What should his wife do?

$80,000 dollars spent on hookers?  No wonder his wife is mad.  As if the crime itself isn’t bad enough, turns out Governor Elliot Spitzer is reportedly a repeat offender and he’s squandered tens of thousands on prostitutes during the past 10 years.   What should his wife do next?

Morning Ms. Alisyn,

I know what my wife would do, but we won’t do that in a family blog.

She should already be gone, but I think she is too tied to the power and fame to do so.

This woman’s stand reminds me of Hillary’s. The “stand by your man” bit would be kosher with me if the offenses were trivial but just like Bill Clinton, Spitzer is the same finger wagging, “how dare you”, holier than thou hypocrite and the women standing by this kind of men are more interested in the power these men have and its benefits. I wonder if Ms Spitzer is now charging her husband by the hour when standing by him in public! I definitely don’t buy her martyrdom nor do I think she’s doing it for the family.

First: check for STD

Second: Figure out where the hidden money is

Third: Get a better Divorce Lawyer then he

I’m a little depressed today. I found out Mary Ann is now 69 years of age, and a chain dubey smoker. Poor Maynard, I mean Gilligan.

She should divorce him and take the house, the kids and half his money.

Comment by SAMMY

G am Alysin,
Did he use his own money or was some of it coming from his expense report for office. Especially when the 1 went to DC? thanks

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Our understanding is that it came from his vast personal fortune — his family reportedly worth $500,000,000 dollars

Comment by Robert

While our LORD doesn’t condone divorce it is allowed for this one circumstance; infidelity. Better to forgive as we ourselves would want to be forgiven, providing he could truly be repentant. This of course is between him and the LORD.

Comment by Perry

I hope he gets the same treatment as he doled out whist he was a prosecutor. I also hope his wife takes him to the cleaners too.
The thing that really galls me are the politicos that are either helping make excuses or minimizes Spitzer’s actions blaming it on society. While the comment that society condones this type of activity, to just pass it off releases him of responsibility for his actions……not good.
Funny how its never mentioned about his being a democrat.
One thing I would investigate is where the $80k came from. My guess would be there was some government funds spent in some capacity……his transportation to meet her, room charges, security for her, etc.
Keep up the great work. I miss your the F&F show only occasionally, even though I am on the west coast. Can’t get enough of you….

Hi Allisyn,

I think she should leave him as well, but sadly agree with chas.
Once again a sex scandal with a politician will not allow me to watch the news, or listen to the radio while my 8year old son is around. Their behavior is far more reaching than just their family. What great exampes. But I think when you have career politicians that they just think they are untouchable.

Alisyn,

First time doing this and I have to say that I love it! I get up early like you, and apparently chas, watch the opening of F and F, drive to work and we watch you guys (fox) all day. We are junkies. Unfortunately, we can’t blog or any of that at work, my employer wouldn’t like it. Anyway, like I said this is great!

Like Chas, I know exactly what my wife would do, she would leave. Spitzers wife should leave also. I think it is a sad state of affairs in our country when the love of power and “status” become more important than our own morale fiber. If this has been going on for ten years, you would have to believe that she has known about this stuff going on before, and she stuck with him.

Overall, I think it is a sad situation. What is being done within the New York government while this is going on. Once again the taxpayers are paying for more than just what our taxes are supposed to go for.

Thanks,
JAK

I agree with Chas. Women like her (and Hilary) give good, strong women a bad name.

I’ve been there. My ex-husband of 20 years was CFO of a major company in San Francisco and had been involved in 900 number phone sex, chat rooms and finally joined a dating service (which I discovered Christmas day while looking for a receipt). The one point no one has made so far, is beyond the humiliation, the wife needs to get tested for STD’s. It is life altering and sometimes life threatning for the spouse.

Comment by Pat in Minnesota

Good Morning Alisyn,

My question is this….where did the $80,000 come from? I’m sure most of it was taxpayers money. Anyone in that position wouldn’t use their own money whether they admit it or not. So the question is, what should happen to him, if he in fact used taxpayers money? Maybe a little federal prison time would be a good idea. But, of course, the double standard applies. We can’t do that to out gov. officials.

He’s lucky I’m not in charge!

When comparing this situation to Hillary, think of how much more powerful she may have been had she dumped Bill. Men with power that do things like this and get caught carry that baggage a lot longer, and heavier, than the average Joe.

First time poster – this is wonderful! Thanks for doing this, Alisyn!

Besides checking for STDs as other posters have mentioned, she needs to distance herself as much as she can from him – not just for her own peace of mind, but to protect his daughters.

BTW, I’m in Illinois, and that state senator you had on this morning was a complete EMBARRASSMENT – but then, I’ve considered both Obama and Durbin as embarrassments as well.

Cheers…

This guy is a disgrace. He has three kids and a stupid wife. He should be a man and resign. These are the examples that Bill Clinton left behind for us. “It is OK to have this type of behavior and the public will forgive you”. Only in America.

Comment by amber mathis

while spitzer is being crucified for spending money on prostitutes.. fox news is also prosituting itself for ratings so one could safely assume that the 80,000 sptizer spent is worth a feew million for you..so i guess when one gets into bed with a prositute.. others benefit without the sexual pleasure

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Huh? I think when the Governor of New York considers resigning in a sex scandal, it’s called “news.”

Comment by Mark

Mrs. Spitzer should start charging him ten grand a pop!

Comment by Tracie

Who money was he spending? The rest is just a moral issue. I mean look t Thomas Jeffeon.

Comment by Debra Smith

PEOPLE, figure this out!!! 80K over 10 years, that’s 8 grand a year divided by 12. I remember back when I was dating and if a guy wanted the chance to get lucky with me it cost more than that! Dinner, a show, jewelry and that was just a chance, not every body got to close the deal. Women are deal breakers (ask Hillary). He had a sure thing and it cost him less than dating and yet in the end more than he wanted to spend.

Comment by Nick Francone

Good morning Alisyn, Silda Spitzer will do whatever her heart tells her to do. If she can forgive this (I don’t know how) and still can love him then she’ll will stay married to him. I KNOW what my wife would do but I can’t send that out on a blog.

Another thing, why should this idiot be “allowed” to use his governorship as a bargaining tool to stay out of jail? Since when is forfeiting your job adequate punishment for committing a crime? So I should rob a bank and when I get caught just tell the prosecutor “Oh, I’ll quit my job.” What has one to do with the other?

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

The judge said this morning that the state wants to avoid the cost of a trial and the spectacle of an impeachment. THat’s his bargaining chip.

Question is ….would YOU by a used car from the creep with the creepy frog in his throat? “Kick”? I’d love to! (does she have a sign on her back suggesting same?)

Comment by Barbara Rannazzisi

Whoever it is that says the wife needs to stand behind the husband is wrong. Most women would like to know that she more than angry at him and doesn’t want to be within a ten foot radius of the jerk. He should have had to stand alone and let the press have at him. She could then have sat at home, watched him on tv making up excuses for the pitiful human being that he is then she could have thrown things at his image on the TV screen and released some of the feelings she had. How sad for a man to think that he is above it all, he deserves all the ridicule that is thrown at him. Sorry do I feel for the three daughters –not only has he humiliated them to their friends and family but they now realize the man they have respected and honored is a fake — the girls should be given the privacy that they deserve as teenage girls but I doubt that the press will leave them alone, that is my only wish from this — however; I hope he gets all he deserves and then some.

Comment by andy stevens

As a former New Yorker(western NY) I always voted for the Republicans. I got a chuckle when I saw Spitzer was implicated in this Prostitute Ring. His wife needs to take him to the cleaners. I know, I shouldn’t be tickled by their misfortune, but just can’t help it. If she really is encouraging him to stay on as Gov. she must have taken her cue from Hillary.

Comment by Sully

Hey Guys.

Ya know the remarks by some commentators on the other shows kinda pissed me off yesterday. Everyopne asking why she was standing by his side etc…. one women was even saying that she should be thinking about her role as a women and how this would be perceived by the rest of women. Gimme a break.

This poor person has most likely just had her heart handed to her in the most public and brutal way you could , her 3 beautiful kids are probably in complete disarray. confused, blindsided and trying to catch up with the fact that their family will most likely never be the same. Her personal life, feelings and emotions are all tabloid fodder now and all someone is concerned about is how she will come across as a women in todays society.

We should be giving this person and her family a little space, privacy and well wishes for their current situation. Its not time for a political forum on empowering women. One of the 50+ leaders of this nation just let down our country in a huge way. In the aftermath he left victims. We should be comforting rallying and supporting those people. Not second guessing her decisions to do or not do something.

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Sully,
You have a great point. She’s not the one who engaged in the offensive behavior.

Divorce ASAP. Spitzer needs to step down. I don’t care about the hookers, but since his activity has been made public there is no way for him to continue in public office today. Maybe tomorrow. Look at Marion Barry. Anything is possible.

