Jamie-Lynn Spears Pregnancy

This topic is burning up our email.   Should she be fired from her role on Zoey 101?  Should the producers change the plotline to accomodate her pregnancy?  My, albeit optimistic, thought is that she could somehow use her pregnancy as an illustration for  other teens of how challenging it is to raise a child and all the sacrifices you have to make to do so.  As I said on the air, it’s probably safe to assume that other teen stars have gotten pregnant and we’ve just never known about it.  Should we really wag our fingers at her for keeping her child and making her mistake public?  Having said that, is any single 16-year-old equipped to raise a child, regardless of how much money or resources she has?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Good morning Alisyn,

It’s obvious that the Spears family is out of control. I say less publicity the better. I really do not think allowing her character to portray the difficulties of raising a child would be good. For one it would not be genuine, second how on Earth would she know what those difficulties are?

This is just another child star that lacks an anchoring figure.

I believe that Jamie-Lynn should be fired from Zoey 101. Not because she is pregnant….everyone can make a mistake. But for the little kids, watching the program it is too confusing for them to understand. If this program is geered to young children and teens….then it is wrong to continue to focus on a pregnant teen. One who can care for the child….because of money. Life is not like that, young pregant teens have a very difficult time….it is not easy. Leaving her on the show, won’t show life’s reality.

My, albeit optimistic, thought is that she could somehow use her pregnancy as an illustration for other teens of how challenging it is to raise a child and all the sacrifices you have to make to do so.

Setting aside the fact that her sister is Britney, which is an indication of what might be in her future… the problem is that she at least has the resources (as you mentioned later). Most kids, even single adults who haven’t established a career, a home, etc. aren’t equipped to take care of a child. This sends a really bad message to a generation of already sluttified young girls. I’m sure you’ve seen the way even 12 year olds dress and act these days, and it all really started going downhill when Britney Spears got started with the catholic school girl outfit. Now it’s gotten to where it’s normal to have Tila Tequila making men and women (late teens) having bull penis eating contests to decide who gets to have sex with her (Because “experimenting” is cool, right?).

Anyway, it doesn’t matter what Disney does… The girl is rich. She can move home, but eventually we’ll see her doing stupid stuff in the tabloids. There’s no positive that will come out of this, and this won’t teach anyone a lesson. It’s like Obama telling kids about how he did drugs without bashing the behavior, essentially saying “hey, you can run for president too, even if you want to do drugs!”

Why recognize them?????be different in your format….recognize the people who have MORALS AND VALUES…..be different than the rest of the news media. We are told to concentrate on the “good”. What is “good” about this news?

Report on responsible human beings; show that there is another way of life with responsibilities and morals, don’t be like the rest of the world’s news mongers.

There are maybe 2 channels I allow my grandkids to watch when I babysit them. Nickalodien(sp?) has been one of them..if the show continues then I am down to one channel. I remember growing up with only 3 channels on tv and we could watch all 3 without our parents being concerned about content. Its getting rediculous. Their mother should be going to parenting AND grandparenting classes..but its probably way too late.

I believe she be removed from her show Zoey 101 because she plays a role that our young children look up too. Everyone makes mistakes it seems, and no one is perfect. But seems if the parents were more in control of their children these days, these kind of mistakes may not be happening.
To say she is keeping the baby, and raising it is an understatement. The mother, will have the baby while Jamie Lynn will continue doing her thing. Kids having kids needs to stop and I believe that begins in the way a child is brought up. I believe in the way my mother brought me up and I had brought up my children and I pray in turn they bring up their children. Teach your children morals….
good morals never hurt anyone and I believe they should be taught early in their lives and these kinds of situations would be avoided. Could jealousy play a part in this?

I have a sixteen year old grandaughter who has 3 younger sisters. They all watch the popular tv show. I think that it would be sad to have Jamie-Lynn continue on in her role. I think that even (maybe especially) the “stars” should have some consequences for their lack of judgement.

In real life, there are many consequences to teenage pregnancy. It should not be glamorized or made to look like a way to get attention. I so wish for my grandchildren a real childhood full of love for their families and a good education rather than all the drama associated with the Spears girls.

