Alisyn in the Greenroom

Mike Huckabee…and a polite request.

Mike Huckabee’s going to be in the Greenroom this morning.   Any questions you’d like me to ask him?  What do you think about him staying in the race?  If it’s mathmatically impossible for him to secure the nomination, is it time to bow out?

And now for a total non-sequitur… let’s establish a ground rule for In the Greenroom.  If you want to criticize any FOX News Channel personality here, let’s limit it to it me.  It’s not cool to insult or slam anyone other than me on this blog.   But you know, I’d hate for all your venom and vitriol to be wasted on my eyes only.   And good news!  Some of the anchors that are really getting under your skin have their own email.  I’m sure your helpful wardrobe hints will immediately be heeded by all the people that are arousing your, um, ire.

Alisyn;

If Huck drops out, will McCain’s “McCain-Feingold” Campaign Finance issues go away?

Comment by Luis

What does Mike hope to accomplish by continuing his campaign instead of graciously dropping out and supporting McCain? Is it ego, jealously, what?

Who would complain about your wardrobe? Ya’ll are only doing what every other network, especially the Clinton News Network (CNN) is doing. Sex sells……………….many of their “personalities” could not report their way out of a paper bag or spell cat if you spotted them the “C” and “T”………..

I do wish you’d give my Weather Goddess (JD) more airtime though :)

You can’t help but like Mike Huckabee. I think he would be a great vice-president and he is young enough to run again next election. Whats to keep Republican’s in states that allow it from voting in the Democratic primary against the candidate they least want in the White House.

Comment by Richard Hellander

(1) Why does Mike Huckabee continue to waste the money of his supporters?
(2) Tell Gretchen “Hello”….I grew up in NE Minneapolis. Tampa now.

Comment by Stewart

Hi Alisyn,

I support him staying in the race. I am from PA, so our primary is not until April 22nd.

Does he think that there should be a national primary? all the primaries held on one day?
As a candidate how would that help or hurt the system?

What does he think about Ralph Nadar running for president?

I would not slam any of the FOX anchors.

Stewart

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Stewart,
Just asked him your question. He says he actually wishes the opposite! He wishes the primary season were longer, not shorter. He thinks a longer one (and one that’s not so front-loaded as this year is) would help voters learn more about each candidate and weed out the less qualified candidates whereas one national Primary Day (as you’d suggested) would allow the candidate with the most money and name recognition to win. He likened the winnowing process to American Idol! How’s that for a candidate with his finger on the zeitgeist?

Comment by Bill

Owli,

I was wondering when you were going to put the kibosh on insulting other hosts. Everyone has their favorites and remarks should remain civil.

I like to compliment you because you make me laugh and are vivacious. You are a “woman for all seasons” because you remind me of Lucy and the Mona Lisa (funny and a captivating smile).

For Mike Huckabee: When will someone get to the bottom of Obama having gone to a Madrasa (sp?). I am not certain it is even true, however, I want to know. Mr. Huckabee is a clergyman and a presidential candidate. There is no comparison between “Sunday school” and a Madrasa (a school where the only subject is Islam). It seems to me, this subject could provide a segue into
Texas and Ohio’s voting populas that is concerned about this as I am.

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

The Obama-madrassa story has been debunked. Some think a different campaign planted it in the national consciousness to scare voters away.

He’s not dropping out, he says.

Comment by Danny

Hi Alisyn,
Please tell Gov. Huckabee we appreciate him and what he stands for. I’m sure he will do exactly what he has said and drop his bid when Senator has the number of delegates to win. At that time he will support the ticket and help unify the party.

Thank you again for the opportunity to communicate. This should not be a platform to criticize you or anyone else at FOX News. If some do not like what they see, they can change the channel. I totally enjoy your program.
I try to watch from work which means I miss a lot of it. Can you give me the name of the book and author who was on earlier about kids with charactor.

Again, I love what I see on Fox and Friends. I watch Fox News for 98% of my news.

Venom & Vitriol wow! btw how many of those that spew it will have to look it up to see what it even means! I would just like to go on record as saying I love Fox and the last few days without it sure does make a diff!

Thank you again Alisyn for opening this blog for those of us who enjoy all @ FOX!