The woman ought to go on a $80,000+ spending spree of her own…….shoes, clothing, home redecorating, new car……and rub it in all in his face that he can’t stop her.

Come on, Alysin…..you gotta be down with that. Go on, girl!

$80,000 oh my gosh.. that is more money than many Americans make in a year.

She needs to leave… but before she does.. move as much of that money as she can into her own private account.

Can someone tell me why these stories go on for days? It was the same for Bret Favre when he retired. A week of programs about him, etc. Is there really anything new here? A politician that says one thing and does another. I’m reminded of the Dr. Jeffrey Pelt character in “The Hunt for Red October”, who said, “I’m a politician, and when I’m not kissing babies, I’m stealing their lollipops”.

his wife should take a hike; not only because he exposed her and his family to every disease known to mankind, but because he never cared for them enough to keep his tools in the shed!

remember, SPitzer is a superdelegate, and he is hoping beyond hope that Hillary gets the Dem nod; you had better bet he is stalling right now, because his only chance of keeping his law license AND staying out of jail and is negotiating a presidential pardon

I think if Spitzer has 80,000 to spend and she isn’t missing any money yet, if she leaves I think she’ll be just fine. Of course she could always turn into Hillary and stay with him and run for public office later.

I need to make my first statement clear. If it were a one time thing, my wife would not have so nasty a reaction, (though in truth I think I would deserve it).

The nastiness would come from the multiple infractions. Once is a mistake, more than that is an insult.

Have a great day.

chas
PS, sorry for the 2 entries. I’ll try to keep it to one a day in the future

Comment by Mike

She may be showing a strong public face now to get a better divorce package. His vast family fortune may be explaining this – she sticks with him and then they work out out a deal. If he crosses her again, he knows she will always be able to go to the media or write a book.

And none of us really knows the details. She may have known about this all along and been ok with it. There is just no way to know yet.

The foundation of any good marriage is trust. Spritzer went way beyond the trust boundary. Once you practice deception you give up your right to a marriage based on trust and in most cases can never get it back. This is more then just money and prostitutes, it’s deceiving your wife and family and diminishing their importance in your life. His wife should take the kids and leave. You reap what you sow.

Ali,

This behavior is pandemic. In fact, I think I know when it began. This virus first spread in the 1990s. One widely recognized cultural fact is that persons often immitate the behavior of the President. For example, many persons immulated JFK and Jackie. JFK’s promiscuity was keep secret by the press (when it was the press and not main stream media).

Slick Willie changed all that. He made this behavior fashionable and acceptable. Had the Senate completed his impeachment, this behavior would have been dealt a major blow.

I wonder how many families have been destroyed, how many children affected by immature Baby Boomers still stuck with the “Summer of Love” frame of reference.

It would be an interesting master’s or doctoral thesis on the impact of the Clinton behavior on the social fabric and the institution of the family.

This is another reason why the voting public does not want the Clinton’s in power. They should not have the opportunity to ramble through FBI files again. WJC should not be protected by the Secret service as he forays into the same climate as the “Emperors Club.”

BTW who will be the first to turn this into a Broadway play – a 21st Century version of “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”

I believe Ms. Spitzer should leave him for health reasons. How does she know he doesn’t have HIV from all of his call girl experiences. Ms. Spitzer is attractive and could easily find a man who appreciates and respects her and the children.

This is another example of a liberal telling everyone about “the right thing to do”. He was one of those misguided fools who knows what is best for everyone, however, he has exempted himself from his own rules. How can anyone trust him?

WHY do the women stay with their cheating husbands? Isn’t that a pretty Open Ended question? EVERYONE is Different and they do things for their Own reason. You will spends many wasted hours reporting on this without one exact right answer. Still, you KNOW of ALL these women that at least one of them Wanted to leave they cheating spouse, and you have to Assume most(all) of them considered doing it. Somebody has to do it, somebody has to Set THE Example. These weak minded women are giving bad examples by not following their hearts. If they leave him and after awhile want to return, that option will still be there. But to Stay by his cheating side when they are feeling so much hatred for what he did to not just her but their family and their image, for life….. the women are making a mistake. HELLO LADIES!! Its OK to Ditch the Scumball and make HIM! look like a Jack@%%, He did it to You! Let him Stew over his errors for a few days(weeks), forgive him later, NOT immediately and In Public. COME ON!!!

Whoops. Forgot to answer the question about the wife.

She should do a Jackie and protect her kids. The kids should be protected and allowed to heal. They will still need their father but only when ready and probably supervised.

Infedility, lying, criminal behavior are going to cause long term psychological problems. The sooner they receive therapy the better.

Mrs. Spitzer’s behavior should be above reproach until the kids are adults.

I feel for the children, they are the ones who are hurt by this. Even though they are staying together there is going to be tension and mistrust between them. Also what example does the give the girls? It’s ok to cheat on your wife as long as the husband has a position and money?
I know this has gone on throughout time but it does not make it right. Mrs Spritzer has an education and can stand on her own two feet, many strong women have made a difference in the world so could she by standing up for what is right, not what is the easy way, stay and be the quite little wife.

The way I got it figured $80000 works out to .00016% of 500,000,000 personal fortune. The amount reportedly spent over 6 years by Spitzer. It is no wonder the NY business climate is so bad, I’d have to spend $1.39 each year from my personal fortune, on hookers, just to keep up with # 9.

Spouse straying is one thing but having a bimbo in a motel room that you paid $4,500 for, more than once, then going home and saying Honey “I LOVE YOU”.

A bar room one night stand is one thing, but what he did goes beyond betrayal. She had the dear in the headlight look, at the news conference, I think because his foot was still embedded deep in her gut.

This sounds like a page right out of The Godfather. Remember when the Michael went after the Senator and the way he was set up with the murder of the hooker?

Comment by Mark, Sheboygan

Dear Alisyn…Gov. Spitzer’s wife should do what she is doing. I think the larger picture should be addressed. Democrats should speak out and separate themselves from their obvious silence.

I don’t believe Democrats should take a “holier than thou…” position; rather, they should take advantage of the opportunity to convince voters that they will manage their own house. They may be but their silence indicates they’re more concerned with maintaining power (which they are) than convincing the public of a commitment to a moral higher ground.

Just another indication that we should be using politicians for pharmaceutical research instead of white rats!

A man with money, power, prestige and a awesome looking wife. Yet he chooses to spend his money on a prositute? We do not know the history of this couple and how there lives played out at home. Is he just a scum looking for more outside the marriage or is it due to a beautiful wife who never fulfills her marital obligations?
Whatever the reason it was wrong, no doubt! I feel for this couple. I beleive that they both need to examine their roles in the relationship and see what part they played in it.
The positive side to this, if any, is that is was pay for play. No emotional relationship, which should be easier for Silda to deal with.
I would say work it out, keep the family together!

I wish you media types would stop asking stupid questions. It’s this kind of dumbed down reporting that ridicules any creditability the media used to have. I’m disappointed in you because you normally report more intelligently than this.

Love and forgiveness are very powerful. I’m not going to second guess what Mrs. Spitzer should or shouldn’t do since I’ve never walked in her shoes. However, I do know what it means to be married over twenty years and what my marriage vows mean to me. It’s easy to say “I’m out of here”, the really hard part is staying to try to work it out after being hurt so badly. Harder still to do it in the public eye. I wish her and her family well.

Comment by Tonia

I have to say I feel bad for the womwn, real bad. I can see she is in shock for one thing. Maybe he got hookers because they were by the hour and he didn’t want to get caught, maybe his wife didn’t put out? She looks the age to be going through the change, I am by no means giving him an excuse. There are so many things that can come into play here but first and foremost he and her are human and there is a total lack of respect twards the family when these things break.

He has no rights (from the press) as far as I’m concerned, but his wife and kids should be left out of this, no more press pics! Maybe just to say that poor women and those poor kids. They are the victoms along with the millions of New Yorkers. Sorry you Guys about your fallen Hero!!! Not trying to make any links here but , are Democrats just cheaters or what??????

Just my two cents, I feel bad for the State and his family. So many men do this everyday “period” the only thing that makes him different is he is a Governer. He was doing his job fine for years while doing this. People don’t like him he got caught, now his family and tax payers have to suffer by watching it on the news and paying for this to be put thru the court system. I for one don’t think it’s news worthy after watching what Bill Clinton did, if someone should have stepped down it should have been Bill. He was the picture of disgrace!!

I agree that she should leave. What kind of example is she showing those girls if she stays? That dad can humiliate, lie, and cheat, and that is ok? Nope – she needs to show that she is strong and although she loved him, she will not tolerate his behavior, because she deserves better and so so those girls. It is a pity that there are so many politicians that aren’t decent human beings and faithful spouses. I know, one bad apple and all that, but I think we are coming up on a trend. Comment for Amber!

I have been a news junkie for two score. I was educated by reading the NYT, watching the big 3 (CBS, NBC, ABC), Time, Newsweek.