Alysin,

Other actors, adult actors, have been fired for becoming pregnant during a production of a TV series. Not for the pregnancy, but because the JOB of an actor is to play a role. The problem here is that Ms. Spears’ real-life situation has intruded into the fictional character she portrays. I agree whole-heartedly with the previous comments that to retain Ms. Spears would be confusing. Shows in the Zoey 101 vein shouldn’t become social experiments, as would happen if an attempt was made to depict Ms. Spears’ actual situation. Teenage pregnancy is not normal and who knows what emotional and physical challenges she will face over the next few years. Her life could quickly turn into an even greater train-wreck in very short order. Ms. Spears needs to get her life in order and the producers of the show shouldn’t exploit the situation.

Comment by Ed R

Your idea is very good Alisyn maybe it would be a warning if they show the hardships of High School pregnancy. I would hope they wouldnt show it in a reality format. As I said in my email I think they should open a trailer park in Malibu in honor of the Spears family.

I will give kudo’s to Jaimie for having the child instead of using alternative methods. In our West Texas Catholic Register, our regional Catholic newspaper, they have a pro-life cartoon called “Umbert the Unborn” that shows a fetus inside the womb. It’s quite entertaining with a positive humorous message.

I believe she should be fired as well. It would be nice to believe that showing the difficulties related to teenage pregnacy on TV would help educate young teens as they watch the show but I think the teens watching the show would look right past the charater and idolize the the actress who is teenage star with a kid. Many teenagers out their would believe if she could have a kid and still be a star they could do it as well, failing to realize that Jamie-Lynn isn’t your normal 16 year who would struggle in real life with a child.

I’ve been sitting at my computer trying to put into words how I feel about Jamie-Lynn, bottom line is I’m truly sick of hearing about these “Child-Stars” and all their drinking, drug, sex, etc problems. I really don’t care about the “rich lives and their mistakes!” I live in a small town and I see what teenage pregnacies do to “families!” It’s a real hardship. Maybe thats why in small town USA Parents talk to their children about what it means to raise a child and the hardship and the fact it can ruin your future. It sets you up for long term hardship at an early age. God-Bless Mike Huckabee for setting aside the Presidential Campaign and wishing everyone a “Merry Christmas!” It’s time we got back to “God and Family!!!” He’s got my VOTE!!! We live in a society of no morals (ex:Jamie-Lynn and Sister Brittany!) People are out of control. On a much nicer note-I love the family Christmas stories you all have been sharing! Thanks for a Wonderful News Channel Fox!! God Bless and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!

alisyn,

i think you’re right, i don’t think she is the only teen celeb that has found herself in that perdicament. she is just the only one that we have heard about. she can thank her older sister for that one. as far as the zoey show goes, i think that is gonna depend on the ratings! hey the cat’s out of the bag now, everyone knows she is pregnant. i don’t feel she will have any problem raising that child, after all she can always turn to her mother and sister for advice. aren’t they writing a book on parenting? any way i hope the best for her and her child, it probably won’t be easy, but i don’t think it will be as hard for her as a non-celebrity teen! thanx and merry xmas to you all steve.

California Unclaimed Money – Zoey101 is on Nickelodeon … Nickelodeon is owned by Viacom (Sumner Redstone’s company) under the MTV Networks banner … It’s NOT part of Disney …

Yes, Jamie-Lynn should be fired from the show … She’s already proven that she’s incapable of making the proper choices in her life … Keeping her & the show on the air would only prove to her that there are NO consequences for any of her actions …

You can also bet that her ex-brother-in-law & his lawyer will pounce on her situation and use it against her sister (Britney) in that child custody battle …

Sadly, since Jamie-Lynn is currently employed by MTV Networks … We’ll most likely see her & the family in yet another horrible reality show that’ll pop up on VH-1 or MTV … This is something that the current management of MTV Networks is most likely foaming at the mouth over and is trying to figure out how to spin it into a show for her …

Sumner Redstone is a hypocrite … As the head of Viacom (Paramount Studios), he cuts ties with Tom Cruise over the whole Scientology gig … But, then his company is producing society-wrecking shows like A Shot at love with Tila Tequila, Hogan Knows Best, The Real World, Road Rules, Engaged & Underage, The Osbournes, I Love New York … and who can forget the infamous costume malfunction of Janet Jackson at the 2004 Super Bowl …

