Coffee Addicts, anyone?

Hi Everyone!    Sorry for the Demi Moore impersonation this morning I’m baaaaack (even if my voice didn’t make the return trip).  I lost it somewhere in Bellingham, Washington.  If you find it, drop me a line; I kinda need it..   It was 50 degrees and rainy (of course) every day of my visit.  I was there to meet my bestfriend’s first baby.  I guess between the chilly temperature and all the cooing, my voice vanished.  Since I can’t talk, let’s type!  Did you watch our Problem Solver segment with the coffee addict who drank 30 shots of espresso a day?  Can you say caff-EEEEEEIne?  Can anyone relate?  (this means you Virginia)  Feel free to send us some photos of yourself before and after photos your morning cup of coffee!  Click on the “Hit us with Your Best Shot” button on the top right side of your screen.

I NEED my first pot of COFFEE each morning!

Thirty cups…I drink that amount before Fox and Friends ends. A woman who talks for living…talked so much she losts her voice. Ear plugs anyone? Welcome back Alisyn…we missed you. You may talk too much but we still love you.

Coffee? Economy in a mess, gas averaging $4+ per gallon, inbred James Carville pushing Al (Da Bore) Gore for VP and we focus on coffee…………………

Oh, and have Steve take geography lessons in addition to the sensitivity training (Baby-hater)……LOL :)

San Francisco is not in the Pacific NW, LOL

Thanks for keeping many of us so “entertained.” ;)

Oh no, I thought we’d gotten rid of you. May we suggest you try a strong hot cup of coffee before you write every morning? Poured right over your head.

Glad to see you back, Ali. I liked the Brenda Vaccaro reference better than the Demi Moore one.

BTW, whatever happened to Greg Kelly as the fill-in anchor? My husband and I both liked him, and we rarely ever see him anymore. Don’t get me wrong–I like the judge too. Just wondering why Greg never fills in.

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

We always take the judge whenever we can get him. We get a fill-in anchor and free legal advice. Two for the price of one!

I’m drinking my first cup now.
I just watched the tsa full body scan segment and it’s sad that the pornographic aspect of the whole ordeal is the first reaction to it. Who wants to see an x-ray like image of a famous person? (Sick). I guess the fact that the images had to opaqued out tells you that the images are “revealing”, otherwise why would you block the private areas out. Our society is so sex crazed anyhow, so it doesn’t surprise me that there is so much resistance to this type of security change. I have no problem with it, but i’m just an average joe. So, if your famous, just opt for the pat down and we’ll read about you in the National Enquirer.

Coffee? Forget the coffee! 3 or 4 bottles of bourbon get me thru Fox and Friends just fine. It’s amazing how much easier it is to hear about the stock market going down or gas prices going up when the room is spinning!

Good morning Ms. Alisyn,

So nice to have you back. You were sorely missed.

I quit coffee when I quit smoking, I drink tea now.

But back in my service days working MP duty it was pretty normal for the two of us on the desk to go through 5 or 6 pots in the course of 8 hours.

Again, nice to have you back. Try sucking on a lime. I understand it does wonders for a bad throat.

Have a great day.

Coffee? You mean there are people who DON’T drink coffee? I have my first 2 cups with F&F and 2 at work. If I drink it after lunch I can’t sleep and my wife (my bestest friend) goes to bed alone! So I stay away later in the day……unless its cold outside!
Glad to have you back Aly – Get well soon….

Great to have you back, Ali (wedding ring & all). You look great this morning. You must have enjoyed your time off.

I drink 2 – 3 cups of coffee every morning, but nothing helps me as much as seeing you and Gretchen in the morning ;-)

Why do these political experts say that the candidate of “change” needs an old time Washington insider as a veep? Isn’t that a contradiction to his whole platform?

Welcome back Alisyn, we missed you!!

I think I could survive in the wild for a week without food as long as I get coffee.

BTW, loved the hulk McCain girl! Awesome.

Just as an FYI-that boy scout camp is literally in the middle of no where. It’s about 20 minutes on a back roads to get to it. The “building” that was there is closer to a stilt shack than a building. Let’s please make sure some yahoo doesn’t turn this tragedy against the scout leaders. These are amazing people that give of their time and sweat for the boys.

Just my two cents after three cups of coffee.

Welcome back Alisyn, we missed you!!

Coffee is more important then breathing.

By the way, that boy scout camp is literally in the middle of no where. Takes about 20 minutes on back roads to get to. The “building” that was destroyed is more of a shack on stilts than an actual building. Please work to make sure some yahoo does not turn this against the scout leaders. These are amazing people that do great work for the boys.

Just my two cents after 3 cups.