It is not uncommon for some viewer’s to think Alisyn that they should be able to tell the anchors what to wear or how to act. Many do not realise that such comments generally go to the trash bin. Being polite and courteous cost us nothing and Alisyn is correct beng rude, crude and impolite only angers the women who work at Fox News and insures that eventually your emails will be automatically deleted without being read or your email address added to the spam lists. Constuctive critism is welcome at Fox News they have heeded mine in the past but insults and comments of a sexual nature only earns the writer contempt from everyone.

I have been writing Fox News for years and have always found them open to constructive criticism and willing to implement suggestions they find intersting or useful. You want to win friends and influence people at Fox News keep your comments and emails within the bound of common decency.

Why hasn’t Huckabee dropped out? Well, he has answered that question over and over and I agree!….because he wants to keep issues out in front, that are importanat to a large number of us!!!! I love Huckabee - he is such a REAL person. I really think that what you see is what you get with him. Wasting the money of his supporters? NO - why do you think they supported him in the first place? They believe in him and want him to keep their issues in the news.

Insult the other FOX personalities? How can we? They are all so wonderfully talented, personable and very funny.

Can someone please tell me - did Marie Osmond ever really say “I did NOT fake the fainting spell”? I never heard her actually say that. She kind of “danced” around those exact words and when Steve teased her about it she called him a butt. hmmm yes, I know she was laughing but people smile and laugh when the are covering something up too.

About the couple in GA who won the lottery, who will take the cash option of $160M. So the couple risk their money, the State of GA created the lottery law, and the GA State Lottery Commission does the advertising, administration, etc. Why is it that Federal Government, who did nothing in this transaction, will get $70M or so, of this couples money?

Where can we find the email addresses of other anchors? And it is quite obvious that Fox has asked (requires) their female anchors to sex it up. I’m not complaining but I am curious as to why they would all agree to such a dress code. Is the pay and air time that great and intoxicating?

Comment by Aurelia Connelly (Australia)

I’ve been following Huckabee since he first entered the race (back in the days of his 2% polling), and I am still so impressed by him, not only as a politician but as a person. I personally am not a highly religious person, but I see no problem with having someone who does as a leader. In fact I believe it helps more than hinders, as he has strong morals and faith in humanity. I bought his book whilst visiting the States in January, and highly recommend it to anyone as it will help you understand that this man isn’t the kind of person who starts something and doesn’t finish it.
Also, completely non-related tangent here….what did you think of the Oscars?

Comment by Danny

Thank you for the book information. BTW, I watch Fox & Friends because I hear the news and enjoy the program not because of what some wear. This is the problem with many conservatives. If they cannot dot every “i” and cross every “t” exactly their own way, they want to fight it. You guys keep up the good work. I’ll be you’re cheerleader and I consider myself to be very conservative.

Comment by Gwen in Mississippi

I really like Mike Huckabee and don’t feel that he should drop out of the race until he gets good and ready to. He does speak on some legitimate concerns of many conservatives, and they need a voice too. I’ve been a McCain supporter for many months now; but Huckabee has every right to remain in the race so that conservative issues will not be forgotten.

It was good to have Greg Kelly back this past weekend. I still missed Page and hope she’ll be back soon. Clayton was somewhat better than his first weekend. He just doesn’t need to get up in front of everyone else and jump rope or do air guitar. That’s a bit distracting. He did, however, improve (somewhat). I do think they need to give the viewers some sense of what’s going on. I really do like Greg, Page and Kelly together.

I guess the reason we unload on you about some of our concerns or the “Sharon Stone” moments we notice is that we know you do read comments from your bloggers. When I email to the friends@foxnews address, I feel my comments are disappearing into a black hole. I don’t feel that anybody ever reads those. There’s never any feedback. Sorry if we’re taking advantage of your graciousness.

Good Mernin’ Alisyn,

Would the Gov. be able to explain to me why no one will highlight Hillary’s sub-par performance in NY as a Senator? I was born & raised in Upstate, now living in the south, and it saddens me every time I go home. Decaying, dilapidated, dysfunctional….. and of course Taxed to Death.

It continues to slide further and further into a depressed ,dis-spirited area and Ms. Clinton’s has not slowed, arrested, or turned the situation around.