I dumped all of those 20 plus years ago (1 score). May I suggest you do the same. It will expand your horizons and preclude you from making the slurred remark you made in your blog.

BTW the Creator made all things beautiful. This is not an exact quote but, JC said to His followers, “Don’t worry about your apparrel or what you have to wear. Did not my Father provide for them with coats (feathers) of beautiful colors.” I did not want the blog to time out therefore I provide that from memory. You get the meaning.

You owe an apology. It will do wonders for you. If you can’t do that don’t log on.

Fox & Friends,

You had a woman on your show this morning explaining why these (Political) women “Stand By Their Men.” I do not know if this was the reporter-interviewed’s opinion or she was some sort of an authority on this subject?

Wow! What is so wrong with women linked to politics standing on their own two feet! I had lost all respect for Mrs. Clinton shortly after her husband was elected president and her husbands first indiscretions with another women was publicly disclosed. Bill & Hillary appeared on 60 minutes, or 20 20 or one of those shows on a Sunday night “Standing by her man!” I have never forgot that and how sick it made me feel at the time, and to think he could only turn around a couple of years later and how disgusting that whole mess was and to think Mrs. Clinton was still standing there looking foolish. How can she possibly have the strength emotionally to run the country??

Mrs. Spitzer is a highly educated and attractive woman who literally got her husband to Att. General, Governor of New York and all else she has done for him and sacrificed gladly for her ”Husband.” Mrs. Spitzer continued to assist him continually while he was still active in running the state of NY not hookers. Mrs. Spitzer looked like she had been crying for at least 24 hours. My heart bled for her, I hope she does not stand by her man. Until women of all walks of life start saying no to this B.S. how can anyone have respect for them including their daughters or young women or even other men, anywhere? Mrs. Spitzer has a great deal going for her she does not need to become her husband’s identity, no women does. Mrs. Spitzer could have a heck of a book deal eventually if she chooses. Yes there is life after divorce, even for political women! As far as I am concerned this a form of abuse maybe and I say maybe not physical wife beating, but this is emotional abuse. Mrs. Spitzer may have been dragged up to that podium that day, but it was clear she could not even look at him! (Good for her)! I am hoping once he resigns or is impeached Mrs. Spitzer picks herself up spits in Spitzer’s eye and makes her daughters proud of the fact that women don’t have to take this crap! There is something to be said for artificial confidential insemination.

Leave him immediately. It’s a very poor example for their girls and why would Hillary “wish the governor and the family her best?”…only the family needs consoling…spitzer needs to earn anyone’s “good feelings” now. He’s a louse.

I am not believing that FOX lumps John McCain and his wife in this horrible circle of cheaters! You all quit doing that- John McCain had a nasty article written by a newspaper- but it wasn’t true- the story has even been dropped but yet you lump him in there with these scummy men. Shame on you.
These women are standing by there husbands out of pure greed- they don’t want to give up the money or the social power. Frankly- I can’t stand women like this… and I loath even more the men that do it…

Comment by NewJerseyJoe

What some of the blog commenters don’t seem to realize is this: the reason that Spitzer is in the crosshairs is not because he used prostitutes, per se, but because he was contributing money to a criminal enterprise. This would be a serious charge for ANYone, and particularly so for a governor and former AG.

Always a pleasure, Alisyn, take care.

Comment by Ellen U

Why was Hillary not in your “stand by your man” song/video clip this morning? Her husband was impeached for crying out loud… and he did it several times and admitted to it- but no one reminds America of that sumbag Bill Clinton- I won’t vote for Hillary JUST because she did stand by his infidelities. Trash I tell you – their all trash

Comment by Bill21782

Ali,

Respectully, you missed my point. I know that infidelity has been around longer than 18 years. What I am saying is that it seems to have become PANDEMIC since the 90s.

In other words what was reported regarding the Clinton administation became the norm. The taboos and mores morphed into debauchery on a national scale.

Look at the stats just published from 2003 on 18-24 year old girls/women. One in four has an STD. Do the math and backtrack on when they were born. How much were they influenced by the sitting president. HOW MUCH WERE THEIR PARENTS INFLUENCED BY THE SHENANIGANS IN THE OVAL OFFICE. I am suggesting a CORRELATION THAT WOULD BE WORTHY OF STUDY BY SOCIAL SCIENTISTS.

Comment by Cliff

Maybe the Gov. Spitzer and his wife have some type of arrangement. He is not an attractive looking man in my opinion. I’m not gay, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Mrs. Spitzer might appreciate not having to deal with him sexually.

Comment by marshall g.

Mr.Spitzer is far smarter than anyone has actually acknowledged thus far-
You had a story about pharmaceuticals in NY drinking water, many of which were sex stimulants-
He attended several Yankee’s games over the years and drank the water, which had residual growth hormone in it. Silda many years ago recommended that he drink more water. He complied.
She made him do it! She owes him an apology.

I agree she should leave but I am also amazed how the New Yorker’s elected a woman from Arkansas as a Senator from their state. So they have no reason to complain about this cheating, liar when they elect Hillary just because she is a Democrat!

Comment by TomCatt

I am not so sure Spitzer is willing give up his position of power. There is a lot going on behind closed doors right now. Silda should leave him but she won’t. Didn’t she look so proud of her husband at the press conference? Remember, she probably married him for money and for her perceived position in society, so love is not a real consideration. She’ll get a trip to Paris, some expensive jewelry, and a huge spending spree in NY City. If she’s a gold digger and a social climber, then she’ll stay. If she’s a woman with feelings, then she’ll leave him.
All these politicians’ wives know their husbands cheat, and the wives are probably having their own affairs too, but it’s the getting caught that’s so embarrassing. Silda looked weak and pathetic in my opinion, just like Hillary did years ago. It makes them look like the gold diggers they are. JFK was a cheater also and the media said how elegant and classy Jackie Kennedy looked in the midst of the scandals. I didn’t buy it then, and I ain’t buying it now.

Comment by Mary Cole

Oh please, let’s get real.

Having to deal with men in similar high powered positions on a daily basis, these men believe that they are above it all.
They will never get caught, and if they do, their family just turns the other way.
The wives feel that the title they have is worth a few indiscrestions.

What no one has addressed which, in my opinion, is more disturbing is the fact that he like ladies who are 22.
His daughters are how old??

Think about it.

First thing Ms. Spitzer should do is forgive him, carrying the anger and bitterness in her heart would only harm her, not him. 2nd thing is Leave him and the 3rd thing is to send the ole’ boy a BILL! I think Mrs Spitzer knew about the hookers and encouraged him to visit them. That way he leaves her alone.

Oh for crying out loud–don’t bring the LORD into this. Do you think that the LORD was by his side as he was doing things to a hooker??? Come on!! The LORD does not condone divorce, nor does he condone adultery. However, we are no longer living in the ages of the bible, which is open to each person’s own interpretation. Her first priority is to her children. You teach people how to treat you. Does she want her children growing up thinking that they deserve to be treated this way by anyone?? Obviously family counseling should be in place. Many decisions need to be made, always thinking in the best interests of the children.

Comment by Jim

Ummmm…

She knew about her husband’s behavior. How could she not? Over a ten year period, she knew. She stood by because of the power she and her husband were receiving, and she liked it. Otherwise, if she were shell shocked by this breaking, she would not have been standing by him at the press conference.

What should she do next? The same thing she’s done the last 10 years, nothing.

Comment by Mary

I would get a very, very dull knife and cut off part of his anatomy–you know which part I am referring to.

Then I would take the kids and divorce him for everything I can get. However, I doubt very much that she is going to do any of the above. Heard she is trying to keep him in the Governor’s office. I guess money and power mean more to her than decency. Oh what a couple. Those poor children of theirs.

Comment by Don

I think it was Ivanna Trump that said,”…half of everything…no I want it all”.
She should destroy him, take it all, make it as public as she can. She should set the example for these public figures who use and abuse power at the expense of the public and their families.

Could it be that Mrs.Spitzer stood by her man because she loves him? And speaking of love Bill 21782 must be in love with you judging by the number of blogs he sends. I wouldn’t think that a lady of the evening that gets $5000 an hour would have health problems after all she’s not a street hooker. By the way,why does the Judge talk so loud? I bet he drives the sound guy crazy.

Comment by Mike

Why is she standing by her man?

Just like Hillarywith Bill, it may be public now but they both probably knew what was going on, but chose to look the other way. That is wht you see the emotionless standing by (not new). The power position they have been in makes for a lot of toleration or accepatance.

I am not saying what the men of power do is right, but that the women in their life know more than they let on, or have reason to continue in the relationship.

Comment by Angelina

What a sad day for New Yorkers–and the country as a whole–when one of its “squeaky clean” leaders gets involved in such a scandal. My heart certainly goes out to his wife. Many of us–including myself–have been in her shoes. Public or not, the pain and humiliation she’s feeling is the same as any other betrayed spouse.

