I’m heading out right after the show to go on a long-awaited girls weekend extravaganza. It’s a reunion tour of my old friends from our crime-fighting days at AMW. Back then, we were hungry young crime reporters. We worked around the clock. I slept with my beeper next to my pillow and my bag packed. When a fugitive was captured, I would hop on a plane to a jailhouse somewhere in the country and interview the murderer or rapist or pedophile about their crime and life on the run. What an adreneline rush! All of us were single and grabbed the world by its After the Show Show. We didn’t make much money but somehow enough to tear up the town most nights…
Fast forward the tape to today… we’ve morphed into harried mothers who are too busy chasing toddlers to collar criminals. So, we figure a wild weekend is just what the doctor would order. (And by wild I mean staying up past 9pm). If I accomplish that feat, I promise to bring back photos to share with you.
If someone magically granted you this weekend away with friends, where would you go? What would you do?

Could Ambien have killed actor Heath Ledger? How much Ambien would you have to take to overdose?? It’s always shocking when you awake to the news that a promising, talented young artist has died suddenly. I remember being stunned upon hearing the news of John Belushi and Kurt Cobain and Chris Farley, among others. Which celebrity’s untimely death most affected you?

Did anyone watch last night’s Democratic debate? We’ve been talking about it in the Greeenroom this morning. Toba (our audio wizard) thinks John Edwards isn’t getting enough kudos for his impressive performance. Edwards was certainly eclipsed by the fireworks between Clinton and Obama. Do you like it when candidates take off the gloves? We always hear that voters hate it when candidates “go negative.” So why are they doing it? Brian thinks Obama and Clinton truly don’t like each other. I think they been coached to be perform aggressively. Your thoughts?
8:44 UPDATE
Brian is all rigged up on a polygraph machine right next to me as I type (not sure exactly why…) Any questions you’ve always been dying to ask him? Now’s your chance!

…that Brian was off today? Could you, perhaps, alert US next time? Somehow that info slipped through our database undetected. So I was thrust into 3-hour duty rather unexpectedly at 6am. It’s always great to spend more couch time with Steve and Gretchen, though sadly that cut into blogging time. And now I’m filling in on John Gibson and Heather Nauert’s show this afternoon (5-6pm est) for the vacationing Heather and under-the-weather Gibby. Looking forward to taking up our blogversation tomorrow….

Hey, guess what? The Internet DOES work from home! Pleeease do not breathe a word of this to my bosses. So here’s how the morning was spent away from the Greenroom:
5:45am — awoken by toddler calling “Mommy. Mommy? MOMMY!”
6am — diaper-changing, potty-sitting, teeth-brushing, juice-fetching
6:30 – pillow fight in bed, then pillow-fort building in bed (oops, that woke the baby).
6:45 — baby joins the pillow party
7am - 9 — breakfast cooking, feeding, cleaning up, getting dressed
9am - 10:30 — corralling toddlers two blocks to dentist appointment (you’ve never seen two people more excited about going to the dentist — must be the chocolate mint kiddie tooth polish…)
11am - 1pm – Nap (their’s, not mine) I go to my own doctor’s appointment
1pm - 3pm — cook lunch, cajole three disagreeable children into eating said lunch, clean up, break up fight over a button, change innumerable diapers (no one is truly potty trained yet), play favorite hide-from-monster game, build cushion-fort in living room.
And that brings us to now. Does it get any more glamorous? Suddenly the 3am wake-up call doesn’t seem so demanding. Always nice to get a fresh perspective. See yall Monday.

I’m off tomorrow. I know, I know, I should really run these vacation requests by you. But I’m sure you understand how challenging it is to work extra early hours during primary season and how much my bed misses me when I’m not in it (not to mention my family). So I won’t be hosting the show tomorrow but I am considering a special edition of In the Greenroom called In the Guestroom (that’s where the computer is in my apartment) . I’m told technology has advanced enough to allow me to actually blog from home. Unbelievable, but that’s what I hear.
I don’t know what happened to yesterday’s After the Show Show. Our computer wizards are looking into why it wasn’t posted. Hopefully, it’ll be up this morning… In the meantime, keep sending in those suggestions for questions and topics for today’s A.S.S.
Let’s talk about that fugitive Marine. It seems as though his wife is cooperating with police by handing over a note written by Laurean. But if she was involved in the original coverup of Maria Lauterbach’s murder, should she get immunity? Press reports have quoted police as saying that the crime scene in their home was covered in blood.