Read the writing on the wall … This is NOT the last that we’ll see of Jamie-Lynn Spears on tv … She’ll be back because she’s a moneymaker for Viacom …

While I applaud Jamie-Lynn for not aborting her child, I do not believe that she should be allowed to continue on this show. She should quietly retreat to Louisiana, or wherever, and have her child and hopefully raise it in a better manner than her train-wreck sister. Her show should be cancelled. It’s a kids’ show–the pregnancy should not be written into the plot line. It wouldn’t be appropriate.

We all make mistakes; but there are consequences to wrong actions. This incident won’t end her career–she’ll probably be back with a bigger and better career in a short period of time. I neither condemn her nor put her on a pedestal, and I think that’s how the whole situation should be treated.

Remind me not to buy that book. My assessment of the Spears family is that white trash with money is still white trash.

Our daughter had a baby, unmarried, at the age of 16. We are a Christian family, and my husband and I are good parents. Our daughter made a mistake by having premarital sex, but she corrected it by giving the baby up for adoption. It was a very difficult time for our family, and my daughter righted her wrong. I believe God has forgiven her. We came out of this experience with humility and learned that we should not judge anyone. Our faith is stronger for it. I love Fox and Friends and watch every morning, but when I see you all mock this situation because it is the Spears family, I am really bothered. It is not your place, and this is better left alone. If you must cover it, why not praise the choice Jamie made to admit her pregnancy and not abort it? Fox and Friends, do the right thing — don’t be like the other channels.

Comment by Alisyn Camerota

Thank you for sharing your personal story Linda. You’re so right. Who are we to judge? We’re trying to have a constructive dialogue about it and if that’s sounded mocking, I apologize. There’s clearly no “right” answer.

It is becoming more accepted for young teens to become pregnant. We have a friend with a 13 year old that has stated that she wants to get pregnant as soon as possible. Her sister that got pregnant at 16 has told her that if she gets pregnant she is able to live on her own with the agency’s paying her rent, food stamps and other programs to feed her and provide child care and that she can do anything she wants because she will not be under her parents rules. That it is great. Sad times, babies having babies.

Comment by Pat Harper

Dear Alisyn,

I don’t think that Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy should be written into the plot line of her show. I think that doing so would glamorize her situation, rather than accurately depict the harsh reality of it. Given who she is, I don’t think Jamie Lynn will have the experience that most teens in this situation have, nor will she suffer financially from it, as do many pregnant teens and their families.

We had this situation occur in our family with my niece a number of years ago. She was blessed to have supportive parents who helped her with the baby while she finished college and began her career. But there was no question that it was an extremely difficult time for her and her parents. My niece was fortunate enough to meet a wonderful guy who loved her and her daughter, married her and adopted her daughter. However, in many cases, things don’t work out like they did for my niece.

Thank you so much for all of your contributions to Fox & Friends. My husband and I watch you every single morning! Have a Blessed Christmas and a very happy New Year!

Alisyn,

All of you women may hate me for this, but…………………………….

When I was growing up the Mom was home, every Mom in my neighborhood was home while the Dad’s were at work. When we were all out and about the neighborhood playing someone might do something wrong.

That behavior didn’t last long because a Mom usually caught us and took care of the situation right then and there. Then once you returned home, and if you were guilty, your Mom already had the full story.

We could all safely play in the neighborhood and a Mom was never far away.

Look at our society today, is it any wonder that so many kids are turning out the way they are?

Comment by Peggy D

I admire this young girl for keeping her child and not aborting it. The rest is irrelevant.

Comment by Kerry

Bill S in Scotia – I’m a mom and I absolutely agree with what you wrote! When Mom’s began to leave the home to work, not those that needed to work because of financial need but those who work to sustain a certain lifestyle, it began the breakdown of the American family. And now look where we are.

Are we supposed to take comfort that Lynn Spears will raise her grandchild? She did a splendid job with the other two – lets give her another! Good grief…

Comment by John Sheppard

The thing that really got me ticked off is that the “father” has been her long time lover. She is sixteen years old! How long term are talking here? This sounds like a child predator to me!