Now she has to decide whether to continue her marriage or to end it, and I don’t envy her that position. I elected to forgive (bad choice for me), only to have to go through it all again because I’d married a habitual offender. Eventually it ended in a very painful, messy divorce.

I won’t offer an opinion as to what I think she should do, simply because I don’t know anything about their marriage outside of this shameful fiasco. I can only sympathize, emphathize, and pray for her emotional healing, as well as the healing of their children.

Comment by KC

The question to ask is “What consequences should Spitzer receive?” I think it would be reasonable for the New York Attorney General to request:

1. Spitzer resign as Governor.
2. Spitzer relinquish his law license.
3. Spitzer serve one year in jail (Spitzer prosecuted prostitution and knew it was illegal.).
4. Spitzer undergo psychiatric analysis and treatment (Does he have a a sex addiction?).
5. After his jail sentence, Spitzer should serve community service for two years as a consultant to the New York Attorney Generals office. He should not be allowed to practice law, but should use his knowledge, talent and ability to continue to end corruption. Spitzer should not be paid for this work, and this should not be considered an undue hardship, as he is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and clearly breached the ethics he has publicly touted. Even though Spitzer himself broke the law (and broke the hearts of every American that believed he would stand and fight for truth and justice), he can take his punishment. be rehabilitated and still be effective in fighting dishonesty.

and it seems that anything and everything goes….What a shame! We all need to wake up and

realise what is happening and deal with wrongdoers severely. Spitzer’s wife should leave him but I

doub that she will, because I also think the power of his position is the thing that is making her stick

because if they had such a wonderful marriage why did he find it necessary to go sniffing aroung

with prostittes, God knows what he brought home to her because every time you sleep with

I think she maybe staying with him for their kids because divorce is horrific for kids. My children, who are teenagers, have no trust of their dad and see his selfishness with “his life” and “his wife” not them being important to him anymore. I am sure when she has time to process what is going on (and stop blaming herself which does happen) she will move forward with her life and that of her children. We need to give her some time as I am sure this was shock to her.

You have to have survival skills to last that long in that arena.
Maybe he did not want her with him. Her presence has to keep him in a
constant state of “pain”. Smart woman, she will leave with grace and dignity.

Comment by Jeanne Beans

One can almost bet that if he had the need to be seeing prostitutes over the long haul that something was also amiss in the marriage. So many marriages these day are facades.

Like Hillary, she is looking out for herself and will probably stay with him. Since it is reported that she was encouraging him to stay on, this tells me she is tied to the power and the image and the money. That will probably be more difficult for her to part with than him.

Someone mentioned checking for STD’s. That’s laughable. Sure, but do you honestly think they’re going to jump into bed together anytime soon or ever again? Do you think Hillary and Bill sleep together? Once someone strays, the trust is damaged forever.

The marriage is going to take a real beating, and I think its recovery will be contingent upon his recovery in his career. Without that, there’s no real reason for his wife to stay.

I feel for the kids. It’s so embarassing for their kids who really have unconditional love for a parent. They’re angry and ashamed. It’ll be awhile before they can face the public, and they’ll live with this for a number of years until they have a chance to recover.

Comment by Sherry

What cant he wife do? Write a book on his habits, personality, and his true demeanor behind the scenes from public view: she could make a fortune on such a publication. From the transcripts and Heidi Fleiss’ take on it, he was an egotistical retard. Lesson learned from Heidi, be nice to your call girls and don’t be a jerk. Here is where his wife can confirm his manerism and reveal these findings to those who take an interest in behavioral studies. I’m willing to bet you will find the same ego-psychotic tendancies that Ted Haggard had displayed: a syndrome of “I hate ___(fill in the blank) and I will preach and act against it in public life but behind the scenes I’m the greatest offender.”

This would lead to yet another question.

Why do people who demonstrate such behavior tend to seek positions of power?

Comment by msmick

Throw his repulsive cheating butt out!!! Absolutley no excuse for that kind of behavior!! His daughers must be so proud of him too. Typical mentality – I’m in public office so therefore, I am above the law!! If she continues to support him, then she must have a problem too!

Comment by DesertYotey

Well, Hoping that Silda is in a state of shock and confusion, I would advise her that once she comes out from under the microscope (media) that she take advantage of the opportunity to move on and move out for the daughters sake.
She has Eliot by the “anatomical place that got him into this” and if she by chance contracts an STD then his fortune can be hers just by punitive means let alone pain and suffering. I’m sure after a 50/50 divorce some hack ambulance chaser will be more than happy to turn Eliot into a memory.
BTW- comments about Silda standing by her man is unwarranted. What i saw was a women in great pain and courage come forward to witness like everybody else a jerk trying to put his spin on it. I’ll bet money that the anger will reveal in the days/weeks to come once the political spotlight dims.

Alisyn, as usual you look “hot” today.

Silda Spitzer is a very nice looking lady. Therefore, I think she should consider a little revenge on “Elliott Mess”!! There’s plenty of us guys out here that would be willing participants—if you know what I mean–wink/wink! And all for free too–take that Elliott!
Seriously, since she is a Southern Belle (North Carolina), I think she should take the girls, move back to North Carolina, buy a hog farm and offer Elliott the job of slopping and caring for the hogs!! In the mean time, she could re-establish her own law firm business—I understand she was a successful Harvard educated lawyer when she met him!! He’s well versed in caring for “pigs”.

Comment by jst

His wife needs to figure out what she wants to do for herself and her three children. Just because she is “standing by him” right now publically, does not mean that is what she will do in the long run. Maybe she will, it’s for her to decide what is best for her family.

I think she should play nice, get whatever she can while he’s repentent and take her time to figure out what is best. She doesn’t need to throw her life or her kids life into chaos because of his actions. She deserves time to decide if she wants to exit the relationship, and what the best way to do it would be for her and her kids.

Comment by Myra Sawicki

His wife should first go to the doctor and get an AIDS test, then go to an attorney and file for divorce and get everything she can.

Having been married for 37 years, life is not a bed of roses. She should stay in her marriage if that is what she wishes. Comment by Miriam

Hi Alisyn,

I have heard that high priced call girls are tested for stds regularly, not sure how accurate this is – maybe Heidi could shed some light as I read a comment she made earlier about Spitzer being a jerk. So maybe he is clean and that is why he picked this one particular girl cause she may have been clean. I am not sure about his wife as she seems to have the same attitude as Hillary. As we saw with Chelci she apparently weathered her dad’s adultry and has grown up somewhat a normal young lady.

The more the gloating apparently the harder the exposure!!! Finger pointing and laughing at the same time could cause 3 times the finger pointing back to you…so we all need to be careful who we point our fingers at as this is a prime example of the consequences.

This is a mess and what does this look like to other leaders in other countries? But then other countries have a low opinion of women, as they are looked at as property.

Enough of this. Have a wonderful day.

Consider, she is a mother, an attorney and a wife. Any mother would do whatever it took to protect her children and would not want their father sent away to jail, nor would she want to see his family hurt if she was close to them. Second, she is an attorney and understands there is a legal issue and a personal issue. The personal issue can be worked out once the legal one is resolved, but if you, as an attorney, believed there was anything you could do to protect your children, including keeping their father from being charged or found guilty of criminal charges, and if you believed standing by him at a news conference and encouraging him to not resign (especially if it was a bargaining chip) could help keep this from happening, you would do it for your kids. What do children gain if their father goes to jail? We must not assume that the reason you would stand by someone in a situation like this is always for them, or for yourself.

What does being a Democrat have to do with this? If you insist on bringing party into it, I find it interesting that when Democrats have illicit affairs it is with adult women. I feel so sorry for Slida and her children because of her husband’s selfish actions. She will have to decide what is best for herself and her children, but once that trust has been broken, it is almost impossible to get it back. Speaking from my own experience, once a man has cheated, he never will stop.

Look at Bill Clinton – he cheated on Hillary long before they were even married, continued throughout his being governer of Ark., continued in the White House, right under her nose and statted he did it because ” he could”. Either she knew and looked the other way, didn’t care, or because she had her sights on the White House for herself some day, she stayed with him, which was part of the bargain.

Slida’s children come first and she will really need to get some help in deciding what to do.
My prayers are with her!

I believe she should stick around long enough to get things in order, and then kick him to the curb. She hasn’t left him yet, but from what I can tell she is a very intelligent woman and will ultimately punt him. I really hate it when people say ‘leave him’. It somehow makes it seem sound like she should be packing her bags and leaving. In my opinion, it should be him packing his bags and leaving. Of course, there is the notion floating around that she probably knew about this behavior long ago….but that’s for another day.