I think the Tyler judge went overboard on the stupid kid. He should get community service mopping the school floors and mandatory anger management sessions. 8 years in prison will turn him into a hardened criminal with no salvageable value.

Hope you’re feeling better, Alisyn…

When I was in the military, I’d drink a pot of coffee immediately before PT and one immediately after. I also used to shake constantly, was very irritable, jumpy, talked 88 mph, and used the bathroom ALOT. Now, I’m older and truly enjoy getting adequate sleep and not having to map out the bathrooms for a 30 minute drive.

But that’s just me…

Comment by Doug, Michigan

I start my day at 4:30 every morning and I have the coffee pot set for 3:30 to make sure its ready when I get up. I am at work by a little after 5 and drink at least another 20 cups before the day ends at 5 in the afternoon. I run a small manufacturing plant and in order to keep myself going for 12 hours a day I need my coffee. In the winter time I end my day at home with a cup of coffee and a shot of Southern Comfort to spice it up.

Is there some type of climate change or shift in the jet stream that is causing such drastic weather across the Midwest? Get some feedback from Rick, Janice or Domenica about that. Those poor people seem to be getting pounded every week.

Alysin,

JT…I absolutely agree with you regarding the Boy Scouts…my boys all went on these camp outs, and a tornado was not even on the list of things I might be worried about…a bear, a mountain lion, falling in the lake with alllllllll your winter gear on while fishing (that actually happened to #2 boy), but never a tornado. And we are devastated over this event. lol It is a miracle more were not lost. lol
Marshall..I agree with you and the judge did go overboard, unless there is more to the story. Let’s have a little justice, and not picking out of to make an example. That just makes me furious and flies in the face of reasonable response to an irresponsible event. There should be consequences, but this is ridiculous. lol

Thinking about the family reunion this morning, brought back some memories for me. I was a product of bad timing for a very young couple back in the early 50’s. The marriage could not survive all the things that typically undermine such unions. Soon, I was one of those rare things in the Deep South back in those days that lived in a broken home.

After the divorce I only remember a very few times when my dad spent any time with me and that would usually lead us to his favorite bar. He would put me on a stool in front of a pinball machine and give me a handful of nickels. I would while away the time slapping at those silver balls, while he visited with the barmaids. Then one morning the scruff of his day old whiskers woke me. He said he would be leaving for a while to take a job across country, but would be back one day. He did come back several years later, but he made the trip wearing a pine box.

For year and years I idolized the man, just because he was my dad. I dreamed and dreamed that he would come back one day and we would all live the Ozzie and Harriet life. He became almost mythological in the recesses of my mind and I never questioned his actions.

When I was much older and had one baby on my shoulder while I watched two more sleeping, the realization that he had left us cold all those years ago came raining down upon my parental fatigue. I could take one look at my children and with out a doubt or question I knew I would willingly lay down my life for each of them and that I would also always be there for them when needed. At that moment, I woke from a dream I held all through my youth and came to terms with the foibles of parenthood.

Sorry for the ramble……. just traveling down that worn down path called memory lane…….

Alisyn: So good to see you back today. Coffee is an important part of my morning too. But that person is in danger of killing themselves. You can literally cause your heart to go into tachycardia and die from too much caffiene at one time. Hope they are careful.

I love my coffee. I always thought espresso had more caffeine then regular coffee. HMMM, lesson learned today, bring on the coffee and latte’s!!!!

Instead of coffee I’ll stick to my large sweet tea from Chick Fil A which comes after my Dr Pepper at lunch time! At least Chick Fil A is on my way home so it isn’t extra driving.

Working on my sixth cup of coffee….my hub makes it at 5 am and it’s a thermal type, so it stays really hot for hours.
Six is a little much usually, three is just right. After supper we’ll make a pop of decaff.

Blue mountain is our favorite and we grind is as we need it… special occasions, too pricey!
When ordering out, Panera bread has incredible hazelnut brew. MMMMmmmm

Alisyn, glad you had a nice trip… welcome back.

Welcome back, Alisyn.

I learned to drink coffee about 30 years ago and haven’t stopped. (Can I sue Juan Valdez?) Until recently I drank up to 3 pots (yes, 12 cup, POTS) of coffee each morning. Which wasn’t easy. Because I have this rule about not drinking coffee after 12 noon. ( I do have my standards. LOL. ) The good thing is I drink my coffee out of “mugs” as opposed to regular coffee “cups.” That way it isn’t 36 cups of coffee, its only about 12 mugs. (Isn’t metric math wonderful?)

Now I am down to one pot of coffee a day. Under my doctor’s direction. Go figure.

