to allow the oil companies to drill for more oil in current fields, then lessen restrictions and give some tax breaks to companies who build new refineries and finally open the fields in Anwr and allow more drilling off the coast of Florida. For goodness sakes China in drilling off of our coast and I am sure they don’t have near the technology or ability to drill for oil the we do.
We should absolutely be drilling – not only in Anwar but off the Gulf coast as well – and why not in the Dakota’s. We need to stop pandering to environmental groups and do what is needed for our country.
Drilling needs to begin in Anwar AND off the coast lines – we absolutely need to put America’s needs ahead of the greenies and caribou for a change. I live in the mountains of Montana and believe me – the wildlife have adapted to human invasion. The deer and wild turkeys are so stressed out from our presence that they eat the meals on my front lawn. The caribou of Anwar will adjust!
I personally believe that the environmentalists need to take some responsibility for the fuel crisis. America is rich with natural resources and it’s time we started developing those sources instead of depending on foreign fuel. Look at the jobs alone that it would create. It’s time for the silent majority to stand up and ROAR at the government to start immediate action.
Drilling for oil in Anwar and off the cost will only be a short term solution but it will cause the rest of the world (oil rich countries) to wake up and understand that we are tired of depending on foreign oil to get us by. It is no means the solution to our problems as we have to also explore alternative energy sources to offset the demand for crude oil. Once it is understood by the rest of the world that we are serious about not depending on the oil rich countries then the price of oil will recede.
Our biggest mistake was not persuing alternative energy sources after the 70’s oil crisis. That was 30 yrs ago and we would not be dependant on the mid east oil now had we opened our eyes then. It is time to quit taking an and get serious as it will not happen overnight.
Senator Obama has stated that more drilling will result in “only a few cents” per gallon drop in the price of gasoline. I believe he is sorely mistaken (as he is about many things). I believe by this country just seriously discussing drilling here and creating new refineries will have the effect of OPEC reducing the price of a barrel of oil. Then, lets don’t just talk about it, we need to do it!
Good afternoon Allison,
Senator Obama has stated that drilling in this country will result in only ” a few cents” decrease in a gallon of gas. I believe him to be dead wrong (as he is on many topics). Just by merely having serious discussions about drilling in the U.S. and building new refineries will have the effect on OPEC reducing the price of a barrel of oil. Now instead of just talking about it, we need to do it! The politicians, both Republican and Democrat, have done this country and its citizens a great disservice by not lifting the moratorium on drilling years ago.
I say to hell with congress. That is the reason this country is in the shape it is in now. We have to many old farts in power that have been there way to long. There should be a term put on congress and senate. The powers that be are driving this country straight into the ground, soon we will be the next third world country.
Hi Allison,
I now know why drilling in ANWR was prohibited. There was a show on late one night about this oil man who thought he found a way to distribute oil affordably. He purchased the oil in Alaska and when it was tested it was full of water. He did so investigating on his own and even employees came to him quietly and told him that Exxon, Chevron and all other oil companies up there had removed the safety features that protected water from contaminating the oil plus all safety features for the ships that carry the oil all to save money. Employees risked their jobs to come to him because even they new it was wrong. After finding this out this oil man went to Washington to warn the politicians that a major accident could happen if not corrected. Sure enough the Exxon Valdez oil tanker ruined Alaska for decades to come. Yet they tried to say it was the captain of the ship’s fault for the accident. Exxon hired Wackenhut Security to watch him, stole his trash to try to find out who was giving him his information. Wackenhut even went as far as to set up a dummy company saying they were lawyers trying to help him. They tried to pay him for his info and when he would not take the money they stole files out of this oilman’s house during a meeting there. Exxon was successful in finding out one of the oilman’s informat. This man was a few months away from retirement and they fired him. This oilman was not out to make money on this but to expose just how corrupt the oil company’s were all for the sake of making more profits. The oil companies do not care about protecting the environment only making more money. I know all companies must make money to stay in business but they have a responsibility to protect our environment too. So when the govenment say’s no to drilling in ANWR it is because they probably know that if we did something like this might happen again.
I know we need to drill but do it carefully with all safety precautions and watch those oil company’s like a hawk. We need to be more self-sufficient and start now. We won’t see results right away but do it for our children’s children.
Hi again Allison,
I remember back in the 70’s when my mom and I would sit in gas lines 2-4 hours just waiting to get gas, that was horrible. You had to plan your day around getting gas. I am glad that we do not have to do that, well at least not yet anyway. I know gas is high but can you imagine going thru that again, people would really be mad. I have never forgotten those days and I still plan my trips running errands and make every mile count.