Keep blogging Alisyn, it’s great. I really enjoy the show and the ATSS

The “wife” of Spitzer is sending a wrong message across America by standing at the podium with him by his side. She looks as if she is trying to “uphold” her political status and is supporting her husband. Shove politics, she needs to bop him on the head and leave the dirty scumbag and move on with her life and her kids. There are plenty of other men who are really faithful and who really would not do such a thing behind her back. Although, sad to say their are thousands if not millions of scumbags who are cheating on their wives. But, always keep in mind, the woman is capable of doing the same thing to her husband, if he;s cheating then she can certainly cheat just as much as well on him. It always works both ways. But we always should and want to remain faithful always with our spouse. That is the right thing to do.

I don’t know much about Mrs. Spitzer other than she is a grad of Merideth College and went on to Law School. I have the honor to be married to a woman with the same education and social background. My guess is she will 1) do all she can to keep the dirty laundry out of the public eye (and avoiding added speculation why she was not by his side would be one way to do that), and 2) He will get a reasonable divorce offer once, if he does not take it, look out. What he did is just plane stupid — you do not embrass a steel magnolia like that.

Alisyn,

I think his wife deserves a lot of credit for standing on stage by him and not doing anything right now while in the spot light. She may wind up leaving him and maybe rightfully so, but I think it shows a lot of character and grit on her part not to add to his public embarrassment and kick him while he is down. Of course it remains to be seen how she continues to handle herself thru this, but it seems she is on the right track to me.

Comment by Margie Carrillo

She should sue for divorce so fast that his head spins and take him for all he’s worth! He a hypocritical scumbag!! Also, $80,000 is nothing to him–he’s worth $500 million.

I think she is a brave woman. It should be a no-brainer though. I think it is a terrible crime done to her and the family. Being a woman myself, she should have already left him. If is the “hooker(s)” he ants, let them have him. He is not worthy of his wife. Don’t know about their vows, but hopefully they video taped their wedding, maybe HE should watch it! He should be castrated and banished from any and all political involvement EVER AGAIN. What a waste. I hope it was worth it Mr. ~ Alisyn, are his bags packed???? Don’t be blind! Once a cheater, always will be a cheater!!

Ms. Alyson,

Young youths often listen to the news. When they see the women presenting the news on tv, most of the time the women are dressed very provacative and then you get comments on your blog such as “By the way alyson you look hot today? Come on, your a news reporter not a call girl right? How professional is that? You look hot today?

On the cabel channel fox news, why do you women dress so sleezy? It’s either your clevage line is showing or your bare legs are sprawed out all over the palce w/ no panty hose when the couch scene comes on. Show this to one of your male reporters and ask them what they think of this. Is it tempting for them to always have your bare legs just hanging out everywhere? Can you women dress a little more suited for your profession such as classy blazers with lower hymn lines such as to the kness rather than mid thigh mini skirts? Can you put this email on the air and see what other people have to say about this? Thanks

Comment by JUDY

Thankfully I have never been in Mrs. Spitzer’s position. However, since none of us know what their intimate family life was like, maybe he was visiting these women with her consent. Stranger things have happened. Maybe she also uses some sort of escort service. None of us will every know nor do we need to know. The main point is he is a hypocrite because he was prosecuting other people for the same things he was partaking in. Power must really be addicting and blind some people’s judgement.

Comment by Matt H

After ten years of her husband frequenting these establishments, there is no way that she did not know what he was doing. The fact that she was counseling with her husband about when and how to resign is yet another indicator that she was aware of his activities. Given all the information that have come to light about her and her husband, I believe that she was not so much mad at him for what he did but rather that he got caught. Even if she did not participate in his activities she thrived off of the fame and the clout that came from his position. Were this any normal relationship she would not have been trying to help his career, she would have been moving his stuff out and filing for divorce. She is not setting an appropriate example for her children, she is trying to maintain her life to the best of her ability. This is a case of power and perceived entitlement.

Comment by Robert Alexander

I am just curious why you keep calling this offensive behavior? If it is because he was married and did it okay fine I can agree with that. What I want to know is if you are just against prostitution in general maybe? If he had been single I see no problem with what he was doing. If it can be legal in one state (and it is) then it should be in all the states. Look at the extra revenue the states are missing out on by not taxing legal prostitution.

Comment by Cindy S.

Just another example of the moral erosion occuring in our country. When is everyone going to wise up to how the pervasiveness of pornography and the exploitation of women is affecting our country and particulary the way the men growing up in our society perceive women? Understanding that sexuality is, and will always be, an important part of the human make-up, when did it become something that people would take this sort of risk for. He has a beautiful wife, 3 wonderful girls, is at the top of his field, is a public figure….and for a periodic few hours with a stranger- and to engage in something criminal…….he is willing to risk ALL OF IT. His wife should leave him and not send the same ridiculous message to American women that Hillary Clinton did. She and her daughters have suffered enough. If they did not mean enough to their husband/father to not do this in the first place, then they did not mean enough to him at all. Move on, move forward, move fast. This guy is undeserving of the family he has. I am sure there is some prostitute out there that is nearing retirement and is totally deserving of this guy. His wife needs to find something better.

Comment by karb

I don’t think you are being fair to his wife. Don’t get me wrong…I wouldn’t put up with it and I don’t think I could ever get past it. But she is NO Hillary. Everything I’ve heard and read about her says that she is a very kind, compassionate woman. Remember, this just happened a couple days ago. She is probably still in shock. Give her time to decide what is best for her and for her daughters. I imagine that she went with him today for the sake of their children, not necessarily because she is going to stay with him.

Also, I don’t think it has anything to do with his “needs not being met at home”. Men like this have huge egos and think they can do anything without getting caught. It’s just like rich people who steal things. They don’t need it – they could buy it, but it’s all for the quick thrill.

Amidst the boo hoos and ha hems She should LEAVE HIM IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!

Comment by Rae

As someone who has gone through this-though not on this scale and not publicly – she is doing what she can to get through the moment. You don’t know how you will react until you are there.

I can see her pain – and I know it took a lot of strength and will to stand there beside him. By standing beside him – she wasn’t “supporting” his poor, ignorant judgement – she is a public figure and by standing publicly-she possibly avoided the media “finding her”(they wouldn’t leave her alone until they had one picture of her) and possibly by standing publicly – her children are going to be left alone. She should not be embarassed or ashamed – he should be ashamed and embarassed -for the pain he has caused his wife and girls-on top of all the moral and legal issues. It is so very public – everything is under a microscope – including her-I’m sure in private her anger and pain are intense. Can the marriage be saved? I don’t know. Nothing is impossible.

As far as those “friends” talking to the media and giving their advice publicly – I would stay away from them – chances are they knew more than they are saying.

To those who are saying there must have been something wrong in the marriage-and that is why he “strayed”. There is no excuse or justification for what was done. If there is something wrong – you should talk it out, let the other know how you are feeling – but don’t do this – look how many lives it has touched and hurt. No marriage is perfect – but no one deserves the pain this has caused-no matter what is going on at home.

He should be held accountable, to what extent, I don’t know. He was right to resign today. Can his career be salvaged? I don’t know. Would people trust him? I don’t know if I could.

Comment by Don

Its just hard to believe that he’s been at it for 6 to 10 years without her knowing. I suspect she made a deal with him a long time ago about this behavior in order to keep her public position and her daughters from going through what they will now experience. As a man married almost 25 years to the same woman, I am embarrassed and as a conservative, I am amused.

I guess 5K is a lot but then ES isn’t exactly a looker. As for the ’safe’ sex comment from the hooker, I doubt this was about wearing socks to bed. Alisyn,

As I pondered the situation with Elliot Sprizer, I began to wonder. How would, say Nancy Pelosi’s, or some other woman of power, husband handle the situation if she spent thousands of dollars like this. Would the husband stand there, smile, knod, and stand by his husband?

Thanks

I thought for sure she would leave, but now that I hear she even advised him not to resign, I see that she’s just a Hillary clone: until Monday she fully believed she might be “First Lady” someday, and she still hasn’t quite yet resigned herself to the fact that it ain’t gonna happen.

This guy is really a piece of work! What in the world are his wife and three daughters supposed to do? There is no money in the world that is going to ease the impact of this on his little girls and the sad part is that all three of them are old enough to understand what has happened. How do they face their friends? How do they complete their education? This is going to follow them for a very long time. I don’t know how badly the Missus can ‘hurt’ this guy but she ought to give it a good shot without dragging her kids through the mud.

Comment by USMC Hardcharger

First off, Alisyn Camerota you make F&F and your smile makes every day better.

Mrs. Spitzer actions truely confuse me. I cannot believe a woman of her backround and stature would stand like a zombie and put on this kind of front.

Is there a course prerequisite for Democratic Party Wives in “Dealing with My Liberal Spouses Morals”?

You know, Spitzer could have thrown that $80,000.00 in the pool for the Dems to mail in their votes in Florida.

What Mrs. Spitzer should do and what it seems like she is going to do are two totally different things. This guy just wrecked his family, not just within the walls of their home home but on a scandal fed, media promoted worldwide basis. His kids have to be totally blown away by this. Mrs. Spitzer needs to grow some nuts and be a solid role model for her family, because her husband certainly is not.