TO ME THAT SHOULD BE HIGHLIGHTED….. but for the life of me, I can’t figure out why it isn’t. Would the Guvna have an explaination?

Dr. Mike

Right now Mike Huckabee is my last hope. If McCain becomes the Republican nominee then I will be abstaining from voting for a Presidential nominee for the first time ever. I cannot in good conscience vote for John McCain. He does not support conservatives values such as the right to life, which is evident in his continual support of abortive embryonic stem cell research. And while he may be better than Obama, a vote for the lesser of two evils is still a vote for evil.

Comment by Bruce Huffman

Hi Alisyn,

Govenor Huckabee has the right to pursue his dream up to a point. When his continued participation in the contest starts to hurt the Republican chances of beating the Democrat nominee, then and only then should he graciously withdraw.

Bruce

Comment by C. Forest Fortreas

I would love to see the Republican, Democratic and Huckabee as a third party candidate sparring over issues in a debate.

I think Huckabee would win the day with a large enough audience to finally hear his ideas. Too bad he got cornered into saying he would not seek a third party nomination and being a man of his word, he will not.

Comment by Carl Barrows

I believe Mike Huckabee has a lot to talk about and advocate, especially the reform of the tax code since he supports the fair tax. There’s no way those important issues are getting talked about without Mike in the race. I really don’t think it has anything to do with ego!

Carl

Comment by Wayne Hudson

Mr. Huckabee has the right to remain on the campaign trail as long as he wants to do so. However, at this point it is impossible for him to win the nomination. He should be honest about why he chooses to remain on the campaign train, it certainly can’t be because he believes he has a chance for the nomination. It is time for him to put his personal desires aside and stand behind the republican candidate, John McCain.

Comment by Michael

Most people outside of Arkansas didn’t even know what a Huckabee was early last year. Now he is a household name and face. IMO, he was always the big winner in the debates and he didn’t use a lot of pie in the sky rhetoric to make that happen.

Comment by Earl Dinkelr

Tell Gov. Huckabee that I support absolutely what he is doing. Our government and laws aren’t based upon what the polls say. This isn’t about Mike Huckabee, its about allowing people to have their right to speak their minds in the political process. An Ohio primary voter should be just as important as a Georgia primary voter should be just as important as an Iowa caucus attender. As a modern American Philosopher once said; “It ain’t over until its over”.

Sen. McCain, whom I will vote for if Gov. Huckabee and Mr. Keyes aren’t in the race at the time, does not have 1,191 votes yet. Until he does; “It ain’t over.” For the people who seem to think probabilities actually mean something, let me remind them, a 90% probability that Sen McCain will get the nomination also means that there is a 10% probability that Gov. Huckabee will get the nomination. Give the average political activist (I’m one) of any stripe a 10:1 shot and they’d all go for it!!

Hang in there Huck, Kristy Ally ain’t singin’ just yet!

Comment by Kathy in Texas

I love Huckabee, I find him funny and refreshing. I love fairtax.org too before he took it up. But I think it is time for him to call it quits. But he can do anything he wants to.

Alisyn, I think this is a sad commentary on the old notion of respect. It has become easy to attack and hide on the net.

No reason to ‘dis’ people on a blog. We are all somebody’s hero and somebody else’s heel and most of us are just trying to get on with life, take advantage of opportunities that come, and do good with what we have. For me, I discovered this neat little gadget - I think it’s called a “remote”, and when somebody comes on I really do not want to see or hear, one of the many buttons on that remote can simply make it a non-issue! Fantastic little gadget! Everybody ought to have one. :)

Comment by Quinn V

Some of my peers in the comments above have stated that Mike Huckabee may not be tough enough to be a President in these turbulent times. It takes more of a “warrior” to take a stand for what is good and right, and to not sway due to the unpopularity of an issue. That is what this country needs.
His numbers may not look as good as McCain’s right now, but in a nation of quitters, Mike Huckabee has my utmost respect for his steadfastness.
I want to respect the President in office. Mike Huckabee “walks the walk,” and as an American citizen, my family and I would be honored to walk it with him. Good for him for seeing his race through to the end. … And who knows, maybe VP this term, and President next. We’ll see :)

I want Huckabee to stay in the race! We never know what will happen until the race is OVER! For those of you worried about him wasting donors money, I am sure you were not giving him any financial supprt to begin with. He has been the most responsible candidate with his finances on both tickets! I will continue to support him as well as most of those I know!!
GO HUCKABEE!!!