Comment by Laurie

Ok – I do not condone teen sex – my daughter is also a teen and she and I have been very open about the subject. However, you can’t deny that it does and will happen. If my daughter got pregnant I would do my best to support her and make sure she and her baby have a strong foundation for the future. That is my job as a mother. It is not to kick her out or belittle her or send her away or force her to do something she doesn’t want to like maybe adoption or abortion, although they are within her rights to do (I don’t support either options). Jaime made a mistake that not only is she going to be paying for, but she is making the attempt to be adult about it. I give her kudos for that. Her “sins” are between her and God, but I really think she should be pulled from the show because she is a role model for younger kids. With that said, we should leave her alone to live her life.

I also pose this opinion – our society made it that 18 was a legal age, but they forgot about the fact our “bodies” haven’t caught up with that rule. Less than 100 years ago, it was still the norm to be ab adult married by the time you were 16 or in some societies even younger. My aunt married when she was 16 back in the late 50s and my mother was considered an old maid at 17. There is a reason for that. Thats what are bodies are prepared for. We may think that a 15 or 16 is mentally unprepared – that is our fault – we made them unprepared – doesn’t negate the fact that the body is physically prepare and we are fighting the natural course of life. Yes, our life expectancy is longer – but I’ve noticed that instead of teens going through puberty at an older age they are actually experiencing it younger than my age group did. So, we are fighting the physical with the mental with what we think is proper. GOOD LUCK in society trying to enforce the impossible before evolution has a chance to catch up.

Comment by Linda

I’m a mother of three, 14 and under, and it seems their appropriate TV viewing options shrink by the day. Most often, if we try to watch a family-friendly show on any network other than a “child-friendly” network such as Nick, we are embarrassed by the sexual content of the commercials. I would love to know what agenda exists behind this ever-present assault on our childrens’ innocence by the media. But I digress…

The bottom line is that we have felt relatively comfortable allowing our kids to watch shows on Nick due to their “wholesome” appeal. We do not expect Nick to force issues such as child pregnancy upon its children viewers. Nick is about children’s entertainment – child pregnancy is not entertaining, and it’s not appropriate for a children’s TV show.

A final thought – Miss Spear’s situation should come as no shock to any of us. The sexualization of girls today is APPALLING and society should be outraged! Look at Bratz dolls, which have been wildly popular for very young girls. Go to the mall and look at the fashion choices marketed to our girls. Many grow up being encouraged to identify with famous girls like Miss Spears and Vanessa Hudgens – who have both now made headlines with their sexual activities – and what do you think they take away from it all? They are methodically being desensitized so that sex is “like, whatever!” Being viewed and finding value as a sex object is what many of our girls now strive for, as it is the latest fashion.

Hmm… maybe if our children were actually PARENTED instead of parents’ trying the buddy-buddy route with their children, we would be turning out better behaved and more respectful offspring!

As a society we are so afraid to discipline our children for fear of harming their precious self-esteem, that what we are actually doing is NOTHING- letting the little ones’ get away with “murder”- we need to revisit the old school form of parenting that our parents’ and our grandparents’ instilled in us and bring that form of discipline back to the table when it comes to our children- if not, then there is no hope for our children or their own… it’s pretty sad when I live in a State (Mass) where state legislatures are now trying to pass a bill telling parents’ that they are not allowed to spank their own children in the privacy of their own American Homes!– or that a parent has to “fear” disciplining their child in public, for “fear” that some busy-body bystander will call the police or DSS! Sorry-there is a DIFFERENCE between firm discipline and abuse and it is High Time we as parents’ took back the control over our children! As for JLS- the media should “drop” this story- the more it is “talked” about it our news media- the more it is creating a sense of “normalcy” among our youth! Enough- this should be swept under the rug and JL and her mom should feel shamed by this “unexpected news” NOT glorifying it with a gloss-filled photo shoot!… my 2 cents…