Comment by Betty

How typical of Fox to report that it is a horrible situation to pay out 80,000 for a prostitute….What did Bill O’reilly’s wife say about the 20 million that New Corp paid out on his behalf…How typical of Fox…Don’t forget the LA Gov when you flash your Dem. pics!

Comment by G. Starks

This is only a sex scandal because the media has made it one. It’s a case of infedelity in a marriage. No one knows what Spitzer’s wife needs. And I bet he still loves his wife. Wives will be much happier if they realize…..It’s just Sex!

Comment by Gloria Ireland

His wife looked disgusted, tired and sick by his lame speech. After all, she has been living with a pretender, a guttersnipe of a husband for decades. She is a beautiful woman and should get rid of the sordid Gnome lookalike ASAP.

Comment by Willard Jackson

She has legal grounds for divorce with more than enough proof. I say take him to the cleaners.

Comment by Bozo

I like to know what do you get for 80,000.00 and how often

Comment by Kikki

She needs to think about the effects this will have on her daughters. If she leaves what will her daughters learn? If she stays what will they learn? She has to think about this long and hard.

Does she want her daughters to learn that infidelity is acceptable? This isn’t a case of a one time mistake that can be forgiven and the family can grow from it…… I hope she teaches her daughters the correct lesson.

Leave him and take him to the cleaners…..then he will think twice about what he spends his money on! Maybe he will regret spending $80,000.00 on prostitutes!

Alisyn, please try to help me understand this line of thinking? As a male, I’d like to get a female’s perspective on how so many politician’s wives would stay with their philandering husbands? The list in recent years goes on and on, including a man who I voted for in David Vitter. His wife Wendy was right there by his side just like Silda Spitzer, McGreevy’ s wife…etc. Is it the thought of losing the lifestyle of wealth, fame, privilege more important than being humiliated on national television. Where is the “I am woman, hear me roar” mentality? I just don’t get it. I know my wife wouldn’t be at any press conference for me announcing to the world I was cheating on her and the kids. Maybe I’ve answered my own question – maybe they are showing their strength as a woman in showing up and taking the road least traveled.

Comment by Cindy

All right, two married people are hurt. There are three young girls to think about. For them, how can they trust a man? Well, I’ll tell you. Their Mother ought to leave or divorce the father, let the girls have contact as much as they want with him, but don’t show them (the girls) that you have to put up with this stuff. When we find out a doctor is bad, a dentist, a broker, a minister, we leave and find someone better. In this case, she will be telling her girls that this is not acceptable for a relationship or a marriage. It gives the children permission to know and practice what’s right and wrong by example.

Comment by Chris

She didn’t look disgusted, sick or tired. She looked like a woman that forgot how to please her man. Her rich, powerful man.

I think the public should trust and support her in whatever decision she makes. No one can say for sure what they would do until they’ve been there.

I would also take exception to those who seem to take pleasure in this situation. There are no winners here…everybody loses.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the governor, his wife, and children. I hope they find the help they will surely need to work through this.

While it’s incredibly sad to see a marriage fall apart, I can’t help to feel that she is degrading herself by just standing by his side. She didn’t deserve this, and I would love to see her have the dignity and self-respect to move on and find someone who values her and is honest with her. I believe in forgiveness, however to humiliate her like this is unforgivable…to me at least. I would love to see her set an example for her daughters by not settling for this guy and not putting up with his antics! I know it’s easier said then done, but all of these woman just standing by their men when they’re cheating on them are silently excusing their behavior, which is why ifideility seems to be a growing issue. I know initially it is probably harder to leave when you’ve been so content with your lifestyle, but in the long run I think Ms. Spitzer’s better off on her own. She deserves better- it seems the public realizes it, let’s just hope she does!

Comment by Shirley

80,000. is like pocket change to him. Silda should pack her and her daughters up and get them all away from him. He certainly is not a good example to his girls. She should get enough money from him to buy a really neat mansion where they can live like they are accustomed to. Those teenage daughters must be devastated so the best thing is to start right now helping them to heal and I don’t think he would be much help in that – he has too much of an ego. I pray for them

I think Mr. Spitzer’s behavior is just the tip of the ice burg and very typical of most powerful people both male and female. This country is ethically and morally gone to hell in a hand basket. We have lost this once great nation forever. I firmly believe I will live to see a very different country then we know today and it won’t be for the better! We had our chances and seemingly wasted them all! This is a very sad state of affairs and we got exactly what we deserved! Don’t expect much as an American and you won’t be disappointed.

Disgusted in AZ!

I’m a little dense about this hooker thing. What do you get for $5000/hour vs. lets say $100/hr.? The last I looked, the females were all built alike, of course that been awhile back. Maybe I just go back in the woods where things makes more since.

Comment by eb

she shouldn’t get even…she should get everything! But she won’t….women like her ( and that goes for too) are more concerned of losing the perks that come with power. There is a price to pay for that and they know it. They make every woman who puts integrity and dignity first and acts accordingly ( in this case divorce him) look bad. As the saying goes: some get paid for their services, others get married……….and stay married because it serves both of them.

Comment by D.D.

I’m sure Mrs. Spitzer is in a state of shock and not thinking clearly. I can’t imagine why she would stand up there in apparent support of her prostitute client husband. However, I’m wondering if he (or his people) insisted she do that for some kind of “deal” — like he promises not to contest the divorce and to give her a great settlement if she stands beside him now. We all know the power deal behind Hillary’s agreement to stay with Bill. (How’s that working for you now, Hillary?) I don’t think Silda Spitzer is going to have a problem getting a great divorce settlement, given the evidence against hubby. I hope she comes to her senses, kicks the bum out, takes him for at least half of everything he’s worth, and makes a great new life for herself and her daughters.

She should leave him and take everything he has in addition to rejojcing. The only was she can not do that is if she knew what was going on and was enjoying the good life. I wouldn’t hold my head down and be sad. I would be happy the truth came out and situate myself to lead a happy, independent life without him. That couldn’t be be standing by my man on national T.V. Trust me I would have handled the situation better than the media. It would have been drama.

Alisyn,

An intelligent, professional, attractive woman doesn’t “stand-by” her man if she has just been shocked with the reality of rampant risky infidelity by a man she always thought of as the model husband/father. There is more than that to this…especially in light of reports she advised him not to resign. This smacks of an arrangement or understanding between man and wife to permit such behavior as long as the Governor kept it private and Mrs. Spitzer enjoyed the trappings of ready money and privileged power. Her tired look of resignation at his “apology” speech may be due to the looming loss of power than to her husband being “outed” for behavior she already knew about. 10 years this has been going on!!! Was she truly blind to it all?!

I stayed with my husband after stumbling onto a three year love affair with a family friend. Prior to that, I had repeatedly made the declaration that I would unconditionally leave him if he ever had an affair of any kind. I stayed with him for many reasons…none of which was a sense of duty to him. My grown children and grandchildren were at the top of the list, but it takes grit and determination to live with betrayal of this level. The look on Silda’s face during the interviews reminds me of the level of shock that I felt at first. It will wear off, the gutwrenching pain will set in, and then she will decide how she really feels. I just hate it that men use their wives’ devotion to their families as a shelter to come dragging home to with their tails tucked between their legs, all the while trying to place the blame for their deviate behavior on sex addictions or whatever else is handy. My heart goes out to this creep’s family.

FIRST: I am a republican, politically. A true blue conservative.

That said, WHY oh WHY is there no outcry over John McCain? It was stated ever so elloquently by every talking head that, “as one chooses in his own personal life indicates how he would choose in his public life.” Change that letter from “R” to “D” and the song changes by the pretend “R”s.

The “heroic” John McCain. Maverick. Blah-blah-blah. P.O.W. McCain was a married man when he was a P.O.W. His wife stuck by him, possibly prayed for his safety. While McCain was “heroically” being prisoner, his wife got into an auto accident. It left her maimed. She did not want “heroic” McCain informed of her condition as to not inflict any further mental duress that he may be enduring.

It wasnt until the “hero” returned stateside that he learned of her accident and condition. Upon seeing her, he realized he couldnt accept her present condition. “Charlie” couldnt break the Maverick/hero, but his maimed wife was a burdon he couldnt bear. *sniff-sniff* Alison, pass me a tissue.

When the going got tough-please, please, just remeber the time spent as POW for he will flash that badge in a heartbeat- McCain/maverick/hero crumbled. And here we are at wartime. Pressure situation.

Well, McCain heroically/maverically rebounded. WHILE STILL MARRIED he was smitten with a 20 something(and 20 years younger than he) named Cindy. whew. I never thought he would have recovered. He pursued that relationship while he was STILL married. ABANDONED his duty as husband. ABANDONED his duty as dad. And pursued his own selfish intrests.

What will McCain do when the going gets tough in wartime? Honor his obligation? OR pursue the more attractive and self-fullfilling avenue?

