Best A. S. S. yet, mainly because you got Brian to blush! I loved the stories.
Alisyn,
Madden is great, my son has memorized all the plays. We were watching a football game and he said “I know this play.” He said. “they should have run this other play you skate by everytime.” It is a lot of fun. Say Hello to Terry for me! Too cute and funny!
September 28, 2007: I went to my best friend Heather’s home for a night at the museum. As we were leaving, three of my other friends came in the back door & I said…”Oh, are we ALL going to the museum??” Then, from the front room, I heard another friend Sarah say “Announcing Prince Justus!” I whirled around & there he was! And I was thinking…but why isn’t he at work?
Adam proceeded to ask for the lady of the house, played by my friend Tara, & said to her that he had been on a date with a young lady the night before, had fallen deeply in love with her & knew she was the only one for him, but he could not find her! All he had was her shoe she had left behind! Did she have any daughters? She did & they stepped forward, played by my friends Carla & Ratna, each taking her turn with the shoe, hamming it up & trying to get the shoe to fit. Finally, Adam, seemingly desperate, begged the lady of the house to make sure she did not know of anyone else? She said no, but my “fairy godmother” Heather said “I know a girl”, & nudged me toward Adam. I tried on the shoe (which he stole from my apartment), it fit, & he called in the attendant (my friend Christi), carrying a lovely pillow made by my mom, with a tiara & a RING on top! He put the tiara on my head & said “I love you with all my heart…will you please be my princess forever?” I quickly answered yes & we began to celebrate. BUT THEN…he said we had to call my mother, Becky, in California, because he promised. So I told her I was engaged & she said “You can tell me more when I see you tonight”!! I was utterly confused at this point, so Adam took my hands & said that if I agreed, he had planned our wedding already for 6:30 the following evening in Las Vegas, where our families were ALREADY WAITING! I had to hurry my goodbyes & pack so we could catch our flight that night!. I was engaged less than 24 hours. We got married in the most beautiful ceremony with our closest friends & family, had a reception planned by my sister Loisa, & left for Rome the next day for a week (which he had ALSO arranged with my boss). Approximately 20 people knew of my engagement & wedding for about a month & a half & all kept the wonderful surprise! I was the happiest, most surprised bride in the world!
Bonita,
What a story!! That’s fantastic! And kudos to all your friends and coworkers who kept the secret so beautifully. That’s truly impressive.
Here is our engagement story…It’s kind of our courtship story in a sense as well.
I was living in Minnesota and he was living in Michigan. Both of us had been single for awhile and were very particular about what we wanted in our future mate. His aunt gave him my phone number and after several calls and emails we decided to meet face to face. The first meeting went incredibly well and while we both knew we would marry one day we didn’t say that to each other because it seemed so ludicrous! Within 1 month of our first meeting we had talked of marriage and me finding an apartment in Michigan until that time came. He asked for my parents’ permission to marry their daughter and they of course said yes. One month after that we went to his mom’s house in Arizona. I had decided to put my house on the market. I was starting my job search. I knew this was the weekend it was going to happen…”the official engagement”. We went to a birthday party for his mom…nothing happened. We went hiking in Sedona on the beautiful trails…nothing happened. We went for walks on a trail overlooking Phoenix…nothing happened. Time was running out and I was beginning to think he was saving the ring for another time. We had one night left. We went to a nice resort in Scottsdale for an Italian dinner in an outdoor restaurant. I was dressed up in an outfit I knew he’d like and had butterflies of excitement in my stomach. He was looking especially handsome in his blue shirt, tie, and slacks. There was live music playing, the food was good, the lighting was perfect…nothing happened. We walked to the car hand in hand and I waited to see what else the night would hold. We sat in the car and chatted and I waited. Finally I asked if we were going someplace else and he said “let’s go for a walk again”. So we got back out of the car and began walking back towards the resort. He picked up a bag out of the back seat of the car that he must have snuck inside before we left. I asked to hold it and he wouldn’t let me so now I knew…this was the moment I would remember. The ring MUST be in the bag. So we walked through the bar area to the outdoor patio/pool area. There were couples mingling here and there as salsa music played behind us and Italian opera could be faintly heard from the outdoor restaurant. We arrived at fire ring and sat watching couples take gondola rides on the lake behind us. Slowly couple by couple dispersed. The gondola guides packed up their things and it was just the two of us by the fire. It was time to open the gift. I pulled out a teddy bear holding a stuffed heart that said “I love you!”. I did my best to hide my disappointment mixed with hope…”It’s a bear!” I said…as I tried to nonchalantly squeeze every last inch of the stuffed creation…”It’s a bear” I continued to repeat as I came up with no ring. He sat grinning as he watched my pitiful attempt to conceal my ring hunt. “Have you ever heard of a talking bear?” he asked. “A talking bear?” I said. “Yeah, squeeze here.” he explained pointing to the bear’s hand. As I squeezed the hand, his voice came out of the bear asking “Diana, will you marry me?” I sat dumbfounded for a moment trying to figure out how he got his voice into the bear before I realized I hadn’t answered “Yes, of course!” I exclaimed and kissed him. Then he pulled out the engagement ring and made it official. Four months later we were married and we both feel like we’ve known each other our entire lives.