Let’s face facts these girls are slutty. and no it did not begin with trailer trash Britney. It began long before that. Remember Madonna and her little crucifix video? And when did clothing designers (are any of the male ones staight?) start designing clothes for young girls to make it look like they are all hookers. We are so hellbent on our personal freedoms and being politically correct that no one tells the truth anymore. These girls along with half of Hollywood are sluts. No more no less. When you go around with no underware on and let people take pictures of your crotch you are a slut. No question about it. What the hell is wrong with this country? Our girls going around dressing like little tramps, allowing boys to speak in the most vulger manner around them like they are one of the guys? If you let people treat you like trash you are trash. 13 years olds are having oral sex in middle school. Kids glorify rap singers who rap about drugs and violence. These kids are walking around raising themselves because there is sure as hell no disipline in these houses. Parents need to be involved in the MORAL upbringing of their kids. Otherwise this country is doomed to fall into moral decay. Should Jamie be thrown off her meal ticket show? You betcha.

While an error has been made, and it is a very long lasting life changing error-what it-simply is.
She is having a child, hopfully she will and the father will provide a loving home for the baby.
However that being said- very young children watch her on TV and look up to her character, and she is not, at this time, a good role model, Therefore she does need to have this issue addressed on the show as something not to done or leave the show and either way raise the child.
And is does take two- hummm–this is not totally her fault –is the father stepping up? The news media does not seem to making such a big deal about him.

Obviously this situation with Jamie-Lynn Spears is very disturbing to most parents. I have two daughters, ages 11 and almost 13, and they had certainly heard all about it in school by the time I got home from work to discuss it. We talked about how it happened, and how inappropriate it was for her & her boyfriend to have sex, and also, to not use protection. Miss Spears’ decision to keep ithe pregnancy or terminate it is certainly her choice, but my older daughter said she thought she heard Steve Doocey say on the show this AM that she made the “right decision” by keeping it. Did she hear correctly? Please let me know!

I do not think that Spear’s should continue in her role as Zoe, since her young fans who look up to her and are impressionable could get a glorified view of teenage motherhood, when in fact that could not be further from the truth. However, I hate to see this young girl villified and shown such little compassion. Life is going to get signifigantly harder for her, and she needs support, not condemnation. Let those of us who are perfect cast the first stone. Merry Christmas to the gang at FOX, you guys are great!

Let Lifetime do a movie of the week about teenage pregnancy and keep it out of Zoey101.
I believe she should be replaced on Zoey101. She is not a good role model for young girls. Cable t.v. does enough to glamorize sex and drugs. It should not be on a children’s channel.
I hope that entire family finds their way to a Godly life.

Well, I waited until I had digested this situation to post on it. I do see all sides of it, and hopefully I respect them. The sad truth is this is a baby raising a baby without any family support other than denial and disfunction.

Alyson you do have a great point, she is owning up to her problem. But I would like any parent worry that she is setting a bad example of what not to do. Adoption would have been the most loving thing for that baby, it would allow another family to raise it. So now that she says she is pregnant and other channels have said she is further along than 12 weeks, she has very little time to grow up. Nickalodean has every right to end her contract, hopefully they will.

Louisana is a better place than Hollywood to raise a baby, that is for sure. I have a younger child, I asked if he ever watched that show, thankfully he does not. My oldest came and told me about the situation, he said the child has no chance for a real life. If a kid can see that then why can’t her parents?

No answers here only thoughts.

Jamie-Lynn she is a role model to many young girls, and her place should no longer be on that particular show. And that is consequence for her becoming pregnant while playing a character on a show for kids. Not as punishment, or to be nonsupportive of her. I wish her and her family well.

I guess what I’m saying is that not all of these situations end up a mess.

Alisyn,
I don’t think a 16 year has any idea what is ahead, of course the money issue will be a plus on providing for the child, but it takes alot more than that. I was 22 when I had my first child and 25 with my second and I was a single parent, and at my age I know I wasn’t prepared for what a responsibility it was to care for a child. She should have waited …..