BTW, as it stands there is NO difference between “R” and “D”.

Here is a better story, ANOTHER military mind/might has “resigned”. Thank goodness, though, that we have some tabloid nonsense to report on instead of that boring important gobly-gook.

I feel sorry for you, Alison. Having to sit there and let those 3 men laugh and joke about sexual exploits like a couple of fraternity drunkards. Quite frankly, I dont see Brian or Bo Dietl or weatherguy having any experience COMBINED on the subject at hand to make any useful comment or opinion. Maybe, that is why you got “red-faced”. You were embarassed for THEM.

Comment by Foustein Moore-Davenport

She should be a source of support for her children who have been damaged beyond repair by their father’s behavior. His youngest is getting ready to begin her college life, and this should be a thrilling time for her, unfortunately this has been ruined for her. Just try to put yourself in the shoes of those children and think how you would feel if your father had done something like this. It will be up to Mrs. Spitzer to get them through this. Mrs. Spitzer is to be applauded for just staying in the same house with him, let alone in the same room. Once the initial shock has worn off she will have to decide how she will put this unfortunate episode behind her. Preferably with him under a very large rock. Like the nasty worm that he is.

Comment by S Quick

For the sake of her daughters and women everywhere, she should act in a way that clearly shows that his actions are unacceptable and she does not have to take part in his shame. Ladies, make your mind up right now that if anything like this happens to you, you will not stand beside him during a public confession. It sends a message of abuse and manipulation acceptance.
She should send him packing and take him for all she can.

Comment by Erik

YES the man was too stupid for words and he does need to take responsibility for his actions and accept whatever his personal and professional punishment maybe…. BUT there are two sides to every story. I see a great many comments saying “oh poor wife.” I am willing to bet it has been a long time since his wife has ever wanted or needed for anything nor will she in the future. He was less than a quality husband, was she less than a quality wife? What types of actions did she or did she not do to drive an otherwise successful man to such dumbness?

Alisyn,
I could see the hurt in that woman’s eyes today at the press conference. The Governor (soon to ex) should be ashamed of himself big time. I think if he has that much money to through around at hookers, she should take as much of his money as she can. But, who knows as someone else mentioned there are 2 sides to every story. We don’t know about her past either. But, a public admission of sleeping with prostitutes, high priced ones at that has to top it all. ‘

How many times have we seen this now? This are our public officials. If they don’t keep promises to their wives and families then how are we to trust in what they say to the us. How do so many people adore Bill Clinton? He used our White House Oval Office as a private hot spot.

But, as the high priced hookers pay for their crimes to a higher extent of the law. This jerk will probably get a slap on the wrist. Monica Lewinsky has paid a high price for her wrong doing in the White House. Bill Clinton is admired. Priceless…..

I cant believe how stupid he was choosing a prostitute over his wife, shes a real hottie!

She should certainly get tested for STDs, and she should get a divorce. I think she’s been humiliated enough for one lifetime, and enough is enough. 10 years and $80,000 worth of escort services shows a pattern of unacceptable behavior.

Obvious a divorce is going to be a bit high profile and probably cause her further embarrassment, particularly if an attorney tries to prove she knew about the actions before it became public, but that’s nothing compared to silently accepting the behavior of her husband. At least once it is over she can show her face in public without looking a humiliated as she did on the news.

Comment by George Planet

My question is why did he not go to Canada (just a few hours away) where Escorting is legal! That’s right. Escorting is as legal in Canada as obeying the speed limit! It should also be legal in America as American Laws regarding Escorts and Escort Services are simply archaic! America is the only western nation in the world where this is illegal! Would this even be news if Spitzer had gone to Canada to get his jollies?

My take is this:

1- She knew about his behavior for a while, but was powerless to do anything about it. She may not have known the extent of his problem, or that he would do something so potentially compromising to his career- but I doubt a sex addict like this did not have this and other behaviors going on. around the house and in the bedroom..

2- I also doubt that he ONLY spent $80,000 dollars in ten years- Spitzer is a millionaire, and this reported tryst ALONE was over $4,000. Do you all think he only “budgeted” two of these a year for the past ten years? The figures are only from this ONE club! Someone so addicted cannot wait for 6 months to act out- he probably had other avenues, women, and ways to feed his problem.

Regular income individuals spend much more on their addictions than $8000- this is just the tip of the iceberg, and we do not know how much he really did or what the Feds know.

It doesn’t matter where the money came from. The fact that the Gov chose to indulge in this disgusting hobby and did so with no respect for his wife, children, family or the citizens of his state which he represents shows he has no respect for morals, dignity, responsibility, etc, etc, etc. He is scum, scum of the earth. The girls he engaged with are the same scum he is. They should all be exposed as it takes two (or 3 or more or a thousand as it seems to be) to tango. None of them care about morals, family commitments, honesty, or respect for the ones they promised to or brought into this world. I hope he gets what is coming to him, the same humiliation 100 fold that he has dealt to his wife and three beautiful girls who are at such a turning point in their lives. I would be devistated if I were his wife or child. They need to turn him loose and get on with their own lives. He is scum. His wife has many talents and she gave them all up to support him (and his grave decisions?) and their children. She doesn’t need him, she can go on without him. God love her and her children. They have all been humiliated and I pray they are able to find the strength and courage to go on without the Gov. Pray for them people, they need all they can get. So Sad.

I think Mrs. Spitzer should hold a press conference of her own. She needs to say “Look ladies, we’re better than this.” I would have never stood on that stage with him.

Half of his assets (present and future) would NOT be enough.

And, am I the only one, but does Mrs. Spitzer resemble Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman)?!

maybe those that are blessed with intellect, well educated, wealthy, powerful would realize the only thing to do for ms spitzer, whats at the apex of her intellect is to help her children forgive. all the damage has been done that can not be reversed for she and her husband. certainly there will be repercussions for the whole family. the only thing she can really hope to accomplish now is to get her children through this the best possible way. the children don’t want to divorce their dad. she can suppress the hate, the desire for revenge that all the pain the situation brings for her children hoping she can someday view him again as her children do. after reading many of the comments above wonderful USA goes for the throat when available. divorce him, no more intimacy, take him to the cleaners, she doing it for power. hey lets teach our kids to hate. yea divorce, infidelity. very sad that apparently most of the population cannot understand what she appears to be doing for her children so far. if they could maybe the divorce rate would be 4% verses 60%. i’m not condoning infidelity but its done and ms spitzer maybe is doing it for the empowerment of her children in the long run but who wouldn’t with such an available arena. then again maybe now that big “E’s” real insecurities with women have surfaced and with all his power and wealth put his spouse to the ultimate test and she just wants to yet keep him guessing(insecure as ever) the rest of his life about her as his punishment.

This is to Roger–yes, his problem is between him and the Lord, but not exactly…when he was doing u know what with the callgirls, he was ignoring a vow that he made to his wife (you know that part about becoming one with your wife). Therefore, it’s between him and the Lord and his wife. But, wait a minute, isn’t…excuse me…wasn’t he the governor and sworn into office and supposed to be a role model for a the citizens of NY? Maybe this is between him and the Lord and his wife and the good folks of New York. But what do I know, I’m just country girl from North Carolina. I guess the moral of this story is that anyone can fall, and the higher up you are the harder it is to hit. Judging others ought to be done in a sensitive way but he was the gov after all.

LEAVE.

LEAVE.

LEAVE.

And take a thought from Reese Witherspoon when she was struggling to accept her failed marriage. She said she had a moment when she looked around and realized over 50% of the people she was looking at had been through the same and survived.

I am disgusted that he expresses sorrow over his action yet we all know the sorrow is in what HE has lost due to getting caught. He was obviously not ashamed of the deviant betrayal or it would not have happened repeatedly.

She really ought to leave no matter how difficult it seems to be because she can begine anew without him. When soemone has betrayed you this many times so very deeply, the notion that you could ever really no that person again enough to establish complete trust is lost. She will live in bondage to that lack of trust if she remains with him.

She can start over. I hope she does. No one deserves to give their life to someone only to have nothing truely valuable given to them. He disrespected her in front of the country.

May God free her and bless her.

At some point, she’ll work out what is best for her and her daughters. One thing is for sure, that calm exterior is probably exploding with rage behind the scenes. I sure wouldn’t want to be him when everyone else goes home.

I would never appear in public and stand by a man who embaressed me in front of the whole world. He committed the dirty deed without me and he’d face the camera and the judge without me. I don’t see how he can even mention the words “I’m sorry” after the pain and suffering his children must be going through. Just FOR the girls sake, I’d leave. What a way to go, Dad. on this subject i can feel her pain..her husbands prostitute knew he was married so why didn’t she send him back to his wife but then prostitutes have no morals and neither does he.all men do the same as this man and they don’t care either..i think this lady should take her time to feel her own thoughts not anyone elses putting pressure on her..she needs to get away from everyone and everything for a few month to understand herself and why this all happened..besides it takes two people to mess up a marriage..