The american auto industry has had all these years to change their vehicles so that they would get better mpg but they have not come close to what Honda has made the Civic get. American car mfg’s think if you get 25 mpg that is great . My 17 yr old Civic is still getting 34 mpg on the highway and 32 in the city. What does it take to make the car mfgr’s realize that they must do better. I wanted to buy american but Honda had them beat hands down. I am in the retail bicycle business and we are selling bikes and baskets like crazy. More and more people are wanting to ride their bikes to work to save on gas.
Tell all your viewers to get a bike from a bicycle shop so that they can get the right size bike for them.
Wal-Mart, Target and places like that have only one frame size on one wheel size to sell so if you are really tall or really short they will not fit properly on the bike. We cater to families with good quality but affordable bikes. You don’t have to spend alot on money just get properly fitted. We even offer one year of unlimited free adjustments on the bike too. Most bike shops have affordable bikes to offer the customer and they are better built by true bike mechanics. Discount stores hire anyone off the street to slap a bike together and then people come to us and wonder why the bike does not work properly. We have even seen new bikes come in with the fork on backwards and nothing adjusted. People should not feel intimidated about coming in to a bike shop, it is not just for racers but ordinary people too. I like to educate people about all the new bikes that are out there for casual riders without spending a fortune. Out least expensive recreational mtn bike is $220. You can spend more that that now for a bike in Wal-Mart and get NO SERVICE after the sale.
Sorry for the double post…..thought the first one didn’t go through.
why is this important?
We’re being held hostage,by both opec and the Democrats, and we’d better wake up and start drilling wherever we can until an alternative fuel can be established
It was hard to believe how much Fox and Friends allowed RFK Jr. to get away with. Iceland is a totally different situation. A ready supply of geothermal energy with a much smaller population meaning fewer cars and less energy needed. Is not Brazil currently destroying the vital rain forests to be able to both grow food and fuel? Not the best of solutions would you think?? Nuclear Power not safe? Trust the Insurance companies?? When was the last time you heard of a accident in the U.S.? In France? Last I heard it was not the Insurance companies holding up nuclear plants. Drilling for oil is a states rights issue? My understanding is that the energy crisis is a national issue. A good way to pass the buck and do nothing.
The energy crisis will not be solved by doing nothing or just by nuclear power and more drilling. It is a multifaceted problem and will require a sensible overall energy strategy.
From Sam G. , Georgia. USA
I just dropped in from Gretawire to say hello to you folks and see high energy prices are a hot topic over here also. I have been posting the suggestions below for quite some time on Greta’s blog and thought I would share them with you folks over here. Thank you all for your time.
I have said all along there are some things we can do to lower prices at the pump both short term and long term.
1. Get off the oil companies back and keep their incentives to find more oil here at home. They just might turn out to be our saviors. Their profits are no more obscene than Microsoft or many of the farmicutical companies. Their net profits are lower than many fortune 500 firms.
2. Immediately rescend all government mandates for refining different blends of fuel for different parts of the country and different times of the year. This mandate adds much to the cost of fuel. The requirements could be reinstituted after the crisis passes.
3. Open all Federal lands to drilling as long as it is done in a safe manner. National parks could be exempted from this but that would be all. It would include lands with oil, oil shale and oil sands both onshore and off. Federal lands would also be made available for the development of wind, solar and hydroelectric development.
4. Expedite the paper work required by the various agencies that govern the building of new oil refineries. The people are smart enough to know if they want a refinery in their area and we should let the people decide. North Dakota has been a recent example of this.
5. Suspend the prohibitive requirements imposed by government regarding the construction of nuclear power plants. Begin to issue permits immediatly to the power plants that have been proposed.
6. Encourage the development of hydroelectric power. I would rather have power than I woud have concerne for a snail darter. We need to develop this power source and then let the Greenies worry about snail darters, wood peckers, and spotted owls. We ie. the American people, are being held hostage by a few enviromentalists.
7. Fund and encourage clean coal techonology and do it now. Use some of the earmark money to help pay for the development.
8. Encourage the development of alternative biofuels. Shell has been investing in techonology involving the use of algie to this end. There are many more interesting ideas out there. Hydrogen might just be the ultimate fuel.
9. Encourage and provide incentives for the continued development of wind and solar power.
10. Suspend all law suits regarding the enviromental intrests for at least 5 years. The courts could refuse to hear the cases or just continue them for an extended period of time.
11. Encourage companies and provide incentives to companies that come up with and implement fuel saving plans.
12 Provide incentives to the transportation companies to develop more efficient engines and vehiciles in general. Federal laws need to be relaxed in some ares of the transportation industry.