Comment by Gerard Falzon

NO!!! Huckabee should not quit for exactly the reasons he articulated this morning. The issues of life (embryonic stem cell), tax system, and family are not resolved by McCain. We need Huckabee to move those issues so that McCain has to address them and, hopefully, move to the right. If not, we need Huck not McCain. FYI, after hearing Huck this morning, we went straight to his website and donated as our proxy for Duncan Hunter.

Comment by Eric HIckman

Hi Alisyn,

I live in Indiana and have not had a chance to vote in our primary either. I don’t like it that we will only get a chance to ratify a candidate. I don’t have a problem with Mike staying in the race. At least we get to express our disatisfaction with McCain. I am sure he’ll drop out like he said he will, but I sure wish I had an alternative other than McCain.

Eric

Comment by Kris

I say stay in the race Huckabee!!! Why not? Other states have not had the opportunity to vote yet. They need to be heard too! I would hate it if I went to vote and everyone had dropped out but one. What’s the point in voting? Also, I don’t support Ron Paul but don’t forget that he’s still running.

Eric H - is right - maybe McCain will notice the number of voters who are still voting for Mike even knowing he probably won’t win the Rep. nominee and consider the issues that are ignored by him.

Carry On Mike!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Andrew

Absolutely not! There are over, what, 8 months left until the general election? Does anyone else not think this would be an extreme short-circuiting of the process to have eliminated all the intra-party debating of issues so long before then? There are clearly many issues confronting the country at this time, and I think now, more than ever, we need prolonged and continued debate! Not shortened debate! And it is my opinion that Mike Huckabee represents the most difference in stance and strategy regarding many core issues out of the 4 remaining viable candidates (I disclude Ron Paul because he has never been viable…he has what, 11?, total delegates compared to Huckabee’s few hundreds?). We will rue this election if it comes down to McCain vs. either Obama or Clinton. None of those three is a fit choice to lead this country. I don’t say this due to sour grapes as a Huckabee supporter. The bottom line is that liberal policies have utterly failed this country! And those three would lead us further down the train wreck track of big government and social entitlements. We need someone willing to strip government bare, as the forefathers intended. Stop burdening the people. I’m gravely concerned with Obama’s support of a global tax to go to a UN fund for developing countries. I will *not* be subjected to a global tax…we are overtaxed already, and that is a further push towards less representation of the American people and overlords farther and farther removed from our concerns. Where is the freedom anymore? We get more of the same…yet people want Huckabee to be silenced 8 and a half months before the election. I say, bring in more voices and debate, not fewer!

Gov. Huckabee should stay in the race all the way to convention.

He is the only qualified candidate who has actually run a government and who has had to tackle tough decisions regarding a variety of issues.

His experience up against Obama? Huckabee would win hands down. They are both young and inspiring, but at least Huckabee has actual responses to questions about CHANGE. His 10 1/2 years governing crushes Obama’s few years in the Senate.

Our country is going downhill. We are turning into a reality t.v. based country who has lost all morals. Just look at the media’s lies and deceitful rumors lately. McCain’s delegate count changes every few minutes, but until they are ALL pledged delegates up to the convention, Huckabee still has a great chance.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness….. At least Huckabee stands for something and has kept his principles the same.

McCain, I’m sorry, but you would not have a chance against Obama. The young people will come out in droves just like they did for Clinton when he first ran for office.

Maybe McCain should step aside and have Huckabee take over the reigns. McCain would make a descent VP that could rule with an iron fist and have this war be won. Let someone who is physically able and who has experience to be the President be the front runner. Huckabee would turn things around. McCain, enjoy retirement and take some time off.

Comment by al m.

Stewart - That was a great question for Huckabee this morning! His answer makes perfect sense..Perhaps the powers that be will give his ideas some consideration for the next primary season..(It’s insane the way it’s setup now)..

The nation would have been better served if we were able to hear more from ALL the canidates; Biden, Richardson, Romney, etc..