Comment by Randy

I think she should take her girls and go on an extended vacation-say six months to a year at his expense. See her lawyer to take care of everything in her absence-financial-legal-etc… When she has managed to sort all of this out-then she can decide what she wants to do but she needs some isolation-insulation from this circus. If the poor excuse for humanity calling themselves the press will let her. She is a victim not an active participant and so are her girls. He is the one who likes the limelight let him have his and her have hers. It’s none of our business.

Mrs. Spitzer should definitely be tested for STD’s if she hasn’t already. I’m not sure that she’s standing by her man because of power. She looks terribly distraught as any wife would be. I don’t know how she can stand the sight of him, let alone stand next to him. She’s more brave than I am. She has nothing to prove to us women. Stop standing next to him and get a very good attorney, divorce him and forget about taking half his money. Take it all, honey!! Find a new dream and go out and live it. He certainly did. Forgive him for your own peace of mind and start a new, wonderful life without him. He doesn’t deserve you. I don’t have long to live and the one thing I’ve learned through my experience is to enjoy life, laugh and be happy. You’re going to need your time to grieve, no matter how long that takes. But none of us has to put up with any nonsense. Let yourself feel your emotions instead of standing by your man to look good for the public. We’re already on your side. Unfortunately your husband’s brain is not in his head. As usual, it’s in another part of his anatomy. Please take good care of yourself and your daughters. So many good women and men are on your side and wishing you well!

What Spitzer did to his wife is the ultimate “slap-in-the-face”. Whether it was intentional or not ( Silda showing up by his side) brings the “real picture” to the situation. Standing there shows in real life what Spitzer did to his family – it is all over her face, instead of hiding the real truth behind closed doors. The world can see what he has done.

Mr. Spitzer violated the trust of everyone in New York And the USA. There should be legal ramifictions for that. All of a sudden his wife has options, a few in fact 1. She could hit him in the head with a two-by-four 2. divorce him and be set up for life 3. forgive him and try to have a good life with him 4. take lessons from the hooker and have a great time while he is going through the legal process possibly prison time. It depends on how much class she has. But to say the least SHE has the options. She should use them to HER best advantage.

Thank oyu fo rletting us comment.

When are you all going to get to the basics. It takes two to make a marriage work. They both were in love at one time, but after three children and years of the same routine they have drifted apart sexually. She probably is stuck in a routine and is getting along without it and doesn’t even discuss it with him. He obviously went elsewhere to satisfy his need. If this has been going on as long as speculated. . . she has had inklings and has chosen to ignor them. Blame them both, but get it out of the news. He has resigned so let let them alone to sort out their problems.

My heart goes out to all the people involved. This is a tragic event for Gov. Spitzer’s family.

Why hasn’t Fox News addressed the issue of Sexual Addiction. I am sure that the Gov. will have “a life after this”, but will the really important news story continue to be covered up…. the national emotional/sexual disease known as sexual addiction?
I pray that the Gov. will get professional help for his addiction.

What makes a man who has a beautiful family and a career that “was” awsome…do this to himself? Why would a man hurt the woman he married like this? It has to be a sexual addiction. Why have all the news networks selectively omitted this important aspect of the story?

I am sure the prostitute is a good singer …. but what does a strait, monogamous man have to do to get his music played on Fox News?????

Listen to my “Border” song on myspace…. http://www.myspace.com/theunknowntraveler
It is about the national concern over securing the border.
It will blow your conservative socks off… It does mine every time I listen to it!

Blessings to all,

The wife should divorce him and take him for everything he has left. Leave him with zero. She is a pretty female, she can do way better than that. Obviously he can get something good without having to pay lots of money for it. She is better off without him.

I take it most here are projecting how they would react if this happened to them. Guess what? You will never know until it does happen to you and you may be surprise what you do. It is a complicated situation not easily remedied by a simple judgemental action.

Maybe she knew, maybe not. Maybe she had affairs herself. We will never know the whole story.

To say she had a part in this………., I think he should be the only held accountable for HIS actions.

The reporter was too funny in how adamant she was that the spouse always knows. Please find better “experts” to interview.

I feel the only way Silda would show up standing next to him quite unhappily I might add, was that he must have offered her a great amount of money to do so. Something had to be in it for her in doing so, at his insistance. She also may still may be in shock, much like you are when a loved one dies. Spitzer’s career is dead, guess he was in denial too a few days. He used those hookers, and now he’s using his wife as a shield of sorts. Glad he’s not my husband. I hope she dumps him for her own sake! She can do a lot better then him!

That depends on the nature of their relationship, obviously enough.

If she values honesty, loyalty and morality, then she should either divorce him or stick with him to try to redeem him (assuming that is possible). This assumes that she was unaware of his actions prior to the revelation and has been thus harmed by his actions.

If she was aware of his actions and tolerated them, then she should probably stay the course. It worked well for Hillary.

But, the most reasonable thing to say is that her choice is not our business but is best left as a matter between her and her husband. While they are public figures, they are still entitled to have some degree of privacy and to not have the crowd (myself including) shouting (or typing) advice. His actions as governor are the business of the citizens of New York. His actions as a husband are not our business. While they are the same actions, the scope of concern varies (the governorship vs the marriage).

I think she should leave him, it is true it takes 2 for the marriage to work, so both of them failed in that part. I really don’t know why she would stay with the guy, so, now she is not happy, so what else? Power under a political figure? She gets kicked out from the very high class club house? Money? Apart from whatever she gets on her paycheck unless she is the one maintaining him, lol. Hey, this guys do have a big fat paycheck, and who knows what else comes with it as sometimes it boils my blood.

Maybe you should all think of this: If Spitzers wife was treating him right he probably would not have had to find pleasure somewhere else. Just like if you are mistreated in a store or restaurant you go elsewhere to eat. Maybe he was wrong, but I’m sure his wife was the cause.

What a piece of work he is. First I find it pathetic that he wants a get out of jail free card yet I doubt he ever gave one to the ones he got put in jail for the exact same thing. For his wife, one I feel really bad for her. Who cares if she likes the money and power. It does’t take away from her pain and that is evident on her face. I think she is going to have to do what is best for her and it is only her decision. She will hopefully gain a new found strength in this and be able to do what she feels is in her heart to do. Know one can ever really know what they would do unless they are in the situation. It is always easy to sit back and say what “you” would do when you aren’t in the middle of the storm. He however is a total pig.

I was a victim of infidelity. To say if a woman had treated her husband right or met his needs lets him off the hook. We were very active sexually but he still had an affair in our marriage and has other sexual behavior that I concider inappropriate. There are some people that are just imoral and to blame the spouse is very unfair. I feel the pain of the Gov. wife and hope that she does what is right for her in this situation and doesn’t let herself be influenced by the opinions of others.

I think that his wife should take what belongs to her in the marriage and find a better life, it may be hard, however it cannot be as hard as the humiliation and the degrading ways in which her own husband has treated her.

thank you

I am so disheartened by the fact that yesterday I turned on the news three times, and ALL three times FOX news was showing the website of the hooker who deserves to go to jail for breaking the law. Please stop talking about her, you are just adding to her “success” story. She is going to make millions on this and it is sick and wrong.

I heard a poll the other day that there are more people supporting the war in Iraq than have in years. I heard that the war was actually going successfully! But I didn’t hear it on Fox news. I heard it on K-Love, a Christian radio station. I am a Fox news fan, but sometimes I am greatly discouraged by the fact that you seem to jump on the bandwagon like everyone else.

How many people right now would be applauding you for NOT talking or reporting ANY more on this girl who is a hooker. I won’t even say her name because I am sick of hearing it.

My heart goes out to the wife. No one knows what she wants to do and she probably doesnt know herself. She may choose to stand by him, but as time passes, she may see it is in her best interest to leave. The stress she is undergoing can be very damaging to her health. No one can tell someone in a crisis what to do. It will have to be her choice. Im sure she is thinking about her girls and what is best for them. A big mistake was made… can she forgive him????? Its not our choice. She needs to care for herself for now. You can see the pain she is wearing on her face. God bless her and her family.

Hi Alisyn
I sent commet to Obama subject too. Hope you got it. Never underestimate the knowlage of the wife. Jackie Kennedy, Princess Di, & Hillary Clinton all have been cheated on. At some point each woman found out what was going on with their (public figure) husband. What should she do? After she talks to her doctor, I hope she learns how to be strong for herself. If she stays, she’ll need it to carry all that buggage and if she leaves, she’ll need it to start all over again.

Too bad you couldn’t do the same coverage about the Mayor of Detroit and his sex story. You know that story, allegedly the Mayor is caught with hooker by his wife. Allegedly the Mayor’s wife breaks the arm of the Hooker. Add in all kinds of side items that snowballed from there and it still makes me wonder, “Who shot and killed the Hooker?”

Thanks for the opportunity to get that off my mind.