The fact that she was scared enough to not let it out for 12 weeks shows something about the people around her.If she were closer to her mother it wud have been out earlier than this.I’ve got on my site exclusive excerpts from Britney’s Mother’s Parenting Book :)

When I first heard this, and the question, should she be fired? My immediate reaction was No!
As a matter of fact, they should use this to reach our young people. Continue the show, write it into the script, and show our teens what it is REALLY like to have to juggle school, pregnancy, and little bundle of joy at this age. I’m not talking a glorified teen pregnancy like on The Reba show, or other shows depicting teen pregnancy. Dont sugar coat it, let’s get the real, good and bad of all teen pregnancy is. I think that since our kids are greatly influenced by by Nickelodeon, and Jamie Lynn, this may be the perfect opportunity to reach out and really connect with our young people. This is the perfect way to really hit home for these kids. Use it to make a difference.
I recently heard while typing this that some kind of special is being planned, I sure hope its worth it. I tried to find a way to contact Nickelodeon myself with my thoughts, but I was unable to. If anyone knows, I would love to share my thoughts with them.

Alisyn,
I would say it’s time that “NICK” takes out the trash. However, I do not personally know Jamie Lynn. I do think this girl is going to be very troubled like her sis. Their up bringing was not the best obviously. I do agree with others, that the publicity needs to be dropped, and fogus be given to those who deserve it.

We do not need TV shows, producers and executives doing the job that parents should be doing. Plus do we really want Hollywood types interjecting their twisted ideals on America’s children?

Comment by Erik The Red...neck

This situation is hardly surprising to me. Not just because of the “Spears” angle but also because of Nickelodeon. Have you ever seen the show Degrassi?

What started out as a “tween” targeted drama-type show about a bunch of middle schoolers soon turned into a sex-fueled indoctrination of acceptance and social liberalism.

We like to keep tabs on what our children watch and for the first couple seasons had no real objections to the show and eventually let them watch it without much oversight. But, I like to occasionally follow-up with what the girls are watching and sat down for an episode. The topic of the night’s episode? I’m totally serious here, boy using a penis pump to try and impress his girlfriend. Did I mention these are supposed to be middle-school children? It actually showed him sitting on the bed, with a sheet around his crotch, using the device when his television girlfriend walked in on him.

I was shocked and thought it was quite out of the norm from what the show had started out as. I decided to watch a few more episodes and found boys kissing boys, girls kissing girls, kids encouraging homosexual and heterosexual activity, there was violence and drug use. It was deeply disturbing and unfortunately I had to tell our girls they weren’t allowed to watch the show any more. While I would allow my now 17 year old to watch it (and she chooses not to) I still won’t allow my 13 year old to watch the show.

I just looked the show up on the net and right on the front page is a bio about a Dylan Michalchuk that reads:
Notable Events:
Fell for Marco after being introduced by Paige (his sister)
Influenced Marco to come out to his mom
Left for college, cheated on Marco with some dude
Won Marco back
Moved in with Marco and Ellie
Joined a professional hockey team in Switzerland
Dumped by Marco after putting zero effort into their LDR

My issue has far less to do with homosexuality than it does sexuality in general. It is a clear example of the over-sexualization of our children. I believe it is a Canadian show, so the massive liberal influence isn’t surprising. What is surprising and saddening is that has become such a popular show among young people. This is the kind of subtle “brain-washing” and idea-planting that really has an effect on kids. We hear all the time about MTV, rap music, video games and so on, but this is the kind of thing the kids really relate to.

In my opinion, Nick would be utter hypocrites to fire Ms. Spears. Further, I believe it is just the kind of salaciousness that they secretly yearn for.

I would love to see Fox look into this further and expose what I consider the “darker” side of Nickelodeon.

I am an avid “Fox & Friends” watcher, and love to listen to each of your comments in the morning as I am getting ready for work. However, this morning when the subject of Brittany Spears sister being pregnant was being discussed, Gretchen was saying how disgusted she was and also made comments about Miss Spears mother. I could not help but think, no matter how much we teach our children the importance of abstinence, our children are the ones that make these choices, not the parents. Even though it is very sad that Miss Spears is pregnant, it is not the end of the world, like Gretchen was making it sound this morning. Teenagers make bad decisions everyday, not matter how much we try to teach them to follow God’s word. I just hope Gretchen remembers this when her children become teenagers.