I am 34, and actually have never had coffee…Don’t drink soda, either. I guess I am really in the minority…

Espresso is made from a darker – longer cooked bean, it really has very little caffeine in comparison to lighter coffees.

Black coffee for me. It’s an aquired taste from Gulf War 1 and continued through Iraqi Freedom and continues today. I think the amount consumed is a personal preference.

I stick to three cups of coffee a day, and in the afternoon I drink tea. But you didn’t say what size cups. I think that a standard coffee maker measures cups in 5 oz. increments, but I haven’t seen a 5 oz. coffee cup in years.

Your conversation on unusual baby names reminded me of a story from Reader’s Digest that I read many years ago:

When the 1960s ended, San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district reverted to high rent, and many hippies moved down the coast to Santa Cruz. They had children and got married, too, though in no particular sequence. But they didn’t name their children Melissa or Brett. People in the mountains around Santa Cruz grew accustomed to their children playing Frisbee with little Time Warp or Spring Fever. And eventually Moonbeam, Earth, Love and Precious Promise all ended up in public school. That’s when the kindergarten teachers first met Fruit Stand. Every fall, according to tradition, parents bravely apply name tags to their children, kiss them good-bye and send them off to school on the bus. So it was for Fruit Stand. The teachers thought the boy’s name was odd, but they tried to make the best of it.

“Would you like to play with the blocks, Fruit Stand?” they offered. And later, “Fruit Stand, how about a snack?” He accepted hesitantly. By the end of the day, his name didn’t seem much odder than Heather’s or Sun Ray’s. At dismissal time, the teachers led the children out to the buses. “Fruit Stand, do you know which one is your bus?” He didn’t answer. That wasn’t strange. He hadn’t answered them all day. Lots of children are shy on the first day of school. It didn’t matter. The teachers had instructed the parents to write the names of their children’s bus stops on the reverse side of their name tags. The teacher simply turned over the tag. There, neatly printed, was the word “Anthony.”

Hi Alisyn,
welcome back but lets also say “thanks” to Patty Ann, she did a marvelous job filling in for you.

Coffee? Well, I’m always pretty much in a good mood but I definitely need a cup of coffee before I start my golf rounds on Saturdays (or any other day I play), I think it may be a mental thing here but I feel awkward if I don’t have it before I play golf. And since I play two rounds every Saturday, you can imagine the mental hardships that will affect my game if I don’t have my cup of JAVA in the am.
See you tomorrow morning!

Hi Alisyn, I must confess to being a coffee addict. I drink 8 to 10 cups per day, black. If I don’t get my coffe in I get a caffein headache. As soon as I pour down a cup of Joe, the headache departs. I must say I like my coffee, I buy it at a gourmet shop and it costs me $11 per pound. Ridiculous but I just have to have my java.

Comment by Brad

Welcome back Alysin. I wouldnt consider myself a coffee addict, but i have had my share of cups.

I usually would prefer having one of those 5 hour energy drinks, because you just take a little bit, it contains just as much caffeine as one cup of coffee, and it lasts all day, and it doesnt have the ingredient that causes you to crash and feel tired later. I have tried it several times, and i couldnt go through the day without it.

Red Bull, Rockstar, Monster, and all those energy drinks i would recommend you avoid them. I heard they can cause an irregular heartbeat.

That is really awful what happened to your voice. I hope you are feeling better soon. A saltwater gargle always helps me whenever i have a cold or scratchy voice. You can also try some ginger or even a cup of Celestial Sesonings herbal tea.

Take Care.

Welcome back, Ali. Sorry about the laryngitis.

After reading all of the above notes, it made me worry that if our Congresscritters read them and saw how much we enjoy (and some depend on) drinking coffee, they’ll either raise the taxes on it or ban it as an addictive drug. I have my one cup first thing in the morning, but it’s in a very large mug that is probably equivilent to 2 normal size cups. Add one Splenda and a little half-and-half and I’m set to go in the morning.

What’s coffee??

Seriously though … There’s more caffeine in coffee that’s been made on the stove (by boiling) or in a perculator … The amount of caffeine released is based on how much total time the ground beans spend in direct contact with the water AND what degree the beans have been roasted …

So, if you want seriously hopped up coffee … Use a greener bean (no French roasting for you) and put it in a perculator …

Espresso is strong, but not heavily caffeinated … because there’s more beans to water ratio …

Aly – WSDOT is reporting they found your voice on 542 tryin’ to dig its way up to Artists Point … ;-)

Three things about too much coffee:

1. It can you jittery.

2. It can make you feel like you’re
going through the roof.

3. It is only second to not having any
at all.
=========================
In the mornings I am not happy-
Until I have had at least one cup of
coffee.