Alisyn,
I admire Mike Huckabee, for the man that he is.I’m not a young man anymore, and, looking back over the years, and considering, what I’ve seen in the political arena, leaves a bad taste in my mouth sometimes….Mike Huckabee,is as genuine a person to come along in a long time,as far as I’m concerned…….He’s proved Himself in Ark.with a 10 yr tenure, that rewarded him,to be recognized as one of the top Governors in the country, while Governing in a state that is Liberal….That doesn’t make Mike Liberal….He’s not a quitter, and he believes in what He stands for,and I admire a person that says what he believes and sticks to his guns….There has been a lot of Half truths spoken about this man, from other candidates until recently, and The real truth is there to be viewed if people would take the time to search in earnest….What bothers me is the way some people are trying to write him off and not give him the recognition that he deserves, and that includes the Media as a whole….Fox included,as well..
Having said that,I want to thank you for the opportunity to express my views
God Bless, and keep up the good work

Comment by Ken from Iowa

Mike needs to stay in the race. Those who want him to get out are just a bunch of morons, that includes Rick Perry of Texas. Next time you have him on ask when he became a communist and has the right to try and rig an election by trying to pressure people not to run.
As far as I’m concerned if Mike doesn’t get the nomination I’ll write him in in November as principle always comes before pragmatism. Quite honestly Huckabee would be doing much better right now had the lie not been spread that he was backing out of Florida.
Huckabee is the only GOP candidate who can out-debate either one of the democrats, and he is the only one of the remaining candidates who actually knows how to run a government within a budget. None of the other ones can make this claim. I think the one thing that he needs to do immediately is name Duncan Hunter as his running mate, let’s see then how long McCain’s coronation for nominee continues.

Comment by Chase Alexander

I know Huckabee will not make it, you know it, and so does he. However, by staying in it allows him a pulpit to address the issues. Even though he will not be able to act on them in an official capacity, by staying in it allows him the opportunity to possibly influence the other candidates and inform the elcectorate.

I personally think he is the best of the four remaining candidates on both sides, and will be sad to see him exit. Chase (a.ka. Java Joe) http://www.cafevoice.net

Comment by j9

It seems to me that the other 3 candidates could learn a lot from Mr. Huckabee. He is truly a “down to earth” kind of guy and doesn’t put any on false airs. I haven’t heard his “wife” say that “for the first time in her adult life, she is finally proud of her country.” I don’t really believe anybody else knows what it is like to be part of the “working poor,” especially since 3 of the candidates will never know what it is like to do without health insurance, since just being a senator guarantees their health insurance for the rest of their lives! I certainly don’t see anyone in Washington right now really doing what America or Americans needs them to be doing! On, maybe they’ll vote themselves a pay raise, while most of struggle from paycheck to paycheck!

Don’t quit until you are ready to Mr. Huckabee!!!!

one thing concerns me though i notice some people saying if mc cain is the chosen republican they will not vote that is so wrong if they do not vote then that is one more vote for the democrats and if you watch obama is really getting a lot of people out to vote in most places of primaries and caucauses more democrats come out to vote than republicans

Please do not go to vote at all it is a privilege given to us go to the polls and vote

Let Mike Run !!
What some ppl dont understand is that some of us Christian Conservatives are not going to compromise our beliefs and convictions for any political party. We have a greater loyalty to our own conscience, and no polital party will ever change that. If McCain is the nominee, you can be assured that Millions of Christian Conservatives just arent voting this year. And im one of them.

Peace :-)

No, I think Huckabee should stay in the race. We all know McCain has the nomination wrapped up, and McCain is not spending time, money, or energy campaigning against Huckabee. However, Huckabee staying in the race keeps true conservatives in McCains thoughts.

I think that it is productive for Huckabee to stay in the campaign at least a while longer because it gives the Republicans a story. Otherwise, McCain slips further and further into the backs of everyone’s minds while the Obama/Clinton drama retains top of mind attention. Mike Huckabee is a great candidate and it does not seem that he is doing any major harm to McCain but instead benefitting him in the long run.

There is still too much time left in this race for Huckabee to drop out! Hang in there Huckabee! Please hang in there, give us a morsel of hope in this election.