Someone on another network was talking about keeping Miss Spears on the show and that this opens the doors of communication about sexuality for parents and kids. This is hogwash. Let her situation be the jumping off point for a conversation but take her off the show. The reality is that Miss Spears will have someone else to raise her child while she does her show. Most young ladies who find themselves in this situation do not. They end up barely finishing high school and if they are lucky and finish – they may or may not go on to college. If they do go to college there is even less support for young parents so they eventually drop out. Only about 10 % will finish. There is very limited quality tv programing for kids this age. I look at some of the other talent that Nickelodeon as produced such as Amanda Bynes for example. The quality of her work continues to be top notch and appropriate for most of the audience that watched her on the network. Why would Nickelodeon allow this type of situation hurt the reputation they have created? Other than PBS, it is them or Disney. Walt wouldn’t have stood for this and neither should the executives an Nickelodeon. If they allow this to continue then it would seem that Nickelodeon is more interested in the ratings that this “scandal” has created rather than the interest of its young viewers or trust of their viewers parents. Trust is hard to earn and once it is lost, even harder to get back.

Can you tell me what the legal age of consent is for California? I thought 16 was considered a minor. Isn’t a boy of 18 taking advantage of a 16 year old? I’ve known some grown up 16 year olds but apparently this 16 year old thought you could not get pregnant if you do not use a condom. Even if she knew about that, isn’t the 18 year old a pedophile? Shouldn’t charges be made against the boy?

I remember about 10 years ago in Houston a man from Mexico brought his wife over to the states. She was pregnant and it turned out she was 16 yrs old. He was arrested eventhough they were married.

What’s the difference in this case?

Sick..sick..sick..sick of the ‘Spears’ and all their highly publized public life/bad behavior!! My mother used to say..”you should never reward bad behavior”…every time I see something blasting out of yet another headline it shouts out “look, the wonderful Spears family is doing something totally irresponsible AGAIN and we are going to make sure they get all the attention they so richly deserve!!!” I work in a Neurology Dept and see people suffering everyday from ALS, Epilepsy, Parkinsons, on and on the list goes. These are the people and their caregivers that are out there everyday ‘fighting the good fight’. **Side note…your holiday set looks really cheesy….three pots of flowers?…no wreath with lights at least in the background? Did the Grinch steel your holiday decorations? If so, I have an old wreath up in the attic you could borrow. Course, its been stored it in the attic and living in Florida I can’t guarantee what kind of shape its in..for all I know its half melted. Let me know if you want to use it…I will overnight it.

It’s too bad that she is being “lynched” for her bundle of joy. Keeping the baby means she values life, how refreshing these days! I have a student teacher in my third grade classroom who was grilled by the children when she brought in her 3 year old and they new she would be getting married in the fall of 08. I was very proud when she explained that she did things backwards. Her love of her child is very evident, her life has been difficult to say the least, but no one would argue she loves her child and is a fantastic mother. It is time we stop thinking of Jamie as her sister and allow her to show her own colors before we make judgement calls of someone we don’t personally know.

Great point was made by one of the bloggers whom are we to judge how this girl lives her life. Theres consequences some of us take heed to what our parents warned us about teenage sex. Hey if ths girl wants this. More power to her . But also know the sacrifices you are making Miss Spears

I was a teen mother. I was told by the “world” around me that I had ruined my life, that I was a slut, that I could never amount to anything because I chose to have a baby rather than abort it or give it up for adoption. Luckily, my parents were phenominal. They told me that my life was only beginning, that I still had many options, and that although the road I chose would be difficult, it was not impossible.

I put myself through college. I have a very successful business career. I married and had another child.

Please stop judging Jamie Lynn. I was offended with Brian’s comment this morning that he doesn’t want his kids exposed to “that”. Well my friend…. “that” is called life. Kids are smart. We can have conversatiions with our children about making choices and about living with the consequences without glamorizing anything. Do the right thing Fox. Stop the judgement and try supporting a very young and scared young lady that has no idea what she’s in for. Perhaps a segment on compassion is appropriate?

By the way…my daughters are the most incredible gift I’ve ever received. And I thank God every day for them and for parents that taught me to take responsibility for my actions rather than taking the easy way out.