13. Balance the budget. A balanced budget will result in a stronger dollar making oil prices come down.
These are just a few of the things that we can do over the next few months to lower energy(oil)prices. If the country and the world see that we are serious about a solution to the problem it will result in an immediate reduction in the speculation that drives the market. It would also result in a stronger dollar and that would translate to lower prices. In the long run it would enable us to become truely energy independent.
The Barron
I drive 45 minutes each way to my work everyday. To fill my gas tank used to cost me $20.00 a week now it is close to $80.00. That means that at least 4 days (one for each week) I work I am working just to fill my gas tank. There are two refineries within an hour and 15 minutes drive from where I live and gas prices are just as high as anywhere else. So having a refinery in my back yard is doing nothing for me. Where that oil is going I have no clue. It sure isn’t going into my gas tank.
Also what is the big deal about oil drilling in Alaska? There has been an oil pipeline in Alaska for years. One more oil rig isn’t going to make that much difference. The oil flowing through the current pipeline didn’t just jump out of the ground and start flowing all by itself. In the 1970’s 2 of my Alaskan Native friends got $10,000 each for their land claims rights in Alaska supposedly because of the pipeline. I am happy that they received that money as it is about time our government paid the native Americans something for the trouble we caused them. So if it is refineries or oil rigs we need the government needs to loosen its purse strings again and help the USA not foreign countries with our gasoline needs. Keep our oil in the USA to benefit the USA. Those wind turbine things look pretty good to me too. For what the CEO’s of the BIG OIL companies and others involved in fuel uses are getting paid BIG BUCKS for what? They sure aren’t helping any of the everyday working people any. If it wasn’t for us everyday working people these CEO’s would be out of a job.
Those hybrid cars everyone is talking about. Send one my way and I will be happy to test one. I live in the suburbs and no longer drive on the freeway. I drive the back country roads. So one of those hybrid cars would get a good test drive. Please send me one ASAP.
Thanks for listening,
Elaine
I live one hour and 15 minutes away from two refineries. Local should be cheaper but I don’t see cheaper gasoline prices going into my gas tank. I drive 45 minutes each way every day to work. It used to cost me $20.00 a week to fill up and now it is $80.00. That is 4 days (one for each week) I work to put fuel in my tank.
The Alaska pipeline has been there for years supposedly pumping oil to the lower 48 states. There is a fuss about wrecking the environment if we drill in the Alaska wilderness. The current pipeline oil didn’t just jump out of the ground on it’s own. It was drilled first. If there was such a concern back in the 1970’s when that pipeline was built then it should have stopped then. We need that oil piped to
consumers in the USA not to some other foreign countries. Most of those other foreign countries could care less if we can drive to work, school, church and maybe even to the grocery store to buy food. They are greedy and take, take, take from us with nothing in return. So I say provide us USA people with our fuel needs and to heck with everybody else. After all Alaska is part of the USA unless my geography lessons were incorrect. I have traveled in 27 US states. In my travels through California and the mid-west I noticed many oil rigs pumping. Unless those rigs were set up just for show there should be some oil coming out of the ground somewhere.
The CEO’s of the big oil companies are getting paid huge salaries to provide us with efficient fuel for our transportation needs. Well, as I see it, for the salaries they are receiving they are doing a very poor job.
Alternatives to gasoline could be electric or hybrid cars. I would be happy to have one sent to my home and let me test it. I don’t drive on the freeway and I live in a very rural area. I do not abuse my vehicle and am a very safe driver. So PLEASE send me one of those new hybrids and I will be happy to give it a test run and let everyone know just how great an alternative vehicle would be to use. Just make sure the vehicle you send me to test can fit myself and my lunch pail comfortably. It would be tested on scenic country roads with the mountains on one side and the river on the other. That is the route I use everyday to go to work.
Thanks for listening.
In the early 1980’s it was reported that an American automobile manufacturing company purchased the patent for a carburator which could get 100 mpg. Almost 30 years ago the technology existed to substantially reduce if not totaly eliminate the energy crisis we are currently in. The auto manufacturers, oil companies and those with substantial investments in either or both have the American people exactly where they want them.
The Euporeans and British pay more for their petroleum products so they can support their socialist governments, ie., free health care, free child care, etc.
I’m curious, isn’t the issue of gas actually the “price”? Why are people, the politicians, and the media pushing for drilling in the US? Do people really believe that just because the oil is coming from local sources that EXXON will make a pleasant public announcement they are lowering the price? They have set the standard and enjoying profits, I doubt it.
Your network has yet to bring up this point, we are avoiding the real problem. The politicians have “put on a show” for the public with their Senate interviews and proven they are afraid of the O&G companies. So my questions, why don’t you address the real problem? Are the networks afraid of the oil and gas companies and traders like our politicians?