So that’s our story…
Diana
That’s a great one!! How sneaky of him to keep you waiting with bated breath.
Dear Alisyn…very painful to recollect…but, I will. After asking my soon-to-be-bride to marry me…she “hooked-up” with an old(er) acquaintance (a matter of days after my asking). It took me thirty years to find out.
Single again,
Shalom Aleichem, Mark P.
But Mark, did you marry her and then learn the truth?
I was engaged over Labor Day weekend 2007. My now fiance took me to my favorite building in D.C., the National Building Museum. It holds a great deal of meaning to our relationship as it was the location of one of our first dates. He took me upstairs overlooking the great hall and splendid columns and proposed; a moment I will never forget!
I loved today’s AtSS! It was great to have all 4 of you and hear your engagement stories. Note to your higher ups-this is what your fans want on the AtSS. I cringe when you have guests on that makes it just an extension of the regular show. Keep up the good work and thank you for entertaining me while informing me of what the heck is going on in the world. Love you guys!
My husband and I met at our company’s golf scramble. I’d never been on a golf course, but was helping my girlfriend take pictures of the groups as they went by the 17th hole. By the 2nd annual golf tournament, i was playing golf (after receiving some lessons) and was given my beautiful engagement ring as we were getting ready to tee off. We’ll be married 18 years this march.

I walked away from the altar two weeks before the wedding. At 28, I just couldn’t do it. Guy’s tuxedos were rented, girls had their gowns, big facility nailed down and qued up for a big Italian wedding… the works.
She left me. For 5 months we were both broken-hearted, until we finally got back together, in the fall. We married the day after Christmas in a snow storm, honeymooned in Florida, and have been happily married ever since.
She reminds me every anniversary dinner what a Sh_t I was, and then we enjoy dinner. She is a wonderful wife, and all this did was strengthen our relationship. But I still get the reminder every year, and rightfully so.
What a great resolution. I guess the moral is trust your instincts and things will work out.
I met my future bride at a Pizza Hut New Year’s Eve 1973 after consuming my 1st picture of beer. Went over to their table during my 2nd picture, and asked her to go fishing with me the next day. Of course she said maybe, but ended up not going, due to the cold temperatures. We started dating at that point and Easter Sunday 1974, I proposed to her on the couch at her house, with her mother sitting next to us…she said yes. The date was set for 9-20-1974 and a month before the wedding, I called it off (we were 18 and 19 at the time)
On Christmas Eve 1975 I proposed again ( after getting her parent’s approval ). I put the ring in the nativity set and wrote her a poem. The one catcher line was “Jesus has ring around the collar”.
We were married 3-20-1976 and are currently living the “happy ever after” life.
Michael, your story sounds a bit like Carl’s. Good things come to those who wait.
Great show today, nice to have Brian as an addition.
I proposed to my wife on Easter Sunday, in a park in Kettering, OH. Nothing overly ambitious, just nice and romantic… I thought anyway.
Engaged, married, and post…
My future wife and I met while working for the same company. Our company was generous with vacation, and everyone received 4 weeks minimum; I used to take all of mine at once and go backpacking through Europe. My then girlfriend also liked traveling, and was born and raised in Barcelona. So we went on a few trips together and really enjoyed ourselves.
On one trip, we left her uncle’s home to go into Barcelona for dinner; we walked down the famed Las Ramblas, and I purchased her a single stem red rose from one of the many florists on Las Ramblas. We found a nice restaurant in the Plaza Real off Las Ramblas to have dinner. After our dinner, and before dessert, my girlfriend went to the powder room, and I took the opportunity to slip an engagement ring onto the stem of the rose.
She returned, and a few seconds after sitting down she noticed a shimmer, but did not know what it was, and each time she tried to look I would interrupt her and ask her questions. I knew she was very curious, so I let her get a good look the last time. The smile she had from my silly questions slowly vanished from her face and morphed into a look of confusion. In the instant that she was realizing what it was, I reached for her hand across the table and asked her if she would marry me. She trembled, cried with a shaky voice and said yes.
For our honeymoon, I planned a two week vacation to Italy; a few days in Rome, then to Venice for a cruise to Greece. Through the Internet, I found an American photographer living in Rome and hired her to take photos of us in our wedding attire at the famous sites in Rome. Also, unbeknownst to my wife, I had arranged with the Vatican office to attend a Papal Audience with Pope John Paul, and so we were invited to sit up very close to the Pope during the audience with our wedding attire. After the audience, we were escorted to Pope John Paul to meet him in person and receive a personal blessing, we each held his hands and I asked him to bless us with happiness, and children. Less than a year later, we were expecting our first child. We were truly blessed as we now have three children! We are living the ‘happily ever after part’ now.
That’s really lovely Albert. And what a romantic honeymoon!
